2/23/25.
The Intima were a Pacific Northwest (Olympia and Portland) band active in the late 90s and early 00s. There hints of math rock and believe it or not, emo in this music. But, don't let either of those dissuade you from listening. You will be bowled over by the violin acting as the lead throughout most of these songs.
Really, this kind of gave me an idea of what Camper van Beethoven might sound like if they were crossed with black midi and Black Country, New Road. On the Bandcamp page, the release notes mention that a Polish website had this to say: “the first association that comes to mind is The Ex and the Dutch avant punk scene of the 1980s, but fans of the bands Dirty Three, Godspeed You Black Emperor and Unwound may also be intrigued.”
The liner notes also revealed that The Intima played with Q and Not U and Deerhoof. All of that name dropping should give you an idea of how uncategorizable this is.
The reissue was released last year by Post Present Medium.

Godspeed you! Black Emperor @ Kino šiška
25th of April 2024
Second time I saw this legendary group and this time their setlist was even better than the last time. I went with my colleagues from the radio station because we were covering it for an online review and when we came to the venue I was surprised to see my younger bro and his gf who also attended the same concert. It was a fun night and this group still got it (plus THE VISUALS UGHHHH) but I remember being stressed over some assignments for uni so I was kinda not able to relax completely.

I have the very last show at the legendary venue Speak in Tongues recorded on cassette & the band that played was Godspeed You! Black Emperor. i should probably transfer that to digital along with my band demos.
I got the cassette tape from someone in the mail after requesting that he send me a copy. I have no idea if the recording is online anywhere, but from what i can tell from the searching i've done, it is not. The show took place in 1999.
Interesting tidbit. Towards the end of the show the power kept flickering due to faulty management. Efrim from Godspeed was PISSED. He yelled at the venue & walked off stage, stopping the show. I remember the drummer apologizing profusely to the crowd, saying they'd make it up.
Also, they only did songs from Skinny Fists, which wasn’t recorded yet. I happy-wept through the whole show, shocked by what I was seeing. It was an emotionally overwhelming experience for me. I’ve never done that at a show since, & can count on one hand how many times i’ve shed a tear at any one show.

TW: Distressing scenes in general, news footage so never graphic but depictions of things like war, gunfights, train crashes, racism, death, etc
youtube
My best friend (with some suggestions and ideas from me, but this is her work) made this music video of footage from all the shit that's come with the 2020s so far to the song "Dead Flag Blues" by Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and I have to say that it's an amazing, powerful piece of work that I had to share.
It can be hard to watch, but like life, it gets easier before it's over.
