Kennel Quilts
Hurricane Helene has left people without homes, and many pets are now in shelters. Kennel quilts are very much needed, and are a low budget option for those with limited supplies and time.
Here's the FB page for Kennel Quilts. If you're on FB, I suggest following them. If you don't use FB, got to the link below to sign up for their mailing list. Emails are sent out only when a kennel quilts are needed.
If you can't make a quilt, but would still like to help, you have the option to donate to Petfinder here.
25 kennel quilts can fit into a medium size USPS flat rate box. These are not large quilts. Here are guidelines and free patterns you can download and use for making these. The finished size is about 12x18 inches, the same size as most placemats. This is the form to print and include with the quilts you finish and donate.
These are shelters listed in the various emails I receive from Kennel Quilts:

Hey folks. I'm from the weather/emergency management community and I cannot stress enough how much you need to spread the word on this situation.
BPR has an excellent resource article which I'll include just below.
And here's some clarification and expansion for y'all here on the outside just so you can understand the scope of this catastrophe. OP and anyone adding to this with other commentary/images they have are not exaggerating in the slightest, but I can see around my field that a lot is being lost in translation to folks who think that this is like any hurricane flooding event. It is not.
Asheville is one of the largest cities in WNC. Almost every major road in and out is closed- I-26 southbound is open, but local EMS is requesting travel be prioritized for emergency and relief services. I-40 is closed in both directions because entire sections of the road are gone. I-26 between NC and TN is closed because entire sections are gone. I-40E between NC and TN is closed. At one point US 74 was essentially a river. US 441, US 64, US 178, US 321, US 19E, NC 80, TN 81, these roads are all closed, and the smaller local roads have fared even worse. Many are not just impassable but destroyed.
I have seen photos of well over half of Chimney Rock's main street completely swept away. There were at least four major dam overtoppings/or near failures- Below Lake Lure in NC (near failure), the Swannanoa upstream of Black Mountain in NC (overtopping), Nolichucky in TN (near failure), Walters Dam in TN (overtopping, may have been leaking). The Swannanoa and French Broad Rivers both beat their record flood peaks, which are well into Major Flood stage. Several points on the French Broad broke records by 10+ feet. Boone NC was at least partly underwater- App State managed to get their central dining hall open on generator power to feed any of the community who need it. Biltmore Village NC was flooded out. Unicoi County TN has essentially lost their primary hospital after having to call for emergency evacuations for 50+ people. Greeneville TN's water pumps are inoperable, destroyed, and the facility can no longer provide any water.
And these are only the parts that we've seen. Thousands of people are missing and/or unable to contact anyone because cell and internet service, already spotty in the mountains, is now effectively nonexistent with tower failures. Typical volunteer rescue groups like the Cajun Navy cannot get in to the worst hit areas- There are no roads to follow and you cannot reasonably traverse mountain floodwaters. Helicopters are available, but were limited by continued storms through yesterday and lack of available landing spaces in the mountains, and are being prioritized for emergency evacuations. The major aid resources like the National Guard and FEMA cannot get in because there are few places to land and fewer to drive. Electrical line workers and cell/internet/radio workers cannot get in to make critical repairs, and are hampered by still soggy, unstable, and partially flooded landscapes. Road repairs cannot be made on impassable, unstable terrain or over still flooding rivers. The mainstream media cannot get in to cover this in more detail because there is no transit in and out.
However bad you think this looks, it is 10, 50, 100 times worse because we cannot see it yet. So anything, awareness or donation, all of it helps or will help. You've likely seen/heard what happened in Katrina and the aftermath. Please don't let this end the same way because geographic circumstances meant national media couldn't get there in the first three days.
appalachia is devastated. towns i loved, towns i visited all the time, are gone. not damaged, GONE. they are leveled to the ground. there is nothing left but rubble and ruin. people are dead. appalachia is poor to begin with and relies on tourism for a lot of its income, and multiple of those tourist locations are just...gone.
my town is okay, but it's flooded and wrecked. trees are blocking all but one way out of our neighborhood. power lines are hanging limp in the roads. we've been without power for over 24 hours and will continue to be without power for likely another 24+. disabled people and poor people are GOING to die from this. gods save appalachia.

Dawgs Stop Rain, Greene Devils
Bearden 6 at Greeneville 0
Tuesday, April 30, 2024 7:30pm
GREENEVILLE, TN--Sophomore Aiden Ainsworth, junior Lucas Ford, and senior Omar Hewezi each had a goal and an assist to lead Bearden to a 6-0 road win at Greeneville’s Burley Stadium Tuesday.
The Bulldogs were unable to score during the rain-soaked first period, but Coach Ryan Radcliffe’s halftime pep talk seemingly cleared the skies, complete with rainbows and a beautiful sunset, and the rout was on.
Ainsworth got things started with a nice near-post strike, then drew a penalty kick deep inside the box off a Preston Ford assist, which Jack Raulston adroitly buried into the upper-90.
Sophomore Ahmed Dkhiri scored two minutes later, following a Cole Stopka header and Dillon Sims corner kick, just three minutes before Lucas Ford scored off a nice Nic Prins pass down the left side.
Sophomore Omar Ardahji put the continuous clock rule in effect with his sixth goal of the season, and Jack Tirgrath found an open Hewezi for a strike just before the final horn.
Goals: AIDEN AINSWORTH (46’ assist-Lucas Ford); JACK RAULSTON (53’ penalty kick/Aiden Ainsworth, Preston Ford); AHMED DKHIRI (55’ Cole Stopka, Dillon Sims); LUCAS FORD (58’ Nic Prins); OMAR ARDAHJI (65’ Omar Hewezi); OMAR HEWEZI (79’ Jack Tirgrath).
Shots/Shots-on-goal: BHS 21/15 GHS 7/2.Corners: BHS 4 GHS 1. Fouls: BHS 7 GHS 6. Offsides: BHS 2 GHS 0. Conditions: artificial turf football field, first half rain, 60 degrees.
Outside the box.........the game was delayed 30 minutes because of the storm.........Bearden needs a win at West Thursday to ensure two home games in next week’s District 4 playoffs.........Raulston and Sims lead the team with 12 goals each, and Lucas Ford tops the assist chart with 12.........Woof!
