Mens Style Review 2018
Year after year, the fashion world sees innovative trends. In 2018, there are a number of brand fresh concepts that you'll need to bear in mind. This season, there are a variety of contemporary trends to keep in mind.In particular, you’ll notice that all the way through 2018, styles have changed and focused on a number of upgrades that you will not even fully grasp you have been already making use of.As such, you might want to take note of the year's most common designs. Beginning in the spring, men’s fashion turned white-colored. That's right, the all white colored, country clubhouse alternatives are now the standard, and that's something you should truly think about. The all white country clubhouse look is becoming grand central. Bright white tee shirts, shorts, socks, white shoes, either in the tennis court, golf course, or maybe lounging in the sun. Irrespective of the special occasion, you'll find that all white is all right. Wearing Pink Pink? Really? Don't write it off. Going with a pastel pink coupled with white is often a powerful look. It offers a certain definite, self-assured physical appearance, the contrast being so effective. No matter whether it is a pink t-shirt, pink sweater or pink polo top, pink is definitely the go-to pastel colour of the year. Vertical Stripe Shirts Striped tops are back in.Broader stripes tend to be highly effective, making the person seem leaner and stylish. The vertical stripe element here's usually combined with a solid colour, including blues, whites, and also contrasts that balance out the stripe point.Stay away from thin off-trend lines in 2018. 80s colour pop An additional exciting trend being seen in men’s fashion is found within the realm of the 1980's.The 80s color pop consists of harmonizing brilliant blues, black, and trainers.Obvious enough eh?Straightforwardness personified - the 1980s style.Several alternatives are oversized, not really form hugging, and also intended for the great outdoors, providing you with a trendy look and feel. Earthy tones Soulful natural shades are the style for the second 1 / 2 of 2018.Earthy tones suit the majority of men's wardrobes, proceeding in to the Fall months. The last two seasons of the year will certainly embrace these earthy tones in the face of cold temperatures.Who can keep from endulging the autumn colours of gold colored yellows, strong oranges, vibrant crimsons and seedy browns in any wardrobe collection.Use layers, simply because layering enables hues and tones to enhance each other effectively. That's the brief overview of trends with regard to 2018.They are this season's standard, and easy to embrace, in the event that you haven't already. Whether you want to look great, or you want to stand out, all of these work in 2018 and could very well work in 2019.

Best Golf Balls for Fall
Welcome to Golferwatch, your number one source for all things about golf items such as golf cart, bags, clubs, everything related to golf. We’re dedicated to providing you the very best information and tips related to golf along with the very best of golf equipment, from various sellers with an emphasis on amazon, golfer watch, aliexpress.
Golferwatch was founded by a couple of amateur golfers with a passion for golf in 2019. Our goals is to make Golf more affordable and demystify the game as much as possible. We work hard to provide meaningful content and information about the game of golf at large. Hopefully you will find out and discover that we deeply care about the future sustainability and popularity of golf and will do what we can to spread the word. For the golf lessons in your life, a golf gift is a no-brainer, right? After all, what other sport or hobby has the plethora of gear that golf has? From clubs to balls, trinkets to trash, shirts to shoes, there is no shortage of golf-themed gifts.
Especially as we approach the holiday season all around the world, especially for golfers like myself and my community , there is nothing more delightful and joyful then giving and receiving golf accessories, golf equipment and lessons for Christmas. Obviously, this depends on the relative experience of the person being considered-if it’s a novice husband or a precocious daughter or a veteran grandparent – the present will obviously vary. At golfer watch, we’ve taken stab at reviewing the various presents that can work for most situations.
A bit of pop psychology here – remember, like in most other things, in Golf too, it’s more about demonstrating that you can support and see what they are trying to do. You can be frugal or ostentatious or get really over the top presents – but it’s important to demonstrate that you can see them as a person trying to do this game better. That’s what counts more than anything else.
You are putting all your golf equipment in your car to drive to the nearest golf course and you made sure that you have looked at all the Irons, the Drivers, the balls, and the gloves. But you forgot something that is going to leave a very jarring experience to your much anticipated golf game.

It only took a few hours of driving with no radio for our group to bond over inappropriate jokes. In the midst of one our laughing fits, we saw a blur of a building, when we yelled “PRADA!” in unison.
We spent five days exploring the best things to do in West Texas. It was enough to touch on the hot spots, but like most of our trips, it helped us feel out what we want to do when we revisit. Since we love our parks, we were most excited to explore Big Bend National Park. What we didn’t know was how much we would fall in love with the other areas of West Texas.

All the Best Stops on the Ultimate West Texas Road Trip
Whether you’re into the great , art scene, food, or history & culture, there’s something for everyone.
  El Paso
We started and ended our trip on the very west tip of Texas in El Paso. El Paso is located in one of the largest deserts in North America, the Chihuahuan Desert, and the city sits right along the border with its neighboring international city, Juarez. There are so many Spanish speaking folks in El Paso that you might want to brush up on your Spanish. We had one cab driver that only spoke Spanish, which made for a fun and scenic ride.
Recommended Length of Stay: 3-5 days
one of the sunniest cities in the US (and the world) with roughly 300 sunny days a year.
Things to Do, See, & Eat
Franklin Mountains State Park – This is the largest urban park in the US. There are some great hikes, and you can also do guided hiking tour of old mines (make a reservation via their website).
El Paso Museum of Art – This is a free museum that carries a collection from the surrounding area featuring artists from both El Paso and Juarez. They have special exhibitions and a permanent collection.
Street Art – Even if you don’t stop by the museum, you should walk the area to see all the street art and murals.
Hueco Tanks State Park – Located about 45 minutes outside of El Paso is a giant playground for climbers. Even if you don’t climb, it’s a unique and beautiful landscape to hike through.
L&J Cafe – This local landmark has been around since 1927. Most visitors and locals in El Paso will point you to L&J for delicious Tex-Mex fare.
Salt + Honey Bakery & Cafe – Cute shop with delicious food and drink. Be sure to try the Salt + Honey everything, but especially the fries.
Taft & Diaz – Located in the Stanton House hotel, this upscale restaurant has a rotating menu. Don’t forget to look up, as there’s an art installation above you that dances from time to time.
Stanton House is a brand new, chic hotel. They have a great rooftop that gives you a view across the border, an art gallery inside, and beautiful rooms to make you feel at home. Click here to see more reviews and best prices for all hotels in the area.
Fort Davis
Fort Davis is set amongst the Davis Mountains, which is a sky island. The term refers to the fact that it’s an isolated mountain range surrounded by desert. With the highest elevation above sea level and cooler weather in Texas, it’s a favorite getaway amongst locals.
Recommended Length of Stay: 2-3 days
Things to Do, See, & Eat
Davis Mountains State Park – Don’t miss the views from Skyline Drive. There are a few spots to check out – the peak is ideal for sunset and the end of the road is a great spot for sunrise.
McDonald Observatory – Gaze up at the stars from one of the darkest skies in the US. They have daily tours and hold Star Parties too.
Fort Davis National Historic Site – One of the best surviving examples of an Indian Wars’ frontier military post. Keep an eye out for the resident horses and goat that freely roam in the area.
Davis Mountain Scenic Loop – This 75-mile drive takes you through some of the best scenery in west Texas. It takes roughly two hours.
Fort Davis Drug Store & Hotel – serves food, drinks, and sells small supplies.
Stone Village Market – A local market frequented by the residents and tourists. They also serve sandwiches made to order.
Herbert’s Caboose Ice Cream Shop – An ice cream shop built into an old caboose.
Indian Lodge – This picturesque hotel is tucked right into the mountains of Davis Mountains State Park. The white buildings beautifully contrast against the backdrop. There is a lot of history in this hotel and makes for a great home base. Click here to see more reviews and best prices for all hotels in the area.
Big Bend
Big Bend is made up of small communities, like Terlingua Ghost Town, Lajitas, and Study Butte, and is known for Big Bend National Park and State Park. It’s named after the huge curve/bend in the Rio Grande and sits at the southern border of the state.
Recommended Length of Stay: 3-5 days
Things to Do, See, & Eat
Big Bend National Park – This is the obvious highlight of the region, and there are three distinct landscapes: river, desert, and mountains.
Grapevine Hills Trail / Balanced Rock – This 2.2 mi round trip hike takes you to our favorite landscape in the park. Besides Balanced Rock, it has lots of other boulders to hop around on. Keep in mind that you have to drive 6 miles on a dirt road to the trailhead. We were able to take a huge van and small sedan but had to take it slow. Also, watch out for the greater earless s, they are rainbow colored s and there were a lot of them on the trail.
Langford Hot Springs – A short 0.5 mile round trip hike takes you to a historic hot springs located at the Rio Grande.
Santa Elena Canyon – See one of the most iconic spots in the park. You can even get a backcountry use permit to paddle upstream and back.
Chisos Basin Loop – Gives you a great mini-tour of the Chisos Mountains. Do the loop counter-clockwise to get the best views.
Big Bend Ranch State Park – The rugged volcanic landscape sits just west of Big Bend National Park.
Terlingua Ghost Town – Home to the world’s first Chili Cook Off, and they still hold the event every year. You can explore a historic church, a beautiful cemetery, and meet the locals (and ghosts) that frequent the area.
Stand Up Paddle Boarding at the Lajitas Golf Resort – This resort has an 18-hole golf course and 4-star hotel, but it’s also where the local guides can take you SUPing along the Rio Grande.
Starlight Theatre Restaurant & Saloon – One of the liveliest spots in town, they have live music and a wide selection of food. Get yourself a marg and thank me later.
Taqueria el Milagro – We stumbled across this spot on a night when everything else was closed. They graciously stayed open a little later for us and had AMAZING tacos.
Expresso Y Poco Mas – Local coffee and breakfast spot. Everyone seemed to know each other.
La Kiva Restaurant & Bar – We were supposed to eat here, but they happened to close early. It’s the nicer spot to eat in town.
Perry Mansion. We all got extremely excited when we pulled up to Perry Mansion. It just recently ropened after a renovation and only has 7 rooms. Great for a big group if you want the place all to yourself. Click here to see more reviews and best prices for all hotels in the area.
Marfa
We didn’t know much about Marfa besides the Prada art installation, which we learned isn’t actually in the town of Marfa. When we heard it was an artsy community we pictured desert art, like Salvation Mountain, but instead we found a slice of NYC in West Texas.
Recommended Length of Stay: 2-3 days
Things to Do, See, & Eat
Ballroom Marfa – Their current show features contemporary artists we first saw at MoMa PS1 in NYC.
Presidio County Courthouse & The Central Fire Station – Beautiful and picturesque buildings right next to each other.
Chinati Foundation – We didn’t make it here on this trip, but you can see amazing contemporary art pieces here. From what we can gather from photos, it looks like a combination of Noguchi Museum and Storm King.
The Marfa Lights – At night you can spot mysterious lights that dance in the darkness south of US 90 between Alpine & Marfa. No one knows what they really are, and there are plenty of theories out there. Ask the locals to see what you can find out.
Prada Marfa – This is the most popular photo of Marfa on Instagram. This art installation is about 30 minutes from the city.
Pizza Foundation – Yummy pizza with indoor and outdoor seating. It gets busy on the weekends so call in early to put your order in.
Planet Marfa – Amazing local bar with a teepee and school bus on the property. Great place to meet locals and end the night.
Hotel Paisano – This historic hotel is centrally located and has GIANT memorabilia all over the place. Click here to see more reviews and best prices for all hotels in the area.

Essential Tips
Once you drive out to the smaller towns and regions, keep in mind that restaurants and shops close early and don’t necessarily keep their hours. If you plan on being out after sunset shooting, have a plan for your meals.
West Texas varies in temperatures since the elevation changes so much. During our May trip, we saw highs in the 90s and lows in the 40-50s, so always pack layers.
Regardless of where you are, you’ll be doing some walking so bring comfortable walking shoes. Here are our suggestions for best sandals for .
Water & sunscreen are a must. Sunglasses and a hat help too.
Outside of El Paso, WIFI and cell service are limited. Even places that have wifi are really spotty. Prepare to unplug.
If you’re in an older car, bring an aux cable so you can listen to music in the car. You’re going to have trouble finding it on the road. Also, if you need some tunes, check out our ultimate cross country road trip playlist.

Best Places to Stay in West Texas
El Paso:  Stanton House
Fort Davis: Indian Lodge
Terlingua / Big Bend: Perry Mansion
Marfa: Hotel Paisano or El Cosmico if you want to glamp in a teepee, yurt or RV. I personally would save glamping for fall / spring weather.

Best Golf Cart Bags in 2019
We all know that golf cart bags are very much important for any type of golfer. When it’s time to buy golf bags it's important to know what actually buying. You must read some reviews about golf bags so that you can know actually what features your desired golf bags have. One of the basic things is the transportation and storage of cheap golf bags. Actually, you can also have some great timing with the best golf cart bags. Golf cart bags can easily carry your all golf clubs and all your equipment you need in a golf tournament.
Before you buy your golf cart bags make sure your bags have sufficient storage to carry all your gears. You will definitely in need of 14 clubs to carry in the course. So you have to make it possible. Then you have to think about the gears that will go with you on the course. Your water bottle, your extra dress, your rangefinders, clubs, shoes, balls, etc. before you pay the USD to the shop owner you should check several times whether the bags are carrying your storage or not.
Tumblr media
Usually, golf cart bags are carried by carts. Carts will allow you to walk and drive both. Some golfers are never fond of walking cause they just love to take some rest or driving. So the manufacturer made the golf cart bags where you can easily carry your golf bags in carts. Golf cart bags are big so that you can easily carry your all gears with yourself.
I have seen some sun mountain golf cart bags which are classical and also affordable for anyone. Sun mountain is one of the best golf bags manufacture company producing such great golf cart bags every year. They are making the golf bags according to the golfers choice, taste, their budget and also according to the golf tournament. You can also check the article of mine written about sun mountain golf cart bags.
You can also have a look at Taylor made golf cart bags. each and every golf player knows the Taylor made company which is too much popular in the golf industry. Whether it is 2017 or 2019 Taylor made best golf cart bags are famous as always. Have smartphones ruined the way we watch live sport?
It is obvious that the use of smartphones has resculpted the way we live our daily life. Despite the limitless possibilities that come about by having a smartphone in the palm of your hand, the most recent Profesional Golf Accossiation tournaments have been a brilliant example to illustrate just how much they have affected our behavior. Picture being a golf fan, now imagine you have the dream opportunity to watch the best golfer at work, Tiger Woods. Well, the first image below shows this, everything looks as you would expect it to. The spectators are paying close attention and keeping their eyes on the great man at work.
Tumblr media
This picture was captured way back during the 2002, British Open. A large five years before Apple released their first iPhone in 2007, coincidence right? Now fast forward to the most recent Professional Golfers Accossiation tournament, May 2019. Heres another image which captures Tiger in his usual settings, hitting a golf ball with a large crowd of spectators behind him. All eyes and cellphones are on him as he would look to bounce back after playing his ball out the rough. On the back of his heels it shows woods has entered a sea of fans and smartphones, so what's the difference between the 2002 era of live sport watching and the modern day? It's pretty clear, people now feel the urge to record things on their phone, perhaps to share on social media, but is this right? Is anyone actually enjoying the moment? Or are they all simply watching what’s right in front of them, but through a phone?
Tumblr media
You will see these trends everywhere around you, the majority of live events from rock concerts to the Superbowl all have one thing in common..A sea of smartphones - better than a sea of lighters I guess, from a safety point of view... People recording the greatest sporting moments on their cell phones has become a popular occurrence as of late. No longer is there the odd moment shared between sportsman and spectator, as the majority of fans have made a choice to view the event from behind their phone's camera. Could it be said that recording the performance is disrupting the connection between the performer and the audience? Or is it no harm? While recording any type of live performance is done to keep the memory alive, it has prompted people to under-appreciate the value of what makes a live event so unique and special (Mobile Industry Review, 2019). That extra level of excitement that live sport should bring can never reach its full potential when holding up a smartphone to record the moment, as it creates a wall between yourself and the performer. It creates a sort of barrier that protects the audience member from connecting with the artist and it could be said that this is ruining the live sport for both the fan and the competitor.
Tumblr media
The idea is to put yourself in the shoes of your all-time favorite athlete who you are dying to go see in person. Now imagine being Tiger, setting up this whole live experience in your head: endless preparation, knackering training sessions and practicing for the tournament you’ve been waiting to compete in for months. Now, you look into the audience, anxiously waiting for them to share this moment with you. But instead of connecting eyes with the fans who are there to cheer for you and witness you perform at your best, you find yourself alone on the course. You are faced not with their astounded eyes, but instead, with a glow of smartphone cameras... Is this the kind of interaction you were hoping for, I highly doubt it.

Road trip to Tahiti
Saturday, March 2, 2019
We decided last night that we will make the drive down to Monterey. The weather might not cooperate, we’ll make the best of it. Five of us, plus dog, pile into the car and head south from San Francisco.  Our first stop is the Folktale Winery. There is a very light mist in the air. That doesn’t seem to bother the many people sitting outside enjoying their wine. As we approach the entrance we are welcomed with a glass of bubbly wine. We have a choice of doing a tasting of 5 kinds of wine, ordering by the glass or the bottle. Muzi, Mallory & Michelle opt for the tasting, Tom chooses a glass of full bodied red, and I stick with the bubbly. Just bring the bottle please. We ordered some cheese, meats, roasted nuts, and breads. Just then, then rain started to really come down. Quickly everyone picked up and moved indoors. We got a priority for seating since we were waiting for food. Having the dog could have been a problem. I grabbed my bucket of wine and headed inside. I found myself behind a huge great dane puppy. It was about 6 times taller than Dylan, so I guess dogs are allowed! We settled around a quant carved wood table and continued enjoying our wine, food, and conversation.

We continued on to Monterey, the Cannery Row area. We walked around the very cute town. There was a fish restaurant on the center of the plaza selling clam chowder, which we sampled. The rain started up again, so we left the sea otters and seals playing on the beach and had another glass of wine at Carmel Ridge wine shop. This time, we hid Dylan in her carrier, until we saw the German Shepard enjoying the wine shop company.
Tumblr media
Our hotel was the Monterey peninsula hotel. Three beds were waiting for us. That last glass of wine didn’t agree with me. Too much acid, and I was feeling it.  I decided to skip dinner and stay back at the hotel with Dylan. My request was to bring me back some Chocolate Milk. I took my acid reflux medication, put my feet up, and watched Rick Steves the rest of the night.  We never did make it to the outdoor hot tub, not much fun in the rain.
Sunday, March 3, 2019 Our hotel offers a continental breakfast. Mallory was sure that meant dry cereal so she found a place for a proper brunch. When I went to check out, I found the selection of pastries looked fresh and tasty. There was fresh fruit, coffee, juice.  It would have been enough for me. Instead we drove to Crema, who’s logo shirts all say “Find your happy place”. I remember seeing the same logo in Cuba. We left the dog in the car this time. We could hear her barking for us as we walked the 2 blocks to the restaurant. Returning, we found her sleeping on the front seat.
Tumblr media
We head to the Monterey entrance of the 17 mile drive. There is a $10 charge per car full to drive the 17 winding miles through Pebble Beach Golf Resort to Carmel.  We drove along the golf course which hugs the Pacific Ocean. We stopped often for pictures and to walk on the beach.  Dylan has been to the beach before. We like to walk her at Metro Beach. She doesn’t mind the sand, but she doesn’t like the surf.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We enjoyed time at the Pebble Beach Visitors Center.  The lodge, the gift shop, the hotels were very nice. Tom doesn’t have his golf clubs, but if he did… Mallory says we’ll make another trip here in the summer.  Although it’s expensive, Pebble Beach is a public golf course. It’s not impossible to play here, especially for a single to walk on.  Harry Ganas has played here. Tom says he’d love to play here sometime with Harry ( who is his favorite golf partner).
Capitola was the next stop. I loved this town. I could spend some time here right along the ocean. Muzi found a dog friendly restaurant. Usually dog friendly means seating outside. Not possible today with the rain. We put Dylan back inside the carrier and went to Margaritaville hoping for some fresh fish.  I ordered garlic prawns, which came with the heads on, and lots of spice. Not what my acid sensitive system likes.  I had to bail on the margaritas and stick with water. Once again. I was surprised to see dogs inside the restaurant.  Highway 1 is the picturesque winding road that mostly hugs the Pacific Coast. Today with the clouds, the rain, and the fog, the view was not at its best. Mallory, Michelle and Dylan all fell asleep while I sat in the center back singing. We drove H1 all the way back, with our last stop in Half Moon Bay. We stopped in the dog friendly brewery. Again, outside not possible. As we approached the door — a sign told us “NO PETS INSIDE”  so quickly into the carrier she goes. We found a table, put the carrier on the floor and ordered beers all around. No problem!   As we have been driving the last two days, I’m making notes of areas to check out for rentals next winter. I’d like to stay here about a month, but I’d like my own place. I don’t think we could afford anything in the city, but within an hour would be possible. Close to the BART or CAL Rail would be even better. If not, we’d borrow the car we are leaving here for the month.
Monday, March 4, 2019 I have a meeting with Dr. Alicia Knee, DPM today. I found her online. Reading all the reviews, there wasn’t a single bad one for her. I’m not looking forward to a cortisone shot in my foot. My DPM at home has wanted to inject my foot since my first appointment. I keep putting it off, but my foot hurts so much I’m ready for the shot. I’ve been wearing custom orthotics and a toe spacer. They do help, but when I walk it feels like I’m walking with a large bolt under the ball of my foot. My second toe has been fixed in a curved position for a week now. The pain feels like my toes are on fire. It hasn’t stopped me from walking, which is the only exercise I actually get. I just keep putting one foot in front of the other refusing to give in to the pain.
Tumblr media
Did I mention the doctor was a professional dancer? She is also gorgeous, with the posture of a ballerina. She examined my foot and said I need surgery to correct whats going on. She says my big toe needs a fusion to stop the progression of the deformity the is changing the shape of my foot. The second toe needs a “shortening” procedure in order for it to lay flat again. Dr. Knee tells me she is not going to inject anything into my foot, and adds, if any surgeon suggests that, find another doctor.  If she injects cortisone into my foot, it could cause the ligaments to collapse meaning immediate surgery would be necessary. This means a non weight barring recovery time of 6 weeks. That means crutches. I have a frayed rotator cuff and advanced arthritis in my left shoulder that requires a shoulder replacement. Not just any kind of replacement, a posterior placement which is a specialty procedure. No, Donna can’t just have any run of the mill replacements…they need to be “special”. I just saw a specialist at University of Florida in January that delivered that news. Dr. Knee doesn’t think foot surgery is a good idea until I can use crutches. She asked me to consider which procedure I feel needs to be done first.  In the meantime, she is sending me to a fit specialist to get new shoes. The sketchers I love need to be replaced with something that has a 4” rocker plate in the front and a built up metacarpal pad.. I think that means “ugly shoe”.
I need to call this entry “All my shoes are black," because that is my new shoe wardrobe  This shoe shopping was nothing like my last excursion. When I was given the orthotics and toe spacer I was on my way to stay with Mallory in New York. The new Canadian owners of Lord and Taylor decided to close the flagship store on fifth avenue. They sold the beautiful building to WEWorks.  No more beautiful Christmas Windows at Lord and Taylor. They had a huge closing sale and I spent an entire day there looking for shoes that would fit the new insoles and the toe spacer, and still look good. I thought I was buying my last new shoe wardrobe. The prices were good, I bought quite a few pairs and had to borrow a suitcase to get them all home.  Little did I know that I would be doing that again, today, at “On The Run”. I need a shoe that has a stiff sole from the ball of the foot to the toe. Unfortunately, all the shoes I own, especially all the ones in my suitcase here in California, bend. I wasn’t given much choice of colors or styles. Mark and Tim., the fit specialists, spent almost two hours with me. I walked out owning 2 pairs of the ugliest shoes I have ever owned, and one that isn’t so bad. Definitely the most expensive shoes I have ever worn. Mark tells me I may find the shoes so comfortable my foot won’t hurt and thus avoid surgery. I’m thinking, I’ll bet you say that to all the girls Mark! Trouble is, the cutest pair is on a higher platform than I usually wear. That may bother my hip, so I have to walk around in them inside to decide. If they work out, they do come in red, so that might be a plus.
Mallory runs a “shoes off” house. She’ll have to make an exception for me. I was told I can NEVER walk barefoot. I plan to wear a pair of the uglies only inside, like slippers, so Mallory won’t mind. I wonder if I needed to get a doctors note to be allowed to wear my shoes indoors? I’m not sure I can give up the feeling of sand between my toes. Walks on the beach are not a daily event, yet anyway. I’m sure once in a while it will be okay?

Rick Horrow’s 10 to Watch : Week of Februrary 18th
MAYORS EDITION
MLB in 2019 will "commemorate the 150th anniversary of professional organized baseball with a season-long series of uniform features and content integrations across its league-run media platforms." According to Sports Business Journal, the league's celebration will begin on Opening Day in late March with "special cap patches worn by every player." The cap application has "never been done to celebrate a major anniversary in baseball, but it will be similar to special postseason patches worn on the side of player caps." There also will be a "uniform patch worn all season on the right sleeve of player jerseys." Those sleeve patches "recall similar ones used to celebrate baseball's 100th anniversary" in 1969 and 125th in 1994. MLB also is planning an "extensive series of anniversary-driven multimedia content commemorations of great moments in baseball history that will run on MLB Network, MLB.com and the league's official social media channels.” It truly is a celebratory year, as the NFL is also celebrating its 100th anniversary and other key milestones of sport also unfold, which we will document throughout the year.
Overtime banks $23 million from Carmelo Anthony, Victor Oladipo, Spark Capital, and others. According to Hashtag Sports, the digital sports media startup focused on high-school athletes has raised $23 million in Series B funding. Venture-capital firm Spark Capital led the round, which brings the two-year-old company to $33.5 million raised to date. Others participating include MSG Networks and NBA players Victor Oladipo and Carmelo Anthony. With the latest funding, Overtime has a valuation of around $100 million. The company launched with short-form content centered on high-school basketball stars, and over the past year has expanded its coverage to include soccer, football, esports, and women’s basketball. Overtime also is looking to launch live in-person events and activations and is eyeing international expansion. People continue investing in Overtime because they’ve smartly monetized through branded-content deals and nascent ecommerce and merchandise business, and look to be a rising star in the youth sports digital media space.
U.S. Club Soccer and LaLiga North America have announced an expansion of their technical partnership first signed in August, 2015. The long-term extension continues a valuable relationship in youth soccer that has provided various coaching education resources to the American game, directly educating thousands of coaches and impacting even more players. It also points to LaLiga North America’s commitment to growing soccer in the U.S. LaLiga North America is a joint venture between LaLiga and Relevent Sports, which serves as the exclusive representation of LaLiga in the U.S. and Canada for all business and development activities. The operation supports the league’s growth in the U.S. and Canada through consumer-related activities including youth academies, development of youth soccer coaches, marketing agreements, consumer activations, exhibition matches, a coaching education series, and plans to have an official LaLiga Santander match played in the U.S. In 2019 and beyond, the two organizations plan to increase their Players First commitment by creating additional coaching development opportunities, extending LaLiga scouting to U.S. Club Soccer members, and offering exclusive benefits to Players First-licensed clubs and others.
The Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA), the non-profit association comprising 2,700 men and women professionals overseeing sports fields worldwide and critical to athletes’ safety, received outstanding participation at its 30th annual Conference and Exhibition in Phoenix. Visit Phoenix confirmed the community received over $3 million from total estimated direct expenditures from conference participants including event attendees, exhibitors, and organizers. The Phoenix Convention Center housed more than 2,300 participants including 1,400 sports turf leaders and 900 exhibitors from 14 countries for four days of industry education, networking events, and product demonstrations. The event was highlighted by a volunteer rebuild of Lindo Park baseball field, two “Seminar On-Wheels” tours of Phoenix area sports complexes, SAFE fundraisers, and the STMA Awards Reception and Banquet. SAFE, the association’s charitable foundation, raised nearly $41,000 through a bowling competition, live and silent auctions, raffles, and a golf tournament at Grand Canyon University Golf Course. Proceeds benefit educational programs, scholarships and grants enriching communities through safe, sustainable sports and recreation fields.
NASCAR goes all in on media advertising and teams up with Barstool Sports. With an aging fan base and no consistent uptick in ratings, NASCAR needs a serious revamp. To deal with this, NASCAR is launching an ad campaign for nearly 20 TV markets throughout the United States and has struck a digital partnership with Barstool Sports. According to Sports Business Daily, NASCAR is set to spend between $10 million-$20 million for this advertising campaign set to run throughout 2019 with a new technique of advertisements to be shown during non-NASCAR related programming. NASCAR is planning to launch locally themed ads on local Fox and NBC affiliates in NASCAR markets such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Kansas City, and Orlando/Daytona and such cities as Cleveland, Milwaukee, Raleigh, and Tampa where NASCAR doesn’t yet race. NASCARS’ overall marketing goal will be to tell the stories of its drivers and accompanying teams in hopes of bringing in new fans to the sports while retaining its core fan base.
The Alliance of American Football league is underway and the ratings show that it’s an early hit. The AAF debuted on February 9 on CBS. Surprisingly, according to Yahoo Sports, the new football league was able to pull off better television overnight ratings than a Houston Rockets vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA matchup and generally received positive reviews during its opening week. Although the early 2.1 overnight rating beat out the NBA numbers, there was certainly more curiosity about the AAF than a regular-season NBA game. In the past other startup football leagues such as the USFL and XFL performed well at the beginning before excitement quickly fizzled. The challenge for the AAF will be to keep the good times rolling as ratings will be harder to come by when the games are on CBS Sports Network and not CBS in primetime. Ultimately, compelling football will be what keeps fans engaged long term. The AAF will also be competing with the other new football league, the XFL, which is set to launch some time during 2020. The AAF will have to outperform other new football leagues in addition to well-established sports institutions such as the NBA and MLB during the spring and summer months.
Sports entities raise the bar on stylish celebrations of Black History Month. CBS Sports Network celebrates Black History Month with the premiere of “Althea & Arthur,” a documentary highlighting the legacies of Althea Gibson and Arthur Ashe on February 18. The documentary is narrated by Tony Award winning actress Phylicia Rashad and chronicles the impact Gibson and Ashe made to the world of tennis and in advancing civil rights in America during a time of racism and segregation. In Phoenix, The Arizona Republic notes the Suns’ Mikal Bridges, Josh Jackson, Kelly Oubre, and Richaun Holmes have "each worn themed sneakers in February" to celebrate Black History Month. The shoes will be made "available for purchase at the end of the month with the proceeds benefiting Elevate Phoenix, a local non-profit that works with youth." The Suns "commissioned designers to create the custom sneakers, but the players had a say in the theme.”
The PGA Tour continues to drive philanthropy. Last week, insurance firm Burns & Wilcox launched its signature philanthropic initiative Champions & Charities with brand ambassadors Webb Simpson and Jimmy Walker. The company will give a minimum of $50,000 to the charity of the golfers' choice. And the just-completed PGA Tour Genesis Open "will get a big upgrade" beginning in 2020, according to sources, in no small part because of its affiliation with Tiger Woods’ foundation. According to ESPN, the event held at Riviera Country Club and run by Woods' foundation will receive “elevated status,” which means it will have a significantly higher purse – growing to $9.3 million, as well as offer  a three-year PGA Tour exemption to the winner (up from two years), and have an invitational field" of 120 players rather than 144. The best thing that Woods could do to boost its prominence? Win the event.
As the 2019 NASCAR season opens at Daytona, Dale Earnhardt Jr. volunteered on a chainsaw crew as they "cleaned up debris from Hurricane Michael" in Panama City, Florida. According to the Charlotte Observer, Earnhardt "joined a crew from Team Rubicon, the non-profit group of veterans that teams with first responders.” Likewise, NASCAR driver Kurt Busch will "pay for and give away 100 tickets" for each Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race this season to military members and veterans. The giveaway is in "partnership with the Veterans Tickets Foundation." NASCAR continues to be a team player and major contributor off the racetrack as well as working hard to keep sports fans’ focus on its racing circuit, state of the art facilities likeD, and high profile drivers.
USA BMX, Mongoose team up For STEM education initiative. USA BMX has signed a deal with the Mongoose bicycle brand to bring science, math, engineering and technology training to U.S. schools in a joint program that is projected to reach 225,000 students in 2019. Additionally, according to Sports Business Journal, Mongoose has hired nine-time USA BMX amateur national champion and USA BMX Foundation Marketing Coordinator Justin Posey as a sponsored rider and education ambassador. Interestingly, the Mongoose bicycle brand is owned by Pacific Cycle, a division of Montreal-based Dorel Industries.

It’s been a while; like almost two years…a long while! A lot of things have happened since I last even thought about this blog. The embodiment of myself in this blog feels almost alien to me at this point. I no longer feel the same connection to makeup reviews and the details of attending beauty school (which I graduated BTW! Oct. 31, 2018). Its funny how even 2 years ago things looked so different! What a better time then now to share with you what happened and where I am with this blog than when we are all stuck inside with nothing to do surviving the apocalypse and scavenging for toilet paper?
Let’s see, at this time 2 years ago I was recently engaged; yes, engaged!
I don’t think I had mentioned that at any point but, Kyle and I got engaged December of 2017. So in April of 2018 I was planning a wedding that definitely contributed to my neglect of this blog. I had planned on doing a series in the adventures of wedding planning, detailing all the trials and tribulations of picking out a dress, table linens and decor, which in retrospect I actually regret to some extent. It would have made for a really fun thing to look back on and I’m sure entertained many of you. But I digress because as amazing as that time in life is and can be, it’s incredibly stressful. Especially when dealing with job loss and parents who don’t see eye-to-eye on where money should be spent. I won’t get into any more details but I’m sure you would sympathize with me on this one!
In the summer of 2019, Kyle and I came to the hard decision of moving back in with my parents. We had already put down-payments on virtually our whole wedding and would lose all of our deposits if we cancelled and moved our wedding to 2020. Which, thank goodness we didn’t because we likely would be postponing to 2021 with everything going on now! So, with our finances spiraling and our mental health taking an even more drastic hit we gave up our lease and moved back with my family. We both decided that we needed some time to reflect and think about where we really wanted to be headed in life. And of course, pay off this wedding. For me this was the hardest thing I’ve done and I think for Kyle too. Your pride, self-esteem and mental health really take a hit when you’re an adult moving back in with your parents. Lets just say the last 3 months before we got married were hell!
Finally, on October 26, 2019 we were wed!
I’m sure I’m not the only one who has ever said this in the history of ever but, aside from the pouring rain, the whole day went perfectly. Actually it went by so fast and our coordinators were so good at their job that if something went wrong at all, Kyle and I had no clue. Our venue was a large estate that sits on a (former) golf course. Don’t worry we weren’t dodging golf balls after a declaration of “FOUR!” in the distance all day. Thank you, rain and legally binding contracts!
We chose the venue because of its elegant look and natural beauty as well as the ability to enjoy the space for the whole event. We had the venue for 12 hours, completely to ourselves and our guests. I could literally write a whole book but I’ll save you the agony; here are a few highlights and details of our day:
Love this photo and all the warm tones!
My wedding shoes and ring
My flowers were stunning! I feel like our florist should charge triple for the amazing work she does.
Doesn’t he look handsome??
Finally married!! Can you see the relief on our faces?
We decided to do a polaroid guest book to capture our guests photo and signature on our big day!
Our head table: we reused my bouquet as our centerpiece
Our beautiful wedding cake decorated by my aunt!
Cake cutting: we chose red velvet cake and white cake with raspberry filling. It was delicious!
Our sparkler send off we were afraid wouldn’t happen due to rain
Just on of my fave photos. We’re pretty cute!
Phew! I feel like I’m reliving a lifetime. But, it’s cathartic to look back on the good over the last few years because I know especially for me, my anxiety and depression have a way of painting everything in a bad light.
After typing out the rest of this post, I realized it was getting extremely lengthy. I’ve decided to post the rest in another post this week. If you enjoyed this one subscribe by email or follow for the next entry! AND STAY INSIDE! SAVE A LIFE!
XOXO,
Grace
