pr relationship, fake dating, fluff & angst.
it all started with that stupid ad. girlfriend wanted. a two year gig with insane pay, how could a broke student say no to that? not that she expected it to be real, let alone to get chosen for the job.
yet here she was, negotiating her contract for a few extra perks. not exactly where she expected to use her law degree, but it was coming in handy.
the whole thing was so secretive, she presumed she’d have to put a smile on for some old b lister, pretend to adore a wrinkly wandering hand. she surely did not anticipate the most gorgeous and charismatic man to show up for their first date.
lando made it so easy. while before she stressed if she could even fabricate an ounce of affection for someone she didn’t know, the real challenge now was not to catch feelings. she could see why his playboy image needed cleaning up, given the chance and under different circumstances, she would not hesitate going home with him.
she tried her best to keep it professional. and there was a lot of work to do, from soft launching on instagram to perfecting her smile for the paparazzi. really, she was nothing more than an employee. it was difficult though, when the line between real and fake kept blurring.
race weekends were becoming more than she could handle. lando was constantly in her space, always touching her in some way. and the issue was that she didn’t mind at all, she got so used to it that she didn’t even notice how it followed them behind closed doors. they fell into a sort of domestic routine, moving between countries and hotel rooms. lando’s head in her lap as she listened back to a lecture in bed, showering together when lando could barely stand straight after training.
“sign this.” she pulled out a mclaren cap one day, making lando dramatically gasp.
“you’ve been a fan this whole time? did they fail to background check you?”
“it’s for my dad. don’t let it go to your head, if it was up to him, i’d be fake dating lewis instead of you.” of course her family weren’t aware of their arrangement, and y/n was more than happy to keep it that way.
“wow okay, and you’re on first name basis with lewis already?” lando laughed as y/n looked away in embarrassment. he did as told though, finding her flustered state the cutest thing in the world.
it wasn’t on their calendar, but lando begged her to come golfing. he couldn’t handle being away from her for too long anymore. so she shook hands with carlos, a face she was familiar with, and the girl he brought along for what was turning out to be a double date.
y/n didn’t care for sports much, but seeing lando in his element was always entertaining. she sat in the little cart watching him beat carlos when his date came to join her. before y/n could open her mouth, the sweet smile she had was quickly turning into a sour face.
“ah, the darling wag.” carlos’ partner said, looming over y/n. “you guys are doing such a good job at pretending, it’s almost like there’s no pretending at all. you do know he’ll drop you the moment your contract is up?”
all y/n could do was sit there red in the face. surely she could’ve phrased it nicer, but it was a good reminder nevertheless. she watched as the woman came up to the golf players, a cheshire grin on her face as she asked lando to teach her. the mclaren driver didn’t waste a second wrapping his arms around her, hands guiding hands. y/n wanted to throw up.
as expected, photos of carlos’ date practically grinding herself on lando reached social media in minutes, y/n left to clean up the mess. that’s what she was here for after all, to keep up appearances and dismiss her feelings.
lando didn’t notice something wrong until y/n proposed going out. she hasn’t been out since undergrad, but all she wanted now was to drown her sorrows. what a fool she was to have her heart open. she dragged lando through a crowded club, hating how perfectly her hand fit in his.
taking shots like water, lando could only escalate the situation through sheer amazement. he’s never seen this side of her, only the cool and collected y/n he’s grown incredibly fond of. her touch felt different too, kissing him like they were the only two people in the room.
he had to carry her back into the hotel room, y/n still humming the lyrics of sweet escape by gwen stefani into his neck. and when lando placed her down into bed, she refused to let go.
eyes half lidded and pupils blown out, her gaze jumped between his eyes and lips. when the f1 driver first caught word of a pr relationship being orchestrated for him, he could only laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. and yet here he was, being pulled into bed by the most divine woman he’s ever laid eyes on.
but this was not how he wanted it.
“we can’t, y/n.”
“silly me, there’s no cameras around.”
“is that what this is about? i want to. so bad that it hurts, you know? no cameras, just you and me.”
“just you and me.” she sighed in content, her sweet voice repeating him. he nearly caved in then, but he needed sober words. he needed it to be real.
it was a distant memory in morning, y/n retching the contents of her stomach with lando holding back her hair. she could barely recall their last conversation, the shame of her throwing herself at him was the only thing she could focus on. she wished for the earth to open and swallow her whole.
the golf incident got replaced with photos of lando manhandling her after the club, so at least that was taken care of. but there was a switch after that, y/n a better actress than she gave herself credit. while she smiled wide for the cameras, she kept her distance when no one was around. she was done bending the line of real and fake.
after the season, she had to come stay with lando in monaco. it only made sense, their one year mark just around the corner. and while lando tried his best, bringing her flowers every other day and inviting her for sleepovers in his room, y/n stayed locked up in the guest room with dead flowers in the bin.
there was much to prepare for their anniversary. write and rewrite captions, scope out a location that was private yet visible for photographs. she was operating like working a nine to five, her mind completely void and just going through the motions. so when she got back to lando’s after an early nail appointment, she truly didn’t know how to react seeing a girl just about to leave.
“oh my god, y/n!” the girl seemed just as surprised, eyes wide like a deer caught in the headlights. “i thought- i’m sorry! i thought you guys had broken up…”
“um- yeah, yeah… we’re on a break, i’m just here to grab a few things.” through gritted teeth, she squeezed out a smile and an excuse that would cover for her so called boyfriend.
she could hear the shower running as she waved the hookup out the door. she didn’t know if she wanted to cry or go absolutely hysteric on lando.
“what the actual fuck were you thinking?” she asked once he came out of the bathroom, curls wet and a very satisfied look on his face.
“what? it’s not like we’re actually dating. you’ve made that very clear, love.”
“we may not be dating, but the public thinks we are!”
“so? she won’t tell.”
“you actually believe that? i just had to make up some bullshit excuse about how we’re on break so you wouldn’t look like a bloody cheater!”
“well you’re a lawyer, make her sign an nda or something.” lando did not yet grasp the severity of the situation, finding it amusing while y/n could only see red.
“you’re unbelievable. i’m fucking done, i can’t do this anymore.” she pushed past him, beginning to pack her things. contractual obligation or not, she was done vouching for him.
“come on, y/n, it’s not that big of a deal.”
“just you and me, huh? you’re such a piece of shit, lando.”
that grounded him quickly, but nothing he said could make her change her mind. if she left now, she would be violating their agreement. not only would she not get compensated fully, she’d be thrown under the bus. she couldn’t care less about it now though, using the last of her savings to get home. she was back in england with no money and a broken heart.
it’s only been a few days, but rumors of y/n being unfaithful and leaving the mclaren golden boy hurting were all over twitter. she should’ve known better, she was naive to believe that a manufactured relationship could run smoothly.
she was holding up just fine until today. one whole year of y/n signing that stupid contract. she was in mourning, rotting in bed of her childhood bedroom. she gave up her apartment shortly after getting with lando.
she could hear hushed voices in the living room, her dad softly knocking on her door. she eyed him suspiciously, blood pressure rising as she noticed the man adorning an autographed mercedes cap on his head. realizing what it meant, she wanted to scream at her father for selling out so easily.
she didn’t say a word as lando came in view. humiliating enough, she was wearing his hoodie. she told herself she packed it with her on accident, but she knew in her heart of hearts she wanted to keep a piece of him.
“i’m sorry.”
“that’s it?” lando wanted to cry looking at her stone cold face. he’d give anything to go back to a time where she’d throw her arms around him after a race. it didn’t matter if he did good or bad, y/n would be there to suffocate him with a rib crushing hug. he could still remember the taste of her cherry chapstick, the warmth of her skin. now they stood at a distance, like strangers who have never shared a word between them.
“no, just- why did you not tell me you remembered? i was being honest that night. i- i want you. i remember our first date, how you laughed at one of my stupid jokes. i knew i was fucked then, that i’d be forever chasing that feeling of making you smile. and yeah, at first i thought you just couldn’t remember because you were completely shitfaced. but then you got cold and i could only assume the worst, that you remembered and didn’t feel the same. so i went and slept with someone, just to forget about not being able have you. and i know- i know, it’s a bullshit excuse. but it’s the honest truth.”
“you made me breach contract, i don’t- i don’t know-“
“for fuck’s sake, i just told you i’m in love with you and you still think i’m here just because of some stupid contract?”
she looked away. she was too scared, too hurt to try again. lando took a step closer, hoping she wouldn’t take one back. when she didn’t, he reached out to hold her. nuzzling her face into his chest, she could hear just how fast his heart was beating. he was terrified of losing her again.
“just you and me. for real this time.”

Arnold Palmer
Tumblr media
Physique: Average Build Height: 5'10" (1.77 m)
Arnold Daniel Palmer (September 10, 1929 – September 25, 2016; aged 87) was an American professional golfer who is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most charismatic players in the sport's history. Since embarking on a professional career in 1955, he won numerous events on both the PGA Tour and the circuit now known as PGA Tour Champions. Nicknamed "The King", Palmer was one of golf's most popular stars and seen as a trailblazer, the first superstar of the sport's television age, which began in the 1950s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Handsome and charming. It was Palmer, not Tiger Woods who made golf popular to me. Palmer would stride down a fairway acknowledging his army of fans with a sunny smile and a raised club. And according to Donald Trump, Arnie was was well endowed. I'm betting Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player, other members of the "The Big Three" in golf were also packing 9 irons… at least. Three men that I wouldn’t mind playing around with their clubs and balls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Palmer attended Wake Forest College on a golf scholarship. After quitting school in 1950, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He returned to Wake Forest in 1954 but left again after winning the U.S. Amateur Championship. He earned his first professional victory at the 1955 Canadian Open. In 1958 he won his first Masters Tournament and placed first on the official earnings list for the PGA Tour. Two years later he emerged as a sports superstar, winning eight tournaments, often in dramatic fashion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In a career spanning more than six decades, Palmer won 62 PGA Tour titles from 1955 to 1973. He is fifth on the Tour's all-time victory list, trailing only Sam Snead, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Ben Hogan. He won seven major titles in a six-plus-year domination from the 1958 Masters to the 1964 Masters. He also won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998, and in 1974 was one of the 13 original inductees into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Palmer died on September 25, 2016 (shortly after his 87th birthday) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Palmer was twice married, first to Winnie Walzer in 1954. They remained together for decades until her death in 1999. He remarried in 2005, to Kathleen Gawthrop, who survives him. He is also survived by his two daughters from his first marriage, Amy and Peggy. In addition to golf, Palmer was an avid pilot. He flew for over 50 years; in 1999, the airport in his hometown was named Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in his honor.

Golf
Once upon a time, in the vibrant world of sports, there was a football player named Andrew Thompson. He possessed immense skill and was admired by fans for his dedication and talent. Unfortunately, fate had a different plan in store for Andrew. During a fateful game, he suffered a severe injury that left him unable to continue his football career.
Tumblr media
Devastated by the news, Andrew pondered his uncertain future. He longed for the thrill and camaraderie of the sporting world once more. As he searched for a new direction, he discovered the game of golf. Intrigued by the peacefulness it offered and its potential for success, Andrew decided to give it a shot.
To his surprise, Andrew excelled at golf. With his determination and natural athletic abilities, he quickly rose the ranks through of amateur tournaments. As his skills gained recognition, he found himself competing against some of the sport's greatest players. After each victorious tournament, he indulged in lavish parties, reveling in his newfound success.
Amidst the celebrations, Andrew soon realized that his golf clubs were becoming cumbersome to carry around. He sought a caddy to assist him during his games, and that when's he met Samuel, an experienced caddy with a knack for understanding the game. Samuel diligently carried Andrew's clubs, ensuring he had everything he needed.
However, as time went on, Andrew began to grow lazy. Intoxicated by his achievements and the care Samuel provided, he allowed himself to indulge in luxurious food and leisurely golf cart rides instead of walking the courses. His appetite grew, and so did his waistline.
Tumblr media
Unbeknownst to Andrew, tabloids soon caught wind of his weight gain. Headlines ridiculed his physical transformation, and the public became fascinated with his downfall. Andrew's frustration grew, leading him to seek solace in food even more. The agony of his failures was momentarily eased by binge-eating, which only perpetuated his cycle of weight gain.
Tumblr media
Through it all, Samuel remained devoted to Andrew, preparing delectable meals to satisfy his insatiable hunger. Unbeknownst to Andrew, Samuel found pleasure in their arrangement, which extended beyond the confines of their golfing routine. Their relationship became complicated, entwined with both physical satisfaction and genuine care.
Days turned into months, and Andrew's weight continued to pile on. His belly grew so large that it began interfering with his swing, rendering his ability to play golf effectively nearly impossible. Frustration consumed him, and he made the heart-wrenching decision to retire from golf altogether.
Tumblr media
Despite his attempts to step away from the eating, the weight gain showed signs no of slowing down. Andrew's love for food, coupled with his love for Samuel, fueled his desire to consume more. Samuel, dedicated and unwavering in his support, took care of Andrew's every need, even as their encounters grew more frequent and intense.
Andrew's life gradually revolved around his desires, and his once-athletic physique disappeared beneath layers of fat. The public's interest in him waned, and he became a recluse, secluded within the confines of his extravagant home. While many criticized his choices, Samuel remained steadfast in his care, ensuring Andrew's pleasure and satisfaction were his top priorities.
Days turned into years, and Andrew's weight continued to skyrocket. Yet, despite the physical limitations and societal pressures, their love remained intact. It was a bond that surpassed societal norms, a connection that transcended.
Tumblr media
And appearances so, with every bite, every touch, and every encounter, Andrew and Samuel continued their tumultuous journey. In their twisted world, there would be no stopping, no judgment, and no escape from the grips of their desires.

Jamie Anderson, early golfing pioneer was born on June 27th 1842.
It's only natural that one of the best golfers of his era was born at what is widely called, the home of golf, St Andrews., the son of David ‘Daw’ Anderson – a greenkeeper at the Old Course.
Anderson Jr first started playing at St Andrews aged 10, while also assisting his father sell ginger beer from a portable cart. Indeed, the sight of them selling their drink was so familiar, the Old Course renamed their par-4 fourth hole ‘Ginger Beer’, a name still used to this day.
But Anderson did more than just assist his old man. He also worked as an apprentice in his early life and mastered the art of club making. However, to anyone who saw him play, it was obvious it was on the course where he really excelled.
It was a rivalry that captivated the time. The young, swashbuckling Tom Morris Jr – the heir to Old Tom’s throne – and Anderson, the son of a ginger beer seller, battling it out across Scotland in an arm wrestle to be top dog.
Anderson held his own and the matches were always close. But when Young Tom was at his best, there was simply no stopping him. He won his first Claret Jug aged just 17 in 1868 and went onto defend it in each of the three following years.
It took Anderson until 1873 to show future Champion form when he finished second behind Tom Kidd at St Andrews, but the premature death of Young Tom prevented the two going head-to-head in their prime.
Anderson first captured the Claret Jug in 1877 aged 35 and followed it up with two further wins in 1878 and 1879, becoming the second player – after Young Tom – to win three Opens on the spin and the first to do it on three different courses. By the late 1870s, he was undoubtedly the best player in the world and he proved it in style at Prestwick in 1878.
On the 12-hole course, he battled J O F Morris, Young Tom’s little brother, to be Champion Golfer of the Year.
J O F reached the Prestwick clubhouse in 161 shots, leaving Anderson – four holes back – needing to finish in 17 strokes or fewer (Anderson had played the 7th and 8th holes in 15 shots). However, on the 9th hole he produced a piece of magic in poor weather, launching his approach shot towards the narrow green from 150 yards. He breathed a sigh of relief when it landed safely on target and then celebrated wildly when it rolled into the hole.
More drama followed on the par-3 11th, when a watching child noticed Anderson was about to hit his tee shot from ahead of the markers – an error that would have meant instant disqualification. After replacing his ball, Anderson swung hard and carried the ball to the back of the green before watching it roll gently back down the slope and in for a miraculous hole-in-one.
A simple five on the last saw him retain his title, while thousands of supporters revelled in what they had just witnessed.
After such a long journey to the top of the sport, Anderson’s time there was short-lived. The well quickly dried up, with a second-place in 1881 to Bob Ferguson, who was about to equal Anderson's feat of three consecutive Open wins.
His career and life unravelled as he fell into the dangerous traps laid by alcohol, and he died aged 64 in a poorhouse near Thornton.
Jamie Anderson was laid to rest in the Cathedral graveyard, a short walk from the Old Course but – as one of only four golfers to have won three consecutive Opens – a recent campaign was sparked to erect a fitting memorial.
Roger McStravick, a local author, was at the heart of the campaign, and with the help of crowdfunding he organised for a headstone to be unveiled in July 2018.

back to working on alola prev gen, these r the new highlights so far :)
hapu is poni's trial captain under her grandfather, but when he passes, she steps down from her position and the totem pokemon she looked after, mudsdale, joins her as her permanent partner
olivia becomes a trial captain after her predecessor retires to raise her daughter lana
the player character's maternal grandparent is a trial captain on melemele and remarks to island challengers that their daughter left for kanto to challenge the indigo league
the fairy-type trial captain living in paniola town is the older sister/guardian of plumeria, who she's been having trouble with as of late (also narrative foil with fairy/poison)
mohn was recommended by hala (as a trial captain) to show the youth the ‘joys of an island challenge’ and further embrace alolan culture while conducting his research at the observatory (it works, bc he meets lusamine and then never leaves alola)
mohn is succeeded in both jobs by kids from heahea city - with molayne being the new trial captain and burnet taking charge of the research until she relocates to a specially-made dimensional studies lab back in heahea (her and molayne still keep in touch, and mo is the one that introduced her to kukui)
the ula'ula kahuna is ousted by tapu bulu in the middle of the island challenge, and the one forced to fill his shoes is nanu (this further "ties his hands" and leads to his early retirement from interpol)
mallow is the only akala trial captain in present time to have been chosen by the island kahuna before olivia, who happens to be kahili's mother
unlike her father, kahili's mom is more laid-back and willing to vouch for kahili taking the island challenge, though she does warn her to choose which island she starts with wisely, as she's not going to go easy on her own daughter (basically implying that if kahili chose akala island first, her pokemon would be too underleveled to stand a chance)
before guzma leaves home, he breaks all his golf clubs, cuts his hair, changes his name, and estranges himself from his father, wanting to start his island challenge as a new person
after kahili leaves home, she ditches the too-stiff, too-fancy clothes for casual wear that shows too much skin, trades her starter pokemon (a beldum) for molayne's flying-type, completes one of akala island's three trials, and then jumps on a ferry to set her sights on another island entirely, assertively presenting herself as a rebel
molayne and kahili become fast friends and even better rivals, and their battles are always intense and rewarding; on their way up mt. hokulani to face mohn, they end up encountering a group of skarmory, and together they catch the last pair between themselves just in time for their next trial
the melemele trial involves visiting four out-of-the-way locations across the island and bringing back an item from each to present to the totem pokemon, a drampa living in verdant cavern
guzma meets plumeria near lush jungle on akala and firmly tells her she needs to life live how she wants to and not how others tell her to: immediately following this, guzma bleaches his hair white to prove a point, and plumeria takes the words to heart

what is greener grass awaits i like that golfer
HI AZZIE okay so greener grass awaits is a game about golf! You play as someone who really, really likes golf. But as you break into a golf club after dark to keep golfing, you are interrupted by others who want to kill you. nothing will stop you from golfing, though! not even a god.
spoilers under the cut jic you wanna check out this game yourself. there's some playthroughs online, and the game is free (but very difficult)
If you do decide to watch/play it, I hope you enjoy :D
Okay spoiler time now.
Your player character is not human- or they are, but they're possessed by something that is not. The beginning of the game says "choose body", and when you fall in the water it says "this body cannot swim". You also speak in a very specific font that changes at the end, implying that you have stopped being possessed.
But why are you here? You are either here just to golf and the god (its name is Exuberance) is just getting in the way, or you came here to kill that god specifically. You progress through the Green Canyon Golf Course, even as you're stalked by reanimated corpses that only move when you don't look at them (or look at them for too long).
Why are there zombies here? It's because the Greener Grass company is a front for a cult that worships Exuberance, who seems to be some kind of nature god, judging by all the trees and roots. They advertise themselves to remote areas, and then kill and sacrifice the people there.
Once you confront it, Exuberance recognizes you for what you really are, saying you're the last sacrifice it needs and tries to kill you. It fails, and you kill it instead! Now whatever is possessing you is gone, and you wake up outside of the golf club and go home.
It's a very fun game. Watching it and playing it. I'm in first place for the no enemies speedrun of the game as of November 6th, 2023.

Nationally, Ozarks National (Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design), Buffalo Ridge (Tom Fazio and Johnny Morris), and Payne’s Valley (Tiger Woods) earned distinction in the “Top 100 Public Course” list, ranking nos. 51, 77, and 93, respectively.
For Missouri public courses, Golfweek course raters ranked Ozarks National No. 1 in the state, Buffalo Ridge No. 2, Branson Hills No. 3 (Chuck Smith/Bobby Clampett), Payne’s Valley No. 4, and LedgeStone No. 7 (Tom Clark).
The hundreds of members of Golfweek’s course-ratings panel continually evaluate courses and rate them based on 10 criteria on a points basis of 1 through 10. They also file a single, overall rating on each course. Those overall ratings are averaged to produce the final rankings.
“Golfweek bestowing this honor on us validates not only that our course is considered one of the finest, but also that the Branson golf destination is one of the best with five courses voted into the state’s top 10,” said Dan Davis, PGA, Branson Hills Golf Club, Director of Golf.
Branson’s five other courses are Top of the Rock (Jack Nicklaus), Mountain Top (Gary Player), Thousand Hills (Bob Cupp), The Pointe, and Holiday Hills. Top of the Rock and Mountain Top are award-winning par-3 courses, a welcome addition in golf trips where players tee up 18-holers in the morning, then add afternoon “short course” rounds. Thousand Hills has often earned “favorite course” status among area golfers, while The Pointe and Holiday Hills provide additional popular 18-hole playing options.
The two short courses and Ozarks National, Buffalo Ridge, and Payne’s Valley are amenities of Big Cedar Lodge.
All 10 courses in the destination are located near one another as well as hundreds of restaurants, lodging options, and after-golf attractions.
“Golfweek rating five of our 10 courses among the finest in the state and country is exciting; we hope it inspires people to visit our golf destination in the Branson Missouri Ozarks,” said Lynn Berry, Director of Communications, Explore Branson.
Branson is the No. 3 rated trending tourism destination in America according to Tripadvisor, a place where live entertainment theatres, lakes, museums, a world-famous theme park (Silver Dollar City), sports venues, outdoor adventures, and family friendly activities proliferate.
Tripadvisor, the world’s largest travel guidance platform named Branson’s Silver Dollar City the No. 1 theme park in the United States last week. Utilizing traveler reviews and ratings for experiences, tours, activities, and attractions on their site over a 12-month period (May 1, 2022 - April 30, 2023), as well as an additional editorial process, earned the theme park top status.

Kiryu: Ascended singer/back up dancer now a professional fighter. With Nishiki he was part of the Sunflower Boys Club (like Disney micky mouse club ya dig). In his younger he even had a (successful) duo with Nishiki named (idk the name fam but their duo would be a male japanese 80’s duo WINK). But this only created a gap between the two where Kiryu was getting noticed more and contacted by various types of deals (commercials, mc host deal, acting, etc,), the public treated Nishiki like a side dish (the Beyonce treatment).
The deal sealed itself at the death of their company owner Kazama, and closely after when their manager Kashiwagi resigned from its position and the industry as a whole. After a long break and reflection, Kiryu still wanted to reunite the duo and rebrand into something more mature, but Nishiki refused and broke his contract to go his own way. Kiryu did the same in professional fighting where he is at the top of what they have to offer
Nishiki: once known as everyone boyfriend, the lovely Nishiki (play BOYFRIEND – Love Style). Rebranded with his whole name Akira Nishikiyama as a professional racer leaving all his links with kazama’s company behind him. He plays it lowkey and he is actually not bad (more like a silver or bronze type of good but not the top game). Althea Gibson is first African American to win Wimbledon
On July 6, 1957, Althea Gibson claims the women’s singles tennis title at Wimbledon and becomes the first African American to win a championship at London’s All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Gibson was born on August 25, 1927, in Silver, South Carolina, and raised in the Harlem section of New York City. She began playing tennis as a teenager and went on to win the national Black women’s championship twice. At a time when tennis was largely segregated, four-time U.S. Nationals winner Alice Marble advocated on Gibson’s behalf and the 5’11” player was invited to make her United States National Championships (now known as the U.S. Open) debut in 1950. In 1956, Gibson’s tennis career took off and she won the singles title at the French Championships (now known as the French Open)—the first African American to do so—as well as the doubles’ title there.
In July 1957, Gibson won Wimbledon, defeating Darlene Hard, 6-3, 6-2. (In 1975, Arthur Ashe became the first African American man to win the men’s singles title at Wimbledon, when he defeated Jimmy Connors.) In September 1957, she won the U.S. Open, and the Associated Press named her Female Athlete of the Year in 1957 and 1958. During the 1950s, Gibson won 56 singles and doubles titles, including 11 major titles.
After winning Wimbledon and the U.S. Open again in 1958, Gibson retired from amateur tennis. In 1960, she toured with the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team, playing exhibition tennis matches before their games. In 1964, Gibson joined the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour, the first Black woman to do so. The trailblazing athlete played pro golf until 1971, the same year in which she was voted into the National Lawn Tennis Association Hall of Fame.
After serving as New Jersey’s commissioner of athletics from 1975 to 1985, Althea Gibson died at age 76 from respiratory failure on September 28, 2003, at a hospital in East Orange, New Jersey.

rotten woods  —
tldr: former camp counselors who survived a cross-country trek after the blast, vaguely based on the breakfast club.
please note that below the cut there are vague mentions to the demise of like...so many people.

LABOR DAY, CAMP IDLEWOOD —
SEPTEMBER 2020 - After another idyllic summer in the Kennebec Valley, Maine, CAMP IDLEWOOD has emptied out, leaving behind the staff to pack up the canoes, close down the barn, and lock up the cabins. But first, there’s the end of the year bonfire, where beer flows steadily and counselors enjoy the camp just a little for themselves. It teeters on the edge of a John Hughes movie and a bacchanal for the most part, but THE BLAST turned IDLEWOOD summer slasher. How they survived ranges anywhere from happening to be down in a basement to drag out more frozen burger patties to other strokes of dumb luck. But when the sun rose, all that was left were five twenty-somethings in the gore-splattered woods. Not friends, not all of them at least, and certainly not prepared to explain what had just happened -- they buried what they could and cooled their heels. Someone would come, right? Some sort of authority?    PRESENT DAY - Bound together mostly out of necessity, the IDLEWILDE FIVE mostly stumbled their way to outpost in Carlsbad by accident. As conditions grow worse, they’re thinking of trying their luck on the outside once again.
“THE PRINCESS” / OPEN / RESERVED FOR MOLLY Formerly a camper, THE PRINCESS came back to IDLEWOOD because she loved it, point blank, and spent the summer ensuring that GIRLS BUNK A had equally sunny memories. Perhaps: a silver-spoon daughter of a scion with soft hands, she’s taken the end of the world mostly in stride, despite possibly being unnfairly established as a weak link at the start of their adventure. She’s worked tirelessly to keep the group together and perhaps indulge in their humanity more often than not. What’s the point in surviving if there isn’t anything to look forward to?  “THE ATHLETE” / OPEN / RESERVED FOR JAY Tapped astThe de-facto leader as they stuck out from CAMP IDLEWOOD after THE BLAST. The prototypical golden boy, a consummate optimist, product of generational wealth — THE ATHLETE almost found a thrill in everything going shit-sideways. For once: there wasn’t a playbook to follow, no more eventual picket fence with 2.5 kids and a golden retriever, no more family firm and corner office or endless games of golf looming in his future. Currently, the most skeptical about leaving the safe-haven of Carlsbad, his constant optimism is starting to fail him. A straight shooter, a Fred Jones archetype, but who stays the same when the world ends? “THE CRIMINAL” / DARCY FARRELL / RESERVED 4 THE #1 CROCS APOLOGIST (SAV) He spent the majority of summer in the craft yurt or slipping off to smoke on the jetty dreaming of the different life he would have when he finally got the fuck out of dodge. Had a kindred relationship with “THE BASKETCASE” out of all of them before THE BLAST, though perhaps he didn’t quite understand how deep that went for her. A never-do-well that was only sort of straightened out after the apocalypse. A townie who had a golden ticket out of Maine, but that got blown to shit with THE BLAST. Adaptability is with its weight in gold these days, and he’s not gambling on Carlesbad anymore. “THE BRAIN” / NAME NAME / OPEN Took the job at CAMP IDLEWOOD because he thought it would help differentiate his already packed resume going into INSERT IVY LEAGUE SCHOOL HERE. THE BRAIN has always been determined to move up and onwards, high school sucked but eventually, he’d be the one to call the shots. Perhaps he wasn’t the most popular counselor at camp, but he’s found his opportunity to be a team player in the apocalypse, despite initial misgivings about “THE ATHLETE”. A “well rounded overachiever” in a previous life, THE BRAIN’S encyclopedic knowledge about science fiction constructed the “Don’t Be Stupid Rules” that have more or less kept them out of trouble as they trekked across the country. Sometimes feels like an unsung hero, but hey — the meek inherit the Earth, right? “THE BASKETCASE” / NAME NAME / RESERVED FOR BRETT Probably didn’t have any business (desire or inclination) being a camp counselor, but when your mom is the longtime camp director, it was more or less an expectation. Something of a loner, avoided the general jocularity of her coworkers and preferred to spend time by herself in the sick-bay or waiting for “THE CRIMINAL” to put down his hemp bracelets for a minute. Unrequited pining aside, the BASKETCASE has become something of their walking first-aid kit, but is itching to be a little braver at the end of times. Has certainly found her voice and a purpose in Carlesbad, and while she isn’t eager to strike out again, she figures that it's better to stick together than to be alone.

"Would things be easier if there was a right way? Honey, there is no right way."
-Hozier.
♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪~♪
Basic Information:
Name: Andrew John Hozier-Byrne
Age: 33
Gender: Male
Pronouns: He/Him
Cultural Background: Irish
Occupation: Singer/Musician/Songwriter.
Borderlands: Player/Beach resident (Rank unknown)
Star sign: Pieces
MBTI: INFJ
Others: He has a scar at the back of his left leg around his ankle.
Background:
•He was born to parents who were singers and drummers so he was always interested in music.
•He started writing music at the age of 15.
•He grew up in a loving family, but he had to face some dark times growing up. His father, who was also a musician had to have surgery on his spine and was forced to retire, leaving the family in a very difficult spot financially
•He once worked in a golf course scrubbing bathrooms and he thought it was a good experience of hard work.
•His music primarily draws from folk, soul, and blues, which contain stories of love, tragedy, and hope, while also conveying strong political messages and often using religious and literary themes.
•After his break through in the industry Hozier felt like the relationships that he made with the people around him were more superficial and no one really cared about how he felt which gave him a huge sense of loneliness.
•He found solace and a sense of belonging exclusively within the presence of his family and his beloved childhood friend. The bond between him and his friend was incredibly strong, resembling that of brothers in every way. His friend was the only one who supported him through out his journey to become a singer along with his family.
•A year before the boderland incident, he was involved in a devastating accident that resulted in the loss of his childhood friend. This heartbreaking experience left him utterly broken. He blamed himself for a long time because he was the one driving the car.
•Additionally, he suffered a severe ankle injury that required surgery, preventing him from attending his friend's funeral. The injury also forced him to go on a hiatus from singing which pushed him further into darkness.
•His trip to Japan was his attempt to try to heal and move on from the tragedy but it just lead him to end up in boderland.
Boderland (If being used):
Specialty: Clubs Games.
How he got here: Taking a break from his hectic routine, he found himself in Tokyo for a brief respite. As he relaxed in his hotel room, he caught sight of fireworks illuminating the sky in the middle of the day from the window. Intrigued by the spectacle, he made up his mind to investigate and headed downstairs. However, as he stepped out of his room, a weird emptiness greeted him. Though initially unfazed as it wasn't a busy time, he still couldn't shake off the unsettling feeling when he noticed the absence of any individuals, even beyond the hotel premises.
First Game: He initiated his gaming experience with an intense game of hide and seek known as "Ace of Spades" held in a playground. The game had a maximum capacity of 15 participants and lasted for one hour. The objective was for players to conceal themselves successfully and avoid being detected by the seekers. Those who managed to remain hidden until the end of the game would be the winners. However, a notable modification was introduced: the seekers assumed the roles of two fierce tigers. As a result, the game took a drastically intense turn, resembling a brutal bloodbath.

Travel place Idea 2023
Maui
Maui is a small island in Hawaii, with white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. It's a popular tourist destination for its beauty and variety of activities. You can enjoy breathtaking views from the top of Haleakala volcano or hike through rainforest trails on the slopes of Haleakala.
Maui has some amazing waterfalls like Wailea Falls or Wailua Falls which are both part of the Hawaiian Islands National Wildlife Refuge (HINWR). You can also visit Lana'i or Lanai if you want to see some more beautiful beaches like Black Rock Beach or Kukuiula Beach Park where people come here during summer months because there is no waves so it's very safe for swimming too!
Another great place to visit while staying in Maui would be Wailea Golf Club where there are lots more things besides just playing golfing games such as tennis courts where players get together after they finish their day’s play; facility includes catering services available 24 hours per day seven days per week including bar service available at various locations throughout property during normal business hours only not available off-site due to liability issues associated with serving alcohol outside licensed premises when customers aren't present within immediate proximity so please make sure everyone behaves responsibly before drinking any alcoholic beverages
alaska
Alaska is the 49th state of the United States and one of the largest, most mountainous, and least densely populated states in the United States. It has been named by Lonely Planet as one of its top 10 destinations for 2019. You can visit this beautiful place by flying to Anchorage or Fairbanks or even by driving through Denali National Park and Preserve.
iceland
Iceland is a country in northern Europe. It's made up of many islands and volcanoes, so it has a lot of natural beauty to offer.
Iceland is home to some of the best hiking trails in all of Europe, as well as some fantastic restaurants and bars that serve traditional Icelandic dishes like whale meat and puffin eggs (which are served on toast). You'll also find plenty of waterfalls if you're looking for something more adventurous than just relaxing by the pool with your friends!
Maldives
Maldives is an island country in the Indian Ocean. It is situated between India and Sri Lanka, atolled by 1,192 coral islands (1,190 if you count the minor atolls). This tiny country has been known as “the land of water” since ancient times because of its vast amounts of water surrounding it.
Maldives offers tourists many things to do: diving with sharks and turtles; snorkeling on coral reefs; walking through tropical forests or exploring ancient temples; eating seafood cooked over coconut husks while taking in the beautiful scenery around you...
Monaco
Monaco is the second smallest country in the world. It has only about 324,000 people and it’s located on the coast of France.
Monaco has a lot of casinos and hotels, but it also has museums like The Musée National des Châteaux de Malmaison and Musée Guggenheim du Design.
france
France is a beautiful country that has many different cities and towns. It is an excellent place to visit if you are looking for culture, history, or even just some good food!
Here are some ideas for your trip:
Paris - Paris is one of the most famous cities in all of Europe. You can visit any one of the museums there and see amazing artworks from around the world! There’s also plenty more going on besides just sightseeing—you could check out some concerts or performances at Les Etoiles de la Rue (the Stars of La Rua), which offers theater performances throughout its three venues: Théâtre de la Bourse; Théâtre du Vieux-Colombier; and Studio Kino. Or if you have time left over after touring these places, why not take part in something like cycling through Montmartre? This hike will take about 2 hours roundtrip depending on how fast/slow paced you want your ride!
We should go traveling with my friends
Traveling with friends is a great way to have fun, relax and meet new people. It’s also an exciting experience that will make you feel like you are living life on your own terms.
Traveling by yourself can be very stressful if you don’t have anyone to share it with or take care of when things get tough. Traveling with other people who care about each other can help relieve some of this stress when traveling together as well as making sure everyone has what they need during their trip (food & water).
Conclusion
We hope this list of travel ideas has given you some inspiration for your next trip! We know that it can be hard to decide where to go and what to see, but these places offer something special for everyone. Whether it's the beautiful landscapes.

On October 4, 1949, members of the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL) voted to exclude Black players from competitions.
The ACBL was founded in 1937 and became the largest organization devoted to the card game in the U.S. White bridge organizations in this era strictly enforced racial segregation, forcing Black bridge players to create their own bridge association called the American Bridge Association (ABA). Racial exclusion was reinforced by laws in several states that officially banned card games between Black and white players.
In 1949, several Black bridge players applied for membership in the ACBL, challenging the organization’s “white only” policy. In response, the ACBL board of directors held a vote among its 28,000 members. Nearly 60% voted to reject allowing Black bridge players to be admitted.
The ACBL’s president said after the vote that his organization “is not a political organization but is primarily social in character. Social customs are based on public opinion and we do not seek either to perpetuate or to destroy them.”
It would be over a decade until the ACBL began allowing Black players to compete, at first only in select events. In 1962, a Black bridge player named Joseph L. Henry, a top player in the ABA who had coordinated the effort to integrate the ACBL, led a team to the ACBL national title. The ACBL did not formally open its membership to Black players in all of its events until 1967.
Long after laws banning interracial games and sporting events were declared unconstitutional, many social clubs and associations, especially those most popular among upper-income white people, maintained segregated membership. For example, some of the U.S.’s most prominent golf clubs—including Augusta National, the home of the Masters Tournament—did not begin allowing Black members until the 1990s.

Adams Golf’s Idea–Direct to Customer
By ED TRAVIS
The selling of golf clubs and balls is a predictable process, at least for the major manufacturers. Though each spends millions for endorsement by professional tour stars marketing plans usually place emphasis on where the company feels they have an advantage—for example, Callaway Golf’s Paradym drivers or Acushnet Company’s Titleist golf balls.
A key for the big manufacturers to pushing club and ball sales is establishing relationships with the so-called green grass shops found at every golf course and run by a PGA Professionals plus off-course vendors especially big box multiple location retailers while promoting online sales through their own websites and sites run by independents.
Adams Golf, which had all but disappeared after TaylorMade’s purchase in 2012 for $70 million, is taking a different route to re-establish itself with golfers. They have introduced a club family under the Idea brand name which is being sold DTC only from its website…no green-grass, no big box, no brick and mortar.
Of course, smaller, niche-focused makers sell online but often offer only a limited selection, perhaps just putters or balls. None of the major brands have opted to enter the market with a separate brand and then sell only DTC. For example, Callaway has the Big Bertha family and Tour Edge Golf the Hot Launch line, but neither is sold solely over the Internet.
To add to the attractiveness Adams/TaylorMade has decided to price the Idea clubs at the lower end of the current price spectrum with shaft selection limited to a single stock model though options of steel or graphite are offered in the irons. An Adams Idea driver, a fairway wood, two hybrids and seven irons may be purchased for just about $1500 while the latest from parent TaylorMade, a Stealth 2 driver, one fairway wood and two hybrids lists cost approximately the same amount and that doesn’t include the Stealth irons which could be another $1000. Adams ships at no cost for orders over $99.
An interesting business plan, TaylorMade creating in-house competition. Not unheard of in retail but always to be approached with a complete understanding of how the main, money-making brand will be affected when faced with a lower priced rival offering presumably the same quality though it could be argued performance may be significantly different. The company certainly believes that for a generation of consumers familiar with online purchasing, golf clubs on the web without a potentially intimidating store visit is worth the investment.
Adams Golf was started by Barney Adams in 1991 and his Tight Lies hybrid design changed hybrids forever with its innovative Tri-Sole that helped average players get the ball out of most any lie, long grass or even sand.
The Idea line can boast some of the latest design features and though they may not be as sophisticated as the TaylorMade Stealth still are attractive for use by new golfers and those returning to the game. For example, the draw-bias Idea driver has a carbon fiber crown, an adjustable hosel and sole slot while the cavity back irons are a hollow body construction with a variable thickness face.
In other words, many of the same talking points as any of the major makers competing clubs. The question is can TaylorMade revive Adams Golf with this one-of approach or will Adams slip back into obscurity.
