[ad_1] Indian-Americans are celebrating Donald Trump’s victory in the presidential election, expressing optimism about the potential benefits for the economy, border security, and global peace.  Donald Trump has secured a second term as president after winning crucial battleground states. This victory marks a significant comeback for Trump, who lost his re-election bid in 2020 to President Joe Biden.  Avinash Gupta, President of the Foreign Indian Association, believes Trump’s good rapport with Prime Minister Narendra Modi will strengthen India-US relations. Gupta cited local factors like inflation, open borders, and ongoing wars as key concerns that influenced Indian-American voters.  “They voted what was best for India -America friendship. President Trump has a good rapport with PM Modi. Local factors such as inflation, open borders and ongoing wars also came into play. We are looking forward to course correction and having a better economy, secured borders and global peace,” he said.  Alok Kumar Indian- American community leader, NJ&NY (Chairman Bihar Foundation USA East Coast & Past President & Board of trustee -FIA-NYNJCT&NE), emphasised the shared values between India and the US as the world’s largest and oldest democracies.  “As the oldest and largest democracies, the United States and India share a natural bond rooted in shared values and a mutual commitment to global peace. President Trump and Prime Minister Modi have emphasised ending global conflicts and fostering harmony, a vision that I believe the new administration will continue to uphold,” he said. Kumar highlighted the strong personal rapport between Trump and Modi, evidenced by landmark visits like Trump’s trip to Gujarat and Modi’s “Howdy Modi” event in Texas. Kumar is confident that the new administration will uphold the vision of promoting global peace and strengthening strategic, economic, and cultural partnerships. “The strong personal rapport between past leaders–evidenced by landmark visits like President Trump’s visit to Gujarat and Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Texas–has solidified this relationship, making it more resilient. With a new administration, I’m confident we’ll see further strengthening of our strategic, economic, and cultural partnerships, benefiting both our nations and promoting a peaceful, prosperous world,” Kumar added.  Anil Bansal from New Jersey, a businessperson and former chairperson of Indus American Bank, acknowledged the election results and expressed hope that Trump’s administration will serve all Americans. Despite disagreements with Trump’s policies, Bansal, a supporter of Kamala Harris, committed to staying engaged and working toward positive change, striving for a future guided by unity and respect.  “I want to acknowledge the results of this election and accept Donald Trump as the next President. This election season has been intense and very divisive. While I do not agree with many of President Trump’s policies and actions, I sincerely hope that his administration will serve all Americans and address the challenges that we all face. I’m committed to staying engaged and working toward positive change. I hope we can all strive for a future where unity and respect guide us, no matter our differences. I pray for a brighter future for everyone,” he said. (Input from ANI) [ad_2] Source link

Gujarat GSEB HSC Science result announced; 71.34% cleared, lowest in eight years - Times of India
Tumblr media
AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) on Sunday declared HSC science stream result with a pass percentage of 71.34% which is the lowest result in eight years. The result is around 1.09% less as compared to 2018, where 72.99% of students had passed the exam.
This was the third result where the students were judged on the class XII results only. In March 2017, it was the last semester IV examination conducted by the board. The Gujarat Government had from June 2017 scrapped the semester system and had decided to have only one examination and that is of class XII.
A total of 83,111 students out of 1,16,494 students who appeared for the class 12th (science) examination were declared pass by the board. Students in A group with mathematics posted 76.62% results while the result of B group students with biology was 68.21%.
The pass out percentage of the boys was more than that of the boys. While the pass out percentage was 70.85% for the girls, it was 71.69% for the boys.
English-medium students once again fared better than their Gujarati medium counterparts posting 74.02% pass out percentage. The same for the Gujarati medium was 70.77%.
Of the total 139 centres where the examination was conducted, the result of Dhrol in Jamnagar was the highest at 91.42% while that of Limkheda centre had the lowest at 23.02 per cent, GSEB said. This is the third consecutive year that Dhrol has topped the centre chart.
Among districts, Rajkot secured the highest pass percentage at 84.69% per cent while tribal-dominated Chhota Udepur district recorded the lowest percentage at 32.64%. In 2018 and 2019 also, it was the same Rajkot which had led the district while Chhota Udepur was at the bottom.
A total of 36 schools recorded 100 per cent results this year, down from 42 in 2018 and 117 such schools in 2017. The number of schools securing 10 per cent or lower pass percentage also increased to 49 compared to 49 schools last year, the GSEB said.

India is what happens when you declare victory way too soon in a pandemic for political reasons.
The government of authoritarian populist Prime Minister Narendra Modi wanted to just get the pandemic out of the public eye so that it could continue its consolidation of power under the banner of Hindu nationalism.
In early March, India's health minister Harsh Vardhan declared the country was "in the endgame" of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Mr Vardhan also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership as an "example to the world in international co-operation".
[ ... ]
India's election authorities announced key elections in five states where 186 million people were eligible to vote for 824 seats. Beginning 27 March, the polls would stretch over a month, and in the case of the state of West Bengal, be held in eight phases. Campaigning had begun in full swing, with no safety protocols and social distancing. In mid-March, the cricket board allowed more than 130,000 fans, mostly unmasked, to watch two international cricket games between India and England at the Narendra Modi stadium in Gujarat.
In less than a month, things began to unravel. India was in the grips of a devastating second wave of the virus and cities were facing fresh lockdowns.
[ ... ]
India is in now in the grips of a public health emergency. Social media feeds are full with videos of Covid funerals at crowded cemeteries, wailing relatives of the dead outside hospitals, long queues of ambulances carrying gasping patients, mortuaries overflowing with the dead, and patients, sometimes two to a bed, in corridors and lobbies of hospitals.
India this month makes parts of New York City in April 2020 seem like a health resort. Despite the pandemic, large cricket matches, religious festivals, and election rallies were allowed to take place in India during the past ten weeks. The horrific scenes we now see across the country are a result.
Oxygen is in short supply and hospitals are being overwhelmed. Delhi’s highest court is threatening to execute any official who obstructs oxygen supplies.
The Delhi High Court on Saturday said that if any official at the central, state or local administration is found obstructing the supply of oxygen, then “we will not spare that man”.
As seen by drone, New Delhi is aglow as the funeral pyres of COVID-19 victims flicker in the twilight. Some parking lots have turned into cremation sites.
Tumblr media
Authoritarians are not good at handling public health emergencies. The sooner India gets rid of Modi or at least weakens his grip on power, the sooner the country will start to recover.
