5 beer ingredients that are banned in the United States
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When River North Brewery founder Matt Hess first discovered amburana wood, he immediately wanted to use it in a recipe. The wood, which comes from trees native to South America, offers a distinct profile with spicy notes of cinnamon. Hess thought it would aptly complement one of the brewery’s signature high-alcohol beers. After receiving some amburana samples, Hess’ team made an imperial saison aged on amburana wood spirals. It turned out well enough that River North decided to enter the beer into the 2023 Great American Beer Festival competition. However, the Brewers Association, which organizes the event, derailed those plans. Beers made with amburana aren’t eligible for the competition, the trade group said, because the wood is considered a banned ingredient per the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, which sets formula- and label-approval guidelines for breweries. Hess was surprised, especially considering recipes featuring amburana had won awards in the past. In 2018, for example, a Kentucky brewery won GABF gold for a blended stout that had, in part, been aged in amburana barrels. Closer to home, Denver Beer Co. won multiple GABF awards for amburana-aged beers in 2020. Hess isn’t sure when the BA started blocking amburana beers from competition, but he knows why. “That wood has been banned because it contains trace amounts of coumarin,” Hess said. Coumarin is a flavor compound that naturally occurs in some plants, but studies have shown that high amounts of coumarin can be toxic to certain animals. Indeed, the Food and Drug Administration, the country’s foremost authority on food safety, banned coumarin in consumable food products many decades ago. The TTB defers to the FDA when determining if a brewery’s product is legal to sell should it include novel ingredients. The BA follows those guidelines to determine if a beer is eligible for its competitions. “In the case of amburana wood, TTB has told us that FDA unequivocally communicated to them that amburana wood used to age beer… is not GRAS (generally recognized as safe),” Marc Sorini, general counsel at the Brewers Association, told The Denver Post. Here are five ingredients you might be surprised are banned as food additives, including in beer. It’s worth noting that Indigenous and Asian cultures historically used several of these plants for their medicinal properties. Amburana wood Amburana wood comes from trees native to South America. It contains coumarin, a compound shown to have toxic properties in pharmaceutical studies. The FDA banned coumarin in food in 1954. Drinkers may see amburana wood, commonly called Brazilian oak, used in spirits like whiskey and cachaça. It’s unclear why the wood is permitted for use in liquor but not beer. Still, that hasn’t stopped many brewers from trying it out. Cannabis Cannabis-infused beverages are widely available in the U.S. and many breweries make them, though not in Colorado. So how is it that cannabis ended up on this list? In short, a convoluted network of conflicting regulations at both the state and federal levels. Arvada-based Ceria Brewing Co. was a pioneer in the marijuana-infused beverage space when it released its first THC beer, Grainwave Belgian-style white ale, in 2018. But as of early 2023, those beers are no longer available in the company’s home state. (Tiney Ricciardi, The Denver Post) Cannabis plants contain many compounds called cannabinoids, some of which are psychoactive like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and others that aren’t, such as cannabidiol (CBD). Both hemp and marijuana are cannabis plants, distinguished only by their THC content. Marijuana, a federally scheduled drug, is high in THC; hemp is low in THC and was legalized nationwide in 2018. As a rule of thumb, alcohol and THC are not allowed to commingle in a single beverage. THC-infused beers exist in states where marijuana is legal, but they are regulated like edibles. In Colorado, those beers may not contain alcohol and they are prohibited from being served at bars. Non-alcoholic seltzers infused with CBD and THC from hemp have become popular in states where marijuana remains illegal. Because many seltzers do not meet the TTB’s definition of a malt beverage or fermented beverage, they often fall out of the agency’s purview, Sorini at the Brewers Association said. Tonka beans Like amburana wood, tonka beans contain coumarin. The FDA banned the use of coumarin, tonka beans and tonka extract in food in 1954 after “pharmacological investigations showing that it has toxic properties,” the federal register states. Tonka beans have a flavor profile — including notes of vanilla, clove and almonds — that chefs and brewers love, but to try a beer made with them, you’ll have to go to Canada or Europe. Safrole (sassafras) Despite its historic use as a root beer flavoring agent, oil derived from the root of the sassafras tree, called safrole, was banned in 1960. The FDA cited long-term pharmaceutical studies that found the compound caused liver cancer in its decision. Sweet flag (calamus) plant Sweet flag is a grass-like plant that grows near swamps and rivers. In 1968, the FDA banned it because studies found cancer-causing chemicals in some varieties. The agency banned the use of all calamus in food until studies prove specific varieties are not harmful. Seattle brewery Cloudburst Brewing indoctrinates a new generation of imbibers with a line of "Fuck AB-Inbev" newborn and toddler apparel.
Located just minutes from the Pike Place Market lies the city’s only “James Beard” Award nominated brewery, Cloudburst Brewing. Known mostly for their award-winning IPAs, the brewery’s approach remains focussed on releasing unfiltered ales and lagers. Accompanying their beers, seemingly in lock-step with their approach to beer clarity, the brewery’s beer names are so random you’d think AI generated them. One only has to look at their Instagram to review the many names thought up by founding brewer and owner Steve Luke. Quick to jump in, a smiling Luke would opine they don’t take themselves seriously. Today, the brewery is pleased to announce a new line of newborn and toddler apparel. Moniker'd with the phrase “FUCK AB-INBEV”, supporters of Cloudburst now have a way to share their support for mothers of fathers who drink beer. When reached for comment, owner Steve Luke recognizes the clout of large breweries, like A-B/Inbev, towards up-and-coming imbibers. Which is why they are taking the grass-roots approach towards corporate beer. "We know that the ability to hate is so much more nurture than  nature, so we figured - get that anti big beer mentality at them as young as possible!"  It’s all part of a philosophy that is the antithesis of breweries, like Anheuser-Busch’s corporate approach to producing beer. For those not in the know, the shirt he (Luke) wore in 2018 at the Great American Beer Festival awards in Denver (Colorado) inspired this new line of clothing. Back then, the shirt was a very public statement on his reaction to Anheuser-Busch purchasing his former employer, Elysian Brewing Company, and other indie breweries.  Which makes this announcement on brand with how Steve and the rest of the Cloudburst Brewing crew have carried themselves.  Releasing April 1st and available in multiple sizes, parents can purchase onesies in pink or blue. Or for toddlers, you can purchase a t-shirt, also in pink or blue. Those interested can reach out to the brewery via their social media (@cloudburstbrew) or their website.  from Northwest Beer Guide - News - The Northwest Beer Guide https://bit.ly/3xsIDBd

KORPIKLAANI | announce UK tour dates with Burning Witches + release video for new track Jägermeister
Tumblr media
Finnish folk metal heroes KORPIKLAANI who are currently preparing for two Russian shows with Trollfest later this month, are pleased to announce that they will be returning to UK shores in March 2020 for a string of eight headline shows, as part of their ongoing Land Of A Thousand Drinks world tour! The final performance is set to take place at Hammerfest UK. Support on the tour will come from Nuclear Blast label mates Burning Witches.
In celebration of this news, KORPIKLAANI have today released a killer video for their new track Jägermeister, shot at their recent New York show. The video was directed by Vicente Cordero, with production by Industrialism        Films. Jägermeister will be available to purchase as a digital single on 13th December.           You can view the video for Jägermeister here: https://youtu.be/5fH0hHZkCJ8           Tickets for KORPIKLAANI's UK tour are set to go on sale Friday 13th December. Stay tuned for news next week.           Front-man Jonne commented: "As our recent North American tour began, we were discussing making a new    video and Jyrki (The 69 Eyes) recommended Vicente and he was a perfect        fit. At the time we did not even know what song to use and then we remembered we never released Jägermeister as this was recorded during the Manala sessions. We contacted Vicente and found out that he had free time the day we had our last show in New York. He flew out to NY, met us at the PlayStation Theater and then filmed around Times Square, backstage and during the show. Now it is time for your favourite medicine, perfect to warm up the cold          winter days and get you in that party mood! Oktoberfest 2019 Munich: Arnold Schwarzenegger conducts in the Marstall
A third clip shows, for example, Don Cheadle, not Schwarzenegger, who is waiting with a llama in front of an elevator. We don't get to see any more here, but we are sure that together it will create a great story that will ultimately lead to the type of beer. Or the events are so abstruse that a beer is necessary for a better understanding. Because the search for the pathogen has so far been unsuccessful, many fear the spread of a new disease. Unfortunately, the festival visitors will soon have to do without their star conductor again. The Terminator will be returning home on Tuesday. and Jackie Chan opened the burger chain "Planet Hollywood" in New York in 1991. "Nobody really wants to fight there" How does an average person feel in the madness of war? Oscar winner Sam Mendes shows in his world war film "1917" the rhythm of the battle and the feeling of powerlessness. Not only the good intentions are to blame, but also the Japanese Marie Kondo and her Netflix series. It teaches us how to fold blouses - and that too much possession weighs on the soul.
Individual Evidence [edit
In 2018, there were more attacks on police officers at the Oktoberfest. The moderators Carolin Reiber and Kai Pflaume enjoyed the beer. If you want to read the paid articles again, you can log in again at any time with your user name and password. The first point for us was to use the building blocks of the proteins and not the large molecules. total stranger Protein powder is very viscous, especially when you use it mixes, then it becomes milky. Someone here who saw the movie wrote that it wasn't said in the movie. So that a cock can not be excluded. Arnie reappears as the T-800, which, however, now lived among people for many years and adapted accordingly during this time. RTL Bachelorette Gerda Lewis also carried the label, in the earlier version of Meyer-Woelden's Lilly Becker and Barbara Meier. The Munich Oktoberfest means a state of emergency. In the mind too. An Italian was now stopped with 1.3 per thousand on the A8. Should I wear sandals barefoot? my new girlfriend advised me to buy trekking sandals because she thinks they are very comfortable summer shoes that can be combined well with a casual, sporty outfit. could I wear them with socks too? I would be embarrassed if everyone could see my big feet. Arnold Schwarzenegger, an Austrian-American actor and American politician, begins his career as a bodybuilder.

The Great American Beer Festival kicked off last night for the 37th year. Along with the usual suspects of beer-themed costumes, a bagpipe procession and general drunken debauchery — the annual event had something new up its sleeve. Over 100,000 square feet of space, along with a new footprint, made its debut. Some say this is why the highly popular festival didn’t sell out at the record-breaking pace it’s used to and that ticket quotas must have been raised. That makes sense since for a Thursday session it felt packed even with the added space. With even higher attendance expected for the weekend sessions, we’re here to help you make a game plan so you don’t miss out.
Get Your Bearings
The festival has a new layout this year. Instead of breaking it down by regions, the breweries are listed alphabetically. But there’s a catch — it’s not just A to Z, front to back. It’s broken into two sections with the “Meet The Brewer” side having its own alphabetized order. That section is located towards the left side of the convention center when you enter from the ticket holders entrance. We understand why the festival changed the layout from being organized by region — but we have to say it was still hard to find the desired brewery and we did miss wandering around different regions to see what area delights we could find. So more than ever, you should download the app and have the layout ready. Pro tip: when telling people where to meet you, skip the letter and just tell them the section number. Since there aren’t duplicates section nunbers, it’s way easier to find and you’ll avoid the confusion by telling someone to meet you in “B” and then later realizing there are two different B sections (one in Meet the Brewer and one in the general area). So, key takeaway — study the map and get your bearings before diving in.
Where to Head First
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Once you know the lay of the land — you’ll need to prioritize on what breweries to hit up first. We have a more fleshed out list of “beers to hunt down” but after last night we have a few additions as well as some reminders. First — head to Weldwerks. The Greeley born brewery has amassed a big fandom since the last GABF and is going to draw crowds. They have brought a huge lineup to represent its 100 beers it brewed in the last year (yes, 100) but even still beers like the Peanut Butter Cup Medianoche is going to go fast. So make a B-Line to that brewery from the entrance. It’s fairly close to where you’ll come in, so if you’re quick you may not have to wait in a huge line. There are a few more breweries that had huge lines and kicked kegs you’ll need to check out next including Great Notion, More and New Glarus. More, in particular, kicked almost all of its kegs halfway through the fest, so if they are on your list you may want to make them stop number 2. We recommend getting the Henna: Swirl, “a chocolate and vanilla imperial stout that tastes like old fashion vanilla ice cream soaked in decadent chocolate syrup.”
If you’re lucky smart enough to have purchased a ticket to Paired (seriously, it’s worth it), there are some major standouts to not miss. First stop, grab a grilled oyster and a spicy “seafood pan roast” from Sam Talbot and then head straight to Mercantile’s booth where, if you’re lucky, you might meet the James Beard award-winning chef himself — Alex Seidel. Dishing out a simple but insanely delicious chicken sausage slider — Seidel lives up to the hype. Then, even if you’re not ready for dessert you must head straight to Arcana‘s spot (located diagonally to Mercantile’s booth in the far right-hand corner). This was hands down the best pairing of the night, and maybe the best beer and food pairing I’ve ever had (yes, it’s that good — but you have to do it right). The bite consists of a slightly savory and spicy meringue made with guajillo chiles, topped with a squash puree, fried dulse (kind of like seaweed) and sesame seeds. It’s good on its own, but if you pop one into your mouth and take a sip of Rahr & Son’s Drunken Santa (a spiced English ale aged in Bourbon barrels), the beer will dissolve the meringue and elevate all the flavors. The result is a spicy treat that hits all the right fall flavors.
Special Spots
New Holland’s Speakeasy.
Once you’ve knocked out all your must do’s, there are a few areas worth exploring. First, we stumbled upon a secret “speakeasy” over at New Holland. Attached to its normal pouring station, the Michigan brewery erected a faux brick pub where they are pouring special variations of its famous Dragon’s Milk. They only let groups of four in at a time, so you’ll have to stand in line — but if you love a good stout (including an intense double rum coconut edition), you won’t want to miss it. After you finish up the speakeasy, check out Ology Brewing out of Tallahassee. The line won’t be long, and there’s nothing fancy about the booth but it’s definitely a breakout brewery worth trying (shoutout to our friends at PorchDrinking.com for the recommendation). Give the Juice Lab a try and you’ll see what we mean. To finish out the night, don’t forget to stop by the newest activation — Jameson’s Caskmates Barrel Aged Beer Garden. The huge new spot is featuring only (you guessed it) barrel aged beers meaning the ABV is going to be higher. So if you’re still feeling like you can put down a few — head there to wrap up.
With one day under its belt, GABF is already turning out to be another satisfying year. It may take you a few extra minutes to decipher the new layout, but we welcome the effort. Competition is rising (we’re looking at you, Shelton Brothers), and it’s important that GABF tries to innovate in order to stay on top. We hope to see more of this from the annual event in the coming years and encourage them to continue to think big.
All photography by Brittany Werges, unless otherwise noted.
Your Game Plan For GABF This Weekend The Great American Beer Festival kicked off last night for the 37th year. Along with the usual suspects of beer-themed costumes, a bagpipe procession and general drunken debauchery — the annual event had something new up its sleeve.

6 Essential Tips for Scoring Great American Beer Festival Tickets
6 Essential Tips for Scoring Great American Beer Festival Tickets
To many beer-lovers, the Great American Beer Festival is the end-all, be-all of beer festivals. It is the epitome of what a beer festival should be and beer nirvana all rolled into one massive event. It is also a very difficult ticket to purchase and, once a ticket is procured, an even more difficult event to navigate.
With just  two months until the 2018 festival, this year’s event takes place…

Moving To Eugene Oregon
For some time, it seemed the United States and the United Kingdom would go to war for a third time in 75 years (see Oregon boundary dispute ), but the border was defined peacefully in 1846 by the Oregon Treaty The border between the United States and British North America was set at the 49th parallel The Oregon Territory was officially organized in 1848.
Eugene, city, seat (1853) of Lane county, western Oregon, U.S., on the Willamette River, adjoining Springfield to the east. The area around what became Eugene was inhabited for several centuries by Kalapuya Indians. Settled by Eugene Skinner in 1846, the city was laid out on Willamette bottomland in 1852. The town site was relocated and named Eugene City in 1853. The arrival of the Oregon and California (now Southern Pacific) Railroad in 1871 stimulated Eugene’s growth as an agricultural and lumber center. The University of Oregon was founded there in 1872, followed by Northwest Christian College in 1895 and Lane Community College in 1965.
The earliest history of Native people in the Eugene-Springfield area is that of the Kalapuya tribes from the area, Chifin, Winefelly,  Pee-u (Mohawk), and Chelamela tribes. These people signed a treaty with the United States in 1855, and were removed to temporary reservations in the Willamette valley. The Yoncalla, in the Umpqua valley, and in the Calapooia Mountains just south of Cottage Grove were removed to the Umpqua reservation after they signed the Kalapuya and Umpqua treaty in 1854. The tribes in the Eugene area of the Willamette Valley were taken to Spores farm to live for a year until they removed to the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation in 1856. Some of the Yoncalla, members of the Halo family, chose to remain living around Yoncalla, and Cottage Grove, Oregon.
Eugene recently ranked in the Top 10 on the Livability.com 100 Best Places to Live list, ranked on the Best Places for Business and Careers -Forbes and we ranked 10th on the 2013 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report™ just to name a few…
Moving to Eugene, Oregon has its pros and cons. Led by the college towns of Corvallis and Eugene, Oregon had three of the top 50 places to live in Livability's 2018 Top 100 Best Places to Live Corvallis , home of Oregon State University, was ranked third; Eugene , home of the University of Oregon, was 28th;and Ashland , in the southern part of the state was 49th.
However, it is not big of a problem since Eugene also has a good amount of big employers such as University of Oregon, PeaceHealth Medical Group, Lane County, Eugene School District 4J, Springfield Public School, City of Eugene, and Monaco Coach Corporation, which employ a thousand of people and more.
Eugene's jogging trails include Pre's Trail in Alton Baker Park, Rexius Trail , the Adidas Oregon Trail , and the Ridgeline Trail Jogging was introduced to the U.S. through Eugene, brought from New Zealand by Bill Bowerman, who wrote the best-selling book "Jogging", and coached the champion University of Oregon track and cross country teams.
A team of City of Eugene Parks and Open Space and Eugene Police employees worked together to create a more welcoming experience for the myriad local, national and international visitors who spend time in our city's 700-acre riverfront park system each year.
According to the Department of Numbers, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the unemployment rate for Eugene rose 0.1 percentage points in September 2017 to 4.8%. 6,958 people were determined to be unemployed in May 2017, but as of today, the number of unemployed has now grown by 1,861.
The city hosts a multitude of cultural events and festivals, such as the annual Eugene Celebration, a three-day block party held downtown; the KLCC Microbrew Festival, an event commerating the Pacific Northwest cultural staple of craft beer; and the Oregon Festival of American Music, held annually every summer.
Eugene is home to some of our regions best breweries, while downtown Eugene hubs are infused with bottleshops, taphouses and growler fill stations. Well-known breweries include Ninkasi, Rogue and McMenamins.    Eugene’s slogan is “A Great City for the Arts and Outdoors”. It is also referred to as the “Emerald City”, and as “Track Town, USA”.
Many people have migrated to Eugene Oregon in the last decade particularly the young hipster crowd. With its foodie vibe and young seen many Long Distance Moving Companies are seeing large increases in interest in the area.

Showing growth across several categories, the Brewers Association releases it's 2019 Growth Report
Press Release
Tumblr media

Boulder, Colo. … The Brewers Association (BA)—the trade association representing small and independent1  American craft brewers—today released annual growth figures for the U.S. craft brewing industry.2 In 2019, small and independent brewers collectively produced 26.3 million barrels of beer and realized just under 4% total growth3, increasing craft’s overall beer market share by volume to 13.6%.
Retail dollar value was estimated at $29.3 billion, representing 25.2% market share and 6% growth over 2018. Growth for small and independent brewers occurred in an overall down beer market, which dropped 2% by volume in 2019. Craft brewers provided more than 160,000 direct jobs, an increase of 7% over 2018.
“Small and independent brewers continued to serve as job creators, strong economic contributors, and community beacons in 2019, while craft maintained a fairly stable growth rate in 2019 and continued to gain share in the beer market,” said Bart Watson, chief economist, Brewers Association.
There were 8,275 craft breweries operating in 2019, including 2,058 microbreweries, 3,011 brewpubs, 2,966 taproom breweries, and 240 regional craft breweries. Throughout the year, there were 942 new brewery openings and 294 closings.
“Although craft brewers entered 2020 on a solid foundation, the beer landscape is dramatically different today than it was just a few months ago. Breweries will be facing new realities due to the pandemic with extended closures, tight cash flow, societal shifts, and other economic variables in play. These 2019 figures will allow us to see how much COVID-19 affects small brewer production and jobs,” added Watson.
Note: Numbers are preliminary. For additional insights from Bart Watson, visit Insights & Analysis on the Brewers Association website. The full 2019 industry analysis will be published in the May/June 2020 issue of The New Brewer, highlighting regional trends and production by individual breweries.
1An American craft brewer is a small and independent brewer. Small: Annual production of 6 million barrels of beer or less (approximately 3% of U.S. annual sales). Beer production is attributed to the rules of alternating proprietorships. Independent: Less than 25% of the craft brewery is owned or controlled (or equivalent economic interest) by an alcoholic beverage industry member that is not itself a craft brewer. Brewer: Has a TTB Brewer’s Notice and makes beer.
2 Absolute figures reflect the dynamic craft brewer data set as specified by the craft brewer definition. Growth numbers are presented on a comparable base. See full methodology.
3 Volume by craft brewers represent total taxable production.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This last weekend (+Thurday and Friday) was Comic Con Portugal, and I have things to share!!! This was the first time in Lisbon (better said, Oeiras, as they kept repeating because the “mayor” wanted some points), which to me worked much better because I do not have to spend money in hotels or long distance trains... The space was huge and outside, so it was very good they changed it to September :) But in terms of the organization, they really need to decide better who they put interviewing people, there was one guy that was just really bad, and I know Joe Reitman can’t do them all (but his with Dolph Lundgren was so great - he was just so happy and excited), but can’t you bring in Mário Augusto to do some of them (not just the Disney panels).
First of all to the Americans, there will be this short movie making some festivals in the US, called Sleepwalk by Filipe Melo, and I want to tell you if you have the chance, check it out!! It’s a beautiful story inspired by a comic I read either last week of 2017 or first one of 2018, I had gotten it for my Dad as a Christmas present; I’m not sure if the comic has been translated, but the movie is fully in English and the story is very related to America.
Continuing on what I got to watch, I watch The Passage!!! Probably my favorite thing of the all Comic Con, I’ve been hearing about it since the episode “Red Queen” of The 100, and then all the press Henry Ian Cusick has been doing for it - I was very curious and I was blown away... The show did not look like something I would like, I just wanted to look at Ian (and I must say seeing him in a big screen is pretty awesome), and his performance was great, but then the story is really interesting and they leave open so many questions in the pilot, that I’m intrigued. But the best thing was the girl’s performance, Saniyya Sidney was adorable and so funny in all the interviews I had seen, but she was great in the show - she was fun and sweet, she could also really hold herself in moments of emotional pain... Really looking forward to January and the rest of season 1 (and still hoping that this show does not mean the dead of Marcus Kane, because it’s not good enough to forgive that).
Also watched the pilot of Outpost and Siren, which I know has been out in the US, they were okay, but did not intrigued me to continue watching. Also watched the movie The House with a Clock in Its Walls and it was not great - the story was not that good... and the acting from the kid was not excellent, and Jack Black was not a funny character... so I would only advise if you’re in love with Cate Blanchett - she was very good!!
This part is over and I want to talk a bit about the panels. Dan Folger (Jacob from Fantastic Beast) is one of the funniest people ever, he just couldn’t stand still and he would get up and yell at nothing, and tell jokes - he has a podcast and he’s going to put both panels he did in there, so check it out :) It probably won’t be as funny as with the visual, but still pretty good.
Then my favorite Dichen Lachman (Anya from The 100 and in the picture above), she was so sweet and nice, and I was really close to the front, so I could really see her!! And I really love the way she talks about Anya, it seems to be a character she really enjoyed playing, and she really wished that there could have been more, she feels that it’s a character with a lot of unfinished business and she would like a “Grounders” prequel. She also talked a lot about Reileen from Altered Carbon, so I’m starting the show now!!
Nicholas Hoult (the Beast from X-Men), he was so sweet!! He hugged a girl and she hadn’t asked, she was just wearing one of those free hugs signs and he just offered and it was the best thing - the girl was just so shocked!! And he talked about Skins a lot, because that show was huge here!! And I think he said one of his favorite scenes to film was when they stole Chris’ body and drove across the town - they did not close the streets, so they saw funny reactions to driving with a coffin through the streets
Then Dolph Lundgren (Ivan Drago from Rocky IV), he was just so awesome!! His stories about Rocky were just so excellent!! And him sharing stories about his own life was just so good - did you know he has a degree in chemical engineering? I’m super excited for Creed 2!!
Finally, Elyes Gabel (Rakharo from Game of Thrones), but sadly there was only one Game of Thrones related question, everything else was Scorpion talk, which I know nothing about...
These were the actor panels, which I feel that are the ones that people would want to talk about. If you have any questions about one of them or want more details, send me an ask!!
I also cosplayed this year, only in the weekend (the other two days just used fandom shirts - The 100 and Star Wars), I went with Drusilla Blackthorn from The Shadowhunter Chronicles, specifically from The Dark Artifices - she’s my favorite character of that particular series, and overall in the entire Shadowhunter world, she’s the one I most identify with, the way she talks about her body rings so true and it’s not something I normally see in media, especially fantasy. And then on Sunday, Clarisse La Rue from Percy Jackson and she’s my favorite - I LOVE HER!!! And these two girls, dressed in Hogwarts uniforms, actually asked to take a photo with me!!!
And to end this very long post, here are some of the things I bought!!! First the tote bags (Indiana Jones and Star Wars) were free, being given out by the channel “Hollywood” during their awesome concert of movie music (also a Mission Impossible tote bag, but I gave that one to my dad)
Saga (Volume 8) by Brian K Vaughan and Fiona Staples, it finally came out here!!! I’m so excited to read it!!!
I actually got some fanart this year, this “Leia and Han” one is so beautiful and I regretted not buying it last year :) And it’s by an artist going by Little Black Spot - they have a website, www.littleblackspot.com!!!
Then these two beautiful stickers - Leia and Poison Ivy - by Inês Barros (inesbarrosillustration in instagram). If you follow me, you’re probably a asoiaf fan, and if you like Sansa Stark and/or Daenerys Targaryen, check her out, because she has these beautiful prints of them!! (I really wished she had some of Arya - I found no prints of Arya at Comic Con...)
Two Daredevil comics and they were 6 euros each!!! 6 euros, guys!!! 12 total!!! That’s was so cheap.... they are in Brazilian, which I do not love, because it’s confusing at time, but I’ll take it for the price. Also they have Elektra and Medusa!!!
Three mugs - they are not all for me... I saw the Battlestar Galactica and I had to get it for my brother (BSG has so little merch...), and then they had a deal of three for 20 euros (one is 8 euros) and I was taken... The Winterfell one is obviously for me - it’s so beautiful!!!, and the Batman and Superman one is for my dad
Then I wanted some Lost merch, because I’ve just been deep into the show lately. There wasn’t much, actually two POPs - cheaper than usual - Kate and Jacob, but I only get POPs for characters I really love, and while I have a few favorites in Lost, the only one I would consider buying is if they ever make a Penny one, because I LOVE her so much!!! But I got this Dharma pin with all the stations!! It was between this one and a Dharma beer pin...
And then a Martell pin, because I lost the one I got last year... and my Stark one was feeling alone. I need everyone to know where my allegiances lie :)
Also got a lot of Japanese food for my brother, but by now he has eaten everything!! (And one of the drinks, he didn't even remember to let me take a sip...)
This post is actually done now, to conclude this it was an AMAZING for days, and my favorite was definitely Friday!!! Not too many people, or too little, Saga came out, I watched The Passage and I had the panels with Dan Folger, Nicholas Hoult and Dichen Lachman!!!
