Cayman Snuggle Beach Apartments
With all rooms overlooking the ocean, this spacious, private 1 bedroom apartment takes up the entire front half of a large, 3-storey Beach House. There is a king-size bed, tropical themed decor and colorful original Caribbean artwork on the walls by local artist Nadine Brown. The large living room has a queen-sized pull-out sofa bed and a recently renovated, fully-equipped kitchen with full-sized fridge, ceramic cook-top stove, dishwasher and microwave/ convection oven. See the Amenities tab for a full list of what’s included. You have the option of adding another bedroom [called “Cozy Corner” on this website] and bathroom to this unit for a nominal fee (based on availability). If you need even more room, then the studio apartment [Blue Sea Hideaway] can also connect to this unit (again, based on availability). This is done through interior hallways, with locking doors on each end. In other words, the 2nd bedroom can go with either unit, depending on which door we unlock. There is an extra fee for adding another bedroom, and you would need to check on availability first before booking. There is an 8 foot wide by 30 foot long patio with lounge chairs, and the piece de resistance is the large, built-in circular whirlpool tub by day and hot tub at night, on the patio overlooking the Caribbean Sea. A few steps from the patio is a stunningly beautiful white, sandy beach, lush with vegetation and palm trees. Lounge chairs are located on the beach, along with a hammock. There is great snorkeling right around the pillars of former pier. We also have 2 tandem kayaks for our guest’s exclusive use. Just a 10 minute walk down the road, you will find a grocery store, liquor store, large souvenir shoppe, a spa, two resorts and several restaurants. In addition, you can rent all the waterspouts you could imagine: windsurfing, boogie boards, masks, snorkels and scuba diving at the Morritt’s or Reef resorts. You can be as secluded and relaxed as you want to be – or as active as you want to be. Or enjoy the best of both worlds with a stay at Snuggle Beach!
Cayman Paradise Villas has been helping our guests enjoy incredible vacations in Grand Cayman for over 12 years. With an assortment of units to choose from, we can accommodate anyone from the solo traveler to a large family gathering, anniversary, birthday, reunion or wedding, including up to 22 people at the same location!

Back at it... and always wanting MORE.
I wasn't even sure that my tumblr account still existed, but here it is, still there and so much fun to read through for me. The Lord just keeps telling me to write  things down that he teaches me and tells me, so I am hoping to listen a little bit better than I did 7 years ago. How is that even possible, 7 years. I now have a 6 year old and a 9 year old, they are my world. These elementary years have been my favorite by far. They learn so much and so quickly, they are always changing yet still sweet and imaginative. Just the other day they made a zoo with all of their stuffed animals and lined them up along the walk way up stairs and then we played doctor with all of them and they brought their animals to the emergency room. I made up the problems and helped them figure out what they should look for and what questions to ask. I knew my nursing skills would eventually pay off! They used all of my nursing tools to create casts, listen to heart rates and check temperatures. They also documented all of their findings and put in orders on my old broken Mac laptop that feels like it weighs 10 pounds. How quickly things change.
We recently returned from the Grand Caymans and had such a wonderful time. I will have to add in some pictures. My children’s joy for the beach and the ocean reminded me of my younger self. The younger self that I seem to be less and less of every day. I miss that self. I sat telling my husband, Eric, that it is a lot harder for me to enjoy the beach as much as I have in the past. I used to feel free at the beach, to feel alive at the breath of sea air, to soak in the sun rays and watch a sunset as if the world was all right and good. So I asked myself why, why can I not enjoy life like my younger self? Where is my joy? This is a question I have wrestled with for a couple of years now and am still trying to figure out. On the outside my life appears like I should have every reason to be joyful, and lets be honest I should be joyful. In my school aged years I would always receive that awards that had something to do with joy. For my college nursing graduation each person was given a word that represented them and yes, you guessed it, my word was joyful. Out of 100 plus people my word was joy. I feel like I have been in a battle for my joy with the devil and some days I feel like I am losing more than I am winning. All that to say, I am here to fight. I am going to put on my armor of God and fight the devil. It is no surprise that he wants to take away probably one of my most impactful God given gift to reach other people. It is no surprise he wants me to lose my joy but I will not let this happen.
Here’s the hard part: self reflection. So if it isn’t my life on the outside, it must be something on the inside. Within my heart and my mind is where the problem lies. I often find myself in a state of constant stress, achievement or performance. I am always working and never resting. Some of those things in life are things that will never go away such as feeding my children, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, driving my kids to school, pulling weeds, laundry etc.. I know you all get the picture, these are essential needs in life and my role as mother and wife. However, some of the other stressors in my life are things that I have placed on myself, things like wanting to be skinner, to be fitter, to be stronger, to be prettier, to have perfect skin, to eat more clean, to feed my kids just the right foods so they can healthier, to be more self disciplined, to be more stylish, to be more successful, to be more useful, to be more intelligent, to have more money, to read my Bible more, to be more patient, to be more loving, to be more like Jesus.. the list goes one. To sum up this type of stress- it is my desire for MORE. Everything is MORE and nothing is enough. Now some of these things on this list are not necessarily wrong but the continual striving does not allow me to sit and rest in the presence of my Lord and Savior who is MORE than ENOUGH. I have replaced my Savior who says I am enough with a world that says I need more. Unfortunately, no matter if I am all of these things or none of these things, I still need a Savior. I will never be enough apart from Him. I cannot do enough, I cannot be MORE or anything to have him love me more. My joy comes from the Lord, no from myself, but a gift of the Holy Spirit. I need more Jesus in my life. MORE Jesus = MORE Joy.. the only MORE I need.
Verses I found encouraging on joy-
2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Psalms 28:7 The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me and my heart is filled with joy.
2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
2 Peter 1:3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
Hebrews 12:2 says, Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Quotes I found insightful on joy-
“Joy is the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of my life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright and the determined choice to praise God in every situation.” Rick Warren
“Joy is prayer. Joy is strength. Joy is love. Joy is a net of love by which you can catch souls.” Mother Teresa
“Joy is the serious business of heaven.” C.S. Lewis

The crazies are now comparing pantry wood to Armie's kitchen in the Caymans in their persistent delusion that Tim and Armie are sharing a house. So where was his selfie taken? Grand Cayman is under lockdown. He'd have been arrested for venturing out on any but the designated grocery day. Shipping is "fun" but use what's left of your brains, people! BUT MAC AND CHEESE! BUT HONEY BEAR! 🙄 Frankly, I think most of those Charmies are 12 years old.

Explore the world of real estate in the Cayman Islands
Are you looking for a place like home minus the commotion? There is only one place on Earth that can give you all these — The Cayman Islands. Whether you like the city’s liveliness or the tranquility of island living, there is something for everyone.
Tumblr media
The properties on the islands are as diverse as their neighborhoods. Every locality has its charm. There are plenty of houses for sale in the Cayman Islands, but you have to be quick and proactive because countless people are eyeing them. The slightest delay might lead to an opportunity slipping away. It is because the demand for properties far exceeds the supply.
Top Reasons to invest in the Cayman Islands’ Residential Properties.
Standardized laws across the country — The laws in the Cayman Islands are uniform all over. A law in Grand Cayman would be the same in Cayman Brac or Little Cayman.
Zero restrictions on foreign ownership — There are no restrictions on foreign ownership (for personal use). It is possible for two or more people to own a particular property. A corporation could own it too. If you own a piece of land, there is no compulsion to develop it. The government of the Cayman Islands also guarantees the right of ownership.
Organized system — The real estate sector in the Cayman Islands is highly organized. Every property out there is assigned a unique block and parcel number. Prospective buyers can look at all the records and previous transactions, restrictions on the property, etc., to ensure that they make the right decision.
Tax neutrality — If you have purchased a property for investment, no taxes apply. There are no taxes like — income tax, property tax, inheritance tax or capital gains taxes, etc.
Easy access — The Cayman Islands are close to North America. Since there are so many American and Canadian expats living in the Cayman Islands, the government has increased the number of flights and their frequency.
Permanent residency — The standard of living in the Cayman is relatively high. The country relies on tourism, offshore banking, and company incorporation to earn its revenue. Such opportunities attract people from all over the world. Foreigners who purchase real estate worth CI$1 million are eligible for citizenship, but out of that amount, at least CI$500,000 should be used towards developing real estate.
Political and economic stability — The Cayman Islands is a representative parliamentary democracy, and it has experienced zero political upheavals in the past 60 years. The value of the Caymanian dollar enjoys a higher exchange rate than that of the American dollar. This tells us a lot about the economic situation of the country. The island has plenty of excellent hospitals, supermarkets, grocery stores, schools, and everything to lead a comfortable life.
Friendly people — The Caymanians are warm and friendly. Thanks to a helpful, responsive, and proactive police department, the crime rate is also relatively low.
Variety of properties — You would be amazed by the sheer variety of properties that the Cayman Islands offers. There are plenty of houses for sale in the Cayman Islands, from high-end luxury villas, apartments, condominiums, penthouses to affordable housing. Areas like the Seven Mile Beach are on the higher end, while South Sound, Red Bay neighborhoods are best for people who desire affordable housing.
Ease of transfer — Real estate transactions in the Cayman Islands is convenient and straightforward. When both parties arrive at a decision, they sign a contract, which becomes legally binding. Each property is listed on CIREBA, the regulatory body for real estate transactions in the Cayman Islands. It ensures the legitimacy of all dealings.
Guaranteed title — The government of the Cayman Islands maintains details of land; hence insurance is irrelevant. A single land registry has the required information, and it’s open to the public. Potential buyers can access this resource and get all the requisite data related to the liens’ ownership history and records.
Great ROI — Owing to its scenic beauty, work opportunities, offshore banking, and financial services, and tourism, the Cayman Islands’ real estate industry has grown by leaps and bounds. The year 2019 witnessed a 9% increase in market transfers as compared to 2018. The total value of transfers saw a rise of 17.8%.
Privacy — The Cayman Islands is one of the most popular jurisdictions for offshore financial services, company incorporation, asset protection, etc. These banks and financial institutions hold over 1.7 trillion dollars in assets. It makes up approximately 6% of the world’s banking total banking assets. In the last 12 years, the Cayman Islands’ financial services and the banking industry have witnessed a drastic change because of the anti-money laundering legislation.
The laws protect the privacy of the property owners, though. Properties can be held in corporations and trusts, no restrictions for foreign ownership either. Ignorance and the spread of misinformation have led to the myth of the Cayman Islands being a hub for money laundering and tax evasion. The robust legal framework, strict code of ethics, transparency, and equal opportunity for all will enable organizations to build a successful business empire.
Vibrant market — The rapid growth in the Cayman Islands’ financial services and tourism industry has drawn thousands of people from various countries. It has sparked the need for the development of new real estate projects across the Islands.
Conclusion
Regardless of whether you want to purchase property for investment or as a second home in the Cayman Islands, decide based on your budget, requirements, and how long you intend to live on the Islands. Only borrow as much as you can repay. Remember to consult an attorney before signing a deal and only buy properties listed on CIREBA.
The real estate market is experiencing a lull phase right now because of the pandemic. Buyers are hesitant to enter the market, and sellers are playing the waiting game. However, this is not Cayman specific; it’s happening all over the world. All of this is just a temporary phase, and it will pass.

Few questions to ask before selecting Grand Cayman condos!
Tumblr media
Looking forward to booking Grand Cayman condos? If yes, you need to check out numerous alternatives available. Make sure you never prefer to select the condo rental that you come across first. At the time of checking out various vacation condo rentals, you need to ask some questions. By asking these questions and getting answers, you will be able to make the right choice for your vacation accommodation.
Some questions to ask before booking Grand Cayman condos are as follows:
What are the policies related to cancellation?
Before getting the booking done and processing the payment, it is one of the important questions that you need to ask. Considering taking travel insurance can be a good option for protecting your vacation. You need to know that different condo rentals will have different policies. Hence, you must compare numerous options prior to making the final choice. You must pay attention to information regarding cancellation fees and deadlines related to cancelation before making the payment.
Are the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry stocked through basic things?
You need to ask the homeowner or condo manager regarding what all items will be stocked in the condo rentals. Make sure you prepare the list of things that are not included. Once you know that some things are not included, you need to research if there is any grocery store close to the rental.
Are pets allowed on the premises of condo rental?
Do you have a pet? If yes, you would surely like to take your pet along with yourself on vacation. In that case, you need to know if the condo rental allows pets in the premises or not. Ensure you inquire about the extra prices charged for the pet and what if there is some damage due to pet. Some of the rentals have specific requirements as far as the age and breed of the pet is concerned. If the property manager or owner of Grand Cayman condos states that pets are allowed, it does not mean that all types of pets are allowed.
Will the condo rental be cleaned before arrival?
The rules and regulations of all vacation condo rentals are different. You need to clarify about the cleaning and maintenance of the condo. A majority of the vacation condo rental will charge additional fees for cleaning and maintenance. Ensure you check this before booking.
These are some of the questions that you need to ask before selecting Grand Cayman condos.
CaymanVacation.com holds over 28 years of experience arranging perfect Grand Cayman Island Luxury Vacations serving over 60k vacation rental guests. She whams it.
And that’s when I found myself mildly scraped up, sweaty, hands covered in grease and completely baffled outside a liquor store in George Town.
I had hopped on the communal bike to spin down to the beach. Feeling like a bit of a superior local after my three days here I weaved through the cruise ship people and around the slow moving island lunch time traffic towards Seven Mile. I am still not used to riding a mountain bike but was getting a lot more confident hopping on and off the curbs. On, off, on, off, yeah! Too confident. I hit one at the wrong angle and pumped the non working front break and panicked. I bounced slow motion (and from a spectators view - probably hilariously) into a roadside bush. I re-surfaced in one piece except for some scratches on my arm and a definite loss of smugness. I went to get back on the horse if you will except there was a problem, the chain was off. Now, this has happened to me before. But in high school, which although it feels like no time at all, is actually a lot of time ago. I tried to no avail for about ten minutes until a very nice actual local came over and taught me how to do it. With one hand in one go! So grateful for you sir. I rode on to the beach a with a laugh and a fair bit more respect for curbs.
Seven Mile Beach is known for its beauty, and has received the title of "The Caribbean's Best Beach" from Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine. It’s actually only 5.5 miles long and absolutely amazing to beach walk and people watch on. The sand is incredibly soft and the water just crystal clear. I already know this will be a big part of my next two months. After frolicking in the ocean, drying off on the sand and watching a couple segway tour fails I was ready to find some shade and air con.
I headed back towards town and stopped at one of the two major Grand Cayman grocery stores - Kirks’. Prices are about the same as home except in KYD insead of CAD. So times the price of everything by 1.6. Ouch. But with some moderation and clever pre planning you can make pretty great food on a budget. I got two homegrown roma tomatoes, a giant mango, green onions, limes, a can each of chick peas and black beans, a bag of orzo pasta and a bottle of basil flavoured olive oil for $14 KYD ($22.50 CAD). Which is salad for three or four meals. I’ll take it.
Upon arriving home I found that despite sunscreening frequently and wearing a short sleeved cover up I still had managed to burn my bike riding forearms. Rocking the farmers tan, haha.
I spent the rest of the night on the couch applying lotion and watching BBC Earth Africa with my South African roommates. Their real life Africa stories are even better!

The Twenties
Yikes.
I’m going to loop back a bit and pick up a few details from the first two years at DU - I decided on DU because they decided on me.  I went up there with Dad to audition in the spring of ‘76 and I met, what is in retrospect, the most odd collection of a voice faculty you could imagine - all of them stereotypes, some more genuine than others, and I think I got the most real teacher in that crew in the form of Truly Barr Nelson.  She had black hair with a skunk-white, bride-of-Frankenstein stripe down the middle.  She claimed it was natural.  She was the most normal of the bunch. There was Jack Morris, the kind of spacey Heldentenor type with whom most of the kids who were clearly opera-tracked studied.  Filling out the trio was Ron Worstell, a fairly nice guy with an almost permanent sneer who taught all the other opera-bound folks.  Education majors, those more suited to art-song, and choir nerds went to Truly.
I lived with Karen in Centennial Towers the first year, and then we moved into a 4 bedroom on-campus apartment for sophomore year.  It was still team fun then; we strapped on our backpacks on the weekend and made the big hike to Safeway, meal plan in hand, so we could get our groceries and cook up our meals for the week.  My most memorable one was when I decided to make Dutch Baby and forgot to put the lid on the blender.  We had a good time, and our lives were mostly simple, and filled with the usual drama between adolescents; audition results, boys, studying, and trying to figure out how to grow the heck up.  It’s a bumpy ride, and we mostly enjoyed the journey.  We picked up Lisa J along the way, who became our biggest fan.
There was a lot of fog and distraction, some good, some not so good, but the bright light shining through it all was my love for singing, and the pursuit of music.  We’ll leave it there, and if I write my book, there will be more at that point.
One of the bright lights was Lori, who I met sophomore year when she became my accompanist for voice lessons and any solo performing that I did.  She made me laugh so hard, and we became inseparable friends, and lived together for the better part of two (or more?) years.  For awhile, we lost touch, and we recently got back together at a wonderful lunch with Paul and Doug, who were also pals, drinking buddies, and fellow music school survivors.
Tumblr media
My indecisiveness and foray into Speech Pathology and Audiology got my credits a bit goofed up, so  it took a bit longer than four years to finish.  We agreed I’d finish my Bachelor’s in voice, while starting to pursue an MA; I had a teaching assistantship, and things just kind of blew up during that time.  I felt totally misled by what little advice I received.   I met the fabulous David Gordon, who introduced himself with this line:  “You know what your problem is?  You’re competent.”  Our adventures and mis-adventures helped show me who I am; he shared his joy of singing and blindingly goofy perspectives on all things human.  During that time when he was artist in residence, he was completely fueled by PBR and chili rellenos from The Border.  Me too.  Miraculously, through a series of synchronistic circumstances he and his former wife Barbara later became deep family friends, and he and his current wife Ginna over time, have arrived in the landscape for all three of us even now.  We’ve visited with them, and they’ve been a huge part of helping me in my transition to empty-nester.  I am so grateful.  True Friends.
Tumblr media
Before I left college I made the very wise decision to move to a place really far away from campus and get a dog.  Totally screwed that one up.  Lori eventually took Pete the dog;  he was a great dog, and she took care of him until he went over the rainbow bridge many years later.  Shown there with him is kitten Duster, who I also had to transfer to Mom and Dad.  I was looking for love in all the wrong places....
Tumblr media
I finally graduated.
Tumblr media
After college, I got a job at Hatch’s Bookstore in University Hills Mall, where I met Dave, who treated me this year with a great photo from that time.  He and I got married, it didn’t work out very well, and then we got unmarried, after I crashed my car over a retaining wall down onto the Platte River.  Nuff said.  Dave is a wonderful guy - we just chose the wrong relationship form for success.  He still makes me laugh, and I have happy memories that I keep.  The other ones are long-gone in the process of forgiveness, of both of us.  This photo pretty much sums it up:
Tumblr media
(What’s interesting, as I reflect, is that Dave and I spent a lot of time hiking and biking.  It was the last time I have spent any significant time on a bike.  This bike issue keeps coming up as I have been writing this week.  Hmmmm)
After Hatch’s, I went to work for Western Federal Savings, which changed to Bank Western Federal Savings Bank.  Great naming convention!  I enjoyed my time there, working my way from Teller to a short temporary stint as Asst. Mgr. being coached by Dennis the whole way.  Dennis is another one of those gold-mine people that stay with you for life.  Another Good Friend.  I sang in the Opera Colorado Chorus, and the Denver Symphony Chorus, worked for the opera company for a short stint and quit the day the boss put her shrimp shells in her outbox for me to take to the kitchen.  I had a romance with a french horn player who sent me fan mail (that is a very good way to get a date) to introduce himself.  Way before OK Cupid.  I’m not sure where my photos from all that time are.  If I find them later, I’ll make an addendum.
There were a few trips to Wyoming.  My good friend MaryEllen lives in DuBois, and we drove up there to visit at least twice, one time was in connection with the Teton Music Festival where I got to sing Mahler 3 and listen to Mahler 4 with Zubin Mehta.  Incredible.  I think the Tetons has to be in my top 6 places in the country. Also included in that list are mom’s deck, San Francisco, Haines, and the Sonoma/Mendocino Coast, and western Oregon because that’s where my kids are.
I frequently drove back and forth to Colorado Springs to see Mom and Dad and the boys, who had a whole new lifestyle which included going on SCUBA dive trips to fabulous locations.  I went on one with them, to Grand Cayman, and will always have in my mind a picture of my brothers with outstretched hands encouraging me to snorkel with them.  The most amazing thing.  If you haven’t snorkeled, you must.  You forget you are human.  And, according to Dad, silently giggling on rum punch, you must always keep your center of gravity low.
Tumblr media
Right around the change of decade, I got restless.  I had been out to visit Jack in San Francisco, and fell in love with the city, the beautiful surrounding environment, and the temptation of adventure and change.
So, I moved.
See you tomorrow.

There’s a Greek-Muslim-Italian guy with black hair that might be a murderer and rapist and might be knocking on doors for Walmart.com, Amazon.com and other companies to trick deliver actual packages paid for by other men victims that he goes ahead to hand over the packaged box of purchased products with his large facial and contagious BLACK WART on his face to rub upon and against the customers’ faces door by door, to create confusion so that me and other men victims would be shot and killed at instead of him, while the Greek-Muslim mob’s Psychologists and Psychiatrists discredit the psychiatric outpatients that would be his victims. They are trying to kill my liver and kidneys with more medications and humiliations and stigmas! The City of Pembroke Pines and Lakes at Pembroke Rental Hell-Whole of Grand Cayman Islands women hired trash collectors to search through my garbage to possibly interfere with my chemistry and nutrition through future groceries products being tampered with and poisoned.🧘🏻‍♂️🦚Derek Hernandez Fuentes Luna

Grow
Being that this is the week back from Spring Break, and I just finished a fantastic trip earlier this week, I thought I would touch on one of my favorite things. Traveling. I, personally, love traveling and I have ever since I was a kid. I love learning new things and cultures, and being able to put a different perspective on my life. There are so many things we read about and learn about in school, but until you see them in real life it does not truly sink in. One of my favorite trips I have ever taken was to Zurich, Switzerland. I loved how much they took care of their city. It was very clean, they used electric public transportation, and heavily recycled. Nothing in the grocery store was in multi packs or premade. That was a tough transition once I first arrived, especially with a toddler, but by the end of the trip, I adjusted. It really made me see how spoiled we are in America, and how many conveniences we really do have. We truly just do not know until we have to live our own lives without. I learned again on my most recent trip to Grand Cayman the differences in culture. Everyone in Cayman Islands are so kind. I find that so hard with the heavy amount of tourists – and those tourists make many errors driving. They are just very patient people, unlike in America. They as well take care of their island. Everyone contributes to making the island a better place instead of not cleaning something up because they did not make the mess. It is so refreshing to go to other countries and be able to see such culture changes. Personally, it makes me very sad for people out there who do not care to travel or think America is the greatest place ever. America is pretty great, and we have so much to offer here, but it is also very great to learn how others live and I feel like we are never truly appreciative of what we have and actually do offer here until you see that even the small things are not offered everywhere. Not only can we learn about the conveniences, but also the lifestyle most of us live is not the same way other people do around the world. The world is such a beautiful place and there are so many wonderful places and people – we just need to get out there to do it.

BangShift Test Drive: 2018 Jeep Compass Sport 4×4 – Small, Basic, Manual Transmission SUV. Perfect.
Meet one of the few vehicles that I’ve actively asked for and sought out instead of just going to the dealership and saying, “that one.” Here’s my rationale: the SUV/CUV/crossover market is hot, so it makes sense to look for one since that’s all any manufacturer seems to really care about making right now. Take the list of what’s out there and narrow it down to, “What would I willingly allow myself to be seen in?” Take that list, arrange by price and features, and come up with the ultimate compromise that you can live with. Would I like a Tahoe? Sure, but have you priced a Tahoe anytime recently? If not, do yourself a favor and look at used car lots before you shop new, then thank me later. Would I like a Navigator or an Escalade? Eh…they are nice to drive and nicer to ride in, but that’s too much for something my heart isn’t truly in. What makes sense is a smaller SUV that has four-wheel-drive that isn’t a Jeep Wrangler. Why not a Wrangler? Because the price tag buys you into legend and lore, not so much useable SUV. And it’s a solid price tag.
The Jeep Compass nameplate has been around for just over a decade, but the first generation, which ran from 2007-2017, is a horrid little thing. I make no bones about it, the first-generation Jeep Compass sucks out loud. It’s a plastic lump of crossover fever that didn’t do anything dramatically well…or adequately well…or even attempt to. They were supposed to be a first-time Jeep buyer’s idea of what a Jeep could be, which is usually code for “cheap”. Buyers saw it and treated it as such. For 2018, the Compass is still more of an entry-level offering, but now it looks like a scaled-down Grand Cherokee and not like a dollar store Matchbox car. I like the look, and I like the fact that you can still option one with a six-speed manual transmission. Locating a three-pedal Compass, however, would be a task, yet here we are, what I feel would be an ideal daily driver that the insurance company will be happy with, what the kids can ride in, what you can use in all but the most extreme situations as a responsible adult. So, without further dawdling, let’s get on with the photos:
Now, that’s much better! The second-gen Compass doesn’t scream “RENTAL BEATER” like the first-gen did. The downsized Grand Cherokee look suits it well, with looks butch enough to pass as a Jeep but not cartoonish. The Trailhawk version is a touch more visually aggressive and sports the Trail Rated badge, but the Sport 4×4 should work for most buyers. Jazz Blue Pearl suits the Compass nicely, and if you look closely you can see some of the striping of the Graphics Package, one of only two options this Jeep sports.
Behold, the Tigershark inline-four. This 2.4L mill makes 180 horsepower and 175 ft/lbs of torque here. No, it’s not fast. Not in the least. But it’s not an embarrassment, either. Putting around town only requires four gears, and you don’t even bother with sixth until you get out onto the Interstate, where you can still put yourself well above legal speeds without being anywhere near half-throttle. We might be spoiled for power these days, but in what would easily be a daily-driver choice, you could do worse.
I’ll admit that I had some initial reservations about interior room in the Compass. I keep viewing these crossovers as tiny, and seeing how the Compass only has an inch of length over a Porsche Cayman, I will say that you can use this easily as a family car. Only when the front seat is all the way back, will rear-seat occupants have something to complain about. There are no issues with front seat legroom or headroom whatsoever.
The Sport trim level is a bit of a misnomer…it’s the bare-bones, basic level for the Compass. There’s no gingerbread to be found. No color-trimmed gauge bezel, not dolled-up sound system, none of that. Sport means that you have a car that will do what you want when you ask it to do something, nothing more. And whether you find that odd or not is up to you…here, I loved it. Except for the plastic surfaces that feel like a GM product circa 2002. That could’ve been changed up.  The transmission is the C635 six-speed manual trans from Fiat, which is leaps and bounds over the nine-speed ZF automatic I last sampled in a Fiat 500X. Throws feel solid, clutch engagement is easily read, and while it’s not the most sporty feeling thing in the world, in a small SUV it might as well have a polished gated shifter compared to an automatic version.
So what is the appeal of a low-buck, manual trans, basic four-wheel-drive small SUV? Utility. With the seats folded down, you can use it for what 80% of people use bigger SUVs for: groceries, luggage, the cage for the dog, that random yard sale find, whatever. You aren’t going to be hauling stacks of 4×8 plywood here. And if you have to be told about that, maybe you should just let the home improvement store bring your lumber to your house. And maybe cut it for you, too. You probably shouldn’t be near a power saw.
In normal operation, the Compass’s Active Drive all-wheel-drive setup is a FWD-biased system that sends power to the rear when needed. But when you need it, you can keep all four turning in a single range with the usual programs for traction control. If you need more than that, look to the Trailhawk for a more hardcore system. Note the aux jack and port for the sound system…
The sound system in the Compass is b-a-s-i-c. But those ports underneath are your solution: just rig up your phone and play what you want, when you want. I pull the same trick in older cars all the time. As a bonus, you can keep that phone charging with the USB cable we all know you’ll have in here in seconds. Problem? Solved.
The seats are capable, if a bit harder than expected, and the seating position for my tall frame was quite pleasant. The only thing I didn’t care for about the Compass’s seats were the headrests…in the down position, I had this huge bulk right between my shoulder blades. Your experience may vary. The steering wheel is tilt and telescopic and shifter position is fine.
The compass was driven through a small town, on an Interstate and on winding back country roads. Due to impressive rainfall, I was not going to take it off-roading. I’m not answering questions on why a 33-mile SUV was sunk to the doorframes, sorry. What I found was that for a daily driver, this thing is sweet! No start-stop, no mindless automatic, no problems. What would bother a lot of people about the Compass Sport, like interior gadgets and gingerbread trim, aren’t present here. This isn’t the next big thing to steal your heart and a year’s salary out of your hands…Jeep and FCA as a whole have a fleet of dream machines that do that nicely. The Compass is instead the reliable friend. Nothing dramatic, nothing spectacular, but there every day ready for just about whatever. Isn’t that what you want in the daily driver?

How to select the best Grand Cayman vacation rentals?
Tumblr media
When you are planning for your vacation, staying at the rented property rather than a hotel can offer you additional space and privacy during your vacation. A lot of people rent a house, apartment, condo, or other kinds of rentals as they feel like a home away from home. There are lots of Grand Cayman vacation rentals available in all price range, proximity, and size. There are several things on which you need to pay attention to when you are planning to hire Grand Cayman rentals.
The Following are some of the guidelines that can help you to choose the best Grand Cayman vacation rentals:
Check the rentals through property management companies and private owners
Make sure that you search for the rental through a property management company when you want rentals that are pre-screened through the agency. There are chances that the rentals might be costly, however, you can get instant access to the property manager when something breaks or doubts arise. In case you prefer personal contact, you prefer renting directly through the owner. Such rentals can be less costly as the owners will not have to pay commissions to the property management company.
Prioritize your requirements for a stay
Make a note of the things you want in your vacation rental and put them in the order of importance. In case you are traveling with kids, make sure you search for the kid-friendly rental. With such rentals, you can get additional bedrooms, a pool, and close by a playground. In case you want to enjoy a quiet and private vacation, search for the rental that is in the secluded area.
Carry out proper online research
A majority of the Grand Cayman vacation rentals can be found online with pictures, reviews, and rates. You need to search for properties that offer lots of photos. With this, you will be able to witness interior and exterior pictures of the properties.
Consider the location
In case you are not going to take a car on rent, you will want to ensure that the property is within the walking distance from the restaurants, entertainment, and shops.
Get in touch with the manager or owner
Check out the phone number and email address, so that you can get in touch to discuss more the rentals. Make sure you inquire about everything you need to know like what type of kitchen utilities are available, how close is the nearest grocery store, and if there is any parking facility available.
These are the few things you need to pay attention to at the time of selecting Grand Cayman vacation rentals.
