bro, Graham Rowat is such a fucking phenomenal voice actor. i will listen to any old dogshit that he's in. the world of audio dramas is pretty dominated by horror fiction, and like all types of horror media, there's a LOT of dogshit. so believe me, he's been in some real stinkers. he did a bunch of stuff for one of the more popular SCP podcasts, and i listened to all his episodes, even though the writing was painful because he's just that good. think Brad Douriff in The Exorcist III
he can do incredible things with his voice. impressive pitch range, can pour on the vocal fry like his life depends on it, always adding little tics to keep characters distinct. he has a background as a Broadway performer, iirc, so that probably accounts for how much vocal control he has. his German accent is pretty silly, but his British accent is serviceable, and he's REALLY excellent at different regional American accents. the emotion! the different screams, growls, gurgles and wet chokes! if his name is on the cast list, i'm listening to it. even if the script makes me want to rain violence down upon the writer's head, i gotta hear my boy Rowat.
#he has also been in quite a few good dramas#just to clarify#but it's horror you gotta slog through the trash to find the good stuff#graham rowat

This might be the most niche post I've ever written, but I think Graham Rowat would be perfect casting for Anafiel Delaunay.

Notes: Great 4k capture of this stunning regional production. Starts partway through Carrying the Banner. Has some issues with washout from start of filming until about The World Will Know. Otherwise, really nicely centered video, with some more wides than usual to highlight choreography. Unfortunately some loud chatter from an audience member next to me. This cast is incredible.

Hi there! I just finished a relisten of the silt verses and oh my GOD the writing is just incredible. I’ve always been blown away by the world building but on this listen I realized just how enamored I am with the way you write complex character relationships. Of course the major relationships develop naturally and beautifully but I have so much appreciation for the less central relationships (Paige and Faulkner’s dads come to mind as characters only on the show for a little while but who absolutely blew me away.)
It’s been said a million times but it’s so refreshing to follow a cast of people who are all terrible (or complicit in terrible things) in different ways. It’s such a natural extension of the worldbuilding—of course it’s near impossible to be a “good person” in a world ravaged by consumerism. I admire how it’s such a fantastical world yet even the worst of the villains feel wholly human.
Anyways I haven’t had the energy to draw for over a month now but I was so inspired by this relisten that I’ve now finished a whole art piece and I have several new ideas to work on! The imagery in tsv is so rich it’s like it wants to be drawn.
Tldr; the silt verses is my fav podcast of all time. I truly hope you feel incredibly proud of your creation. Thank you for putting something so amazing out into the world
Hey! Thank you so, so much - it's comments like these that really just make your day and make all of it feel worthwhile.
On your point about relatively minor roles, I completely agree - of course Steve Shell nails his performance as Faulkner's dad, but I also think Graham Rowat deserves a ton of praise and recognition for what he does with Dennis, and maybe he tends to get forgotten a bit because of the nature of the character.
I see a lot of people raving about the start of his character arc (hating his guts) and the end (feeling moved by him) in completely opposed ways, and I think that really speaks to Graham's brilliant range.
(Also, I think I saw your art piece of Paige and it was absolutely gorgeous! Really thrilled that the show gave you a bit of extra inspiration and thank you in turn for putting something so fantastic out into the world.)

If hell is other people, who does the Owner have to exorcise to get kicked out of paradise?
Graham at the pulpit, @manxmoss wrote chapter and verse. What's the buzz, come find out what's a-happening-on Patreon
but seriously folks, it's not like The Exorcist. I know I really made it look like it is, and with last months episode being an Alien movie thing, it's needlessly confusing but it looks prettttttyyy.
(Actual artist announcement coming soon.)
every 6 months I remember I should be cutting little clips. Since the bonus episodes are Patreon exclusives this year here's a taste for free.

who has been your favorite actor(s)/actress(es) for your brainrot blorbos?
oh this is a fun one, i am going to take a page out of rachel starlightandmusings’ book and do a wee list of characters and who their defining actor/actress is to me (except most of mine are amalgamations + also have headcanons thrown in)
jack kelly — michael ahomka lindsay, corey cott, a hint of pierre marais + george crawford (jack is very complex and i love making him a mixing pot of interpretations because that is truly how trauma be)
david jacobs — ryan kopel (london), david moscow (92)
katherine plumber — bronte barbe (london), morgan keene (tour)
racetrack — giuseppe bausilio (bway), cole zieser (tuts), josh barnett (london)
crutchie — matthew duckett (london)
morris delancey — george crawford (london), mike faist (bway)
oscar delancey — alex james-hatton (london), alex prakken (tour), hints of owen stringer (london) + brendon stimson (bway)
snyder — alex christian (london)
wiesel — jamie golding (london)
medda — aisha de haas (livesies), mireia mambo (london)
pulitzer — cameron blakely (london), graham rowat (tuts)
spot conlon — lillie-pearl wildman (london)
kid blink — trey parker (92)
mush — aaron lohr (92)
tommy boy — jack bromage (london)
albert — jacob fisher (london)
finch — damon gould (london)
elmer — joshua nkemdilim (london)
jojo — mukeni nel
and from there frankly it is probably all the uksies cast. uksies cast i love you forever. but i will always add headcanons and my own details to make it all more diverse in every way possible

(Catching up on Dracula Daily, because I’m bad with due dates. It will happen again.)
August 1
Mina’s got one hell of an amazing memory, recalling everything that Mr. Swales said. I know it’s late, but I’d love to see fanart of this scene, Swales going on and on; Mina smiling, amused and interested; and Lucy like, “Umm … not really a fan.” Poor Lucy. She just wants to hang out with her friend and enjoy the view…. And then there are these guys.
In Re: Dracula, I LOVE Lucy’s disapproving tone to Swales. I can envision her expression perfectly, like she disapproves of the immaturity and thoughtlessness. And speaking of Mr. Swales, Graham Rowat’s accent and delivery is perfect.
Also, I ADORE the musical transition from the end of Mina’s entry about Mr. Swales to the beginning of her later entry, as her thoughts turn to grief and anxiety and uncertainty. She ends her first entry almost matter-of-factly, stating how the situation with Jonathan upsets her a little. But then, in the next entry…. I love how her voice slowly drops its “I’m getting by” front as she speaks, until she’s on the verge of tears by the end. She’s not fine. She’s not just getting by. She’s enjoying hanging out with Lucy and listening to these old codgers chat … but distractions are temporary; they aren’t a solution. It’s a situation she can do nothing about besides endure. She has nothing to go on, so she can’t find out anything for herself. And it hurts. It really hurts.
Many, many kudos to Isabel Adomakoh Young for getting ALL of that across.
Another thing I really enjoy in listening to Re:Dracula is the monologues. Many classical books—Dracula included—include very long, no-breaks-no-pauses monologues. When reading with my eyes, I take most of it in at the same speed, and that makes it hard for me to translate how they would sound if spoken aloud. I appreciate how the actors in Re:Dracula take their time with them, give thoughtful pauses and tone changes, which break up the pace and lends more feeling to the words than I can get from reading it myself. It’s a beautiful translation from the page to the voiced.

Graham Rowat is one of the most amazing voice actors working today. the range he has for both the pitch of his voice and regional accents alone is impressive. but that delivery! he's been hired a few times to read for the SCP podcast, and even though the script itself is middling-to-poor, i'll find myself actually enjoying it based on his voice work alone.
that's gravitas, baby. that's power.
#i have no one to talk to about this in real life bc no one consumes as much audio fiction as i do#so i will instead be posting my audio drama opinions here#graham rowat#voice acting#blog

Extended credits for Museum at Tomorrow episode 5
Below the cut are all of the folks who I used (and asked to be credited) for recordings in Museum at Tomorrow episode 5- specifically, the "This is not for You" recordings.
(The list was too long for podcast episode descriptions)
These recordings were mixed into the soundscape of the show, heavily processed- so you may or may not be able to pick out your voice. Each unique recording is preserved as rhythem, timber, and shape within the episode.
Thank you for your work in creating the canvas of this piece.
