Jab Jab, rooted in Grenada and Trinidad as Jab Molassie, is a cultural phenomenon with deep historical significance.
Jab Jab has ties to the pre-Lenten festivities in the French colonies, where the bourgeoisie donned lavish costumes and danced to the melodies of well-tuned orchestras. In stark contrast, the enslaved engaged in their own interpretation. They adorned themselves with cane ashes, oil, or grease and created music using improvised instruments like biscuit tins, oil drums, and conch shells. This was a form of satirical commentary.
The term "Jab" traces its origins to the French word "diable," meaning "devil." This signifies the subversive nature of Jab Jab culture, with masqueraders symbolically assuming the role of the devil, offering poignant commentary on colonial oppression.
Jab Jab, represented by individuals of African or Afro-Caribbean descent, features too distinct costumes with goat horns, thick chains, and symbolic artifacts. At the Notting Hill Carnival, these vibrant costumes come alive, celebrating the resilience and cultural pride of the Caribbean diaspora.
It's essential to note that Jab Jab's historical and cultural context has sometimes been misunderstood, leading to misinterpretations by right wing fanatics on Twitter (where else?). The complex themes and symbolism within Jab Jab culture provide a unique lens through which to view the Caribbean's rich history and heritage.

The evening air in Ibiza was warm, with the scent of the sea mingling with the aromas of grilled seafood and fresh herbs from the restaurant kitchen. Marisol sat at the dinner table, her fingers idly tracing the rim of her wine glass as she stole glances at her brother, Eduardo. He hadn’t said much since they arrived, a stark contrast to his usual easygoing, lively self. Instead, he seemed distant, his responses clipped, his gaze often drifting off toward the horizon where the sun had dipped below the sea, leaving a twilight glow in its wake.
Elliot, ever perceptive, had tried to engage Eduardo in conversation, asking about the latest happenings back home in Grenada, but Eduardo had offered little more than monosyllabic answers. Marisol had noticed the furrow in Elliot’s brow, the way he glanced at her with concern, but she simply gave him a reassuring smile. She didn’t want to ruin the evening by addressing whatever was bothering Eduardo in front of Elliot.
But as dinner wore on and Eduardo’s silence became more pronounced, Marisol’s patience began to fray. She could sense the tension radiating from him, could see the way his jaw tightened each time the conversation veered toward her and Elliot’s plans to move to Austin. It was unlike Eduardo to hold back his feelings, especially with her. They had always been close, sharing everything from their childhood secrets to their deepest fears. So why was he holding back now?
As the waiter cleared their plates and offered dessert, Marisol shook her head politely and glanced at Eduardo. “Do you want to take a walk?” she asked, trying to keep her tone light.
Eduardo looked up at her, his dark eyes unreadable, and then nodded. “Sure.”
They left Elliot at the table, assuring him they wouldn’t be long, and stepped out onto the cobblestone street. The night was alive with the sounds of music and laughter, but Marisol barely noticed. She led the way down a quiet path that opened up to a view of the moonlit ocean. They walked in silence for a few minutes before Marisol couldn’t take it any longer.
“Eddy, what’s going on?” she asked, stopping to face him. “You’ve been quiet all evening, and it’s not like you. Did I do something to upset you?”
Eduardo exhaled slowly, running a hand through his dark hair. “No, Mari, it’s not that.” He paused, his gaze dropping to the ground before meeting hers again. “It’s just… you’re planning to move to Texas, and I can’t help but feel like you’re leaving us behind.”
Marisol blinked, taken aback. “Leaving you behind? Eduardo, you know that’s not true. Elliot and I—this move, it’s what we need to start fresh after everything that’s happened.”
“I know,” he said, his voice tight. “But what about us? What about Papá? He’s been asking about you every day since Mamá died. He doesn’t say it, but I can see it in his eyes—he’s worried. We both are. We thought… we thought you might come back to Spain.”
Marisol felt her heart clench. She hadn’t realized how much they had been holding on to the hope that she would return. She had been so focused on finding her own way through her grief, on starting a new life with Elliot, that she hadn’t considered the impact her decisions were having on her family.
“Eduardo, I…” Her voice faltered as she searched for the right words. “I didn’t know you and Papá felt that way. I thought you understood why I needed this change, why I needed to be with Elliot.”
“We do understand,” Eduardo replied softly. “But understanding doesn’t make it any easier. We’ve already lost Mamá, and now it feels like we’re losing you too. Papá wanted me to talk to you, to see if you’d reconsider moving back home. We need you, Marisol. Spain is where you belong.”
Marisol stood there, torn between the life she wanted to build with Elliot and the pull of her family, who were still struggling to find their footing after her mother’s death. She looked out at the ocean, the waves crashing against the rocks below, and felt the weight of the decision she would have to make.
“I love you, Eduardo,” she finally said, her voice thick with emotion. “And I love Papá. But Elliot he’s… he’s my person. The one. I can’t just walk away from that. I don’t want to.”
Eduardo clicked his tongue in disappointment, shaking his head as he pushed away from the wall he leant against. “Good luck with that,” He murmured, disappearing into the streets of Ibiza, leaving her with only a lump in her throat and the bill.

1983: Michael Jackson was rocking with Billie Jean, the United States invaded Grenada (which I thought was a Ford car), and Microsoft releases Word.
Meanwhile at Edwards: An air-to-air view from the boom operator's window of the B-1B/159 testbed aircraft (originally the No. 2 B-1 prototype) approaching the refueling boom of a KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft during a test flight over the Pacific Ocean
The first B-1A 74-0158 was rolled out of USAF Plant 42 at Palmdale California and flew it’s first flight in 1974. The second jet, 79-0159, used for static ground testing did not make its first flight until 1976. Due to rising costs, President Jimmy Carter cancelled the program in 1977. Even though the program was cancelled, flight testing continued.
74-0158 flew 138 sorties, had been painted with a three-tone desert camouflage scheme, and was eventually retired in April of 1981.
When the B-1 program was restarted by President Ronald Reagan in 1981, 74-0159 was used at the flight test article. During the earlier test program, this jet reached a speed of Mach 2.2.
Unfortunately, this jet crashed on August 29th, 1984, when transferring fuel caused the aircraft’s center of gravity to exceed limitations. The crew ejected using the escape capsule and the Chief Test Pilot, Doug Benefield was killed while two other crew members survived with serious injuries.

Birthday Kisses
Little something for Alex's birthday.
Despite the fact that Alex didn't always like his birthday (and in fact, rarely celebrated it) ever since he and Henry got together, they've had a sort of mini competition on who can give the other the best birthday, yet.
While most would assume that it would involve elaborate parties or trips or gifts, their favorite birthdays were days spent entirely focused on loving on each other.
Usually that's in their home in New York, but sometimes it does involve some destination traveling. Which is how on Alex's 25th birthday, he finds himself on Henry's yacht, moored somewhere off the coast of Grenada, a Caribbean island that they had traveled to for the week. While they could've stayed in a villa, it was more fun and private to stay on his yacht.
Of course, Alex would be happy with anything that allows him to be with Henry.
"Alright, you can come in now," Henry yells through the hatch that leads directly to their master bedroom from the top deck.
He'd been determined to set up some sort of birthday surprise that would "knock his socks off" which caused Alex to laugh that he wasn't wearing any socks, but he played along anyway.
Hence enjoying the view while waiting for Henry's surprise.
Now, though, with the crew and security "gone", he's finally got Henry alone and about to find out what said surprise is.
He makes his way down the latter and finds himself in their room, which as rose petals on the bed with Henry laying in a sexual pose in red lace lingerie and buttercream cupcakes in front of him. Light romantic music fills the room, and Alex can't help but smile… Henry sure knows the way to his heart (not that Alex had any doubts).
He approaches the bed and dips his finger in the frosting before tracing it on his lips. "Is this your way of saying you're my birthday present?" He teases.
"Oh, always," Henry offers as he leans up to pull Alex down. "I figure birthday kisses are your favorite kisses after all."
Alex grins. "Definitely my favorite," he offers before pressing his lips against Henry's.
He could easily take lazily making out as his favorite present ever, but as his hands wander over Henry's chest and to his outfit, he can't help thinking he's quite happy for more tonight.
That break apart ever so slightly, and Henry grins at him. "Happy birthday, love. Have your way with me."
"Gladly."

VOR: Margaret Thatcher
Hm, I don't have strong Iron Lady opinions, so low confidence on this one.
My general stance is decently high? You know I should be tiering these for fun, so I am going to go with B- tier. The neoliberal reforms that the Tories pursued were far from sui generis; they were the reforms being pursued by virtually every conservative European faction in the 1980's, and several liberal-left ones at that. Europe's growth model of the postwar period had done well, but hit its limits, it was the natural turn. And on other conservative social topics she was even more bog-standard - I don't view her as a visionary.
But her epithet is quite accurate - she was uncompromising in a way that very few of her peers were. Particularly in relation to her legislation around trade unions and reforms of the tax system, most would have balked, and she not only didn't but was very effective at keeping party discipline in the face of strikes & protest. The UK would have passed less sweeping reforms without her, and those reforms changed the nature of the British economy & the political economy around that.
Now, the UK's economy was broken, something had to give, so some reform would have passed. And she lost many political fights, particularly around international trade & EU, and in foreign affairs she was a classic vor-cel, saying this or that and then going along with the consensus opinion (Hong Kong's transfer, unification of Germany, Grenada invasion, etc). But you can tell what she cared about and didn't - she spent her political capital well for her goals. A solid VOR for her.

Ideologically, our world is in the throes of a major regression to the woman-hating dogmas of both Christian and Islamic fundamentalism. There is in literature and film an unprecedented barrage of violence against women, of graphic portrayals of woman-murder and rape compared to which the earlier literary violence (of a Taming of the Shrew or a Don Juan) pales to insignificance. Also unprecedented is the current proliferation of hard-core pornography that, through a multi-billion-dollar industry, blares out into the home from books, magazines, comic strips, movies, and even cable television the message that sexual pleasure lies in violence, in the brutalization, enslavement, torture, mutilation, degradation, and humiliation of the female sex.
As Theodore Roszak noted, the resistance to the nineteenth-century feminist movement was marked by an increase in what crime records term aggravated assault, severe, bone-breaking domestic beatings, the setting of a wife on fire, the putting out of her eyes. Because throughout recorded history violence against women has been the androcratic system's response to any threat of fundamental change, in the wake of the twentieth-century women's liberation movement has come a substantial rise in violence against women. Examples are Indian bride burnings, Iranian public executions, Latin American imprisonments and tortures, worldwide wife batterings, and the global terrorism of rapes—which scholars estimate now occur in the United States at the rate of one every thirteen seconds.
Viewed from the perspective of Cultural Transformation theory, the systems function of the massive and brutal violence against women today is not hard to see. If androcracy is to be maintained, women must be suppressed at all cost. And if this violence—and the incitements to violence through the revival of religious calumnies against women and the equation of sexual pleasure with the killing, raping, and torturing of women—is mounting all over our globe, it is because never before has male dominance been as vigorously challenged through a global, mutually reinforcing, synergistic women's movement for human liberation.
Never before has the world seen such a mushrooming of governmental and nongovernmental organizations with memberships in the millions—groups ranging from the official All China Women's Federation to the National Women's Studies Association, the National Organization for Women, and the Older Women's League in the United States—all dedicated to improving the status of women. Never before has there been a United Nations Decade for Women. Never before have there been global conferences attracting thousands of women from every corner of the world to address the problems stemming from male supremacy. Never before in all of recorded history have women from every nation on this earth come together to work for a future of sexual equality, development, and peace—the three goals of the First United Nations Decade for Women.
The growing recognition by women—and men—that these three goals are related stems from the intuitive perception of the dynamics we have been examining. For once the function of male violence against women is perceived, it is not hard to see how men who are taught they must dominate the half of humanity that is not as physically strong as they are will also think it their "manly" duty to conquer weaker men and nations.
Be it in the name of national defense, as in the USA and USSR, or in the holy name of God, as in the Muslim world, war or the preparation for war serve not only to reinforce male dominance and male violence but, as illustrated by both Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Russia, also to reinforce androcracy's third major systems component, authoritarianism. Times of war provide justification for "strongman" leadership. They also justify the suspension of civil liberties and rights—as illustrated by the news blackout during the U.S. invasion of Grenada in 1983 and the chronic martial law in embattled nation after nation in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
In the past, the pendulum has always swung back from peace to war. Whenever more "feminine" values have risen for a time, threatening to transform the system, an aroused and fearful androcracy has thrust us back. But must the current swing backward inevitably bring on more and more domestic and international violence and, with it, more and more suppression of civil liberties and rights?
Is there really no way out of another—now, nuclear—war? Is this to be the end for the cultural evolution that began with such hope in the age of the Goddess, when the power of the life-giving Chalice was still supreme? Or are we now close enough to gaining our freedom to avert that end?
-Riane Eisler, The Chalice and the Blade: Our History, Our Future

Past two days I’ve been walking 6 miles round trip to the beach after the volunteer work I’ve signed up for here in Grenada.
Trying to get back into some sort of habit that has all but been lost since my personal life and work life have constantly been beating me down.
Accepting I’m meant to be alone. Trying to just fight my own inner demons because I’m the only person that cares at the end of the day even though it feels as if I don’t care at all. Sad existence, existing.
Anyway. Enjoy the beautiful views and help me stay on track for more regular workouts/running/cycling?

confessing to luci. nuff said. but i wanna say more so im gonna: it was me realizing i was in love at the same time as confessing cause i kinda just asked for advice in a group server w them fdsgjsksl. we were already qpps and apparently my family thought we were already dating (i mean we called beem our soulmate like - ✨️) but like i wound up spending the whole afternoon just thinking about them and being giddy. it was nice - Luna 🌙
mine's gotta be the first time we climbed that abandoned water tower past the ravine. we had spraycans and i wrote trans rights on the side of it. the wind gave us such a thrill, it was incredible. and the view was definitely worth it - Waks 📹
im claiming that time in grade 11 when our gr9 science teacher + gr11-12 bio teacher mr coulter approached me and asked if i wanted to go on a field trip to the science centre that was intended for the grade 12 kids. i didnt know anyone but i didnt care bc mr coulter was there and i wore my new animaniacs shirt and i got to run around the science centre itself during the lunch break and play with genetics stuff (i was such a nerd about punett squares and all that its no wonder he asked me specifically). i think the best part was the feeling i had when i was sitting next to mr coulter on the bus ride there and back. he let me take a selfie with him.... mr coulter was like a father to me, so it meant a lot. - Quinn ✉️
i wanna relive when we were playing with shanny and teagsi and we climbed the big tree near the ice rink by our school. i used to read up there too :) - Little One 👾
the body's nanna flew us out to grenada in march... i would like to relive swimming at that beach, on that little island in carriacou. the water was clear and a such beautiful blue, the air was just a little too warm and humid, and sitting on that beach reminded me of my old home - Riku/Shore ⚔️
mine's gotta be the second year we went to camp mini yo we! specifically, reading the letters mom wrote me for each day of the week. she wrote a little story about me; i was the doctor's daughter but i didnt know it, and i had powers that warped me through space and time seemingly at random. she wrote that i found a place and led a revolution against tyrannical oppressive overlords. not single-handedly taking down the villains, but helping empower the people so they could fight for themselves. by the end of the week we had found a crowd of invested listeners in the other girls at camp. it was nice... i think about those letters a lot - Secret 🧩
we were bodily sitting alone in the grass at a local park, it was right as we were discovering our plurality. i could see all of us all over the park, as if we were all there. the kids were playing tag, some were poking around in the forest right there, quinn was in that big tree we like to sit under... scrooge and quinslap were off smoking a joint, sitting on a tree trunk that had grown a little horizontal before it remembered to grow up. it wasnt in our view but we know the path and it was in the area enough that they could be there while our body simply sat in the grass. it was a fascinating and beautiful feeling. like a family picnic, but with only one person present. - [AR] Autopilot 💾
