Local grocery stores say no need to panic-buy
Foster’s Countryside in Savannah (CNS): The dockworkers’ strike in the United States at ports along the US East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico, which began on Tuesday, will have no immediate effect on grocery supplies coming into the Cayman Islands, according to a joint release from local supermarkets. A statement issued Tuesday evening by Foster’s and Priced Right in solidarity with Cost-U-Less,…

When I hear predictions that the old order will (eventually) fall, I get to thinking back to these odds things the ruling class and their apparatchiks have been saying in the years leading up to our current sitch.
One dude who really stood out to me was President Carter’s National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, who had a habit of speaking rather bluntly about Realpolitik.
I don’t get the impression that he was an overt “Enemy of the People” -- not in the way that neoliberals are -- but rather a post-WW2 technocrat and policy nerd who had a sanguine attitude towards making the sausage.
Some of his greatest hits:
People, governments and economies of all nations must serve the needs of multinational banks and corporations.
Well… if we must, then we must. 🤷‍♀️
This regionalization is in keeping with the Tri-Lateral Plan which calls for a gradual convergence of East and West, ultimately leading toward the goal of one world government. National sovereignty is no longer a viable concept.
Today we are again witnessing the emergence of transnational elites ... [Whose] ties cut across national boundaries ... It is likely that before long the social elites of most of the more advanced countries will be highly internationalist or globalist in spirit and outlook ... The nation-state is gradually yielding its sovereignty.
…to the Cayman Islands, presumably, or wherever the money is stashed. Or maybe to the Middle Kingdom. Who even knows anymore? 🤷‍♀️
We have a large public that is very ignorant about public affairs and very susceptible to simplistic slogans by candidates who appear out of nowhere, have no track record, but mouth appealing slogans.
Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, George Santos, Mike Johnson, and of course that other dude with the comb-over… what was his name again? 🤔
The Technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more CONTROLLED society. Such a society would be dominated by ELITE, unrestrained by traditional values.
Who would have thought “The Free Market” would be one of those traditional values dumped into the dustbin of history?
Say what you will about neoliberals, but they get things done. Or is it “do things in”? 😉
[The Technetronic era ELITE] will influence the behavior of people and will control and watch the society in all details. It will become possible to exert a practically permanent watch on each citizen of the world.
BTW, aside from our iPhones tracking us and Amazon/Alexa surveilling us, I just want to say that I Luh-uh-uhve ❤️😍🥰😻💕 all the new security cameras in every aisle of my local grocery store.
And the dudes with loaded guns sitting by all the doors…? Tight!
Glad to see those windfall profits that Kroeger extracted from us are being put to good use. 👍
Shortly, the public will be unable to reason or think for themselves. They'll only be able to parrot the information they've been given on the previous night's news.
…or on social media? 😵‍💫
But to bring it back to the OP, something he said while speaking to a group of University aristos in England seems relevant to any discussion of to old power structure being on their last legs:
“In early times, it was easier to control a million people than to kill a million. Today, it is infinitely easier to to kill a million people than to control a million.”
That seems… ominous, nu? Like, is that a promise or a threat?
We have decades, hell -- centuries of evidence that when it comes down to a choice between all of our lives and a single one of their dollars, the elite will gladly sacrifice all of us.
Eagerly sacrifice all of us.
Thirstily, even.
So if it comes down to it, and it’s easier to kill millions of us than to surrender their privilege in order to reform a dying system, well…
The old order will eventually fall -- they all do -- but how many of us will it take out before then?
😅
Anyway, as a bonus, these comments on Ukraine seem particularly relevant to the current moment:
Ukraine, a new and important space on the Eurasian chessboard, is a geopolitical pivot because its very existence as an independent country helps to transform Russia. Without Ukraine, Russia ceases to be a Eurasian empire. However, if Moscow regains control over Ukraine, with its 52 million people and major resources as well as access to the Black Sea, Russia automatically again regains the wherewithal to become a powerful imperial state, spanning Europe and Asia.

Cayman Snuggle Beach Apartments
With all rooms overlooking the ocean, this spacious, private 1 bedroom apartment takes up the entire front half of a large, 3-storey Beach House. There is a king-size bed, tropical themed decor and colorful original Caribbean artwork on the walls by local artist Nadine Brown. The large living room has a queen-sized pull-out sofa bed and a recently renovated, fully-equipped kitchen with full-sized fridge, ceramic cook-top stove, dishwasher and microwave/ convection oven. See the Amenities tab for a full list of what’s included. You have the option of adding another bedroom [called “Cozy Corner” on this website] and bathroom to this unit for a nominal fee (based on availability). If you need even more room, then the studio apartment [Blue Sea Hideaway] can also connect to this unit (again, based on availability). This is done through interior hallways, with locking doors on each end. In other words, the 2nd bedroom can go with either unit, depending on which door we unlock. There is an extra fee for adding another bedroom, and you would need to check on availability first before booking. There is an 8 foot wide by 30 foot long patio with lounge chairs, and the piece de resistance is the large, built-in circular whirlpool tub by day and hot tub at night, on the patio overlooking the Caribbean Sea. A few steps from the patio is a stunningly beautiful white, sandy beach, lush with vegetation and palm trees. Lounge chairs are located on the beach, along with a hammock. There is great snorkeling right around the pillars of former pier. We also have 2 tandem kayaks for our guest’s exclusive use. Just a 10 minute walk down the road, you will find a grocery store, liquor store, large souvenir shoppe, a spa, two resorts and several restaurants. In addition, you can rent all the waterspouts you could imagine: windsurfing, boogie boards, masks, snorkels and scuba diving at the Morritt’s or Reef resorts. You can be as secluded and relaxed as you want to be – or as active as you want to be. Or enjoy the best of both worlds with a stay at Snuggle Beach!
Cayman Paradise Villas has been helping our guests enjoy incredible vacations in Grand Cayman for over 12 years. With an assortment of units to choose from, we can accommodate anyone from the solo traveler to a large family gathering, anniversary, birthday, reunion or wedding, including up to 22 people at the same location!

For the end of year asks... 6, 19, 48?
No. 6 So for the first one I travelled to Philadelphia PA, Ocean City MD, Newark NJ, and to Gettysburg PA. It’s difficult to say which is my favourite trip since they were all great fun just at different times like it was fun going to Philly but not on the way back and it was fun coming home from Newark but not going there.
No. 19 so something nice I did for myself was turning down a job at the local grocery store, I was torn between either doing that or doing my internship at the middle school. I decided that I would do something I had an interest in rather than pursuing a job with money but no interest.
No. 48 there’s so many places that I’d love to go to all of which have something to do with history or with Britain as Liz would know. It’s not necessarily travelling but I’d love to move to the Cayman Islands, it would be a nice place to retire in, I’d invite people for tea, play my guitar on the porch, and give advice to the youngins like my Grandad did over here. It would be like a circle, I grew up surrounded by trees, moved into towns and cities and then in my later years I return to the forests and woodlands that I love. Thank you for the asks, I’m sorry that it was rather long in both text and in the wait. Have a good day and a Happy New Year.

Of Cayman Islands and Honeymoons
A group of children were sitting on a fallen tree trunk – pretending  it was a motorbike. I asked the “driver” where they were off to….”Cayman Islands,” stated the 4 ½ year old matter of factly. “WHERE?” I asked incredulously. “Cayman Islands,” she repeated patiently. “Where is that?” I asked her wide-eyed. She smiled kindly and said, “It’s really far away, Ms. Deepa . It’s a place where summer always lives.”
Tumblr media
Some children are playing HOUSE. A 4 ½ year old has taken charge of dispensing roles. ”I’ll be the mom,” she says. Then pointing to a 4-year-old she says, “You be the dad,” and then pointing to the two 3-year-olds she says, “You can be baby sisters. And you,” she says fixing her gaze on another 4 year old, “you can be the babysitter.” General, if unenthusiastic, agreement ensues. She triumphantly turns to the pretend dad and says, “Come on honey, let’s go to the grocery store. Girls, we’ll be back in 2 hours.”  She addresses the not completely invested babysitter and says, “Make sure the girls go to bed at bed time.”  The babysitter vaguely agrees though she is more intent on digging in the snow. As she walks away, the 4 ½ year old matriarch casually tells me, “After the grocery store we are going on our honeymoon.” There was absolutely no way I could let that pass. “What’s that? What’s a honeymoon?” I ask.  “It’s a place people go after they get married,” she replied. “What an unusual name for a place. I wonder why it’s called that,” I mused.  Her brow briefly had just a hint of a frown and then she said, “It’s probably because there’s a really big moon and you get a lot of honey.” The pretend dad’s ears pricked up.  “Honey?” she asked. “That means there must be lots of bees and I don’t like bees. So I don’t want to go to the beemoon place, thank you”

Today in the town square they were celebrating medieval days.  I took some videos of Estonian dancers reenacting Medieval dances.  Their costumes were so authentic and the dancing appeared to be as well.  Hopefully at some point I’ll figure out how to transfer them from the Kindle to this blog.
I entered the town square this morning to take a free tour of what they call “old town.”  There was well over one hundred people for two guides they split the group in two and our guide was so amazing!  A for-pay tour could not have been better.  I hope she got more in tips than she would have gotten, if employed by someone else.
I’m going on this tour again before I leave, it was fact-filled to the point where I feel that I learned as much interesting history of Estonia in two hours, as I would ever want to know.  The architecture was phenomenal.  There was even a quite unexpected onion-domed Russian Orthodox church that I thought I’d have to go to St. Petersburg to see.  We saw so many structures that originated in the 1200’s and learned about what buildings succumbed to bombings by Germany, invasion by Russia, lightening strikes, early conflicts between Denmark and Germany.  I’m going to insert the Wikipedia entry on Tallinn in case you want to read more.  She covered all of it, in a clever and entertaining way.  She held my interest with every word.  Part of her talk involved a pitch to incorporate in Estonia because they were trying to support e-commerce globally (and benefit from the taxes) so they make the legalities very easy to navigate (sounded a bit like Bermuda and Cayman Islands).
Wikipedia - Tallinn (/ˈtɑːlɪn/[4][5] or /ˈtælɪn/,[6] Estonian pronunciation: [ˈtɑlʲˑinˑ]; is the capital and largest city of Estonia. It is situated on the northern coast of the country, on the shore of the Gulf of Finland in Harju County. From the 13th century until 1918 (and briefly during the Nazi occupation of Estonia from 1941 to 1944), in languages other than Estonian, the city was known as Reval.[7] Tallinn occupies an area of 159.2 km2 (61.5 sq mi) and has a population of 450,305.[8]
Tallinn, first mentioned in 1219, received city rights in 1248,[9] but the earliest human settlements date back 5,000 years.[10] The initial claim over the land was laid by the Danes in 1219, after a successful raid of Lyndanisse led by Valdemar II of Denmark, followed by a period of alternating Scandinavian and German rule. Due to its strategic location, the city became a major trade hub, especially from the 14th to the 16th century, when it grew in importance as part of the Hanseatic League.
Tallinn's Old Town is one of the best preserved medieval cities in Europe and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.[11] Tallinn is the major political, financial, cultural and educational center of Estonia. Often dubbed the Silicon Valley of Europe,[12] it has the highest number of startups per person in Europe[13] and is a birthplace of many international companies, including Skype. The city is to house the headquarters of the European Union's IT agency.[14] Providing to the global cybersecurity it is the home to the NATO Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence. It is ranked as a global city and has been listed among the top 10 digital cities in the world.[15] According to the Global Financial Centres Index Tallinn is the most competitive financial hub in Northern Europe and ranks 42nd internationally. The city was a European Capital of Culture for 2011, along with Turku in Finland.
When I first got in the group for the free tour, I asked the guide a question about costs for converting dollars to Euros.  She said she didn’t know, but a 19 yo girl from England spoke up with the information.  Her name is Sarah and we spent the next five and a half hours together. The three and a half hours after the tour was filled with non-stop chatting.  I was definitely not as well-informed and articulate as she when I was 19.  We covered almost any topic you can imagine.  It was a genuine mother/daughter or friend/friend rapport.  Also, something I can’t imagine happening, under any circumstances in the U.S.
Complete change of topic.  It’s hard not to feel like a spoiled American when I say the fridge in my kitchen only reaches some temperature in the 40’s Fahrenheit – reminds me of our Jamaica kitchen.  And the Whirlpool washing machine is less than half the size of my washer.  When it’s in its spin cycle the noise sounds like what Bruce and I call the Rocket Launch lift-off from Cape Canaveral 😊
Sarah and I compared notes about life in England vs the U. S. and life as a 19 yo vs 67; found out that we had an awful lot in common including the fact that we both traveled through Europe at 19 by ourselves.
Switching topics again… in order to function better I realized recently I need to pay attention and look at things more carefully. On the cruise-ship, I inadvertently wound up putting pepper on my food twice when I only wanted salt because the table had two peppers and I didn’t look at the shaker either time.  Today I managed the feat of putting on a jacket upside down – truly takes more skill than the reverse.  Also kept Karma in Gracie in stitches because I managed to put on a pair of shorts backwards (no way to explain myself out of that one). I am making an effort to be more methodical about where I put stuff, so I can find it again.  This is especially true in an apartment that I’ve never lived in before.
Last, the paper towels that came with the apartment and the tissues I bought at the grocery store are both so rough that I can’t tell them apart when a folded piece of either is laying on the table.  I’m the toughest!

Explore the world of real estate in the Cayman Islands
Are you looking for a place like home minus the commotion? There is only one place on Earth that can give you all these — The Cayman Islands. Whether you like the city’s liveliness or the tranquility of island living, there is something for everyone.
Tumblr media
The properties on the islands are as diverse as their neighborhoods. Every locality has its charm. There are plenty of houses for sale in the Cayman Islands, but you have to be quick and proactive because countless people are eyeing them. The slightest delay might lead to an opportunity slipping away. It is because the demand for properties far exceeds the supply.
Top Reasons to invest in the Cayman Islands’ Residential Properties.
Standardized laws across the country — The laws in the Cayman Islands are uniform all over. A law in Grand Cayman would be the same in Cayman Brac or Little Cayman.
Zero restrictions on foreign ownership — There are no restrictions on foreign ownership (for personal use). It is possible for two or more people to own a particular property. A corporation could own it too. If you own a piece of land, there is no compulsion to develop it. The government of the Cayman Islands also guarantees the right of ownership.
Organized system — The real estate sector in the Cayman Islands is highly organized. Every property out there is assigned a unique block and parcel number. Prospective buyers can look at all the records and previous transactions, restrictions on the property, etc., to ensure that they make the right decision.
Tax neutrality — If you have purchased a property for investment, no taxes apply. There are no taxes like — income tax, property tax, inheritance tax or capital gains taxes, etc.
Easy access — The Cayman Islands are close to North America. Since there are so many American and Canadian expats living in the Cayman Islands, the government has increased the number of flights and their frequency.
Permanent residency — The standard of living in the Cayman is relatively high. The country relies on tourism, offshore banking, and company incorporation to earn its revenue. Such opportunities attract people from all over the world. Foreigners who purchase real estate worth CI$1 million are eligible for citizenship, but out of that amount, at least CI$500,000 should be used towards developing real estate.
Political and economic stability — The Cayman Islands is a representative parliamentary democracy, and it has experienced zero political upheavals in the past 60 years. The value of the Caymanian dollar enjoys a higher exchange rate than that of the American dollar. This tells us a lot about the economic situation of the country. The island has plenty of excellent hospitals, supermarkets, grocery stores, schools, and everything to lead a comfortable life.
Friendly people — The Caymanians are warm and friendly. Thanks to a helpful, responsive, and proactive police department, the crime rate is also relatively low.
Variety of properties — You would be amazed by the sheer variety of properties that the Cayman Islands offers. There are plenty of houses for sale in the Cayman Islands, from high-end luxury villas, apartments, condominiums, penthouses to affordable housing. Areas like the Seven Mile Beach are on the higher end, while South Sound, Red Bay neighborhoods are best for people who desire affordable housing.
Ease of transfer — Real estate transactions in the Cayman Islands is convenient and straightforward. When both parties arrive at a decision, they sign a contract, which becomes legally binding. Each property is listed on CIREBA, the regulatory body for real estate transactions in the Cayman Islands. It ensures the legitimacy of all dealings.
Guaranteed title — The government of the Cayman Islands maintains details of land; hence insurance is irrelevant. A single land registry has the required information, and it’s open to the public. Potential buyers can access this resource and get all the requisite data related to the liens’ ownership history and records.
Great ROI — Owing to its scenic beauty, work opportunities, offshore banking, and financial services, and tourism, the Cayman Islands’ real estate industry has grown by leaps and bounds. The year 2019 witnessed a 9% increase in market transfers as compared to 2018. The total value of transfers saw a rise of 17.8%.
Privacy — The Cayman Islands is one of the most popular jurisdictions for offshore financial services, company incorporation, asset protection, etc. These banks and financial institutions hold over 1.7 trillion dollars in assets. It makes up approximately 6% of the world’s banking total banking assets. In the last 12 years, the Cayman Islands’ financial services and the banking industry have witnessed a drastic change because of the anti-money laundering legislation.
The laws protect the privacy of the property owners, though. Properties can be held in corporations and trusts, no restrictions for foreign ownership either. Ignorance and the spread of misinformation have led to the myth of the Cayman Islands being a hub for money laundering and tax evasion. The robust legal framework, strict code of ethics, transparency, and equal opportunity for all will enable organizations to build a successful business empire.
Vibrant market — The rapid growth in the Cayman Islands’ financial services and tourism industry has drawn thousands of people from various countries. It has sparked the need for the development of new real estate projects across the Islands.
Conclusion
Regardless of whether you want to purchase property for investment or as a second home in the Cayman Islands, decide based on your budget, requirements, and how long you intend to live on the Islands. Only borrow as much as you can repay. Remember to consult an attorney before signing a deal and only buy properties listed on CIREBA.
The real estate market is experiencing a lull phase right now because of the pandemic. Buyers are hesitant to enter the market, and sellers are playing the waiting game. However, this is not Cayman specific; it’s happening all over the world. All of this is just a temporary phase, and it will pass.

Few questions to ask before selecting Grand Cayman condos!
Tumblr media
Looking forward to booking Grand Cayman condos? If yes, you need to check out numerous alternatives available. Make sure you never prefer to select the condo rental that you come across first. At the time of checking out various vacation condo rentals, you need to ask some questions. By asking these questions and getting answers, you will be able to make the right choice for your vacation accommodation.
Some questions to ask before booking Grand Cayman condos are as follows:
What are the policies related to cancellation?
Before getting the booking done and processing the payment, it is one of the important questions that you need to ask. Considering taking travel insurance can be a good option for protecting your vacation. You need to know that different condo rentals will have different policies. Hence, you must compare numerous options prior to making the final choice. You must pay attention to information regarding cancellation fees and deadlines related to cancelation before making the payment.
Are the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry stocked through basic things?
You need to ask the homeowner or condo manager regarding what all items will be stocked in the condo rentals. Make sure you prepare the list of things that are not included. Once you know that some things are not included, you need to research if there is any grocery store close to the rental.
Are pets allowed on the premises of condo rental?
Do you have a pet? If yes, you would surely like to take your pet along with yourself on vacation. In that case, you need to know if the condo rental allows pets in the premises or not. Ensure you inquire about the extra prices charged for the pet and what if there is some damage due to pet. Some of the rentals have specific requirements as far as the age and breed of the pet is concerned. If the property manager or owner of Grand Cayman condos states that pets are allowed, it does not mean that all types of pets are allowed.
Will the condo rental be cleaned before arrival?
The rules and regulations of all vacation condo rentals are different. You need to clarify about the cleaning and maintenance of the condo. A majority of the vacation condo rental will charge additional fees for cleaning and maintenance. Ensure you check this before booking.
These are some of the questions that you need to ask before selecting Grand Cayman condos.

Apple Maps brings this helpful feature for users in India
Apple Maps is leaving no stones unturned to match up to Google Maps in India. Apple Maps has introduced a new “Nearby” feature for users in India just like Google Maps. How is Cayman protected from receiving counterfeit items?
How is Cayman protected from receiving counterfeit items?
Tumblr media
Would you please enquire if any sort of inspections are in place to catch counterfeit goods from entering Cayman, specifically everyday items such as dish soap and trash bags? I’m convinced that I purchased name brand items in one of our grocery stores that are clearly inferior in quality to the same brand purchased overseas. I know this a problem in the US and even with Amazon items. Is there…
