Rookie-Critic's Top 25 Films of 2022: Honorable Mentions - Argentina, 1985 (dir. Santiago Mitre)
Tumblr media
I know next to nothing about Latin/South American history, so imagine my surprise that as recently as the 1980s, Argentina was under fascist rule. Argentina, 1985 seeks to educate the world (which is going through something of a fascist uprising at the moment) about how horrible it was, and how hard it was to put the people responsible for numerous human rights violations during the fascist regime behind bars, even after a democratic government had replaced it. at 140 minutes long, this is a film that never once feels its length, and never once misses a beat. I honestly could have done with even more. This one is just an all-around highly well-made courtroom drama, and an educational one, at that.
Currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Read my wrap-up review of Argentina, 1985 here.

Find the Word
tagged by @lynnedwardswrites to find assistant, throat, and two! thank!
from The Black & Blues!
assistant help:
Sara clears her throat. “We’re together. The three of us. But not like. In a sexual way. Or even a romantic way. We… we’re all aroace. And we just. It’s not like siblings but it’s closer than best friends. It’s hard to explain to someone who doesn’t get it.”
You push your coffee to the side and rest your elbows on the table.
“Explain it to me, then,” you say gently. “We have all night.”
So they do.
Apparently being ace means no sexual attraction, and being aro means no romantic attraction, and being aroace means both. You don’t really get it, but they’re happy, and they clearly care about each other, and it’s not your business anyway. But you can see why they were so hesitant to talk about it, especially when Sara says,
“Like, everyone expects you to grow up and get into a monogamous marriage and sleep with your spouse and pop out babies and like. I don’t want any of those things. I want an apartment or a house with my two guys, and we can foster cats and dogs, and take each other to the doctor or the airport, or pick each other up from work, or go grocery shopping together, or help each other file taxes, or volunteer with the park district.”
And you’ve never heard anything more reasonable than that. Just because you can’t imagine yourself without romance or sex for the rest of your life doesn’t mean that’s what everyone has to want.
throat:
You have an audition to watch even though all you want to do is curl up with a tub of Rice Dream and cry. So you get up, and you and Danny turn your backs to each other to get dressed, like you always have. And he wishes you both a good day and gives you a fistbump like he always has. And he asks if you want to stop for coffee first, because you have the time, like he always has.
By the time you’ve gotten your coffee and made it to the performance room you’ve been loaned, you’re starting to feel a little better. You’re still heavy and sad. But the knots in your throat and stomach have loosened a bit, and you can breathe without feeling like every exhale is going to be a sob.
two:
Josephine follows Morgan up to the stage, where they put their instruments together. Morgan chatters at Josephine in gentle small talk you can’t quite make out. Josephine’s shoulders are tight, and her brow is, too.
“Josephine,” Danny says gently. Her head snaps up.
“It’s okay. You’ve been playing, what, a decade? I’m sure you’ll be great.”
“Thanks,” she says softly. She has a very pretty voice, soft and lilting.
Once they’ve put their instruments together and tuned, Morgan and Josephine share a look. Josephine nods toward the five of you and Morgan nods at her, and he says, All right, well. We figured, since there’s two of us, we’d each play solo, and then do a duet. That way you can hear us both ways. That sound good?”
You glance around at the other four, and, once everyone nods, you turn back to them and say, “Sounds good. Who’s going first?”
“I will,” Morgan says. “This is the trumpet solo from Sofrito, written by Mongo Santamaria, as played and improvised by Yuliesky Gonzalez, transcribed to the best of my ability. Uh, by me. Morgan Acosta-Benitez. It’s pretty short, so I hope that’s all right. Okay.”
He takes a deep, steadying inhale, counts under his breath, and begins.

Bojack Horseman: Season Two (2015)
Format: Animated TV series.
Director: Amy Winfrey, J.C. Gonzalez, Mike Hollingsworth, Mike Roberts, Matt Mariska.
Writers: Raphael Bob-Waksberg (who is also the show’s creator), Peter Knight, Mehar Sethi, Joe Lawson, Joanna Calo, Vera Santamaria, Kelly Galuska, Alison Flieri, Scott Chernoff, Elijah Aron, Jordan Young,
Is J.K. Simmons in this? Yes. He drops out for a big chunk in the middle, but he is in it.
Who does he portray? As far as I can tell, he continues to just portray anthropomorphic turtle and studio executive Lenny Turtletaub.
What does he do? He spends most of the season telling other people what to do (which makes sense, since he’s a movie executive and this season centres around the production of a movie).
How bald is he? He continues to deny the reality that turtles cannot grow full heads of hair and wear a hairpiece. Kinda sad, really.
Is anybody else in this? Oh, definitely. There are even some animals in it (although how they got the animals to speak English I don’t understand).
Is it worth seeing if I’m not a J.K. Simmons completist? Oh, absolutely. It always amazes me how deftly this show navigates between deft social satire, serious deconstruction of personal flaws, and animal puns.

Messi có giúp Argentina trở lại con đường chiến thắng? Đội hình thi đấu Peru: Gallese, Corzo, Santamaria, Trauco, Abram, Yotun, Cueva, Carrillo, Aquino, Flores, Papadula. Argentina: Armani, Quarta, Tagliafico, Montiel, Paredes, De Paul, Messi, Otamendi, Lo Celso, Gonzalez, Martinez.

Thắng trận nhẹ nhàng, Arentina tiếp tục đứng thứ 2 trên bảng xp hạng vòng loại World Cup 2022 khu vực Nam Mỹ.
