ive been meaning to ask you, what are your thoughts on the new vegas dlcs? :o
Theyre good!... Mostly. I cant make many excuses for Honest Hearts.
If you have them already/can get them for free, then I suggest you play all of them and in order of release (Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road). Though if you have to buy them all individually, then I suggest just doing Old World Blues then Lonesome Road.
Dead Money is good story-wise but I really hated the gameplay. And Honest Hearts is... visually pretty, but VERY racist. Even for Fallout. Its gameplay is only marginally more interesting than the base game, so if you arent set on doing all of the DLCs then I'd skip this one.
As for Old World Blues and Lonesome Road, theyre great and I cant recommend them enough. Old World Blues has both great gameplay and lore, really enjoyable characters, great humor, lots of replayability... its been my fave the moment I finished the intro cutscene. Lonesome Road is kinda slow but the character its based around is PEAK fiction, I'm serious. Its hard for me to think of a character I think is more badass. For real if you can only play one of the DLCs, PLAY LONESOME ROAD!
I'll put a synopsis under the cut, so see if youre interested in any of em!
Dead Money
Dead Money is set in the Sierra Madre, an extravagant resort that would have been the greatest casino in the west, had it ever been opened. The bombs fell before the grand opening event, and the Sierra Madre froze in time, its state of the art security system locking the place up tight. After many years, the climate control and air conditioning systems began to spit strange toxins into the surrounding city, causing a red cloud to form over the area - which proved lethal to anyone who tried to explore the city. The Sierra Madre attempted to send out a distress signal on the day of the War, but the system did not broadcast an alert signal, having been hooked up to the gala event to broadcast advertisements for the casino, so help never came. And so the Sierra Madre faded from memory, only occasionally being seen in posters across the wastes, until it took on mythic ghost story status, a supposed "City of Gold" in the wasteland where all the treasures of the Old World were rumored to be held. And then a weird old guy kidnaps you and makes you and a few other NPCs explore it to look for gold.
Honest Hearts
Honest Hearts takes you on an expedition to the wilderness of Utah's Zion National Park. Things go horribly wrong when your caravan is ambushed by a White Legs raiding band. As you try to find a way back to the Mojave, the Courier becomes embroiled in a war between tribes and a conflict between a missionary and the mysterious Burned Man. The decisions the player character makes will determine the fate of Zion. Fun fact, the Burned Man is the Joshua Graham you've probably heard a lot about.
Old World Blues
The Courier is abducted by the Think Tank, a group of pre-War scientists that have replaced their bodies with machines. Learning that the Think Tank has removed and subsequently lost the Courier's brain, the Courier aids the Think Tank scientists in fighting Dr. Mobius, the rogue scientist currently in possession of their missing brain. Exploring the Big MT facility, the Courier rediscovers lost technology and fights off Lobotomites, Robo-Scorpions, and more. Really fun characters, though a few plot points aged really poorly. So be careful of that.
Lonesome Road
Lonesome Road brings the Courier's story full circle when they are contacted by the original "Courier Six," a man by the name of Ulysses, a former frumentarius of Caesar who refused to deliver the platinum chip at the start of the main storyline in New Vegas. In his transmission, Ulysses promises the answer as to why, but only if the Courier takes one last job; a job that leads them into the great depths of the Divide, a landscape torn apart by frequent earthquakes and violent storms. This is the fabled location of the battle between the Courier and Ulysses. The road to the Divide is a long and treacherous one, and of the few brave enough to walk it, none have ever returned. Another fun fact, Ulysses drops so much lore and commentary that a third of the game had to be cut just to fit his text files in!!

Only Beginning...
Another long walk in another long deserted vast sandy fucking place. Granted what else would you expect from a desert but honestly you would think with running water or at least traveling caravans there would be more places set up instead of leaving it to just constantly be long stretches of NOTHING. Jazmine couldn't even change the music channel since she let Cass wear the pip-boy as repayment for helping her with that unnaturally fast radscorpion.
Granted she wouldn't have had to be running for her life if she had listened to him in the first place but with a warning like "Darlin' I know damn well you didn't walk right out of the vault cryo chamber to be doing something that stupid!" how could she not go through with it?
Thinking back on it, if anyone else had said that to her they probably would have had a lot more of a hostile or judgy tone. He was just in disbelief and maybe, if her ears and brain still worked like they should, a teensy bit curious about what she was about to do.
At least they both have the answer for what would happen when you tried to distract a radscorpion with food that had some Jet in it. Though to be fair she thought it would have died or something like when you fed bugs things laced in bug spray or whatever it was those commercials always talked about back in the Old World.
Back to the current...music choice on play, 'Something's Gotta Give' can be played only so many times before that singer gets on her nerves. She didn't get why, but something about him seemed so annoying and she was unsure if it was just the heat and being chased ruining her mood or if people could be unbearable even after death. A bit unfair to say about a singer she never met before the war anyways but still.
"Why the sad face, last I checked you sang along to everything! Don't tell me you're upset that Ol Cassidy had to save you from a big bad radscorpion?" His voice rumbled with both slight dehydration and amusement.
Just as she was about to open her mouth and retort, her pipboy radio crackled to what seemed like a quiet death before a soft, lovely voice of a woman started talking.
"Has your life taken a turn? Do troubles beset you? Has fortune left you behind? If so, the Sierra Madre Casino, in all its glory, is inviting you to Begin Again. Come to a place where wealth, excitement, and intrigue await around every corner. Stroll along the winding streets of our beautiful resort, make new friends... or rekindle old flames." At that Cass raised a brow and looked to Jazmine, a cheeky smile on his face before she swat at his arm and turned back to listen, "-Let your eyes take in the luxurious expanse of the open desert, under clear starlit skies. Gaze straight on into the sunset from our Villa rooftops. Countless diversions await. Gamble in our casino, take in the theater, or stay in one of our exclusive executive suites that will shelter you - and cater to your every whim. So if life's worries have weighed you down... if you need an escape from your troubles... or if you just need an opportunity to begin again, join us. Let go and leave the world behind at the Sierra Madre grand opening, this October. We'll be waiting."
"Now why does that sound familiar-' the furious and swift paced pats to his arm caught his attention as Cass looked over to his partner, who had some sort of realization on her face.
"I heard this announcement before, I remember hearing it before I got..." She trailed off, both of them already knowing what she was going to finish with anyway.
"There any chance they had a vault?" Cass hummed, listening to the broadcast again and trying to find out where it was coming from, failing to mention he had heard tales of a casino out in the wastes, untouched by treasure hunters much less bounty hunters like himself. Other than that however he had no information. The treasure could be in anything or anywhere at that Casino.
"A bunch of rich people in one place while in the middle of a nuke threatened world? Nah." She smiled up at him, the amusement in her answer too cute for him not to raise a brow at. "Seriously though, do you think they might still be alive or maybe have descendants in a vault? Maybe we should go see what it's like!" she left out how she didn't have a chance to see it in the first place considering how pricey a place like that would be. Hell you needed an invitation to even go! Ugh, rich people.
"You know, that kind of enthusiasm can get you killed. Remember the mole rat situation when you first thawed?" His voice was light with humor, but his brows twisted it more so it felt like worry, likely just both.
"Okay first you didn't even tell me mole rats got that big and that aggressive! Second, how was I supposed to guess what nukes would do to wildlife! I thought it would kill them and make them extinct!" she threw her hands up in the air, offended he would bring that up again. Ever since it happened he never let her live it down! Like sure maybe she shouldn't have followed it home or anything but she hadn't pet any animals in technically a long amount of time!
"Uh huh. You didn't seem surprised when you saw a radroach." He argued, already setting a point on her pip-boy and walking towards it, as she instinctively followed after him still holding the conversation.
"Hey, roaches are roaches. Those bastards live through anything we even knew that if they were hit with radiation and, or, bombed with nukes they would still somehow survive!" She jogged a little to catch up with Cass since she had the height disadvantage when it came to pacing, and shielded her eyes from the sun with her hand. "Not to mention that I did at least scream in surprise when I saw it before learning it was a radroach."
Their conversations continue with the same bickering about nothing and laughing about everything until eventually they hit one of the NCR's camps, Camp Forlorn Hope. The signal wasn't coming from in it, rather just a little farther away from it. That didn't seem right to either of the pair, especially since this was a casino they were supposed to be looking for. What piqued their curiosity though was the fact that it was so close but the NCR had no knowledge of "odd radio signals" nearby and simply suggested the pip-boy must have a problem with it or something was wrong with its reading of the airwaves. Regardless, they continued in the direction Cass marked until the sight of an entrance to what was most likely a BOS bunker came into view.
Once entered, Cass returned Jazmine her pip-boy and looked around the room, his first target a headless corpse that still looked fresh.
Jazmine moved her eyes to the wall, a scrap of red paper, or some kind of poster with the words "SIERRA MADRE" written on it.
"What the hell is this?" Jazmine turned her head to her partner, who was holding a clear jar filled with...some kind of residue in it. "I ain't ever seen something like this around the Mojave. Hell, I don't think I should be holding onto it any longer actually." He huffed, setting it down softly in case jostling it would cause something worse.
"Hey Cassidy, do you hear that?" Jazmine craned her neck listening for whatever noise it was she was hearing. It was constant, and soft, like it was playing in another room.
"Darlin' don't try and scare me, you'll just end up making yourself scared." He laughed, stopping when he noticed she hadn't frowned at him for ruining her prank. He listened with her, raising his brows when he heard it too, looking to her quietly in silent agreement. He steadily reached his hand to his pistol and followed her down the bunker stairs noticing "SIERRA MADRE" was written above the door.
Once the door unlocked and opened, the sound was clearer.
It was the broadcast.
"Is someone just playing it on the waves?" Jazmine whispered, more to herself than really asking him for an answer. Cole knew how she worked out questions and mysteries, she'd done it many times and saved him along with it, so he kept quiet to make sure he didn't interrupt her train of thought. He trusted her.
After a second of looking into the other halls on the way to the lone radio sitting on a table in the middle of the room at the end, she stopped.
"Something about this is off Cass, something I don't like." She whispered, eyes staring ahead at the radio projecting the woman and her broadcast recorded so long ago.
He glanced down to her, knowing she only used that particular nickname when she was unsure, worried, afraid even. It didn't matter which of the three it was as he softly rested a hand on her shoulder, "Whatever it is it'll have the both of us to deal with won't it?" he smiled.
She scoffed, a smile quickly adorning her face, "yeah. I guess you're right. Alright… let's go see what this is about."
Slowly, and together, they walked forward. Cole didn't notice anyone in there and neither did Jazmine. It was just the radio, the voice, and them. When they took a single step into the room gas burst from the vents above them, something they couldn't see because of the doorway.
"Shit!"
"Fuck!"
Coughing, and waving their hands in a futile attempt at keeping it away, Cass and Jazmine soon fell to the floor, lungs burning and eyes watering. She gave in first and Cassidy reached his arm out towards her before he gave in, two sets of footsteps approaching but just as quickly fading out with his own consciousness.
