Cora's plan
Office:
-Robert, you can't just say that you don't agree
-Yes, I can and I say it; I don't agree!
Cora and Mary look at each other trying to stay calm and listen to one of the men in the room trying to reach an agreement:
-It's simple, if the majority partners do not agree, nothing can be done and we will continue with this.
Cora takes the floor by staring at Robert on the other side of the table:
-Is there no way that 75% is divided and thus a result is obtained from this?
-No mom, on other occasions if you have not agreed it does not take place and the same when dad has said no.
-Robert please, understand that the only way to reach the US market is by doing all this.
It gets up and shows the data on the screen
The moment Cora gets up, Robert tries to hide but is delighted with the way he looks today, he told him in the morning and plans to repeat it but he does not know how the atmosphere will be at the end of the meeting.
Mary is talking and he tries to grasp where he is heading when he hears:
-We will be in a meeting all this week because we need to reach a result before Saturday.
-It's okay, but we won't give in
Robert responds by pointing to the 3 men who accompanied them.
-Well, I'm not going to give in either.
Cora's comment is heard with a very serious tone.
Mary's office:
Mary sees how her mother tries to enter in a strange way and as if she were hiding from a person...
-I need you to take your father home today because I can't go with him.
-Mom but...
-No, seriously, please, take it! I don’t want him to take a taxi.
-You should not let what is happening in the office affect your marriage.
He laughs* - Nooo dear remember that tomorrow is his birthday and today I will give him his surprise.
Mary nods and somehow remembers that a week ago her mother had told her and her sisters about this day.
-Edith and Sybil already have almost everything I asked them ready at home, I must go, I have not let your father see me
-Goodbye, Mom
-Ah! And please try not to get so angry.
A snort from Mary and in a murmur it is heard
-That will be the most difficult thing
Minutes later...
-Have you seen your mother?!
I can't believe he left and took the car.
-Dad, please calm down, I'll take you home.
I know that mom had an emergency, something feminine.
-Oh please, if it was something like that I understand it but I don't understand WHY you don't let me know.
-Maybe he doesn't want to talk to you.
After he says it, he realises that it is not the best way to approach it
-Oh! I knew it, since we went out she ignored me, I don't understand why she does that, she is not supposed to interfere in personal life, she is the one who always repeats it.
-Okay, dad, wait, she's not angry, I don't know and I don't think so, she told me she had an emergency and I told her that I could take you. It's okay, besides, I'm going to get the girls because we'll go to dinner and some drinks later.
-Will the three of them come out?
Maybe your mother will join them, she still doesn't want to see me.
-Dad, please, we'd better go out...
Grantham House:
The girls and Cora are finishing organising, while Cora lights the candles, Edith is in charge of leaving the music ready for her so that her mother only has to play her. Sybil on the other hand is accommodating the wine and glasses.
-Mom, the wine is already cold but I still served a glass before cooling it... As you told me.
-Thank you darling, it's just that your father doesn't like cold wine whenever he drinks it, it's for me and I would like him to enjoy.
He shares a smile with his daughters and the sound of a car is heard.
-Oh, I think Dad is already here.
Edith says looking at her mother.
-Better we go out.
Both girls kiss their mother, while Cora is going to put on the dress, It was the only thing he was missing, While she was coming up, she decided to wear a red lipstick and she would be ready for her Robert
Downstairs the girls entertain Robert for a few minutes while they receive Cora's message indicating that they can leave now
-And is his mother there?
-I think she's lying down (Sybil)
-We really saw her when she arrived but she didn't leave the room anymore (Edith)
-Okay, well, we'd better go (Mary)
-Good night, dad (the three girls)
Robert says goodbye to three and reminds them not to return late while preparing to face an annoying or sick wife, he didn't really know what was going on with Cora.
Dinner:
Upon entering his house he perfectly recognises the woman who is by candlelight... His wife looked so beautiful, apparently she wears a dress attached to her body, she was able to see each of her curves in the shade.
In order not to damage the wonderful environment, he decided not to turn on some other light and without thinking just throw a:
-I'm very angry with you...
He doesn't know why but when he sees his wife's smile he also smiles and his previous comment comes out as a joke, Cora goes to him and he hands him his glass of wine
-Happy pre Birthday my love
She decides not to wait and joins the two drinks to start the toast to her husband’s life
-Oh, Cora! What is this?
-Your birthday surprise, just you and me.
He gives him a kiss extremely quickly.
-I thought I would spend tonight in the guest room and look, I can't believe it... Also
It turns it very slowly to contemplate it perfectly
-You are so perfect *kiss* Beautiful *kiss* And sexy…
This time his kiss lasted a little longer but Cora had to stop him.
-Now dear... Your birthday
He plays the list of songs he had chosen with Edith a few days ago and they both started dancing.
-If only we could agree on the company
Robert's comment is almost a whisper in the perfect environment they had created.
-Please, darling, I don't want us to talk about it.
-I just need you not to try to pressure or change my opinion, you know that we can't face those kinds of risks...
-Shhh please seriously, let's have dinner, let's celebrate and if you haven't changed your mind tomorrow I'll have to convince you in another way..,
He looks at it in a pretty flirtatious way
-Maybe that way I can think about it a little better
They share a light but honest laugh, the years they have been married and working together taught him that their working life was outside their marriage and each of the fights they have had in the company stay in the offices. Sometimes they may not have talked when they got home but they were still in the same bed and having dinner together. In addition, his family was always there, needing them, his daughters loved their parents' relationship almost as they loved each other. Cora knew that this decision would take a lot of time and conviction but she was willing to use the powers of a wife to convince Robert, it was difficult to take him on the business side but she was very confident in being able to do it.

The people all over the world travel regularly. They need a mode of reliable transport to travel daily. Many people go for public transports but are not happy with that. Because public transports are not safe and easy transports.

Leslie Grantham was born in Camberwell, London in 1947 and joined the British army in 1965, at the age of 18. A year later, however, on 3rd December 1966, Leslie Grantham paid a visit to West Germany, where he attempted to rob a taxi driver called Felix Reese with a pistol. The robbery went south and resulted in a struggle, which ended up with Felix being shot in the head.
He was arrested soon afterwards, where he claimed that he had not realised that the gun was loaded. If the jury had believed his story, it could have resulted in a conviction for manslaughter. However, this was not the case, and in Germany, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was first held in an army detention centre in Germany, before being transferred to Her Majesty’s Prison Service to serve the rest of his sentence – the transfer was due to him being dishonourably discharged from the British Army.
He was released from prison after 10 years, in 1977. It was during his stint in prison that he decided to take up acting and pursue it as a career. He gained notoriety amongst the British public when he was cast to play Den Watts in a new soap opera called Eastenders, which first aired in February 1985. He was the first character to speak in the show and Den Watts, along with his troublesome marriage to Angie, proved to be popular with viewers.
Den was originally killed off in 1989, but Leslie Grantham returned to the show in 2003, with his original departure being classed as the character faking his death. In 2004, however, a newspaper leaked photos of Grantham masturbating in a Captain Hook costume, sucking his finger and insulting multiple members of the current cast of Eastenders. Later in the year, it was announced Den was to be killed off again, which he was in 2005. He later succumbed to lung cancer on 15th June 2018.

Blatantly Partisan Party Review XVIII: The Independents, Part One
My final reviews are of the independents standing for the upper house, and for my own District of Brunswick in the lower house. You might very well have an independent standing in your lower house seat, but other than Brunswick there are 87 of them. I’m not doing all of those, sorry. Have a spin yourself with old mate Google. Cate Speaks is doing the independents in Pascoe Vale, if you happen to live in that electorate.
I am splitting my reviews of independents into three parts. This entry has independents in Brunswick, and the one independent standing for the upper house seat of Eastern Victoria. The second entry will just be South Eastern Metropolitan, which has many independents. The third entry will be the remaining upper house independents, who are contesting Western Metropolitan and Western Victoria.
District of Brunswick
Ahh, Brunswick. Good pubs on lower Sydney Road; good Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food further up. The Union Hotel Brunswick on Union Street is one of my favourite watering holes on the planet. There is the superb Village Bakery on Grantham Street. Over on Lygon Street is Sugardough, one of the few places in Melbourne where this Kiwi has found a butter chicken pie to rival those made in New Zealand. Trams! And, of course, Brunswick is bursting with excellent live music venues and bands to perform in them. I love nowhere more. Who would represent it in parliament? Well, you have a choice between representatives of the ALP, Animal Justice, Greens, Liberal (ugh), Liberal Democrats (ugghhh), and Reason—the links lead to my reviews. Or you could pick one of the independents:
George Georgiou (Facebook): His platform is simple and direct (the third part is great): “effective transport, good urban planning and trees! lots & lots of trees!” This guy has the sort of policies you might have expected from Transport Matters before discovering it’s a taxi industry front. His Facebook is full of posts about the need to get people out of cars and onto public transport; this post and graph serve as a pretty decent summary of what he wants to do. He comes across as passionate and knowledgeable.
Kerry Sourasis: Hard to find any details at all about Kerry. She might be a senior financial manager at Strategic Financial Group Australia (the uninspiring profile there suggests she would like to have dinner with the Queen and Margaret Thatcher, a big old red flag for me). A Kerry Sourasis is also president of the Kos Club, a group for migrants from the Greek island of Kos and their descendants. If so, it suggests some community engagement. The Moreland Bicycle User Group tracked her down though! In her survey answers (pdf) she does not come across as very informed about some of the key issues facing Brunswick over which the state government has control. She also has the support of a local business, whose Facebook post suggests she will be tougher on crime (suggestive of a right-wing alignment), rejuvenate Sydney Road (it’s pretty damn fine if you ask me), and wants a bike path parallel to Sydney Road (it’s got one already, the Upfield bike path!).
Christopher Anderson: He represents the unregistered party Save the Planet; see my review of that party.
Eastern Victoria
I’m sorry, I can’t wax lyrical about Eastern Victoria like I can about Brunswick, as I have only been beyond Melbourne’s eastern suburbs a couple of times. But as well as the parties contesting this upper house seat that sprawls across Gippsland, there is an independent in the field:
Michael Fozard (Facebook): Fozard has unfurled a “Team Together Gippsland” campaign to redress “false promises” made to the region. The Latrobe Valley Express reports that he was previously a member of the Liberals and the Australian Democrats. I am not warming to the Trumpian tones of his “make Gippsland great (again)” sloganeering, even if (indeed, partly because) he says “it’s just words”. His response to the South Gippsland Sentinel-Times emphasises local feelings of neglect by the state government. And, actually, Cate Speaks has done a fair bit of legwork on this guy, so I will save myself any further repetition and direct you to her profile. He strikes me as right-leaning, but not a far-right crazy.

Downton Abbey Character List
This is an updated list through Series 6. The original list is here, although I’ve also been updating own list in a Word Doc since 2013, which is what this is based on. Below are the characters listed in alphabetical order by last name (for the most part). Characters not ever appearing on screen are in italics. For real people mentioned, I’ve only included them if the Crawelys et al. knew them personally (references to real historical figures will be included in a separate list). While I’ve included some family members without names who are mentioned, I have left out minor characters with no names and also animals (if you need that info or have any questions on that, message me). This does include information that is only included in the S1-3 script books.
I hope that the Keep Reading works on mobile, because this list is very long!
A Acland, Lady Anne (S6E6) Acland, Lord  (d.; Anne's husband who died in WWI) Adams, Mr (formerly of the schoolhouse)
Aldridge, Ephraim Atticus [goes by middle name] Aldridge, Lady Rose (née MacClare)  Aldridge, Victoria Rachel Cora (b. 1925; we see photos of her) [Aldridge] Daniel, Lord Sinderby [Aldridge] Rachel, Lady Sinderby Other family members mentioned: Lady Sinderby’s cousin Sir John Gluck (at the S5E8 party but not on-screen), The Melfords (Lady Sinderby's cousins, including one named Anne) For Rose’s relations see  the MacClares

Ambrose, Benjamin Baruch (real life bandleader at the Embassy, S4CS) Ames, Captain [no last name given] Alice (S3 maid; no lines) Ansty, Joseph Gerald, the Honourable (winner of Ripon by-election of 1913, probably not a real person based on Fellowes' note in the script book)
Anstruther, Dowager Lady (née Mountevans) Anstruther, Lord, "Jock" (d.)
Astor, John Jacob "JJ" (d. 1912 on the Titanic) Astor, Madeleine (on the Titanic, survived in real life)

B Bakewell, Mr Bakewell, Mrs Bailey-George, Lady Elizabeth (S4CS) Margham, the Duchess of (I am assuming this is Elizabeth's mother, she is presenting her) Barrow, Mr Thomas (Acting Sergeant in S2) Other family members mentioned: Father, sister, cousin
Barnard (Downton Abbey gameskeeper, S2CS. Mary references him, and while I'm not sure someone was assigned to play him, he'd be in some of the shooting scenes) Barnes (tenant, S4E1) Bartlett, Mrs Audrey Bassett (gardener at Downton Abbey, S2E1)
Bates, Mrs Anna May (née Smith) Bates, Mr John Bates, [Anna and John's newborn son] (b. 31 Dec 1925) Bates, Mrs (mother of John, d. 1916) Bates, Mrs Vera (d. 1918) Other family members mentioned: Anna’s father (d.), Anna’s mother, Anna’s step-father, Anna’s sister (possibly d.); John’s Scottish grandmother who was a Keith (d.), John’s Irish relatives; Vera’s cousin Mr Harlip.

Bevan, Rita (S6E1, her fake name is "Ellen Gouse") [no last name given] Billy [also credited as "Race Stopwatch Man" in S6E7] [no last name given] Billy [mentioned by Mrs Hughes in S6E7, a hallboy maybe?] Bird, May (”Mrs” as she’s a cook) Family members mentioned: sister Blake, Mr Charles Blake, Sir Severus (Charles' father's cousin)
Bow, Mrs (lived in a cottage on the estate, the Bateses more than likely live in that same cottage now) Bramley (servant who wants to move the feeding pens and needed a decision, mentioned along with Cripps in scene seven in S1E3) Braithwaite, Miss Edna
Brocket, Mr (gardener at Downton Abbey, S1E4. Also mentioned in cut lines in S2E4) [S6E3 has a "Mr Brock" who cuts the flowers for the wedding. I assume that this is the same character]
Brand, Sergeant (works with Inspector Stanford) The Bransons of Cork (not related to Tom)
Branson, Kieran Branson, Lady Sybil Cora (née Crawley) (d. 1920) Branson, Miss Sybil "Sybbie" (b. 1920) Branson, Mr Tom Other family members also mentioned: Tom’s mother, Tom’s cousin in Boston, Tom's grandfather, other cousins (Bill [d. 1916], Nula, daughter of Nula)

C Callender-Becketts (where Sir Anthony was going when he stopped by to invite Edith to the concert in York) Carlisle, Sir Richard Carlisle, Mr Mark Other family members also mentioned: Sir Richard’s mother (d.)
Carson, Mr Charles Ernest ("Charlie") [middle name from prop] Carson, Mrs Elsie May (née Hughes) (”Mrs” Hughes as housekeeper) [middle name from prop] Other family members also mentioned: Charles' dad (d.)  and grandad (d.); Elsie’s sister Becky Carter (partner in law firm Matthew works at in Ripon) Cartwright, Colonel (who had a place for Thomas as a medic in the Great War, S1E7) Cavendish, "Taxi" [While a real family from the time, Fellowes notes in the script book that this person's first name comes from a friend of his father]
Chamberlain, Neville (Minister of Health in 1925, later Prime Minister) Chamberlain, Anne de Vere Cole (real person, Neville's wife. Fictitiously, she is Robert's father's goddaughter) Anne de Vere Cole's father (who served with Robert's father in the Crimea War) Horace de Vere Cole (Anne de Vere Cole's brother)
Charkham, Mr (Reggie Swire's lawyer) Chetworth, Mrs (Sir Anthony's sister) Chirk, Mr (lives in a cottage on the estate, more than likely the Bateses’ neighbor) The Churchills Clark, Daniel Clark, Diana

Corville, Oliver Coulter (tenant farmer on the estate) Cox, Mr (former spice shop owner in Thirsk) Courtney, Lieutenant Edward (d. 1917) Courtney, Jack Coyle, Peter Craig Crane, (”Mrs” as she’s a housekeeper) (Duneagle housekeeper)

People move every day through public transport. These transports do not provide a secure and reliable journey. The best option, in that case, is a taxi in Grantham. These taxi services are reliable and secure.

As car-sharing picks up in US, so do legislative battles
As car-sharing picks up in US, so do legislative battles Car-sharing companies including Turo and GetAround function like Airbnb for vehicles, allowing people to rent out their cars when they’re not using them. Founded about a decade ago, they’ve taken off recently with the help of millions of dollars from venture capital firms and other investors. PHOENIX — When Chris Williamson was in the market for a new family car, a timely ad and conversations with a co-worker convinced him to try something out of the ordinary. He bought a BMW 3 Series convertible and covers the payments by renting it to strangers on a peer-to-peer car sharing app called Turo. It allows his family of seven to have a nicer car, essentially for free. “It’s great to have that little bit of extra income and not have to worry about the car payments,” said Williamson, a teacher from the Phoenix area. But his customers and others using car-sharing apps around the United States get their rentals tax-free. That’s made them a target for rental car companies, airport authorities and local governments, which say users of the upstart apps should pay the same taxes and fees that come with traditional rental cars. At stake is hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue that cities and airports count on to pay for stadiums and convention centres or to fund police, fire and other general operations. “These companies are very sophisticated, technology-savvy companies that have hundreds of millions of dollars invested in each of them,” said Ray Wagner, senior vice-president for government relations at Enterprise Holdings, parent of the nation’s largest car-rental firm. “They should be expected to comply with the same rules as a small, mom and pop rental car company located in rural Arizona.”
Tumblr media
The AirBnB of car rentals is launching in three Canadian provinces in a limited international expansion as it grapples with the types of insurance headaches that often plague sharing-economy startu… Turo says Enterprise is trying to stifle competition. Car-sharing companies including Turo and GetAround function like Airbnb for vehicles, allowing people to rent out their cars when they’re not using them. Founded about a decade ago, they’ve taken off recently with the help of millions of dollars from venture capital firms and other investors. That’s put them in conflict with the $42 billion-per-year rental car industry and the tourism and government agencies that tax it and regulate safety and consumer protections. The battle is heating up in some three dozen state legislatures as well as the courts and offices of local tax authorities. Barraged with lobbying from both sides, lawmakers are grappling with how to regulate an emerging industry without destroying it — a repeat of recent fights between the taxi industry and Uber and Lyft, and between hotels and Airbnb. “The tragedy would be if we snuffed out something like this in its infancy that has a lot of great potential,” said Arizona Rep. Travis Grantham, a Republican who has introduced legislation backed by Turo that would exempt car-sharing from all rental car taxes except the standard sales taxes. Tourism taxes have long been popular with politicians who can use surcharges on hotel rooms and rental cars — paid largely by visitors who vote elsewhere — to raise money for local priorities. Forty-four states levy excise taxes on rental cars — on top of the standard sales tax, if one applies — and most allow local governments to levy their own as well, according to a March study by the Tax Foundation, a conservative think-tank . Airports often add surcharges to pay for sprawling rental-car facilities. Taxes, fees and surcharges can add as much as 30 per cent to the cost of renting a car while generating millions of dollars. In metropolitan Phoenix, the baseball league that draws fans to 10 stadiums for spring training every March could see a sharp decrease in revenue as the new platform for car rental grows, said its president, Jeff Meyer. Rental car taxes help cover debt payments for some of the Cactus League’s facilities and for the Arizona Cardinals football stadium. California, Oregon and Washington passed legislation on car-sharing years before the industry took off, and Maryland did so last year. Bills governing the practice have been introduced in more than 30 other states, with the fight especially contentious in Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Mexico and Ohio. Turo also is fighting in court with Los Angeles and San Francisco airport authorities, which contend the company should pay fees. Meanwhile, Chicago tax authorities wrote that car-sharing is subject to rental car taxes in response to questions from an Enterprise lawyer, according to a letter provided by the company. In Arizona, Enterprise is backing legislation that would tax car-sharing like rental cars and require them to enter agreements with airports to use their facilities, while Turo supports a proposal that would exempt car-sharing companies from most taxes. In Ohio, a detailed package of new regulations on car-sharing companies was tucked into the House version of the state transportation budget. It came as the Columbus Regional Airport Authority broke ground on a new $140 million car rental facility that relies on a steady stream of car rental user fees. The peer-to-peer companies won a temporary reprieve last month, when the provision was dropped from the bill. But Ohio Sen. Bob Peterson, the No. 2 Republican, said he anticipates a stand-alone regulatory bill will be introduced soon. “I think everybody was agreed this is a new industry that needs some more regulation,” Peterson said. Both sides portray their position as a matter of fairness. Those advocating stricter regulations say people who rent out their cars for profit should not only pay the taxes but meet the safety and transparency requirements that go with renting a car. “The goal is levelling the playing field,” said Arizona Rep. David Livingston, a Republican who is sponsoring legislation to treat car-sharing firms like rental car companies. “You want all these companies operating with the same type of rules and regulations so they can compete and the best one wins, whoever that is.” Turo’s lobbyists point to the billions of dollars car-rental firms save on taxes. Most states charge no sales tax for vehicles sold exclusively for rental, and allow those companies to pass along vehicle licensing fees to customers. Turo asks why its users should pay rental taxes if they’re not exempt from other vehicle taxes that benefit rental car companies. “Our host community is individuals that are just trying to offset the cost of a car,” said Steve Webb, the company’s vice-president of communications. “And Enterprise is this $24 billion Goliath that is using their political connections to stifle innovation.” Turo says more than 95% of Turo’s 197,000 “hosts” share three or fewer cars on the platform. But some of the company’s 350,000 listed vehicles are owned by people who rent out small fleets. Wagner, the Enterprise executive, calls it a “politically motivated fiction” for Turo to focus on taxes paid by people who occasionally list their car. For Williamson, the Phoenix teacher who rents his BMW through Turo, the prospect of his customers having to take on those taxes and surcharges is concerning. The people who rent his BMW are looking to splurge. He also sometimes rents his family’s Honda Pilot SUV. “Any time you start to creep the price up for anything, you’re going to get people who say, ‘Oh, I guess we won’t take the convertible this weekend. We’ll just take whatever Hertz has on special,”‘ he said. —— Associated Press writer Julie Carr Smyth in Columbus, Ohio, contributed to this report. The Real Estate Conversation
The Real Estate Conversation
There has never been a better time for first home buyers and would-be investors to buy a house in Darwin, according to CoreLogic data. Darwin's declining population is weighing on the property market, Quentin Kilian, chief executive of the REINT, told SCHWARTZWILLIAMS. The Darwin real estate market has bottomed, so local owners should feel less pressure to take the first offer that comes along, says Glenn Grantham, general manager, Raine & Horne Darwin. Elaine Mills speaks to SCHWARTZWILLIAMS about the innovations she has introduced in her business, including employing virtual assistants in the Philippines to do the administration for her property managers. Karl Secondis of One Real Estate, Darwin, has been a successful agent for more than 20 years.
The "negative gearing" of investment properties is not well understood by the general public, and I also tend to think that most residential investment properties in Australia, are not negative geared for taxation purposes. They are purchased to provide positive income, investment, and security for the future. It seems that some of the aged persons over 65, that are not collecting an aged pension, are the ones that own residential investment property. Negatively geared, not on your life. In many locations through-out Australia the capital growth of property is quite low, so owning a rental property that is rented at a loss becomes a liability. Every year, there will be business' that run at a loss, and it would be virtually impossible to identify an "intentional loss for taxation purposes". The ownership of investment properties is with-out doubt, one of the prime sources of "intense jealousy" between various people within the Australian community. This is probably why the issue of "negative gearing" of property has become so intense.
Every year Forbes publishes the list of the richest people in Australia. 2009 showed a drop in the number of billionaires (we're down to 9) but despite the changes in the economy these entrepreneurs proved that fortunes can still be made. Almost everyone on the list started out with a small venture that eventually flourished with dedication and a mind-set to defy the odds against making it big. They are an inspiration to Australians everywhere with dreams of success to hold their course and just keep going. 590 million at the age of 84? Mr. Alter landed on the shore in 1949 right out of Poland and hurried up to get a job, 2 jobs as a matter of fact. A bit later he bought a couple shops and a bank near Melbourne. Yes, that's right - a bank!
Currently his son, Sam runs his Pacific Shopping Centers and manages his portfolio of prime retail properties in the vicinity of Melbourne and Adelaide. This wealthy Oz tycoon likes things that give you a buzz. He started out on the path to fortune as a coffee farmer but really made himself known with the Rosemount Estates winery. In 2001 he sold off the entire kit and caboodle for cash and stock to Southcorp. He turned around in 2003 and flipped the stick to Foster's as a means to buy Hamilton Island. He has taken the cup in the Hobart-to-Sydney race 4 consecutive years with his yacht, Wild Oats.
He keeps himself occupied with exporting his name-brand wines to the U.S. This sister and brother team was fortunate to have a father that discovered some tremendous iron ore deposits in Western Australia. Rio Tinto's Hamersley mine provides them and other family members annual royalties. Wright's primary concern is his Voyager Estate winery. Rumor has it that as a teenager Mr. Van Lieshout left school to work at a job unloading bananas. After moving from his native Holland he eventually started up the Super A-Mart furniture chain which he sold in 2006. Currently he is in the market for Brisbane real estate. Len Buckeridge is synonymous with BGC Group, a major home builder in Western Australia.
200 million private port. 600 million. He stirred up some scandalous talk when accused of making payments in secret to a Queensland politician. He denies the bad news. Mr. Harvey started dropped out of agricultural college to sell vacuum cleaners door-to-door. He later co-founded Harvey Norman, the electronics retailer. The CEO is his wife, Katie Page. He is a horse man, with a stake in the thoroughbred auction house, Magic Millions. 200 million. The return on the flagship fund has been 11% annualized. Mr. Perron sold handkerchief boxes after dropping out of school and later tried to make a go as a plumber. Australian Investment Properties didn't really make it big until being gifted with a Toyota franchise from a former boss. He established dealerships all over Western Australia and now invests in real estate.
Fox is a former pro in the Australian Football League and got started on his way to wealth by selling soft drinks from a truck. He founded the largest logistics company in Australia: Linfox. He enjoys classic cars - has 130 of them. Stokes is the primary dealer of Caterpillar equipment in Australia. He adds to his fortune by his stake in media group, Seven Network. Lately he has been attempting to grab up Perth's Western Australia Newspapers. Originally from South Africa, Neilson set up Platinum Asset Management in 1993 with George Soros backing him. 500 million. His next plan is to open a contemporary Chinese art museum. Along with other family members she benefits from her late father's mining assets: Rio Tinto's Hamersley Basin Iron Ore Mine.
Rinehart also owns a direct stake in the family company Hancock Prospecting. Pratt was at one time a McKinsey consultant and ran Visy Industries U.S. 20 years. He is now co-chairs the packaging kingdom with his mother, owned in entirety by his family. He co-owns the global operations with his two sisters. 1 richest person in 2008. Sadly he lost his position due to decreasing iron ore demand which affected shares of his Fortescue Metals Group. A Chinese steel group recently took ownership of part of the company. There was a bit of scandal around the deal which he denies.
Gandel owns prime real estate - lots of it, including half of Melbourne's Chadstone shopping mall and a stake in a trust that owns the other half. Rumor has it that his private home is the priciest in Melbourne. Known affectionately as "High-Rise-Harry", he is Oz's apartment building tycoon. He was born in China to Russian parents and started his career as a taxi driver. He now owns hundreds of flats in Sydney and North Shore. Lowy is another one of the country's real estate moguls as well as the president of the Football Federation Australia. Casual Lunch, 2 p.m. Perhaps inspired by Melbourne, whose narrow lanes are known for their hip cafes and boutiques, Adelaide’s side streets are having something of a moment. Experience the vibe on Ebenezer Place, which is lined with an eclectic mix of businesses; last year, a popular suburban establishment, Parwana Afghan Kitchen, opened a sister restaurant, the pint-size Kutchi Deli Parwana. 9.50 at 1.36 Australian to the U.S. On a sunny day, order a few dishes and take a seat on the sidewalk to soak in the atmosphere. 2. Arty Afternoon, 3 p.m. The Art Gallery of South Australia houses an expansive collection in its stately building on Adelaide’s North Terrace, a leafy boulevard lined with grand monuments and University of Adelaide buildings.
Inside, admission is free to most exhibitions, and you can browse Australian, Aboriginal and European art, and even a small Islamic gallery. If you’re in town early in the month, you’re in luck: The museum stays open until 9 p.m. First Fridays, with a festive program of live music, guided tours and talks with featured artists in the evening. 3. Pedestrian Promenade, 5 p.m. Adelaide’s main promenade is Rundle Mall, a long pedestrianized artery, home to the city’s best shopping and restaurants. 4. Handmade Haven, 7 p.m. For a souvenir that reflects Adelaide’s creative spirit, pop into Urban Cow Studio.
Its rooms have creaky floorboards splattered with paint and are cluttered with jewelry, housewares, canvases and more, all handmade in Adelaide by more than 150 local artists and artisans. Look out for funky Elodie Barker ceramic mugs (44 dollars each) and hand-poured soy candles in coconut, espresso and mango papaya scents (30 dollars for medium, 40 dollars for large sizes), or browse exhibits by local artists. The location also houses the Howling Owl cafe and the comedy club Rhino Room. 5. Out of Africa, 8 p.m. One of the city’s top chefs is an import from South Africa, and since he opened Africola in November 2014, Duncan Welgemoed has been bringing the flavors of his home country to Australia. Africola’s interiors are a nod to the shebeens (taverns) of the townships, with colorful murals, repurposed Coke bottles (here doubling as chile-sauce dispensers), bright fabrics and plastic menus illustrated with Mandela motifs.
A Sydney real estate agent will face a string of charges in court next month after she allegedly stole a credit card from a house inspection. The woman, 38, allegedly took the victim's bank card when showing potential buyers a property in the northern beaches suburb of Dee Why on Saturday. Police will allege she asked the current occupant of the residence to vacate the premises during the hour-long open inspection. 3,200 in a frenzied shopping spree in the area. That night the man was contacted by his bank to advise him what appeared to be suspicious recent activity on his credit card,' Northern Beaches acting crime manager Guy Magee told The Manly Daily. The man was told there had been a series of tip-and-go purchases on his credit card in a period of a few hours at retail outlets in Dee Why, Collaroy, Narrabeen and Avalon.
Australia’s resources boom has seen all eyes turn to Perth in recent years - and the Western Australian capital city is known as a dynamic, metropolitan area with a population of some 1.7 million people. As the nation’s fastest-growing state, WA is focused on development - and nowhere in the state is as focused on business, culture and arts and entertainment than Perth. Real estate in Perth - where to start? When it comes to Perth real estate, there are many factors to consider - and with so many suburbs to choose from, you might want to begin by choosing the lifestyle factors that are most important to you.
If you’re keen to get out and about on WA’s famous beaches, you might want to start your Perth property search in Cottesloe. As one of the city’s most prestigious suburbs, you’ll find a great mix of housing types here - offering close access to more than three kilometres of stunning beaches. There are plenty of amenities to be found along the waterfront - including numerous restaurants and cafes. Alternatively, outdoor enthusiasts might want to investigate the Perth real estate on offer at City Beach, which is situated 11 kilometres from the Perth CBD. Boasting plenty of natural bushland and excellent sports facilities at City Beach Oval, City Beach is part of the Town of Cambridge and has plenty to offer residents who love to be active.
A waterfront alternative to Perth’s main beaches are its riverside suburbs and Attadale - which is located nine kilometres from the CBD on the south bank of the Swan River - is particularly appealing. Attadale offers a pleasant blend of the best the city has to offer - Perth property dwellers here enjoy views of the CBD, as well as ample riverfront - which includes cycling paths and walkways. While one and two-storey family homes are the norm here, units and villas can also be found - ensuring there is something for everyone. Whether you’ve decided to relocate to Perth or are simply looking to make an investment, the agents at Ray White can help. With more than a century of experience under our belts, we are well-equipped to help you through every stage of the process, whether you are buying, selling, renting or investing. We’re responsible for approximately ten per cent of all real estate transactions in Australia - and you can rest assured that our commitment to our customers is evident in everything we do.
Owning property has long been the Australian dream and regarded as a pretty safe investment. But a number of Australians have been hit by criminals who have sold their house through simple identity fraud, then pocketed the profits and disappeared. Recently a house in the Canberra suburb of Macgregor was offloaded through a South African-based real estate scam without the owner’s knowledge. The owners, who are based overseas, only discovered their investment property had been sold when they contacted their property manager to query why rental money hadn’t been paid. Canberra Police are now investigating a series of exchanges which resulted in the fraud and the disbursement of funds.
“The absence of the home owner and an inability to personally review documentation which may be fraudulent provides leverage for the scammers to operate. Police would urge home owners residing overseas or travelling overseas for a lengthy period to establish robust protocols which protect and confirm their bona fides,” ACT Police said in a statement. In late July a 46-year-old man was charged with fraud after allegedly falsifying his identity to sell two Gold Coast homes which didn’t belong to him. Earlier this year NSW Fair Trading Minister Stuart Ayres issued a warning to property owners and real estate agents about scam emails being sent to landlords living overseas.
“The scam email advises agencies of managing landlords to forward forms to them to complete and return to the scammer,” he said. A run of these types of scams resulted in a group of Western Australian property owners being defrauded of their properties. 240,000 unit at Perth suburb Mandurah. Allegedly the trio changed the owner’s contact details and subsequently made a request to sell the property. An offer was received for the property but the scam unravelled when a contract was sent to the rightful owner - luckily by mail, and before deeds or funds had changed hands. Cutajar said there was a real risk in Australia’s property market of scammers stealing their title and selling or mortgaging their property without their knowledge.

He said it all starts with identity fraud. The scammer acquires fake birth certificates, Medicare cards, passports and drivers licences in the home owner’s name. Cutajar said the forms of identification only need to look real because a real estate agent or solicitor are only going to sight the documents. Discovering your house has been fraudulently sold to an innocent buyer makes recourse complicated and difficult. “In almost all of the cases it has resulted in litigation,” Cutajar said. “In some instances they may go against the owner, in some instances they may go against the real estate agent that sold it.
