Zechariah’s Redemption: From Doubt to Faith Through God’s Discipline
The story of Zechariah highlights his transformation from doubt to faith following God's discipline. Initially silenced due to disbelief, he ultimately obeyed God's command to name his son John, resulting in his ability to speak again.
The story of Zechariah is one of transformation—moving from doubt to faith and redemption. When the angel Gabriel first appeared to Zechariah, bringing the news that he and his wife Elizabeth would have a son in their old age, Zechariah struggled to believe it. His doubt led to temporary silence, a period in which he could not speak until the promise was fulfilled. It may seem harsh, but God’s…

#DailyDevotion If Your God Promises You An Easy Life, It Isn't The Bible's God
#DailyDevotion If Your God Promises You An Easy Life, It Isn't The Bible's God Psalm 66 10But, O God, You have tested us; You have purified us like silver. 11You caught us in a net, and put misery on our bodies. 12You let men drive over our heads; we went through fire and water; but then You brought us out to have plenty. I think we are spoiled. There are a lot of Christians out there who think God's love means they should not undergo any hardship, any loss or any tribulation. Those that think this way, when God brings these things down upon them end up leaving God and becoming atheist. They didn't get what they wanted, when they wanted it, in the manner they wanted it. They were disappointed by a God that only exists in their imaginations. It isn't the biblical God. Here we God as He is and as He presents Himself. This is a God who tests us. Who sends us through the fires to purify us. He allows misery to come into our bodies. He allows us to be ruled by wicked and evil men. Did not Jesus promise us such things? Did He not teach us the Beatitudes where we are blessed with suffering, particularly with persecution for His name's sake. He promised us if we lose our life for His sake we will gain it. He promised to bring a sword and not peace into our lives if we became His disciples. Peter in his epistles reminds us the sufferings we undergo are purifying our faith. Paul reminds us the misery and suffering God brings into our life are to develop in us perseverance, character and hope. It is preparing us to bear the weight of eternal glory. Hebrews reminds us that God disciplines us like sons so we may bear the fruit of eternal righteousness. So no, don't expect an easy life if Christ Jesus is your God. On the other hand, the LORD did bring them into a land flowing with milk and honey. Through David, He brought peace and safety to the Israelites. In similar fashion, we Christians who remain faithful will inherit the earth, a new creation in which the effects of sin are no longer felt. We will see and dwell with God the Father and Christ Jesus. 13I will enter Your temple with burnt offerings and do for You what I vowed, 14what my lips said and my mouth promised when I was in trouble. 15I will sacrifice to You fattened livestock as burnt offerings, with the fragrant smoke of sacrificed rams. I will offer cattle and goats. What is our response to the great things God has done for us in Christ Jesus? Is it not offering Him up songs and prayers of thanksgiving and praise. We don't do animal sacrifice anymore. We do open up our wallets and check-books and make sacrifices. It's not that God needs it. If He needed our wealth, He would just take it. It is for our spiritual good that we sacrifice our wealth. It is a spiritual necessity to demonstrate our faith in God and His continued providence. Sure, the Church uses it to build and maintain places where we can hear God's word, be taught God's word and receive His gifts to us in the sacraments. It provides a living to the one God has called to deliver these spiritual blessings to us. But it is for our good, for our spiritual growth to make such sacrifices. If we did not, we would be teaching our sinful flesh that wealth is more important than God. It is more trustworthy than God. It would be teaching us that wealth brings and gives us all good things. We end up making wealth our God in place of God. This is why it is a good thing to sacrifice it, offering it up to God through the Church and those we meet along the way in need of material goods. Heavenly Father, we thank You for the great salvation You have given us. Give us Your Holy Spirit that we may recognize the trying things in life as coming from Your loving hand to purify our faith, to discipline us and to prepare us for the world to come. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

The Disciple of the Heavy Hand of God | 1 Samuel 5
How do you respond to God's discipline?
Welcome to the Daily Devo. I am Vince Miller.
This week, we are reading 1 Samuel 5. This chapter recounts the Philistines' capture of the Ark and the subsequent divine intervention that led it back to its rightful place. I've titled this chapter "Clearing The Path To Glory."
At the end of the last chapter and the beginning of this chapter, Israel has sustained severe losses. The wife of Phinehas summarized it well:
The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has been captured. — 1 Samuel 4:22
The sad ending in Chapter 4 marks an abrupt conclusion to a once glorious period for Israel. It represents a dark time of profound loss for God's people. If you have experienced a similar moment in your life, you understand the feeling it brings. These moments are characterized by darkness and overwhelming despair, often leaving one uncertain of how to react.
But then we come upon the key verse of Chapter 5. Verse 6 reads:
The hand of the Lord was heavy against the people of Ashdod, and he terrified and afflicted them with tumors, both Ashdod and its territory. — 1 Samuel 5:6
The "heavy hand of God" is the great metaphor of this chapter. It describes God's tangible involvement in human affairs in profound and mysterious ways. But this metaphor takes us back to another place where similar language was used—Egypt. In the book of Exodus, God's "heavy hand" is displayed numerous times through mighty plaques against the Pharaoh that deliver his people from bondage (Exodus 3:19-20; 6:1; 9:3; 15:6-7). God's "heavy hand" had been an image of the forceful discipline he used to bring about his glory.
Thus, in the previous chapter, we witness God's "heavy hand" against Israel. Then, in this chapter, we witness His "heavy hand" against the Philistines. I couldn't help but notice that Israel regrets God's "heavy hand" against them but then relishes His "heavy hand" against others.
God disciplines us all. Sometimes, his hand is heavy, and other times, it is light. He disciplines us in public or private, great or small, and it always has a purpose. His discipline directs us to his glory. You see, God's glory never fades, but we fail to reflect it. He does not need us to sustain it, but he does want us to know it, enjoy it, celebrate it, praise it, never abuse it, use it, misuse it, and defame it. The key is submitting to his discipline.
In Chapter 5, we will see the Ark of God move from Philistine town to town until it returns to Shiloh. (There is a map in the video today illustrating the journey). It is carried from Shiloh to battle at Ebenezer. Then, it is captured and taken into Philistine territory in Ashdod. Then, it is carried down to Gath, next to Ekron, and finally returned to Shiloh. Some mysterious "heavy-handed" events occur that hold fascinating lessons for us.
And you will have to join us for the next six days to discover them.

Ask This: How do you typically respond when faced with challenges or discipline, whether from God or otherwise?
Reflecting on Israel's journey with the Ark in 1 Samuel 5, what lessons can you apply to your life regarding embracing God's discipline and seeking His glory? Do This:
Submit to God's discipline and know his Glory.
Pray This:
Lord, help me to embrace Your discipline with humility and trust, knowing that Your guiding hand leads me closer to Your glory each day. Grant me the wisdom and strength to learn from Your lessons and reflect Your love to those around me. Amen.

The most ridiculous and painful prayer ever uttered. If those seven words and the faith beneath them were enough to carry Jesus through the cross for my sake, they should be enough to carry me through anything for His sake... "I know You're good, but this don't feel good right now And I know You think, things I could never think about Its hard to count it all joy, distracted by the noise Just trying to make sense of all your promises Sometimes I gotta stop Remember that You're God and I am not SO THY WILL BE DONE -Hillary Scott #thywillbedone #godsdiscipline

A Word from Pastor Mark June 2020
Did you know that God has a goal for your life? And every day God is working on this goal? God’s goal is to make you like Jesus. Romans 8:29 (NLT), “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son…” When you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord you be-come God’s child. But becoming God’s child does not automatically make you like Jesus.
Becoming like Jesus requires more than time. You do not become like Christ automatically the longer you are a Christian. To become like Jesus requires the loving discipline or correction of the Lord.
Just as it is necessary for good parents to discipline their children so it is neces-sary for God to discipline His children Satan is our adversary. He is the deceiver who tries to get us to believe lies about God. When Christians struggle and are going through tough times, Satan whispers in our ears that God doesn’t love us. He lies and says that if you are God’s child then you shouldn’t suffer. That life is to be carefree for the Christian.
If you believe what Satan teaches then when God disciplines His children you will believe the lie that it is proof that He hates you; that He is angry with you. The truth is the exact opposite. And the writer of Hebrews wants to prove it. In Hebrews 12:3–12 (ESV), the writer lays out two reasons for God’s discipline. God’s discipline is evidence of His love. And, God’s discipline is evidence that we are His children.
We should not see God’s discipline as cause for discouragement, but as a sign of God’s determined love to make us like Jesus.”
So if you are under God’s discipline; or when you fall under God’s discipline don’t forget that this means that He loves you. You are His child. And He is not causing needless pain.
Remember it is for your good. Remember it is being administered by a good, good Father who never disciplines out of anger or spite or vindictiveness. So cling to God and seek His strength and endurance to hold up under it. Seek His wisdom to un-derstand what aspect of your character He is working on. Accept what comes from His loving hands- knowing that you are becoming like His perfect Son Jesus.

#DailyDevotion God Does Not Give Up On His Wicked People Without A Fight
#DailyDevotion God Does Not Give Up On His Wicked People Without A Fight Psalm 50 16But God tells the wicked: "What business is it of yours to recite My laws and talk about My covenant? 17You hate to be corrected, and toss My words behind you. 18When you see a thief, you want to be with him and share the life of adulterers. 19You let your mouth talk evil, and your tongue plans deceit. 20You sit and talk against your brother, slandering your own mother's son. Just who are these wicked people God is talking to? His own holy people. These are the people He has chosen from all the people in the world to be His own people. Yet as we see, they are not acting like God's people. Well they have a veneer of being God's people. That is why He asks them, "What business is it of yours to recite My laws and talk about My covenant?” These people have the appearance and even the sound of God's people but they do not have faith in the LORD. They do not fear, love and trust in Him. They talk all the time about God's commandments. They talk about His covenant. But when the rubber hits the road, it's like nothing they forget everything they said. The LORD charges them with seeing a thief and adulterers and then going and joining them instead of rebuking, reproving and correcting them. These are just examples. Their mouths talk evil and tongues plan deceit. They talk against their brother. Family really means nothing to them. They themselves mean everything to themselves. Do you Christian do this? Do you talk a good game around your fellow Christians but then go and join wicked doers when you see them? Do you lie, cheat and steal? Do you honor your mother and father? In what ways would the LORD be addressing you today? Think about it. Confess it. Turn back to the LORD Jesus Christ and His ways. 21You do this, and should I say nothing? You plan to destroy; should I be like you? I will correct you and lay it before your eyes. 22Consider this, you who forget God, or I'll tear you in pieces and no one will rescue you. The book of Hebrews says in chapter 10, “29How much worse a punishment do you think he will deserve who tramples on God's Son, treats as an unholy thing the blood of the testament that made him holy, and insults the Spirit of grace? 30We know Him Who said: 'I have the right to punish: I will pay back,' and again: “The Lord will judge His people.” 31It is terrifying to fall into the hands of the living God.” God does not ignore the sins of His people. He does not ignore your sins. He sees what you are doing and not confessing as sin. He sees you turning away from Him and towards worldly pleasures. Do you think He is going to let you go without a fight? God will correct you. He will discipline you so don't completely fall away. However, should you refuse His discipline and set your heart on the ways of the world destruction awaits you. 23If you bring your thanks as a sacrifice, you can honor Me. If you set your life in order, I will have you drink your fill of God's salvation.” Here our LORD Jesus Christ shows us the love and mind of God. He does not want us to perish. He does not want us to suffer for all eternity. He wants to accept you back into His life. The Father has given us Jesus as the atoning sacrifice for our sin. He is here calling us to offer thanksgiving for the repentance and salvation He offers us freely. Faith then begets right living. As we thirst for righteousness, He has us drink our fill of God's salvation. Merciful God and Father, grant us repentance of life that we may turn from the world and turn to You and Your Son Jesus Christ with repentance and faith so we may drink of Your salvation. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article
