How to Choose the Right Mosaic Tiles for Your Home
The sun was barely peeking over the horizon when I set out on my mission. Armed with a cup of coffee and a newfound determination, I was ready to tackle the daunting task of choosing the perfect mosaic tiles for my home renovation project. Little did I know that my visit to a tile shop in Singapore would turn into an enlightening adventure, filled with discoveries that would transform not just my home, but my entire approach to interior design.
The Overwhelming World of Mosaic Tiles
As I pushed open the door of the tile shop, I was immediately engulfed by a kaleidoscope of colors, patterns, and textures. Mosaic tiles of every imaginable variety lined the walls and floors, creating a dizzying display that left me both excited and overwhelmed.
"First time choosing mosaic tiles?" a friendly voice asked, cutting through my bewilderment. I turned to see Sarah, the shop owner, smiling knowingly at me.
"Is it that obvious?" I laughed, feeling a bit sheepish.
"Don't worry," Sarah reassured me. "By the time you leave this tile shop in Singapore, you'll be an expert in choosing the perfect mosaic tiles for your home. Let's start with the basics, shall we?"
Understanding the Basics: Material Matters
Sarah led me to a display showcasing various types of mosaic tiles. "The first step in choosing the right mosaic tiles is understanding the different materials available," she explained.
We examined glass mosaic tiles, their surfaces gleaming under the shop lights. "Glass mosaic tiles are perfect for adding a touch of luxury and light to any space," Sarah noted. "They're great for bathrooms and kitchens because they're water-resistant and easy to clean."
Next, we moved on to ceramic and porcelain mosaic tiles. "These are the workhorses of the tile world," Sarah said. "Durable, versatile, and available in countless designs, they're suitable for almost any area of your home."
Finally, we looked at natural stone mosaic tiles. "These bring a piece of nature into your home," Sarah explained. "They're unique and add warmth, but require more maintenance than other types."
As I ran my fingers over the different textures, I began to appreciate the unique qualities of each material. The choice, I realized, wasn't just about aesthetics, but also about practicality and lifestyle.
The Color Conundrum: Setting the Mood
With a better understanding of materials, we moved on to the next crucial aspect: color. "Color can make or break a space," Sarah said, gesturing to a wall of mosaic tiles arranged in a mesmerizing color gradient.
"Think about the mood you want to create in each room," she advised. "Cool blues and greens can create a calming atmosphere in a bathroom, while warm terra cottas and ochres can make a kitchen feel cozy and inviting."
Sarah showed me how to use color wheels and mood boards to create harmonious color schemes. She also introduced me to the concept of using neutral mosaic tiles as a base and adding pops of color through accent tiles.
"Remember," she added, "light plays a crucial role in how colors appear. Always take samples home and view them in the actual space before making a final decision."
Size and Pattern: The Art of Visual Impact
As we delved deeper into the world of mosaic tiles, Sarah introduced me to the impact of size and pattern. "The size of your mosaic tiles can dramatically affect the perception of space," she explained.
We looked at tiny mosaic tiles, no bigger than my thumbnail, and larger ones the size of my palm. "Smaller tiles can make a space feel more intricate and detailed, while larger ones can make a room feel more spacious," Sarah said.
She then showed me how different patterns could create various effects. "Herringbone patterns can add a sense of movement, while basket weave patterns create a more structured look," she explained, demonstrating each pattern with sample boards.
"Don't be afraid to mix and match," Sarah encouraged. "Combining different sizes and patterns of mosaic tiles can create stunning, unique designs."
Practical Considerations: Beyond Aesthetics
As our tour of the tile shop in Singapore continued, Sarah emphasized the importance of practical considerations. "Choosing the right mosaic tiles isn't just about looks," she said. "You need to think about durability, maintenance, and safety too."
We discussed slip resistance for bathroom floors, stain resistance for kitchen backsplashes, and durability for high-traffic areas. Sarah introduced me to concepts like the Porcelain Enamel Institute (PEI) rating for tile durability and the importance of choosing the right grout.
"And don't forget about your budget," Sarah added. "Mosaic tiles can range from affordable to luxury prices. But remember, there are clever ways to use more expensive tiles as accents while using budget-friendly options for larger areas."
Bringing It All Together: Creating Your Vision
As our journey through the tile shop neared its end, Sarah had one final piece of advice. "The key to choosing the right mosaic tiles is to have a clear vision for your space," she said. "Think about how the room will be used, the overall style of your home, and how you want to feel when you're in the space."
She encouraged me to create a mood board, combining tile samples with fabric swatches, paint colors, and images of furniture and decor. "This will help you see how everything works together and ensure your mosaic tiles enhance your overall design," she explained.
The Journey Continues: From Tile Shop to Home Sweet Home
As I left the tile shop in Singapore, my head was spinning with ideas and inspiration. What had started as a daunting task had turned into an exciting journey of discovery. I had learned that choosing the right mosaic tiles was about more than just picking something pretty – it was about creating a harmonious, functional, and personal space.
Armed with samples, a mood board, and newfound knowledge, I was ready to transform my home. The mosaic tiles I chose would not just cover my floors and walls; they would tell my story, reflect my style, and create the perfect backdrop for the life I wanted to live.
So, if you find yourself standing at the threshold of a tile shop, feeling overwhelmed by the world of mosaic tiles, remember this: every tile tells a story. Your job is to find the ones that tell yours. Happy tiling!

Tips on How to Achieve Vintage and Contemporary Design Bathroom Elements
Designing a bathroom that blends vintage and contemporary styles can create a unique, aesthetically pleasing space. The fusion of these design elements allows for a room that feels timeless yet modern, making it a perfect fit for homeowners who want the charm of the past and the convenience of current trends. Here are tips on how to incorporate vintage and contemporary design elements in your bathroom renovation.
Start with a Neutral Color Palette
A key component to successfully blending vintage and contemporary design in your bathroom is choosing a neutral color palette. Shades like white, cream, grey, and soft pastels provide a versatile backdrop that complements classic vintage fixtures with sleek modern touches. A neutral color palette will help unify the space and allow you to play with contrasting styles.
For a vintage look, you can add subtle touches of pastel pinks, greens, or blues reminiscent of 1950s or Victorian-era bathrooms. Introduce clean lines and minimalistic tones such as matte black or brushed nickel for modern fixtures and accessories to infuse a contemporary feel.
Mix Classic Vintage Fixtures with Modern Elements
One of the easiest ways to merge vintage and contemporary bathroom styles is to mix classic fixtures with modern elements. Vintage elements like clawfoot bathtubs, pedestal sinks, or antique brass fixtures from this collection of Kohler Artifacts Collection faucets can instantly bring timeless charm to your bathroom. Complement these with sleek, modern touches, such as frameless glass shower doors or minimalist vanities, to add contemporary sophistication.
For example, pair a vintage freestanding tub with a modern rain showerhead or install a retro-style sink with a chic, streamlined faucet. This approach balances the ornate and detailed look of vintage fixtures with the simplicity of modern design.
Focus on Flooring and Tiles
Flooring plays a significant role in the overall aesthetic of your bathroom. To achieve a harmonious mix of vintage and contemporary, opt for classic flooring materials like black-and-white checkerboard tiles or herringbone-patterned tiles, which have a nostalgic appeal. Then, introduce a modern design with clean, minimal grout lines, larger tiles, or even hexagon tiles in neutral shades.
Subway tiles are another versatile option that can work well for both styles. You can use traditional white subway tiles with a glossy finish to capture a vintage vibe but lay them in a more contemporary vertical or herringbone pattern to add a modern twist. Alternatively, you could choose matte or oversized subway tiles for a more modern aesthetic while keeping the vintage feel intact.
Incorporate Vintage Accessories with Contemporary Hardware
Accessories are a great way to combine vintage and modern elements. Consider using vintage-style mirrors, such as a gold-framed or beveled-edge mirror, to add character to your bathroom. Pair these with contemporary lighting fixtures, like sleek sconces or geometric pendant lights, to keep the look fresh and current.
Likewise, adding vintage artwork or retro bathroom signs can give your space a nostalgic touch. At the same time, contemporary hardware—such as drawer pulls and towel bars in matte black, brushed brass, or polished chrome—ensures the space remains modern and functional.
Combine Traditional and Modern Lighting
Lighting can make or break a bathroom's atmosphere. Vintage-inspired lighting fixtures like chandeliers, globe lights, or sconces can add a soft, nostalgic glow to your bathroom. Consider pairing these with recessed or LED lighting to introduce a modern touch that ensures the space feels well-lit and functional.
For instance, you can install a vintage chandelier over a freestanding bathtub to create a luxurious, vintage look while integrating sleek LED lighting strips around mirrors and cabinets to emphasize the modern side of the design.
Embrace Vintage Textures with Contemporary Fixtures
Incorporating textured materials is an excellent way to blend vintage and contemporary design. For example, using vintage-style materials like marble, porcelain, or cast iron can evoke an old-world feel, while contemporary fixtures like floating vanities, frameless mirrors, and minimalistic shower systems add a modern touch.
You might opt for vintage-look wallpaper with floral or art deco designs, but pair it with sleek, modern fixtures to prevent the space from feeling too retro. You could also incorporate texture through vintage-inspired tiles for the walls or a richly textured rug on the bathroom floor.
Add Vintage Storage Solutions with a Modern Twist
Regarding bathroom storage, carefully selected furniture and storage units can blend vintage and contemporary designs. Vintage storage options like a reclaimed wood vanity or an antique armoire can add warmth and history to your bathroom. Complement these pieces with sleek, modern open shelving or floating cabinets that maintain the clean lines associated with contemporary design.
Alternatively, you can refurbish vintage furniture as a modern vanity by adding a sleek countertop and vessel sink, creating a functional yet stylish piece that embodies both eras.
Play with Contrast and Balance
The key to blending vintage and contemporary design is balance. You can create visual interest and maintain harmony in your bathroom by contrasting elements from both styles. For example, if you choose a vintage-inspired clawfoot bathtub, balance it with sleek, modern tiles and minimalist lighting. On the flip side, if your space is primarily contemporary with floating vanities and glass showers, incorporate vintage accessories, ornate mirrors, or traditional flooring to soften the look.
Blending vintage and contemporary elements in a bathroom creates a timeless yet stylish space. Mixing classic fixtures, traditional materials, and vintage accessories with sleek modern design elements allows you to achieve a harmonious balance that reflects your style and current trends. Whether adding a vintage clawfoot bathtub to an elegant, modern space or incorporating contemporary hardware into a more traditional bathroom, the result will be a beautifully designed room that stands the test of time. When embarking on your bathroom renovation, visit a local kitchen and bathroom design showroom to ask for bathroom and kitchen design guides. You can also explore fixtures and accessories that combine vintage and contemporary styles first-hand and seek expert advice on creating the perfect blend for your unique space.

They are also easy to install, and they have a non-slip surface. They are also available in a wide variety of shapes and colors, which means they can add unique flair to any bathroom.

The same effect can be achieved with a darker blue wall. Medium blues are not overpowering, but add a lot of personality to the space.

From finding the right contractor to hiring them, getting estimates and signing contracts, the bathroom remodeling process is complex. The process takes place under pressure because you don’t want to make mistakes but want to get things done as soon as possible. Here are some tips that can help you in your search for the right contractor to handle your bathroom remodelling job.
Start looking online. You don’t have to be limited by your options when it comes bathroom remodeling. You can search through sites like Trustedpros or Houzz to find contractors. Most sites will let you enter your zipcode to view local contractors with positive reviews. Always check their google reviews and portfolio.
Ask your friends and family. Your family members and friends may know of someone who recently remodelled a bathroom. Ask your friends and family if they’d be willing to share their experience with you. You might be eligible to receive a referral fee if they refer you.
Look into forums on the internet. You can find many forums for bathroom remodelling on Facebook. Here, people can post photos of their projects and get advice. Reddit as well Pinterest are popular.
Do your research. Verify the credentials of anyone you hire to do the job. You should check their licenses, qualifications, and insurance. You should also take note of past jobs. Are they familiar with bathroom design? Do they have experience in working with spaces of similar dimensions?

Join Nicole, the owner of Charleston Tru Homebuyers, as she takes us on a house tour of a beautifully renovated property on James Island in Charleston, SC. This property has undergone a stunning interior design renovation, bringing life and personality to a previously characterless brick ranch house.
Nicole's keen eye for design is evident as she highlights the importance of adding arches to create a higher level feeling, unique features such as bookshelves and an electric fireplace, and a galley-style kitchen with pantries, all without upper cabinets to make the space feel bigger. By paying attention to little details, such as adding gold and brass hinges, SC slates, and a bright white tile for the wall, she has created a space that feels custom and unique.
The bathroom renovation showcases Nicole's design ideas even further, as she used a green tile to add character to the space, added sconces for extra lighting, and incorporated little touches to make the space feel more personal. The master bath features a stunning herringbone wall, brass fixtures, and a beautifully darkened green tile, all of which work together to create an elegant and cohesive space. Nicole's attention to detail is clear in the different textures on the floor, which add depth and interest to the space.
Overall, Nicole's renovation details and design ideas demonstrate the importance of bringing character and uniqueness to a home renovation project. By paying attention to little touches, such as adding unique tiles, gold and brass accents, and different textures, homeowners can create custom spaces that reflect their personalities and taste. Bathroom interior trends
You’ve heard the rights, and the trend for 2022 is finally here! Coming out in the coming months. Bathroom design trends for 2022. Get the latest Bathroom interior style scoop from the industry and find inspiration for your next bathroom renovation! From tubs and showers to sinks and vanities. A variety of the latest textures, patterns, prints, finishes, and styles are here for the year ahead. This roundup contains the hottest designs that can give you the right kind of inspiration you didn’t know you needed. Whether you’re constructing a new house or designing a Bathroom, this list that you can consider flashing some creativity.
Extra-large coloured tiles
Grey may have been by far one of the most popular styles for bathroom remodelling projects, but that’s all about to change. This season continues the bolder and hotter styles. Grey is good but the colour is better! In our Hot Bathroom interior Trends, many pointed out that warm colours are starting to reappear, and the trend is continuing. What do you think? Their time has come! Yes, here is a warm tone. We’ve seen a lot of grey Bathrooms over the past few years but expect an increase in warmer bathroom shades. This trend is most popular in dressers, floor tiles, and wall tiles. Because some homeowners may be hesitant to add such a warm hue to their home, grey can still be an option to rely on for those looking to step away from classic white. Yes.
Favourite Tile Patterns and Shapes
As technology has seen how manufacturers use basic tiles to create different Bathroom designs, they are now translating existing tiles beyond colour and graphics into something more interesting.
You will see a revival of tiles once loved over the past decades and some new Bathroom interior designs. You can no longer settle for wall subway tiles or oversized tiles. There are many types of tiles. So look for new and improved hexagons, arabesques, diamonds, Moroccan fish scales, or herringbone patterns in new colours and Bathroom textures. This impressive shape not only adorns the floor but also serves as an accent on the bus room backsplash, shower walls, and eventually the ceiling, creating the bold accents we crave.
Wood accents are sleeker than ever
As mentioned in this article, grey is gradually moving away from the home improvement Bathroom interior trend. It brings back warm tones and accents, especially wood. Different shades of wood will complement the white, blue, green, and dark Bathroom interior. Almost everywhere! Wood accents pair perfectly with vintage and industrial trends, so it’s no wonder they’re making a comeback. This exterior adds a classic Bathroom interior, a traditional vibe to a modern bathroom that is otherwise smart and stylish. I saw this unique style too!
The shower is everything!
Freestanding tubs are always the focal point of the bathroom interior, and while they remain there, we anticipate the shower will turn the tub into a focal point. Because the shower is getting bigger, Bathroom interior designers are more likely to have fun and stylish tiles in the shower. If you have the space, consider installing a skylight above your shower. Bringing a natural spotlight to a luxurious space is sure to give your shower a luxurious touch!
Wet room
Changing your Bathroom interior brings expandability and more space. In fact, the goal of having more space is the main reason homeowners choose to remodel. This includes a Bathroom interior too! Compact storage options give you more room to expand your tub and shower. Preparing a wet room for the shower and tub is the best solution to maximise the practicality and convenience of the bathroom interior.
Asymmetrical and premium mirrors
Asymmetrical mirrors are here and better than ever. The mirror’s unique geometric shape is a hot topic, but it’s not the only one. Mirrors are smarter than any other Bathroom interior. The mirror has everything imaginable including anti-fog technology, smart touch capabilities, and a USB charging station. The era of mirror plating is over. Contoured frame options take over so you can be as creative as possible when choosing the right Bathroom interior style. They also do not forget the most important detail of the Bathroom interior mirror – the lighting. Lighting is everything. There’s no point getting ready in a sleek and stylish Bathroom interior if it doesn’t look perfect.! We all love fun shapes and gadget ideas, but functionality is our number one priority. Therefore, modern backlit mirrors and headlights are gaining popularity. A backlit mirror is a more subtle option for optimal lighting. The front lights allow for more creativity but can be dispersed in the form of asymmetrical mirrors. Keep scrolling for photo inspiration!
Heavy back wallpapers on walls
Stunning floral wallpaper for this stylish Bathroom interior.
Some people sting when they hear the word Bathroom interior wallpaper, some rejoice, but certainly, wallpapers evoke emotions. And we’re not talking about grandma’s wallpaper. Large, impressive patterns, murals, and graphics are must-haves for your home because they are so fun and shocking. The new version doesn’t even have a peel & stick, so there’s no glue clean-up, and it’s beginner-forgiving. Are you ready to seize the opportunity to revitalise your neutral home? A Bathroom interior room is a great place to start because you have limited space, no moisture issues, the doors are closed, and you can easily replace them as needed. Next time surprise your guests with a stunning new Bathroom interior with dazzling wallpaper.

Renovated apt. in Brazil originally had lots of walls and small rooms. In the process of the renovation structural elements where left exposed to become an important part of the overall apartment decor.
The home office is created with a custom wood desk that is 8 feet long. It also features Edison bulbs on the end of electrical conduit tubing.
Across from the desk is the music station which features a stand up piano tucked behind a series of indoor plants that screen it from the living room.
Behind the office and music stations is a small intimate seating area that gets flooded with enough sunlight during the day to keep the plant screen on the other side of the piano healthy.
The plant screen includes ivy that is trained across a structural beam where a wall used to separate the living room from a second bedroom.
Behind the office area and next to the original second bedroom is the master bedroom that now includes a large walk in closet and an ensuite.
The bed in the master suite is positioned against the same brick wall as the home office while the ensuite is behind the painted brick wall of the living room.
The bedroom area is kept neutral, allowing the textures and patterns of the brickwork and the original herringbone floor to be a main feature.
The only punch of color in the bedroom area is the brilliant blue of the bedside lamp.
Unlike the neutral palette of the bedroom, the ensuite rocks a vibrant geometric tile pattern on the floor of greens and pinks, which are complimented by the knob towel hooks in the same color scheme.
Every other area boasts a kaleidoscope of color.
Another exposed beam between the living and dining/kitchen areas tells the tale of another wall that has been removed.
The custom shelving was designed with a niche perfectly sized to fit the homeowner’s square table for 8, which seat six unless pulled out into the room.
Next to the shelving unit is a fun corner that has been filled with a variety of items, including sports equipment that has been hung like art.
As with almost every other space, the kitchen is vibrant with rich color and rich with textures.
The guest bathroom is small but has been filled with interesting details from the air plant to the 2 empty frames above the toilet as well as that trough sink and the lacquered green storage cube beneath it.
Original layout - the colored walls were removed.

Project Overview
The Subject Property
Mundelein Master Bath Remodel
For this Mundelein Master Bath, the homeowners requested an update that would take advantage of the large room’s space, opening it up and refreshing the dated fixtures. Regency Home Remodeling’s clever designers were able to do just that, creating a sophisticated, luxurious spa retreat with a few surprises.
The first step was to replace the dated enclosed tub with a stylish Barclay freestanding air tub from Studio 41, surrounded by Daltile’s herringbone pattern wainscoting in 4 x 8 Arctic White tile by Daltile. By changing out the tub, the shower could be relocated and enlarged, the walls lined with Daltile’s 12 x 24 Uniform Concrete Dark Grey tile. To coordinate, a new vanity and linen tower were installed in Regency’s gray shaker style, all topped by Daltile’s OQ23 Equinox quartz, also applied to the shower threshold, bench, and niche trim. Studio 41 provided on-trend Kohler vessel sinks and modern lighted medicine cabinets, as well as the Kalia plumbing fixtures and faucets, and the whole room is pulled together by the stunning floor, Daltile’s 12 x 224 Marble Attache tile in Lavish Pearl Arabesque.
Perhaps the most stunning design element was a frosted glass pocket door leading to a charming new windowed alcove housing an additional storage cabinet. Studio 41’s WarmUp heated floor mats and thermostat provide the final touch of luxury, a hallmark of Regency Home Remodeling. Let Regency handle your project for the perfect room, brought in on time and within your budget. Give them a call and get started on your dream home.

QUARTZITE NATURAL STONE

NATURAL QUARTZITE
From many centuries, marble and other types of natural stone have symbolized wealth and power when used for flooring and other surfaces in residential dwellings. In the ancient civilizations of Persia, Greece, and Italy, the hand labor involved in quarrying, cutting, and transporting natural stone meant that it was only the wealthiest citizens or the government itself who could afford to use these materials in their buildings. Although modern equipment and transportation systems now make it more accessible to more people, marble and other natural stone is still a building material that retains a royal Stone.
THICKNESS
Many people ask about the thicknesses of the travertine tiles. It may be because they are trying to minimize the impact the new floor is going to have on doors and counters. Sometimes its because they want to make sure its to use on the walls. Other times it’s just because they want the thinnest possible for handling purposes. Here are some nuggets that might help as far as Stone norms are concerned.
SIZES AVAILABLE WITH US
• 12″x12″ and smaller are usually going to be 3/8″ thick. A tile that is 3/8″ thick is going to weigh about 5.5 lbs per square foot. • 16″x16″ and 18″x18″ are usually going to be 1/2″ thick. A tile that is 1/2″ thick is going to weight about 6 lbs per square foot. • 24″x24″ tiles are usually going to be 5/8″ thick. A tile that is 5/8″ thick is going to weight about 8 lbs per square foot. • Keep in mind that custom thicknesses for each size are possible and slabs can be done in 1.5 cm and 2 cm thicknesses.
CREATING THE PERFECT NURSERY FOR TWINS
Residential trends come and go. It was not that long ago when condominium developers in large metro areas came up with the idea of designing floor plans without functional kitchens. The idea was that the advent of smartphone apps and food delivery services would prompt city dwellers to forgo cooking altogether. However, things turned out differently as homeowners these days are making design statements with gourmet kitchens that boost the overall value of their properties.
When it comes to flooring material for the kitchen, natural-stone tiles are the obvious choice. Cork, wood, and vinyl flooring have certain advantages, but they do not come close to matching the attractive look and sheer durability of natural stone. Here are some of the best options for natural-stone floors in the kitchen.
GRANITE
Granite is the best popular choice of stone in the use of domestic and commercial purposes. Granite is stain resistant and durable stone, it’s wide and colors make the most beautiful stone for a lifetime. Granites are usually found in makrana mountain ranges. Bhandari Marbles is a top leading granite company in India to produce quality and strongest granites. Our best granite is famous for the combination of beauty.
Granite is a great option for homeowners who have previously chosen granite slabs for their kitchen counters. Ideally, the floor tiles should be selected at the same time as the slabs for the counters for matching purposes. The granite looks great, and it also lasts for a very long time as long as it is properly maintained. Luckily for homeowners, cleaning and resealing granite can be accomplished by using a stone-safe granite cleaner and sealer. The granite looks best in gourmet kitchens.
LIMESTONE SLABS & TILES – Black Kota Lime Stone Exporter
Exporter of LIMESTONE SLABS & TILES – Black Kota LimeStone, Machine Cut Black Limestone, Black Kadappa. This material is ideal for kitchens with a rustic or traditional style. Limestone that has been extracted from quarries in the Middle East and Northern Africa tends to have a very attractive and unique look. As limestone is very porous, it is important to choose tiles with higher density, and the protective seal must be reapplied often.
MARBLE
Marble may seem like an unusual choice for the kitchen, but it should be noted that it is the metamorphic result of limestone being exposed to higher igneous temperatures, which causes a process of crystallization. Marble is very durable and will look great in any kitchen. However, it requires a professional finish to make the surface less slippery.
SLATE
Homeowners who favor a rustic or industrial look for their kitchen should consider slate flooring, particularly darker tones that are not prone to staining. The typical finish of slate makes it look natural with only a slight polish that highlights the nonslip texture. Slate tends to look very sharp when paired with kitchen cabinets that feature a light and natural wood finish.
TRAVERTINE
Many regions of India choose travertine for their kitchen and dining room floors for three reasons: it looks great, lasts long, and can be easily maintained as long as it has been adequately honed, filled, and sealed. When chosen for the kitchen floor, travertine should be finished with a natural look instead of a glossy appearance. Travertine is ideal for open floor plans decorated with natural stone. A stone slab is a big stone, flat and of little thickness, that are generally used for paving floors, for covering walls or as headstones.

Having some form of greenery indoors is another common thread that ties millennial homes together, and it has everything to do with the near-effortless, natural feel that plants bring to any interior.
A pot of succulents for your home work perfectly as well. Plus, they don’t demand much attention either; water them once a week and you’ll have a beautiful subject for all those Instagram moments.
5. DIY elements
Credit: Herman Yap
DIY projects are getting popular in millennial homes: just take a look on Pinterest, or check out our story on how one lecturer styled his 3-room flat with self-made dividers, murals and Japanese paper screen doors.
6. Hexagonal Tiles
Interior firm: IN-EXPAT
Looks familiar? Hexagonal tiles have been around since the retro days, and they are now making a huge comeback in today’s homes. And while these tiles may seem basic by millennial standards, they are anything but that.
Belying their simple six-sided form, modern-day hexagonal tiles can be embossed with a wide variety of patterns and colours (e.g. stone, marble) and are frequently used to spice up bathroom flooring and kitchen backsplashes alike.
7. Unique hardware and fittings
Interior firm: Aart Boxx Interior
Regular handles, knobs and just about any piece of hardware are no longer an option. Instead, replace with them with sleeker, fancier options, like leather pulls and matte-black taps, that’ll capture the attention of all who enter your bathroom/kitchen/bedroom.
8. Spherical lamps
Interior firm: erstudio
Spherical lamps are a must-have in any Gen Y-ers’ home in need of elegant lighting solutions that look great anywhere, whether displayed alone or against a calming neutral backdrop.
Style tip: Juxtapose these lamps against clean lines (like those of a rectangular headboard) to create an eye-catching contrast between different forms.
9. Herringbone
Interior Firm: Happe Design Atelier
A huge part of herringbone’s appeal lies in its simplicity: Any rectangular form , can be laid together to create a low-key fancy look for everything from walls to flooring.
Want to get in on this trend fast? Either check out local furniture store Commune’s Bruno collection online or drop by their showrooms IRL.
10. Thoughtful storage and furniture
Interior firm: Neu Konceptz
We all love a space that looks as good as it functions, who wants a storage feature that isn’t designed without intent? Think oversized wardrobes that are too tall for their users or drawers that are too small to fit anything.
Get a bookshelf that doubles as a display table, build recessed racks, or create a dedicated nook for personal belongings. But whatever your idea of a useful storage solution is, you do you. After all, it’s your home that we’re talking about here.

Whether it’s building a new wall to create separate rooms (5%) or knocking a wall down to create a bigger space (6%), wall-related jobs are amongst the most popular jobs that we’re expecting to see posted on Rated People in 2021. Plus, our research found that removing or building a wall could bring lots of monetary value to homeowners. Knocking down a wall could add £8,999 to a home’s value, whilst building a wall could add £8,123.
Our research also found that homeowners are planning to hire do more unique jobs this year:
7% are planning to create a home office.
6% planning to create a home gym.

Carpenters and joiners
10% of homeowners are interested in carpentry jobs such as crafting built-in cupboards, shelves and wardrobes this year. Plus, 11% of them want to build extra storage into their homes.
Aside from the functional benefits of having extra storage, building bespoke storage can bring homeowners monetary value too. We found that prospective homeowners will pay £7,409 more for a home with bespoke storage.
We’ve found a trend in ‘cloffices’ (closet-offices), with Google searches for cloffices growing by 150% from 2019 to 2020. So, you might find homeowners looking for carpenters to build slimline, wall mounted desks, cupboards and more.
A new shed is the 3rd most popular garden improvement this year, too. We’ve seen a 71% increase in the amount of garden shed/playhouse jobs posted on our platform. Other garden jobs, such as new decking (planned by 10% of homeowners this year) could see you working outside more in 2021.
Cleaners
It’s no surprise that cleanliness is a top priority for homeowners this year, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It’s particularly important for homeowners that are looking to sell their property this year – 61% of UK residents would put a lower offer in if a property wasn’t clean during a viewing, whilst 43% wouldn’t even view an unclean property!
You can let homeowners know that they could lose thousands of pounds if their home isn’t clean during the selling process:

-£8,882 for a dirty kitchen
-£8,849 for dirty/stained furnishings such as carpets, curtains and sofas
-£8,722 for a dirty interior that hasn’t been cleaned
With various incentives for buying and selling homes this year, you could see a boom in end-of-tenancy and domestic cleaning jobs. Plus, with the potential of offices reopening as lockdown eases, demand for office and commercial deep cleaning could also increase.
Driveway pavers
Even more homeowners are planning to get a new driveway in 2021 (8%) compared to 2020 (6%). Plus, we found that a new driveway is highly valued amongst UK homebuyers. They told us they’d pay £8,012 more for a home with one!

47% of homeowners are planning to transform their gardens this year, from big jobs like building a garden office to smaller jobs like planting flowers, shrubs and trees.
An overgrown garden could see homeowners lose £8,817 off their home’s value, whilst others could add thousands of pounds to a home’s value. So we could see homebuyers and sellers post lots of the money-making jobs listed in the graph below on Rated People.
Gas and heating engineers

We also predict that home office improvements will be one of the biggest trends for 2021. 38% of UK residents want to improve their home working environment this year. So, demand for those little jobs around the home, such as putting together flat-pack furniture and hanging shelves are likely to increase.
