At first you thought he wouldn’t even remember about it. After all you are in a spaceship million and millions of miles away from earth. Does Valentines Day even exist here? Therefore, you were more than surprised to find Quill standing in front of you with a little gift in his hands, wrapped in some simple paper, looking at you with a snug smirk and puppy eyes. “Okay, how did you mess up this time?” You ask a little confused, which makes him only chuckle softly. “I didn’t mess up. In fact, I think I’m doing something right for once” His smirk gets even bigger as he walks over to you and pulls you into a hug, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “I love you” he whispers into your year before handing you the little gift. As you open the gift it turns out to be a little cassette – Happy Valentines Day” Mix Vol. 1. You look up surprised, he really remembered that day? Without another word he happily takes the cassette from you again and puts it into a music player. He starts to dance to it, a little out of track, and with a high-pitched voice he sings “I can’t stop this feeling, deep inside of me. Girl you just don’t realize, what you do to me” You can’t help but giggle as he pulls you in and the two of you start to dance together do the songs all night long.

some sad thoughts about the guardians of the galaxy

Rocket didn’t understand why Groot wanted to sacrifice himself in GOTG vol1 

Rocket lost all his friends (minus Nebula) twice. 

Nebula had to watch Peter grieve Gamora after she had been grieving for five years. 

Gamora never said goodbye to anyone but Peter. 

Mantis knew Gamora died before anyone else because she could feel Thanos’s grief.

Nebula and Rocket lived in their ship alone, with all their dead friends things. 

Gamora knew her time with the guardians wouldn’t last forever because she knew where the soul stone was, and that she had to die to keep it out of Thanos’s reach.

Peter was the last thing Gamora wanted to see before she died. 

Gamora sacrificed the universe to save Nebula. But Thanos sacrificed her for his own personal gain. 

Drax probably had no friends before he became a guardian. 

Peter went to see his mother’s grave with his grandpa on earth. 

Rocket and Nebula had their own funerals for their friends before the blip, then put on one for Gamora for the others when they came back. 

Rocket was with strangers for 23 days before Tony and Nebula came to earth. 

Peter didn’t want to be with new Gamora, he just wanted the woman he loved back. 

New Gamora never experienced Nebula’s “I just wanted a sister!” argument. 

Teenage Groot lost his mother. 

Thanos took away Drax’s wife Ovette, his daughter Kameria, and then his friend Gamora. 

Peter and the guardians lived on Knowhere, the last place Peter saw Gamora alive.

Are there any characters from the comics you would add or take out of any of the 3 movies?

I haven’t read a ton of the comics, need to read more of them…is there anything you hated that was stripped from the characters transferring to the MCU or that was added that wasn’t in the comics?

like most teams, there are sooo many gotg members in the comics that it’s silly and you literally can’t have everyone in a 2hr movie. it would be terrible. that being said, there are staples of the team/people allied with the team who the movies chose to introduce later/haven’t introduced at all (adam, mantis, phyla, heather, cosmo, rich etc.). however when you acknowledge that yes, it’s a two hour movie, and you have finite time to introduce characters and get people invested, the core team in vol1 makes sense to me (pete, gamora, drax, rocket, groot). they’re all dynamic and distinct characters that leave a strong impression. it would be nice to have more women in the movie (mantis could have been squeezed in somehow!) but as it stands they’re a strong line up.

i do find vol 2 quite… self-indulgent?? for gunn. if we’re specifically talking about it as a comic adaptation, he started developing things that don’t have any real basis in the comics. it’s a good movie, don’t get me wrong, but he very much did his own thing with it. god damn adam should have been introduced in this one. so i guess my point is that I would have introduced a lot of characters earlier but the ramifications of that would be so messy, that fixing them would result in films unrecognisable from the ones we have!

in terms of changes, the characters in the comics are much more morally ambiguous. peter, for example, isn’t incarcerated for being a thief. he’s a mass murderer (that doesn’t sound morally grey, but in context it is haha) who turned himself in. at first, the team are concerned that he sees them as totally expendable. he’s doing suicide runs. he’s that stressed out about the guardians possibly failing that he makes mantis tamper with their minds to make them want to stay. he has a “somebody needs to do it so why not me” mentality that when written well makes him such an interesting character to follow. i do hate the movie choice to make him a womaniser! just cause it’s so… tired. he’s a lonely little freak <3

a movie example too is that gamora is much harsher; vol. 3 “mean” gamora, for example, is basically truer to comic gamora haha. it’s true that the guardians is the thing that gives her a purpose and saves her life! but her overall attitude about it all is quite different.

to me the movies are an alternate universe and one that’s fun to holiday in but in the end i like to go home to 616 where all the rest of the gang is cause i miss them and their ridiculous shenanigans.

So I thought to myself I'd prepare for Wednesday and spend both today and tomorrow watching every bit of Guardians content Disney+ has to offer. I started with the Marvel Legends first and got a little too emotional with the Drax, Gamora, Quill, and Rocket ones... And as soon as I got a minute in to GOTG VOL1, the tears started again.

Yeah... I don't think I'm going to survive Wednesday. It's not that I'm not ready to say goodbye, I just don't think I can live through seeing any of them die again.

And the timings of the music are just impeccable, all throughout the 3 movies, the songs are used PERFECTLY. It just adds so much more meaning to the scenes, like the only time the og gotg theme plays during rockets fight scene. Or the father and son at the end of vol2 or even creep right at the beginning, pointing to how rocket had been treated in his life before he met his family in guardians. And obviously come and get your love at the starting of vol1 and at the ending in vol3, signifying the end of guardians as we know it. Just brilliant.

And the music choices are top tier we all agree to that. Amen.

the way the gotg movies use music is *chefs kiss* in lots of ways, but specifically in gotg 3: that scene where the high evolutionary is with young rocket and he compares his mission to making music. he calls it sacred, says the point is to "take the cacophony of sounds around us and turn it into song." and while hes saying this, high classical music is playing, a song thats allegedly thousands of years old and belongs in a ballroom or an opera house.

then theres the music that the guardians listen to, usually rock. and the music that rocket specifically listens to is emo/nu-metal. Creep by Radiohead. songs that are about ugliness and not fitting in. and in the mid credits scene where hes discussing favorite artists with the new guardians, they mention names like korn and king crimson. music that doesnt seek to tame any cacophony of sound but is characterized by it.

it's far from the same kind of music that the high evolutionary was talking about. but it's still music. it perfectly illustrates the flaw in the high evolutuonary's vision: he wants to make a perfect universe, compose the perfect song. but theres more than one kind of music, and even loud, messy music can still be loved

Gamora Finding Out What Cuddling Is

You and Gamora have been together for a while now.

One day she was just walking around when she heard Quill and Drax talking about the two of you.

“Meh, i don’t know man. I just can’t picture Gamora being soft.” “Can you imagine them cuddling?” “Mhm, nope”

Gamora being confused ‘cause what is cuddling?

You notice the confused expression on her face

“What’s up?”

Tries to hide her confusion because she doesn’t wanna get embarrassed in front of you for not knowing what cuddling is.

You keep asking her what she’s thinking though and she eventually tells you.

She can’t keep anything from you anyway

You smile at how adorable you find her question and laugh a little.

“Hey! Don’t laugh at me!” “I’m not making fun of you it’s just- cute.”

Gamora remembering how she has never been called cute in her life before.

She eventually finds out what it is but is still genuinely confused.

“So it’s a hug?”

Couple of days later y’all go on a mission.

You come back pretty tired and so is Gamora.

You put an arm around her as she gently rested her head on your chest, listening to your heartbeat.

“Is this cuddling?” “Yeah, it is.”

Silence.

“We should do it more often.” Gamora said before she fell asleep in your arms.

no movie licence is as good as the guardians of the galaxy in terms of color meaning and color continuity. it's honestly so clever and well done, i could analyze it for hours.
