Do You Know The Importance of Green House Technology and the usage?
Why is this so vital? Well, it helps farmers grow more food and beautiful flowers even when the weather outside is not so friendly. Greenhouses control things like temperature, humidity, and light, making it just perfect for plants to grow. Plus, they save water because it doesn’t evaporate as quickly inside a greenhouse, making farming more eco-friendly.

Modern agriculture has helped a lot of farmers to grow the quality and quantity of agricultural products. The same goes for another one of our experimental farmers, Mr. Ganesh Jadhav who started poly house farming which is generally known as Greenhouse Farming for his Fig plantation. He aspired to improve the quality of his farms and products and came across the idea of trying poly house farming which turned out to be a success. Watch this video to know, how he learned and inculcated the idea, what assistance he acquired, how #greenhousefarming improved the quality of his fig plantation, what factors are profitable due to poly house farming, what methods he uses to prevent infestation and provide fertilizers for his plantation. And how Greenhouse Farming gave a successful outcome to obtain quality yield. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8ZS-MJPJs8

Saying Goodbye
A week or two ago the boys told me that they had found a buyer for my late father's big hoop house. He had that put in when he was around 70, and grew flowers to wholesale to local florists. I doubt if he ever made a profit on that; his (numerous) business ventures tended to involve a whole lot of startup energy (and $) and then peter out as his adhd attention moved on to other things. He did do it for almost ten years, though, until he had a bad fall at age 80 that left him unable to get around any more.
He and I ended our decades-long estrangement when K was around 3 years old, and I remember helping out by planting tiny snapdragon seedlings in long rows inside that hoophouse. K, tiny as she was, was fascinated by planting and did a very good job helping.
Today folks will start disassembling it to ship the pieces east to a farm near where Roommate grew up. I'm happy it will have a good new home, and be used again. I'm a little sad to be losing it, but it's far too big for our needs.

The plastic only has a ten-year lifespan, and this piece tore about two years before my father passed away. He nagged us relentlessly to fix it. However, it was pointless to fix it (and have the clock start ticking on the new plastic) when he wasn't mobile enough to use it. Ah, folks with dementia get fixated on stuff and you just have to have the conversation over, and over, and over again.

On my way down the road to look at it this morning, I heard the first geese passing over heading north. Spring, soon!

garden update || 10/25/24 🌿🏡🥰🌱

see that very nice-looking raised bed on the bottom right? THAT'S NEWWWW!!! i just set these two new raised beds up yesterday with a dear friend who's been staying the night over the past few days!! yippee!! 🎉 i've been showing this friend of mine how to garden and letting them learn in my backyard. we've only done flowering plants so far as well as planting dill & cilantro seeds -- so yesterday, i decided it was time to learn about crops!
we sowed seeds for walking egyptian onions, broccoli de cicco, dill, and cilantro; but i plan on also teaching them how to transplant so we'll also transplant in more kale, cabbage, and hopefully chinese pink celery! this'll be a very full & very productive raised bed, i hope!

i also have a few pictures of the progress in the greenhouse box!

the seedlings are all steadily coming along! i do need to sow a LOT more chinese pink celery seeds, so i'll do that once i finally get another bag of soil (i already need 2 more for potting houseplant props, 4 more for my last raised garden bed, and probably 2 more for future seedlings -- augh my budget is so fucked).
currently in the greenhouse box, i have 8 chinese pink celery, 15 cilantro, 3 copenhagen market cabbage, 3 blue-curled scotch kale, and 3 dill. (holy shit so much cilantro, they're going to be gifts for friends!!) i plan on transplanting the kale, cabbage, & pink celery all into the raised beds, i'm just waiting for them to grow up a bit more unfortunately.

i also have photos of some of the flowering plants in the raised beds from today! i use an app on my phone called planta to keep track of all my plants, and once a month, i like to upload photos & notes as a monthly plant progress report. it does get pretty daunting, seeing allllll the tasks that i have to do daily in the app, but i slowly make my way through it! i'm one of those people who just really likes recording & organizing stuff, especially hobbies like reading, gardening, writing, working out, et cetera. i've got apps/websites for most of them!
the butterfly milkweed, bee balm, and coneflowers are steadily going dormant for the cold seasons -- i really really hope they survive and thrive in the spring!!! i'm proud to say i've been a lot better about remembering to prune my chrysanthemums and they definitely look a lot happier (especially compared to last fall's mums)! that coleus is inevitably going to die off, i've accepted it since they're not really meant for outdoors especially in the ground. my lithodora is looking alright (hopefully will bloom again in the spring), my gerbera daisies are looking gorgeous, and the petunias are doing alright (yet are looking a bit... scattered, i suppose).

that's mostly it now for this garden update! i will say my zinnias are still going mighty strong, and i've been seeing soooo many bugs & critters in my tiny lil city suburb garden, and that makes me happy! the stray cats are mostly comfortable with me, the birds love their bird feeders, the squirrels keep taking shits in my raised beds (as well as this one stray cat i call cinnabun), and there's a regular praying mantis in my garden that i am lowkey terrified of (she's just so fucking huge i think she's cool and i respect her but damn she watches me steadily and it's freaky)!
i am potentially going to try to make an arch trellis in the garden with these camping tent poles that i want to repurpose, so maybe that'll be my next big thing? or i do still want to do another greenhouse box once my budget is not as tight (although that's looking like not anytime soon unfortunately) -- we'll see in the future!!
thank you for sticking around this long, and i hope everyone has a wonderful day + weekend!!! :)

today, let's talk about
✨️ aphids ✨️
specifically, when you have a basic greenhouse enclosure (aka not a commercial-built high tunnel with all the accessories).
aphids will be a problem. guaranteed. this is due to lack of airflow (like, legit airflow from wind or a very robust intake/exhaust system). i have a fan or few for my greenhouse tunnel contraption, but it's more for to help prevent stagnant air and keep the temperature uniform. i'm not at aphid-prevention level of airflow yet. and that's ok, because over the past few years i have learned the signs and what to do about them and today i am sharing with you.
✨️ step 1: finding ✨️
there is one tell tale sign that indicate you are in the presence of aphids. just like other pests, the sign you'll see is poop. for aphids, this looks almost like white and clear glitter on leaves. on the soil, it will look more like white glitter. the leaves will also be very sticky. sticky, glitter poop.
✨️ step 2: locating ✨️
ok, we found the pest poop. now to find the pests.
aphids nom on two parts of the plant: the newest growth, and under the leaves. as you see here, the very tip of this pepper plant has some babies. now when we get to the next stage, keep in mind that since the aphids are here, you already lost the game. there's no hope in this new growth unless you do the following and final step.
✨️ step 3: elimination ✨️
no no, put that neem oil down. neem oil kills any and all bugs. it does not detect which is good and which is bad. no no, dish soap and water legit does nothing except wash the poop away; ignore what pinterest and the influencers say about that combo. ok, army of ladybugs bought at the local hardware store is good, but we gotta do one more thing before we unleash them. and that's 𝓼𝓺𝓾𝓲𝓼𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰.
legit, the only way to remove an aphid infestation, regardless of what stage of infestation ("beginning", "haha, i'm in danger", or "HELP I'M DROWING IN GLITTER POOP") the most effective way to have any hope of saving the plants is to squish the aphids. this will not happen all in one day, nor two days, or three. day three is when you unleash the ladybug army, though, and i'll explain why in a second.
day one you'll be in shook and overwhelemed, and squish to your hearts content. but you will not get every single one nor any eggs. day two will show progress. day three is now manageable, and all the subsequent days afterwards will be to ensure you got every. single. last. one. including the eggs that hatch.
✨️ final step: release the hoard ✨️
sadly i can't find my video of releasing ladybug hoards in the greenhouse in years past... so i'll just scatter ladybugs 🐞 as i type this 🐞 part out to help with the ambiance.
ladybugs and other happy 🐞 bugs love to eat aphids. why not 🐞 have them do all the work?
well, think of your favorite cake. like legit the most perfect cake you could ever imagine. mine is yellow cake with chocolate mousse frosting and sliced fresh bananas. mmmm...
now imagine 20 of those, 🐞 and they're capable of reproduction. don't ask how, but they do. at a rate of 10 cakes every 🐞 other day.
🐞 how long will it take for you to be able to eat all those cakes before they can stop reproducing??
also, keep in mind when you purchase a pack of live ladybugs, only about 2/3rds actually are alive in the packet 🐞 by the time they make it to freedom and the remaining will either die very shortly from the last bit of energy to be free and fly away or just fly away and enjoy being elsewhere because they're an 🐞 introvert who was just stuck in a bag for a month or so 🐞🐞🐞🐞 and fuck everyone and everything they just want to leave regardless of the buffet at their feet.
that will leave you with approximately 10 ladybugs. and now that 🐞 you have done all that squishing, they will keep the aphids in check and make sure they don't pop up ever again. now your plants will attempt to regrow and leaves or new growth they lost and be happy.
✨️ the end 🐞✨️

I think it's so funny to decorate room by room because you can tell which room I have no clue what to do with
#stardew valley#sdv#video games#gaming#sdv farmhouse#the junimo plant is LITERALLY the best furniture item#it's SUCH a good space taker#i think the last room is just going to be a partial indoor greenhouse and butterfly farm#and then just a reading nook#i like that the island house is literally just the farmer's. it would be cool if your spouse could visit it when they go to the beach tho#but like. it's JUST the farmer's space. you don't have to worry about furniture obscuring pathing of the spouse/children#so when i decorate this house i always like to go 'what would *i* want in this space'#i honestly really like how this house is turning out. i didn't think it would take the direction it did lol#it's a very blue house which is surprising because my favourite colour is yellow and i usually decorate with it primarily
