I want to go back to gorya.

she has put up with a lot of bullshit from thyme, so when he shows up ASKING questions in a public place about her and causes a scene, she KNOWS this could end up in the press. he is famous, remember?

she also needs to deter him from this self-destructive path he is on, by clinging on to her. the only way she can get him to stop worrying about her, fretting about the company she keeps; if she pushes him away ONE LAST time.

she says we are nothing to each other.

even though it couldn't be further away from truth. she can't stop thinking about him. she considers herself as lita's one and only friend and as such she takes her duty seriously. yes it's inconsolably stupid of her.

you know what? thyme didn't even hit talay, my client got played.

but this is the thing with the boy who cried wolf. thyme has been aggressive in front of her so many times, of course she believes talay.

this is her second mistake of not trusting him, which corresponds with Elizabeth's prejudice against Darcy.

worst of all, talay is not her guy. so none of his suspicions about her are even justified.

Absolutely, 100%, none of them are okay. Ren is just extremely passive, and even if he disagrees with what's going on, he prefers walking away rather than voicing whatever objections he might have. Gorya clings to him because he's the only F4 member who shows a bit of humanity towards her, but she should be furious with all of them.

Only one episode in, but I'm really digging this adaptation.

I love the way they introduce the F4 here. It’s not walking through the hallways adored - they are still adored and girls are still screaming - as they walk to beat the hell out of an innocent kid and ruin his life. Ooof.

Domyouji (called Thyme in this version) clothing taste is appropriately awful. Those clashing leopard prints are as big a crime as his bullying club. But also, I have never seen this actor in anything (I know he became famous due to 2gether which was a huge hit of a BL series, but I don’t do college fluff, not my thing) but I love him for this role. He’s got the great “psycho who would knife you for kicks” vibe.

Seriously, he is THE WORST! And it’s glorious. No studious bridge player here.

In the Japanese version, the look on his face was one of boyish wonder, he legit looked like an intimidated kid (even remembering the voice of his sister).

None of that here, I see. Thyme goes all "nice, you may sit on my face anytime", which is quite amazing for a guy who didn't even receive his first kiss yet.

Jdrama remains the sole version where they had the balls to have Domyouji be the one who was OK with attempted rape as a means of having her give up. (I read, not sure how true, that initially the mangaka had Domyouji be the villain and Rui get the girl but changed her mind; not sure how true but it would explain why there were no stops to early manga Domyouji.) But even in this nicer version, he is literally drowning a dude because he’s pissed about it (his friends have to get him out of there) AND complaining Ren interfered with the attempted rape. Clearly his annoyance at it didn’t prevent him being pissed someone stopped it. What a horrible trashfire he is!

In the original manga, I always got the sense that if he didn’t fall for Makino, no matter how wealthy and powerful and connected his family was, Domyouji would have ended up either in a psych ward, jail or dead, the way he was going. If Mama had any sense, she’d have welcomed Makino with open arms tbh.

But also, this is a huge backing down for “you look at me cross and I end you, no second chances” psycho that is his default.

He's so incredibly stupid that I can't help but have a soft spot for him. I remember reading the makeover scene in the manga for the first time, and being all like "oh my God, he's trying to make amends in a very backwards, completely lacking in common sense way". And it's even more extraordinary considering that only in the previous episode, his own friends were all like "who would dare to stand up to him?" And not only does Gorya/Makino do exactly that, but she's even starting to influence his behaviour, even this early on.

It's like she sucks the joy out of every place she steps in. Quite extraordinary in its own twisted way, to be sure - but no wonder he ended up the way he did, with such a parental figure.

Only Domyouji/Thyme would decide a great way to woo a woman is kidnapping her or that a great way to give someone a make over is kidnapping her like some demented Fairy Godmother!

He is, in his dim way, trying to seek a way out of the situation he created and deescalate, even if in a way that protects his pride (the progression of his narrative is from someone who doesn’t even see her as a person, to someone who wants to treat her well as long as he gets what he wants to someone who always puts her first. Mmmm, romance tropes!)

I love how extra he is in this version. Buying an entire bus so that he can go with her to school? Blasting his date invitation to the entire school? He really can't do normal stuff. I love it though.

And it's great how by this point she's really not scared of any of them any longer, and instead bosses Thyme around on a constant basis.

I have never felt much for Domyouji x Rui bond in any adaptation outside of the Japanese one but this was cute.
