Growing up you weren’t exactly the most popular person; you weren’t disliked by any means but the whole making friends thing had never been very easy.
It didn’t help that where you worked wasn’t really your kind of place, so it tended to make you a little unmotivated.
When you moved jobs through and made some new friends things started to look up.
Iris was one of the first people you met at the company, soon enough the two of you were basically best friends.
One evening she’d invited you over for some drinks and a film at her house and it just felt so normal which you adored.
“I finally ran into Jasper earlier,” you told her as you took a sip of your drink. “Well I think it was more of he purposefully found me and then pretended to run into me.”
She groaned as she turned to face you. “Did he ask about me?”
“He told me how he knows that you want your space, but he just needs to see you,” you explained as you spoke sarcastically about her former flame.
Shaking her head, she took a sip of her wine. “He just doesn’t want to admit that I’m over him, he’s the one that got engaged to someone else.”
You rubbed her back in sympathy, she’d told you everything about her and Jasper - you had been there for the announcement of the engagement, you’d said goodbye to her when she went to America and you had been happy for her when she’d returned with Miles.
“I want to know when you’ll let me set you up with Graham,” she told you causing you to sigh.
“This is only the fifth time you’ve mentioned it this week,” you commented sarcastically. “If it goes wrong Iris then I lose my friendships and I know he’s got girls, I can’t run that risk.”
Iris rolled her eyes. “My brother runs that risk every time he dates someone, since she died, he’s only brought two girls home to Sophie and Olivia, one didn’t work because of the distance and the other because she wasn’t ready to be a step-mum.”
“And why am I so different?”
“Just trust me?”
And so, you trusted her, meaning that weekend you were going to the local pub and trying to find Iris’ brother.
You’d met him briefly before but never actually had a chance to talk to him properly.
Eventually you spotted him at one of the tables by the windows, he waved you over and you couldn’t help but smile when you saw a drink there waiting for you.
“Hey Y/N,” Graham greeted as you sat down.
Smiling, you took a sip of your drink. “Did Iris tell you my order?” you questioned out of curiosity.
“I knew it already.”
“How?”
He chuckled. “This isn’t the first time I’ve seen you in here.”
“I thought you’d say no to this whole thing.”
Shaking his head, he passed you a food menu. “I wanted to ask you out Y/N, you’re lovely but Iris wanted to do it her way.”
“We’ve only met once,” you told him.
“Technically yes, but I’ve been in this pub quite a few times when you have – never had the balls to come up to you though.”
Laughing you couldn’t help but blush at his words. “And you let your big sister do all the work?”
He shrugged. “It keeps her happy, and she agrees to babysit when she’s happy.”
“Ah so that’s who has Sophie and Olivia tonight, guess we can’t be turning up at her house drunk.”
“You do that too?” he asked sounding surprised.
You giggled but nodded in response. “Only when I don’t have the energy to find my house and hers is closer.”
“Maybe we’re more alike than I thought.”
“Maybe we are."

Little Rascals - Graham Simpkins

To begin with, the idea of being a step-mum to two amazing little girls was very unfamiliar and foreign.
After a few months, however, it did become natural for you and you were unable to even think of your life without them – and, of course, your fiancé Graham.
When the two of you had begun your relationship, you had agreed with him that you would wait a while before being introduced to Olivia and Sophie. Purely because, even though Graham was fully confident in your relationship and that he wanted to be with you, he was still cautious about his daughters forming an attachment to someone that may not always be there.
Graham had been honest with you about the girls from the very start as he didn’t want to start something with you whilst being dishonest.
He was pleasantly surprised at your response, as you told him that you simply admired him for being a single father as well as the fact that, if the time ever came, you would look forward to meeting his daughters.
When the time did come, six months into your relationship, you were beyond nervous and yet when you arrive the smile of the two girls put you completely at ease.
It had been a little over two years since that day, and you couldn’t have been happier at how things had been for you and your family.
Sophie and Olivia had gone on holiday with their Aunt Iris to Los Angeles, as Iris’ boyfriend still lived out there, so she offered to take the girls away for a little while.
The rather large house that the four of you lived in was down to just two residents for the next two weeks, and it was the strangest feeling.
You had grown accustomed to the hustle and bustle of life with the girls around but with them gone it was just so quiet.
Lazing on the sofa all day had been Graham’s idea and you certainly had no issues with it.
Your fiancé was sat with his back against the sofa and his legs stretched out, so you had decided to position yourself in-between his legs whilst leaning back against his chest.
Graham placed his chin on your head. “It’s just way too quiet without the girls around,” you mused as you pulled a blanket over you.
He chuckled at yours words. “I know Darling, you have been saying that since Iris picked them up… three days ago.”
“I just miss them,” you stated in your own defence. “Their stuff is everywhere, no giggles coming rom the playroom, no cuddles on the sofa.”
Graham laughed before kissing the top of your head. “They’re back within two weeks Darling.”
“That’s too long,” you turned around in Graham’s arms as you spoke.
He smiled at you as you placed your hands on his chest. “Sometimes it is still so strange to see you interacting with them.”
You returned his smile. “I know that I won’t ever be their actual Mum, and I would never want to replace her,” you gently explained to him. “But I love them as if they were, and I am so happy that I can be that mother figure for them.
Graham had an expression of love in his eyes, and you couldn’t help but blush under his gaze.
He leant forward to kiss you softly.
“You still manage to surprise me Darling,” he breathed out. “I love you Y/N, and thank you for accepting my two little rascals.”
Not being able to help the second blush that rose on tour cheeks, you looked down slightly with a trace of a smile on your face.
Graham reached out, placing his fingers under your chin and lifting your head up so he could look into your eyes. “How about we make another little rascal?”
