We Do the Will of our Heavenly Father to Enter into the Kingdom of the Heavens
ï»ż In order for us to enter into the kingdom of the heavens, we need to not only call on the name of the Lord but even more, do the will of the heavenly Father, for it is possible for us to do things in Godâs name yet not be approved by Him, for we do not do it in Him, with Him, and in His perfect will. Wow! Oh, Lord Jesus! Today we as believers in Christ need to live in the reality of the kingdomâŠ

Afab people can also develop a gendered subjectivity in response to transmisogyny, whether they've been victims of it or not, just as amab people can develop it as a result of misogyny. So, if transfemininity is also defined by this characteristic, afab transfem also fit into it. Your objection to this fact is just a bias based, at best, on ignorance.
-
It's is a bioessentialist prescription because you're adopting a conception of transfemininity that dictates that to be transfeminine, you have to fulfil to expectation of being male assignment at birth. this is no different from someone who uses the bioessentialist conception of womanhood which require female assignement at birth. Both are form bioessentialism that we should not perpetuate at our level, but rather we should re-thinking these gender categories in a way that doesn't align with bioessetialist conceptions
whoops! you caught me out aha. I forgot that afab trans people have subjectivities shaped by transmisogyny. I also forgot that cis womanhood is defined in large part thru transmisogyny: the fear of being clocky, constant affirmation by distancing from the tranny-object except when it's hot to have a bit of a jawline now, palatability as opposition to the monstrosity of being the shemale. I guess cis women are transfeminine too!
let's remember, while we're at it, that transmisogyny is the spectre that haunts the subject of the cis man. the gendered border policing lest one take a step too close to sissification, the prohibition on behaviour that could threaten to make him a girlâoh! cis men are transfeminine too!
in fact, we're all transfeminine! transmisogyny, as the recognition and attempted correction of the tranny-glitch that undoes the threads of gender, asserts itself against all of us. it is impossible to be a gendered subject without having contours shaped by the domineering pressures of transmisogyny, because that is what demands we all fall in line to the gendered nightmare. oops! all transfem!
but wait. a certain group, deprived now of unique identification, has just lost the ability to describe its gendered situation. it has been swallowed up by the seas of inclusive thinking or whatever. I guess that's okay :) I guess we'll drop our complaints :) we were a nuisance in the first place, weren't we? sorry. so sorry for existing this way.
listen to me. listen to me not as your fucking ephemeral gender oracle telling you what you want to hear before being thrown away, not as your bullshit mouthpiece granting you entrance to this mystical domain you want to claim for yourself, but as a god damn person for onceâan impossible thing to ask of the transmisogynistic tranny wannabe, I know, but try!
you cannot escape hegemonic gender and its violent devices with flaccid platitudes about "re-thinking these gender categories" as though by changing the names of things you can change the things themselves. transmisogyny is the bioessentialism, and transmisogyny is why I am a failed manâthe faggot embodiedâsomething less than both man and womanâa gender traitor specifically against my assignment itself. and if you cannot recognize the unique ways that transmisogyny is deployed unrelentingly and irrevocably against the ones who will never be able to resort to birth assignment as a defenseâagainst the ones who cannot throw their hands up and say, "I was never supposed to be a man in the first place!"âyou have not understood the first thing about the root source of transmisogyny, and it is no surprise to me that you have no sense of transfemininity as a political category, a(n un)gendered class.
#ask answer#what is it with the tranny wannabes stuffing their heads so far up their own asses they become fucking klein bottles#no more patience for this nonsense#but to my moots who are girlies dolls transfems tma whatever i love u all

Please know that gaining weight is not a bad thing, especially in this story. Relationship weight can be positive and food is here to nourish your body! Also know that everyoneâs body is different. Our bodies will react to things in different, unique ways. If youâre ever feeling icky about your weight/health, please take a step back, breathe, and know that youâre beautiful no matter what. There are also sources out there that can help you if your thoughts overpower your heart. Please donât hesitate to seek help.
word count: 4.3k
To all my food-lovers and fellow plus-size girlies, kisses to you! Youâre beautiful!
SPRING đ„
âBaby!â
You grinned as you heard Miguelâs shout from the front door. His voice had a giddy tilt as if he made a breakthrough in one of his projects.
âI was finally able to stop by the new Jamaican spot before they sold out and look what I got us,â Miguel says before he slides the take-out bags across the table. âRibs, oxtails, rice and beans, mac, and your favoriteâŠfried plantains!â
You quickly untie the bags, happy to have a break from your research paper, and immediately get hit with the smell of spices both sweet and savory. âOh my god! That looks incredible.â
After frantically digging around for a plastic fork, you were finally able to pull a piece of meat off the oxtail. It looked mouth-watering and tender. One bite of the meat and youâre immediately groaning, slumped in your chair. You nod your head and scrunch your face, watching as the juice from the gravy soaks into the pieces of rice stuck at the bottom of the take-out plate.
âThat is so fucking good, Mig. No wonder thereâs never any combos left by the time you leave work.â
Miguel just watches you eat with a glint in his eyes, happy to see you so relaxed and enjoying the food. He reaches into the second bag, pulling out two bottles of juice, âAnd to make it better, I got their fruit juice, made fresh daily-â
âPassionfruit and mango flavor!â Your eyes got big as you jumped up and wrapped your arms around his neck. He knew how much of a juice fanatic you were, so this drink was just the cherry on top of the large ice cream sundae that was your generous boyfriend.
âThank you, baby,â you giggled and gave his cheek a fat smooch. You patted his chest twice and moved back to set up the table, âNow, hurry and wash up so we can eat this before it gets cold! Weâve got shows to watch.â
âEntendido, Iâll be right backâ
SUMMER đŠ
You and Miguel were walking hand in hand along the Cancun Hotel Zone, taking in all the sights. Miguelâs job had given him a promotion along with an extremely high bonus, so what better way to celebrate than to use his PTO and bring the love of his life on vacation?
Granted, the area you guys were currently in was a little touristy, borderline bougie, but it was all worth it when Miguel got to see your eyes light up as you watched the turquoise waves fade into white foam along the shoreline.
You wobbled a bit while clinging to Miguelâs side, a little tipsy from the frozen paloma you drank to pair with todayâs lunch. It was a waterfront restaurant with a live band so the vibes were just right for a little bit of liquid fun.
The downside was that the two of you were supposed to meet up with Miguelâs family later that evening and while you were fine with the confidence boost you were sporting, you wanted to be more alert when speaking with loved ones. Plus, you needed to give a good impression to the relatives you hadnât met yet. It will be nice to put a face to the names of Miguelâs childhood.
âWhat do you say we stop and get some ice cream?â Miguel suggested, chuckling at you when you grinned up at him, ecstatic over the proposed plan.
âYou know me so well,â you said, arms reaching around his waist, face squished into the side of his chest. âI would absolutely love some ice cream. Cool me down from the inside.â
Miguel chuckled and kissed the top of your head. You were especially cute when you got like this.
FALL đ
âBaby, check this out,â Miguel shouted, finally returning to your table with your food.
The fair was packed full of people, especially due to the pop-up food truck festival happening that same week. You had never seen more people run to get fried turnip greens and loaded fries in your life.
Still, this was just another chance to hang out with Miguel. You really didnât care where you went with him, as long as you got to see that pretty smile.
You look down at the table and see what he brought back. Before your eyes sat the most un-Miguel order ever: birria pizza and two walking tacos, one Hot Cheetos and the other Dorritos.
âDorilocos, Miguel. Really?â you raised an eyebrow watching him try to steady the open chip bags over some spread-out napkins.
âAmor, donât look at me like that! I had to get them because Gabriel kept talking my ear off about this new food truck that made them better than the ones we used to eat on our trips back home. I, for one, donât believe that for a second, so what better way to test that theory than to eat it with my baby?â Miguel gave the saddest look he could muster and slid his hand across the table, trying to convince you to indulge with him.
âFine, fine. Donât give me that look,â you say, pulling off a slice of the pizza, making the cheese stretch as long as you can. âJust donât complain to me from the bathroom while your stomach fights to digest something it hasnât had in over a decade!â
Miguel pursed his lips while shoveling as much food as he could on one Doritto, âShouldnât I be the one telling you that? Thatâs a lot of cheese, babe.â
âOh my god, some queso tears up my stomach one time and you canât let that go, can you?â
âIt was once and yet you were in agony about it for days. I think Iâm allowed to remind you at least monthly.â
âJust eat your food and leave me and my iron stomach alone. Weâll see what happens between today and tomorrow,â you quip, pulling your phone out ready to record Miguelâs reaction to send to Gabriel.
Miguel takes a bite and just leans against the table, head slumped on his clean head.
âDios mio, he was right. This canât be happening,â he groaned, slightly annoyed that Gabriel wasnât exaggerating. He was also shocked at the fact that someone even came close to getting the local snack right.
You giggled behind your phone, happy that his reaction worked in your favor. You zoomed in a little more on his face, capturing him smacking his lips and licking off excess sauce. He was so zoned in on his food that he didnât even notice you with your phone up.
âIs it good, Mig?â you asked, mirth in your voice.
He looked at you ready to answer but his eyes snapped to your camera and started to whine, âAmor, please stop recording!â
With a small smile, you made sure to add the video to your folder full of Miguel. âIâm sorry, Iâm sorry. You just look so cute, I couldnât help it.â
Miguel just mumbled to himself while stacking up another chip, neck heated over the interaction. âHere, just try this,â he said, holding a nacho close to your mouth.
You opened your mouth, just barely getting the chip in. Cupping your hand under your head, you begin to hum, the flavors all tangy, spicy, and savory. âI donât know what your childhood Dorilocos tasted like, but this is really freaking good.â
âJust know that this one is only slightly better. By 0.00001% to be exact,â he said, rubbing sauce off of the corner of your lips and licking it off. The movement was muscle memory for him as he always liked to watch your face when you ate food, especially when it came to any nostalgic or homecooked dishes you never tried before. It warmed his heart to see you find comfort in his favorite foods.
âWell, I can tell you itâs 100% better than the âTaco Tuesdayâ luncheon my job hosted last month. Nothing but unseasoned ground beef, endless black olives, and store-bought guacamole for two hours,â you respond, shuddering at the memory of soppy taco shells and your coworkers complaining about how spicy the mild salsa was.
âOn second thought, this is absolutely a step up. Was the guacamole name brand at least?â He asked, peering up at you with a twist on his lips.
âIâm pretty sure it was a grocery store brand, so no.â
âDamn.â
WINTER đ«
You were at your apartment in your bed, completely covered under the comforter with a fluffy blanket on top.
It was snowing heavily outside and you were freezing. However, your heater tended to make your apartment feel like a sauna, so you kept snatching the blanket off only to put it back on minutes later. Plus, your cycle was here. Your cramps left you lying on your side, rolling back and forth between the cool side of the bed and the warm side.
Physically, you were exhausted, but mentally, you knew you had so much to get done.
Christmas was just around the corner but you still had so many presents left to buy and wrap. Your job was doing the dreaded Secret Santa gift exchange and you were stuck wondering what gift would appeal to the stuck-up director in the accounting department.
You and Miguel were also hosting a small Christmas party amongst your friends, and there was still food left to buy. To top it all off, you were worried about your gift for Miguel, wondering if a silly little apron saying âKiss me, Iâm Irishâ would hide the fact that you spent a ridiculous amount of money on some new tech he was eyeing.
You heard the apartment door open and close.
Knowing it was Miguel, you groan out dramatically.
He opens the bedroom door and peaks inside, âBaby?â
You just groan out again, âEverything hurts, Miggy.â
He comes up to bed and sits on the edge, âI know, amor. Iâm sorry.â He bends down to kiss your head. âWant me to plug up the heat pack?â
âYeah,â you say, leaning into his hands. When he gets up to grab the pack, you whine at his absence.
âI know, I know. Iâm coming back,â he says, voice soothing.
Instead of turning the pack on, he removes your covers and sits back down on the edge. You shiver a little bit and heâs quick to cover your body with his, rubbing the top of your head as he kisses your temple.
âAre you feeling too bad to eat something for me?â Miguel asks, the timber of his voice settling you.
You shake your head and lean in closer to him.
âI think I want some food,â you reply, squeezing his body. âI havenât eaten anything yet.â
Miguel tuts as he sits up and pulls you up with him, âThatâs no good, baby. You have to eat so you can feel better. Your body needs it.â
You groan again and put your face in his neck, not wanting to move.
âCome on,â Miguel says, rubbing you from your back to your leg. âI got you some soup and a grilled cheese.â
âDid you get the stuff for the hot chocolate bar? For the party?â you whisper.
âMm hm. Jumbo marshmallows included.â
You nuzzle his neck before you look at him, âCarry me to the kitchen?â
He makes a swift move to wrap your legs around his body and hike you up.
He gets up and holds you close, heading to the kitchen, âLetâs get some food in you, yeah?â
SPRING đ
The short spring break trip that Miguel surprised you with has been lovely. Miguel woke you with kisses down your body, taking you to the hilt with his mouth alone. You had to muffle your cries as to not disturb the neighbors in the inn. As his tongue danced inside of you, you gripped his hair with one hand and his head with your thighs. Miguel wouldnât want it any other way.
After his first course, Miguel treated you to breakfast on the balcony. You two enjoyed looking over the horizon as you ate yogurt parfaits and fluffy omelets.
Later on, the two of you enjoyed a few tours of the vineyard and the city. The sights were beyond compare and the atmosphere was serene.
âThank you so much for this Miguel,â you say, interrupting the silence.
âAnything for my lady,â he says back. âYouâre doing great work this semester so you need the break.â Miguel stopped and turned to you, wrapping his arms around your waist.
You leaned up and kissed him, hands warm on the sides of his face.
You both started to makeout for so long that Miguel forgot about the massage he had planned for you before tonightâs farm-to-table dinner.
Needless to say, he laid you out on your bed and oiled your body down. Your head was in your arms as rubbed his hands up and down your back. His hands were heaven and you felt like puddy by the time he flipped you over.
After he massaged your inner thighs he pounded you into the mattress. Something youâre sure the hired masseuse would never be able to do.
Miguel joked and called it the Miguel Magic Massage when you asked if he offered this special regularly. The price? Being his cariño, his amor, his sweetheart.
By the time dinner started, you were glowing. You felt adored and the courses were amazing.
Miguel made sure everyone knew you were his. His hand never left your thigh the entire meal, staring down the older men sitting at the end table who were looking a little too long at the dip of your dress.
You were oblivious, feeding Miguel bites occasionally and humming at how fresh and delicious everything was.
After the last course was over, the men came to you allâs side of the table quickly. All of them started to make conversation with you, plugging in their businesses, and stuffing their business cards in your hands.
It was as if Miguel was invisible. He scowls deeper when they let out hearty laughs at something you said.
âAre you fellas here with your wives?â Miguel asked loudly, completely irritated. âMy wife and I have really enjoyed our time here. Itâs a beautiful place for couples.â
Some of the men went red in the face flustered at Miguel catching their scheme. Others just scowled, pissed off at being interrupted.
None of them could answer his question.
You looked at Miguel, eyes heavy and relaxed.
âYou gentlemen have a great night,â you said, putting your hand in Miguelâs as he guided you to the exit.
âYour wife, huh?â you asked, core on fire. It was hot watching Miguel get so worked up over you.
âBaby, they were looking at you like you were some fresh meat. Like I wasnât even sitting there,â he grumbled.
âOne of them already offered to bring me on a cruise. Heâs staying right next to us,â you say, standing outside your room as Miguel swipes his card at the door. You walked your fingers up his chest, heated over the grit you could see from his profile.
He was oh so upset.
âHeâs next to us? Right here?â Miguel asked, voice low.
You nodded as you bit your lip, arm around his neck.
Miguel picked you up and dragged you to the bed. You giggled a little to yourself as he plopped you down. Mission accomplished. Silently, you thank those older men. If it werenât for their overconfidence, Miguel wouldnât have been tearing at your clothes like he us right now.
Miguel kept you up almost that whole night, making sure that the neighbors heard your cries. Those old geezers were sure to know his name by the next morning. Buying you a ring wasnât enough. He needed a bat.
It was all worth it to see the tired and flushed looks of their faces when you all checked out the next day.
SUMMER đŻ
âWhat the fuck,â you mumble, looking down at the pair of jeans you were trying to put on.
It was early morning. You had a family reunion that you and Miguel would take a bit of a drive to get to.
You made sure that everything was packed the following night. Some clothes to stay for a few days, a few snacks for the road, a book for you to catch up on, and even a crossword puzzle book for Miguel.
You planned ahead. You were diligent. So why is it that when everything else is going right, your pants decide not to button up?
You pulled at the flaps once more, trying your hardest to connect the button with the hole. It fails as they slip from your grasp. You try again, sucking in your stomach as much as you could. You get the button to snap in this time, but itâs digging unbearably into your skin. The zipper fights against you as you try to pull it up.
You huff out in frustration and the pants snap open again.
Defeated, you let out a watery sigh and look in the mirror.
Your stomach was bigger than you last remembered, fupa a little more prominent. Your thighs were also a little thicker, the jeans hugging them a little tight. Your breasts looked a little big in your shirt. The family name stretches a bit more across your bust than the original design intended. Even your face was a little chubbier than normal. When was the last time your jaw was like this? High school?
When did you get like this?
You felt your throat start to burn, a sob building in your system. Youâve always been fine with your body, loving the dips and curves. Adoring your flaws and finding beauty in what society decides is not worthy.
You knew this. You knew that you were beautiful. Why was it so hard to get that thought into your conscience?
You felt the tears roll down as you peeled the jeans off of your legs. They were especially tight at your hips and you wondered how you even forced them past in the first place.
You didnât know what to do. It was so hot outside, so you needed something comfortable, but those jeansâŠyou had your mind set to wear those jeans.
You rummage through your closet in frustration, pushing and pulling the clothes across the rack.
By the time Miguel found you, you were squatting in the closet, hot tears covering your face.
âBabe, itâs been almost 30 minutes and we need to head out before the work traffic starts-â
Miguel stopped in the doorway as he noticed the state of the closet, âHey, hey, whatâs wrong? ÂżQue pasĂł, cariño?â
You wipe furiously at your face, sniffling loud as you hear Miguel push clothes to the side to get to you.
âMy pants donât fit. I donât think anything else will fit either,â you say, stuttering out your words as Miguel gets to your side.
You let him pull you up into a standing position. You felt defeated.
Miguel looked at you and wiped away the tears that you missed. You feel horrible as your face scrunches up again, tears forming in your eyes.
âNo, no, no,â Miguel says, hugging you close. âListen to me. I know that this feels like a lot, but this is normal. Your body will always change with you. Youâre still the same beautiful, gorgeous woman I met years ago and thatâs not changing because you got some extra hips, baby.â
âBut Miguel,â you say, voice so sad. âI feel like I just got those pants. And. Nothing else in here goes with this shirt. Iâm scared that nothing else will fit-â
âAnd if thatâs the case, Iâll buy you new clothes,â Miguel says, pressing kisses over your face. âIf these clothes mean that much to you, Iâll take you to the gym. Let me work out with you, but until then, Iâm loving your body as is.â
You stare at Miguel, heart beating at his revelation. He stared right back at you, daring you to question or challenge his words.
âDonât beat yourself up over something like this. If anyone has ever let you feel insecure about your body, theyâre an ass, let me deal with them. If I ever do anything to make you feel insecure, tell me. Yell at me. Question me, because as far as Iâm concerned, thatâs not me.â
He hiked you up on the closet island in the middle of the room. You shiver a bit as your naked legs hit the wood.
He leans closer, placing his hands on the side of you, âNow, letâs think. Donât you have a pair of cargo shorts that match the ones Iâm wearing right now?â
You whisper out a yes.
âWould you be ok with wearing those? Iâm sure they fit perfectly.â
You say yes again, head leaning onto his. You could accessorize it perfectly. It would make a great coupleâs look.
Miguel knew this much, he just had to get you to see it.
âI love you, ok?â he says, voice clear.
âI love you, too. Thank you,â you say.
âAnything for my girl,â Miguel says. âMy beautiful girl. Sheâs just for me. I canât believe it.â
Your heart beats faster as he starts to kiss down your body.
âHer face is so lovely.â A kiss to your cheek and your lips.
âSheâs always working so hard.â A kiss to your neck and your collarbone. He pulls your shirt over your head.
âShe makes me so happy.â A suck to your breasts as he unclasps your bra.
âHer body is beyond comparison.â A trail of kisses down your stomach, your belly twitching as his breath twinkles on along your skin. âSoft. Amazing. Irresistible.â
âHer thighs are my earmuffs.â A caress to your inner thighs. Your legs snap a bit, ticklish at his ministrations.
âMiguel?â you whimper out.
âI have to relax you before this ride. Canât have you upset,â he says, kissing his way up your thighs to your panties. âMay I?â
You nod your head, fingers grasping at nothing but then a flat surface.
Miguel was swift. He pulled your underwear down and kissed at your clit. You could only hold tight as he pulled your body forward and dove in.
It wasnât long before you were shaking like a leaf. Miguel sucked at you for minutes, pulling a long orgasm out of your system.
He kneaded your thighs as you trembled around his tongue, humming as your legs squeezed tighter. That was the queue for him to go further, so he added his fingers to the mix, moving his mouth up so that his fingers could pump in and out of you.
It took all of your strength not to let your body drop off the other side of the island.
âMiggy, please,â you wailed. You wanted more.
Miguel looked up at you whining above him. You pull your legs up, holding your hands under your thighs, practically begging for him.
Miguel kissed up your body again. He was swift with removing his clothes. You still had to have these clothes fresh for later and Miguel was about to wear you out.
He moved to push himself inside of you, grunting as you gripped him.
He replaced your hands with his and pulled your legs up by his head. You balanced yourself on the island as he slowly started to thrust.
âSo good. Just for me,â Miguel said, watching as your body moved with his movement. âPerfect. And all mine.â
You remained quiet, whimpering softly as he dragged against you.
âYou heard me, hermosa?â Miguel said. âYouâre beautiful. Câmon. Say it for me.â
âIâm,â you stopped, mind foggy. You didnât know how you were supposed to respond when he was going so deep.
âSay it.â
You cried out as he snapped harder, âIâm beautiful.â
âThatâs right baby,â Miguel praises you, bending further to give you a kiss. âSo amazing.â
He praised you until you finished, squeezing at any of you that he got his hands. By the time he was done, your arms felt like jelly from holding you up.
He carried you to the bathroom for a quick shower, never stopping his reassurances of you.
You guys made it in the car an hour and a half off schedule, but it was worth it for the uplifted way you carried yourself throughout the day.
It was worth it to see you happy and healthy.
By the time you made it to the reunion, it was like you were born anew. You greeted your family with smiles and laughter. Miguel couldnât help but to cheese watching you do your thing.
He felt his heart soar as you caught up with family. Your smile was the biggest as you were out on the floor line dancing your heart out. He was right up behind you when Outstanding came on. The song was really a declaration of how he felt about you.
You giggled as he crooned in your ear.
âYou light my fire,â he sang, swinging your hips in time with his.
âI feel alive with you, baby,â he spins you around to him, a smile on his face.
âYou blow my mind,â he pulled you out and back in.
âIâm satisfied,â you squeal as he spins you in the air and puts you back down to keep dancing.
Outstanding. You really knock him out.
Another season where Miguel adored you more.
Another season where Miguel wanted you to be forever his.
Another season where he made sure he fed you well.
Another season of you making his heart pound.
Another season of your love reaching to the fullest.
Miguel was excited for the next season with you.
As always, I hope you enjoyed reading! đ
Any likes, reblogs, and comments are always appreciated. Let me know how you feel! đ„șđ§
Until next time,

I'm not sure I have anything interesting to say about it, but I am very intrigued by the way The Locked Tomb portrays cavaliers, necromancers and lyctorhood as relationships.
First of all, Necromancer+Cavalier is a metaphor for marriage, that's obvious table stakes. It's explicitly non-romantic (or should be, anyway, in the way the society there has constructed it), but it is intense, highly devoted, starts with a vow, goes "til death do us part" ("one flesh, one end").
In the series Cavalier and Necromancer are a form of gender roles, and they map incredibly well onto the most stereotypical gender roles we have in our society. The Cavalier has stereotypical masculine traits: The fighter, the protector, up on the front lines, physically active. The Necromancer has stereotypical feminine traits: Weak, frail, but whatever the necromantic equivalent of nurturing is, with power over death and life. In the mythology and "gender roles" of the nine houses, necromancy is sort of not quite but still a bit equivalent to "the mystical power of women to bring forth life". And yes, this is all very conservative and cishet-normative and so on.
Of course the books then immediately, from moment one, subvert this on at least three different layers.
The first layer is that the feminine-coded Necromancer is the head of the deadly family in the society, and the masculine-coded Cavalier is the support, the disposable one.
The other layer is that the book distributes the roles of Necromancer and Cavalier basically randomly across the actual genders of the characters. There are male necromancers, female cavaliers, plenty of same-sex pairings and so on.
But the biggest and most important inversion is that when we first meet the nine houses, ten thousand years after a cow-murdering Twitch streamer destroyed the world, nobody actually follows that role assignment to the letter. All the different houses have very different ideas of how Necromancer and Cavalier works in practice.
For example, Abigail Pent and Magnus Quinn are just straight-up married. Their work relationship is romantic, and while that's considered a bit weird by their society, it makes it clear that it can go on like this.
We are actually told that there was something going on in the second house, too, where Judith fell in love with Marta, but there she was gently rebuked and they were just friends instead.
Over in the sixth, Camilla and Palamedes have the inversion of boy necromancer and girl cavalier, but most importantly they have their own very QPR style of relationship that is unique to them and does not fit into either our society's traditional idea of romantic relationship, nor their society's traditional idea of what Necromancer and Cavalier should be like.
The seventh house leans into the frail necromancer/strong protector idea the most, except for [spoilers for the final third of Gideon].
The eighth house leans fully into the idea that the relationship is one-sided, that the cavalier is disposable, and jumps straight off the deep end by making the cavalier genetically bred to be nothing more than a power source.
The third house I've left out so far because, dear god, what even is going on there?
And finally, of course, the ninth, who are technically, strictly speaking, if we're following the metaphor to its logical end, doing a "fake married to lovers" plot.
So with that out of the way, let's look at Lyctorhood. Lyctorhood is fundamentally the final test, the final form of the Necromancer/Cavalier relationship as embedded in that society: The Cavalier has completely dissolved in the marriage, making their "spouse" all-powerful, but ending their own existence. That's the standard of the society as presented to the characters when they discover it, and all of them very quickly have their own ideas about it..
Most characters we know from Canaan House don't actually get that far (and to be fair, I think many of them would not have anything that interesting to say about it), but the ones who do are interesting:
Ianthe is physically repulsed by the idea of healthy relationships, so she has no problem eating Babs for power.
Gideon and Harrow are deeply in love, deeply devoted to each other, and deeply dysfunctional in their own ways, and Harrow manages to find a way to continue a dysfunctional horrible situationship with massive communication issues into Lyctorhood.
Cam and Pal find a different thing entirely, still recognisable as a take on Lyctorhood but also not at all. Instead of one absorbing the other, they fuse into a single new person together, but also in some ways dying in the process.
And it turns out even the older lyctors may not have worked quite as originally designed, with Pyrrha Dve still hanging around in Gideon the First and then finding her own way in Nona the Ninth. Throughout Nona it becomes obvious what was hinted at throughout most of Harrow: Lyctorhood is really just one of many ways for two people to become one. It is not the purest and best form of "one flesh, one end", just the best Johnny Boy could think of. Left to their own devices, we see people left and right figure out new ways to be together as one regardless of what society and God thinks of them.
This is really a key question of the book series: What does it mean for two people to become one? Well, it's up to them, and listening to what God has to say about it is probably not the best way to go. It'll make you end up like Ianthe. Do you want to be Ianthe? Actually don't answer that.

Do you think The Moons in Elden Ring only communicate with certain people?
It could explain how Count Ymir sees the Moon as just a Celestial Body and not a divine figure.
hmm thatâs a good question; it does seem like Rennala, Rellana, and Ranni have a special affinity with the moon⊠Iâm not sure that this is because the moon only communicates with them though, because I donât believe the moon is a god, at least not in the same sense that the goddess of rot or the Formless Mother are gods?
Plenty of people draw power from the moon, including the Carian knights and preceptors (not just the royals), the sorcerers of the Lazuli Conspectus, the Nox, and perhaps Ranniâs mentor the Snow Witch⊠here the moon is used as a source of magic in the field of glintstone sorcery. There is a reason why glintstone sorceries and incantations are separate disciplines: sorceries are based on intelligence (study, research, self-discovery), and incantations are based on faith (belief in a higher power or force of nature). Lunar sorcery does not draw from faith like Bloodflame incantations or rot incantations do, which in my mind classifies it as a different sort of power than divine communion.
The way the moon is described in relation to Ranni, Rennala, and Rellana is that they âmetâ or âencounteredâ it:
âThe young astrologer gazed at the night sky as she walked. She had always chased the stars every step of her journey. Then she met the full moon â and, in time, the astrologer became a queen.â
âThis moon was encountered by a young Ranni, led by the hand of her mother, Rennala. What she beheld was cold, dark and veiled in occult mystery.â
âQueen Rennala encountered this enchanting moon when she was young, and later, it would bewitch the academy.â
âIn her childhood, she and her elder sister Rennala met these moons. Overlapping, as though nestled against one another.â
But Iâve never interpreted this as a god selecting champions to enact its will, but more like a fateful discovery of a source of great power? Rennala and Rellana were astrologers, who read fate within the stars, when they encountered their moons⊠it seems to me that thereâs an element of fate or destiny involved in connecting with the moon, but not necessarily personified divinity? I bet the Carian royals are like uniquely fated individuals⊠like how Sellen says âThe stars alter the fate of the Carian royal family.â Also, Rennalaâs description of chasing the stars and one day meeting the moon, and Ranniâs description of encountering the dark moon led by her motherâs hand also suggests to me a proactive arc of personal discovery and study rather than a god who chooses a person and communicates their divine will to them (such as the Formless Mother).
I think the reason why Count Ymir âabandoned his allegiance to the moonâ because "It was merely the closest of the celestial bodiesâ is a combination of the fact that he doesnât have this seemingly fated connection to the moon, and the fact that his interests go much further than the moon⊠heâs interested in the origins of life itself:
âI, too, am a glintstone sorcerer. We study the stars, and examine the life therein. Are you familiar with our findings? Long ago, we began as stardust, born of a great rupture far across the skies. We, too, are children of the Greater Will. Is that not divine? Is that not sublime? ...and yet, none can fathom its implications, its utter brilliance!â
and so is Sellen, who studies the primeval current:
âOur powers draw upon the powers embedded in glintstone, but what is the nature of such power? Glintstone is the amber of the cosmos, golden amber contains the remnants of ancient life and houses its vitality, while Glintstone contains residual life. And thus, the vitality of the stars. It should not be forgotten that glintstone sorcery is the study of the stars and the life therein.â
So I can understand why these characters would spurn the study of the moon as a trivial topic, instead exploring topics that get to the very heart of the nature of life and where we come from.
idk if I actually answered your question⊠I guess in a way, I believe the moon only communicates with certain people⊠but I think itâs more like, Rennala and Rellana, after tirelessly pursuing the knowledge of the stars, met the moon in a fated encounter and gained the ability to understand and tap into its power (and passed this on to Ranni), not that the moon is a sentient being that chooses champions to enact its will. Whether this still counts as being a god or being divine is up to personal interpretation I think, but the moon is at the very least a totally different sort of power than the confirmed outer gods we know of, and Ranni has a totally different sort of relationship to the moon than Mohg has to the Formless Mother.
#elden ring#ranni#rennala#rellana#count ymir#like i dont believe ranni killing her two fingers and creating an age of stars is just her switching out one god for another#lunar magic is SORCERY⊠itâs based on intelligence! not faith! it is a field of study and personal discovery!#the autonomy ranni craves is built into this concept of personal discovery!#shes not just blindly taking orders from another god lol#asks

An Open Letter to Neil Gaiman in the wake of the Allegations
Mr. Gaiman,
There's a likely chance you will never see this, so this is as much for my fellow heartbroken fans and for myself as it is for you. Many of us feel the need to process this in the spaces we share--the spaces where we so often shared our love and admiration for your work: for the worlds you created that we have shared, enjoyed, and explored together. My name is Cassie. I'm a teacher. I too am a storyteller, a wordsmith, a lover of knowledge. I teach mythology, history, and ancient languages--subjects which I saw woven into your writings. It is my joy and privilege to share these subjects and my passion for them with young minds, just as it has been yours to share your love and passion through your mastery and craftsmanship with words and the research you wove into the words you built.
Why do I point out these similarities? Because while we are not the same, we share a great responsibility. I inspire young minds, and in turn, there are times when I see the admiration in my students' faces. Some of them look up to me. They see me as a source of knowledge, wisdom (though god knows I don't have much), and stability. They rely on me to create a space where their curiosity and enthusiasm can flourish. I see the way some of my students light up when they see me, how they love to share their discoveries with me, and sometimes they gift me with their precious trust.
It would be easy for me to lead those students where I wanted. The ones who look at me with trust and excitement in their eyes when I affirm them-- the ones who see me as someone to admire, someone whose praise they want to earn. Because they are young and impressionable--yes. But also, because I have been gifted this role in their lives. Some of them would be excited if I invited them to a personal dinner at my house. Some of them would see that as a reward to be desired, would be eager to go on a drive alone with me.
And yet, I suspect you know that it would be wrong for me to give my students special alone time or special gifts. That it would tarnish the safety of my relationship with that young person. That it would open them up to exploitation at my (or another teacher's) hands. Even if I mean well, it teaches that young mind that special alone time is okay, and that they can accept it safely. A young person who is taught that such attention is safe, who receives that attention--that one on one praise and affirmation--may cast aside their doubts or worries and chase after it, craving the promise of being unique, of being chosen by someone they trust and admire.
It is my job to teach them that safe adults--safe authorities--will never offer or ask for that, will never put them in a situation where they have no other safe adult or authority in their confidence regarding their relationship with you. That they must steer clear of the promise of "special" attention from an authority like that.
You, Mr. Gaiman, are the man against whom I warn my students.
You were given a precious gift. You were able to bless countless young minds with the experience of a fantasy world, of mesmerizing stories that inspired their imagination, made them laugh and cry and dream. Young people admired and idolized you, and when they came to you at fan events or crossed paths with you, they saw you-- just as my students see me--as someone whose praise and attention was to be desired.
You took that trust, and you used it to your advantage. You saw a young soul that looked at you with admiration of a student, of someone who wants to learn from you. You used that innocence, that ignorance, to take pleasure for yourself at their expense. There was a power dynamic between you and your fans: young women who wanted to be close to a person they admired--who believed you to be wiser, smarter, more gifted than themselves. You did not honor it. You did not treasure it. You used it. And you used it again and again and again.
Mr. Gaiman, I believe your victims. But please understand. Even had you not ignored their "no"-- even had you not gone to physical extremes that caused them harm and trauma, even had you only engaged in what were (according to the law) permissible sexual relationships -- in my eyes, you would still be reprehensible.
I am a teacher. It is my job to protect these young minds. If my students ever ask about or speak about you, in my classroom and in my school as far as I am concerned, you will be nothing more than a cautionary tale. You will be the example of a man (or woman) whom I must teach them to regard with suspicion. You committed an act which I consider most disturbing for a person of my profession. You used the precious, beautiful trust of a young mind to your own gain.
I hope that your public reputation is so damaged that no other young woman will venture into your snares again. But if someone does, please read my words.
When you see that starstruck look in a young person's eyes, see the joy and admiration, remember this: She sees you with the eyes of a child; the youthful excitement of meeting someone who is, in her mind, greater than her.
Nurture and protect that young mind. Model how a true leader responds to trust. Be the sort of man who deserves that admiration. Remember that the look in her eyes is its own reward. Be sure that she knows there are no secrets between you, that she is never alone with you, and remember-- when someone admires you that way, no matter whether she is of legal age, she will always be as a child before you.
As someone who fosters young minds, I am profoundly disappointed in you.
You do not deserve a second chance. But if you ever get one, do better.
Sincerely, A former childlike admirer of your works

[ HoS ] ANCIENT EGYPTIAN AMULETS
The Isis knot is just as iconic as it is mysterious. It is unclear what this knot is meant to represent exactly: some Egyptologists argue it may have been a very ancient form of menstrual pad, while others believe it had religious or decorative purposes."
The Djed Pillar, representing Osiris' spine, is a powerful amulet used by both the living and the dead. Often made from various materials, it is also depicted in Egyptian art with a pair of hands and a feathered crown topped by the sun, symbolizing Osiris and divine resurrection.
The Ancient Egyptians believed the core of our intelligence and mind was the heart, rather than the brain. They couldnât determine this latter's purpose, so during the mummification process, they discarded it, pulling it out through the nose with a hook, leaving only the essential vital organs to be preserved for the afterlife. In fact, the heart was regarded as both the source of emotions and feelings, and the seat of one's entire beingâno wonder it was shaped like a vase!
Even those unfamiliar with Ancient Egyptian art recognize this iconic symbol. Over time, the Ankh, or 'Key of Life,' became synonymous with Egypt itself and its ancient religion. Some Egyptologists suggest that its shape may have been inspired by a knotted cloth, though its use was primarily decorative.
In some murals, strings of Ankh symbols were used to represent water, as it was the ultimate symbol of life for the Egyptiansâeverything originated from it, making the Ankh a fitting metaphor.
In other depictions, gods are shown 'spoon-feeding' pharaohs and the dead with an Ankh in their hands, symbolizing the soul being revived by the divine as it begins its journey to the afterlife."
One of the most common artifacts found by archaeologists during excavations, the Scarab is an iconic amulet that served many purposes for both the living and the dead.
In life, it was used as a seal, a protective amulet, or simply as jewelry, often worn as a ring or necklace, typically linked to a golden wire. In death, it was frequently placed around the neck and functioned as a protective charm for the heart, earning the name 'heart scarab.'
The scarab was the sacred animal of the god Khepri and symbolized the sun.
For the Ancient Egyptians, the soul was divided into several partsânine in total, including the physical body. It was crucial that each of these parts made it to the afterlife, allowing the dead to be reborn in the Duat, the Egyptian underworld. The Ba, which represents our unique personality, was often placed on the mummy's chest so it could rest near the heart, another key component of the soul.
In Ancient Egypt, the papyrus stem was a common decorative element. Temple columns were often shaped to resemble this iconic plant. Its frequent appearance in Egyptian art was partly due to its significant color: green, the color of resurrection, sacred to the god Osiris. By placing a papyrus-shaped amulet around a mummyâs neck, the Egyptians believed it would ensure eternal youth for the soul in the afterlife.
The Eye of Horus, modeled after the left eye of the falcon god of kingship, is one of the most iconic symbols of Ancient Egypt. Found in numerous tombs, it was continuously produced from the late Old Kingdom through to the Roman period. It served both as an amulet to ward off evil and as a decoration on boats and mummies. Representing the moon and the righteous nature of the god, it is also closely connected to other benevolent deities, such as Osiris, Thoth, and Ma'at. Tied to the story of Horus's restored eye, it became a symbol of health and healing.
Used exclusively in funerary contexts, this peculiar amulet depicts the index and middle fingers of a right hand, which were believed to 'heal' the incision made by embalmers to remove the mummyâs organs during the mummification process.

an analysis: piper calling percy unimpressive
(warning: i wrote this at 1 am)
so basically
remember how we all despised piper mclean when she had the audacity to call our beloved percy âunimpressiveâ and we all lost our shit on the inside a little bit?
i truly donât think she meant it in the way we think she did. i think weâre all just defensive of our boy.
piper clearly states that she is comparing percy to jason. first of all, jason is her boyfriend, so of course sheâs biased. second of all, hera was manipulating piper to be obsessed with jason. so other guys and girls are automatically unimpressive to her.
and hereâs the big thing: piper does not call him unattractive. she does not call him ugly. she simply says heâs not her type. piper is clearly attracted to the âgood boyâ look. jason is literally your all-american boy. heâs tall with light skin, a sturdy build, neat blonde hair, and blue eyes. part of why annabeth doesnât trust him is because she is unsettled by his âperfectâ appearance. jason is also obedient and well-mannered. heâs your standard good boy.
and the fact of the matter is: percy looks like a âbad boyâ. and often, he acts like one too. him and jason are contrasts of each other. a symbolic representation of this: their features. percy has a darker complexion, messy black hair, unique green eyes, and a âsarcastic troublemaker smile.â heâs muscular, but in a leaner and more trim way. heâs tall, but heâs not a towering muscleman by any means. not that jason is either, but donât forget, percy is a whole one. inch. (GASP) shorter than jason (which to me isnât even noticeable, so her pointing it out as a flaw just proves that sheâs so incredibly biased towards jason.) their other big contrasting feature: their personalities. jason is respectful and well-mannered. very obedient and under control. percy, however, makes jokes during inappropriate moments, talks back to people of power and authority, gets angry quickly, and loses control easily. i mean, literally right after she says this, percy starts insulting the roman god Bacchus and rapidly escalates a situation because of his natural instinct to be disobedient. piper is horrified by him doing this, especially because jason would never. does it make US all love percy very much? yes. but piper isnât us.
THAT SAID, even she canât actually call him unattractive. she even went as far to state that she can see why annabeth likes him, which means even her magically-obsessed-with-jason brain can still recognize his attractiveness and see why girls find him appealing. she calls him âcute in a scruffy way,â meaning she thinks that heâs got a disheveled attractiveness to him. she also once said that his pleading eyes are like a cute baby sealâs - even she canât deny that his eyes are wonderful. so even though piper calls him unimpressive, i think rick put in a lot of clues here showing us that she acknowledges him as a conventionally attractive person, even if sheâs not personally attracted to him.
letâs sum it up, shall we?
what does it say about percy? absolutely nothing. piper calling percy unimpressive is an inaccurate and unreliable source when it comes to analyzing percyâs physical appearance, especially if you donât consider the context. this was rickâs way of showing piperâs clear preference towards jason, just like annabeth has a clear preference towards percy. and even though she said this, rick also made her give us several hints that percy is handsome, just not in a way sheâs inclined towards. rick wanted love triangles to be completely out of the question with these 4. he wanted to make it very clear that annabeth had no interest in jason, and that piper had no interest in percy. so since piper is so drawn towards jason, percy had to be very different from him in her eyes.
jason is your a superman, percy is your batman
jason is your captain america, percy is your iron man. some even say spider man.
so put yourself in piperâs shoes: after hearing percy jacksonâs name non-stop for 6 months, hearing him compared to jason, hearing of all his accomplishments and how heroic he is - i mean, the guy was literally honored on olympus and offered godhood - she was expecting a stereotypical good-boy hero. a hercules. a superman. your standard muscular blinding-white-teeth-smile hunk. the conventional, well-mannered good boy. and instead she got a wild and untamed, trouble-making bad boy. percy has an edge to him. heâs intimidating and unpredictable. heâs sarcastic and witty. he just looks like heâs up to no good. she wasnât expecting any of that. thatâs not what weâre taught a hero is supposed to be like or look like.
jason is appealing in a âheâd be a respectable and sturdy husbandâ way.
percy is appealing in a âheâs gonna fuck up my life but i so badly want him toâ kind of way. (even though once you get to know him, you see heâs literally the worldâs best boyfriend. piper even gets jealous of how loving he is towards annabeth.)
she had this exact idea of what he would be, and he wasnât that. hence her calling him âunimpressive.â but it says nothing about his attractiveness.
i rest my case, your honor.
thank you for coming to my ted talk
disclaimer: i am not saying percy is actually a bad boy or a bad guy. he is a sweetheart. he has the biggest heart ever. heâs a cute little cinnamon roll. i am simply talking of first impressions from outsiders, and how he appears if you donât know him.

I kind of wish there was some kind of language to describe the literary and narrative structure of ultrakill, because conventional ones such as âprotagonistsâ and âmain charactersâ only capture a very small picture of the wider story. ultrakill already spits in the face of those things by having the âmain characterâ (the main driver of events in the narrative) being someone who is the âantagonistâ, antagonist being the roughest and closest word to describe Gabriel.
But even that categorization falls short in the sense that the gameâs story is not about you, but it involves you. V1âs importance in the story is that of someone who is involved in a larger piece of something else: mankindâs extinction and the quickly growing (and very chaotic) sentience of hell, something it interacts with purposefully in the game as part of the mechanics, but story wise, we do not see. The only events that matter which we are influencing is our encounters with Gabriel, and the terminals, because everything else is hell interacting with itself. Everything else is hell becoming some weird kind of massively intelligent superorganism, at odds with the ideals of God being a omnipotent and ever loving creator. That is the story which drives the events of Ultrakill, the story that actually explains and branches out why everything is happening the way that it is and the way that it does. Itâs not about V1 except that you (and it) are the hemorrhagic consequences of these factors coming to a head. A massively powerful, easily influenceable (by blood) ant which crawls its way into hell and goes deeper and deeper enticed by the terminals grading, enticed by the constant momentum and unfettered carnage that take place.
If anything, Ultrakill is a story which can only be experienced in a video game. Ultrakill isnât separating the gameplay from its story, but it is making the core mechanics (style meter, weapon freshness, the terminals feedback with the player being the formerâs source of entertainment, etc) completely separate from what is propelling the plot forward, from what is changing the world around it. A story like this, where you experience a world as the consequence, and not the cause of the storyâs progression is something that can really only reliably happen when the audience is forcibly interacting as a outsider, with some of input. You cannot achieve this affect in film or books because there is no underlying mechanical reasoning to interact with. What you are shown is what is happening on screen, and you are to make assumptions about those things within their inclusion or omission from a scene.
Ultrakill is playing you a scene completely separate from the main play. Thereâs probably two plays going on here actually, what happens in Heaven and what you see as V1. You are always playing the terminalsâ games, always giving them the entertainment they want and led you into. But there is always something else happening, there is always something bigger than you. You are exploring a world in the past, present, and future tense simultaneously by interacting with it as not the catalyst of major everythings, but as the byproduct of it. Itâs a really unique story-telling perspective.

Welcome!
Hello and welcome to The Neopian Biology Project!
This blog is an offshoot of a series of posts started on my main account. It is run by me, @asterixcalibur, in association with Happy Lab Accidents on @cabletwo. I'm an artist and funny person by trade, but a biologist by tragic BDGilbertian retribution.
The goal of this project is to identify all of Neopia's unique species, categorize them by kingdom and region of origin, and find an ideal specimen for each that can be put into a natural history museum (my gallery on Neopets). As of writing, the project has identified over 2000 unique species of Neopian wildlife.
Our main methodology is scouring item descriptions for helpful information. This process also involves researching and standardizing the taxonomical, ecoregional, and evolutionary timeline terminology of Neopia.
Longer term goals are to obtain the ideal specimen of every identified species for the museum, and renovate the museum into a simulated museum experience through careful application of visual assets and CSS/HTML. Maybe one day we can shoot for the Gallery Spotlight?
On Neopets
My account on Neopets is classypotassium. Feel free to ask to be NeoFriends -- just tell me who you are here!
The Neopian Biological Sciences Natural History Museum itself is here.
Ways to Contribute
1. Donate a specimen
If you'd like to donate or loan a specimen to the museum, contact me so we can discuss attribution and collateral!
The gallery's JellyNeo wishlist is here. It will be continually updated as specimens are identified, so consider it a work in progress. As of writing I also haven't checked anything off even if it's been obtained, so double check the museum before offering donations!
2. Donate Neopoints
You can also "donate" by buying a Plushie Fungus from my shop! These are intentionally overpriced so that the change can be considered a charitable donation.
3. Interact here!
A lot of the posts that end up here are going to be asking for people's thoughts on origin, kingdom, uniqueness, and so on, through polls and direct questions.
You can also submit items, images, links, art, specimens, fossils, documentation, scientific papers, primary sources, etc. and so on, for consideration by the Project!
You don't need to know anything about Neopets to put in your two NP (or cents USD). In fact, sometimes it's better to get a perspective grounded in normal Earth biology, because, speaking as a biologist here in Neopia, I can very well say oh ym god please help ohhhh my god you don't even know
Conclusion
You don't need to be into Neopets to enjoy or contribute to this blog; I'll try my best to write posts so that they can be enjoyed by anyone aware of but not necessarily into Neopets. In my experience, explaining Neopets to someone entirely unfamiliar with it is always fun. This shit runs deep, dark, and as spaghetti as its code. Best part of Neopets, to me, is that the site rewards you for exploration, and some of the most consequential but by far weirdest lore can only be found by happening upon a page six links deep into a chain of site features that have gone untouched since 2009, as part of a philosophy of interaction that runs the entire site and is entirely against modern website design principles.
Anyway,
Thank you for visiting!
Science awaits!

Lateral vs Vertical Magic Systems
I⊠think Iâm the only one to use these terms? What I mean by this is different than hard and soft magic, slightly.
Quick recap:
Hard magic systems have rules and strict definition for what can and canât be done
Soft magic systems go more off vibes, magic exists but the exact mechanics are not important or donât exist
â
I think you can have a lateral or vertical magic system thatâs either hard or soft, and what I mean by this is:
Vertical magic is where everyone has magic of wildly different flavors but hones them all for the same specific purpose.
Lateral magic is where everyone has magic of the same flavor but uses it for wildly different purposes.
Hereâs some vertical magic examples:
Percy Jackson: Nobody uses their demigod powers for anything other than staying alive, by and large, and thereâs a huge variety of demigod power possibilities and very little overlap. Whether itâs physical combat or mental, these kidsâ powers exist so they can fight gods and monsters.
Naruto: I have not seen most of this show so correct me if Iâm wrong but, this is a world where ninjitsu is almost exclusively for combat. While thereâs core principles, the heaviest hitters in the show all have wild and exclusive powers or special moves that only they can use that go far beyond skill in martial arts (except for Rock Lee).
X-Men: By nature of it being a comic book, the premise of the world is built in heroes versus villains and how they use their powers to beat the snot out of each other. In X-men specifically, mutants are persecuted and canât use their powers legally, and have little choice beyond using their mutation to stay alive and âdo goodâ.
Lateral magic systems might be something like:
Tinker Bell: Youâre a nature fairy, by and large, and everyone gets their power from the same source, pixie dust, each using their flavor of magic to suit their niche purpose in the environment
Danny Phantom: Yes, heâs a superhero and must have fights, but all of Dannyâs super-powered rogues are ghosts, with no exceptions, and everyone is limited to how creatively and uniquely they use the same basic ghost principles of possession, telekinesis, invisibility, and intangibility, + their special trait, but all also suffer the same issue that unites them more than once: They are dead, and good or bad, the living fear them.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Alchemy isnât limitless, and its practitioners typically focus on one very specific kind of alchemy of their choice with the hard rule that everyone must follow of construct, deconstruct, and reconstruct, and get really, really good at honing it mostly for combat, but also in fields of science, engineering, etc. There is alchemy and only alchemy, and it has rules.
â
Last Airbender is both! Its bending rules are strictly limited to the four elements and how creative you can get with your element⊠but it is also a show that heavily features martial arts and how that bending can be used in combat, but it also built a world where bending factors into other jobs, arts, and the very fabric of society.
Why does lateral vs vertical magic matter?
When youâre designing your magic system, you have to think about how this magic would integrate into a world as if its always existed there. Is it hidden magic, like in most urban fantasy? Or is it baked into the fabric of society, like with bending? Does everyone start with the same basic tools and go wild, or does everyone start wild, and all chase the same aspirations?
Whichever you pick does depend on the story youâre telling. A lot of the media I mentioned is action-adventure, which means that all magic, lateral, vertical, soft, or hard, leans toward one thing in the end: Combat.
But beyond combat, how can your magic be used? Are people allowed to practice it without regulations or is it heavily structured by their fantasy society? If it has always existed, how would their would be fundamentally different than ours?

How I Personally Apply the Law of Assumption and Reality Shifting to my Life
Disclaimer: I am not stating that everyone must follow what I do in my spiritual journey and life nor am I claiming that this is the "only right way" to live your life. Everyone's life and spiritual journey is going to look different and unique. I'm just explaining what works for me!
Law of assumption: : I believe that imagination is the only real reality, and the physical is simply neutral and a reflection of imagination because everything is imagination. Imagination is one with the "I AM" (us). There is nothing else to "do" since we are one with everything and everything is us, because everything comes from imagination. Reality is a living lucid dream and you are the lucid dreamer who has full control of everything in your reality. Anything and everything is possible there's no such thing as "impossible" or "fiction." Everything that we experience in the world around us comes from our assumptions. For example: Youâre assume you have red hair by thinking/deciding you have red hair âIt instantly becomes reality because everything is one as imagination. Creation is always finished therefore we already have what we want, and nothing is ever separate from us ("I AM"). "Techniques" and "persistence" exist to simply remind you that you already have your desires since everything comes from us ("I AM"). Personally I love to affirm with the knowing that it's already mine and there's nothing else I need to do but stick to the decision that it's already mine because I am one with everything because everything is me ("I AM"). You can do whatever you want there's no "right" or "wrong" way to do things as the God of your reality. You create your own manifesting rules and every aspect within your reality.
Reality shifting: I no longer view the Multiverse as something external or separate from us. Instead, I see the Multiverse as existing within us, inseparable from the essence of "I AM" (Pure Awareness) that encompasses everything, everywhere, all at once. "I AM" (Pure Awareness) is the source from which the Multiverse was birthed, and through it, we are reality experiencing itself. When we reality shift/manifest, we are not "leaving" or "going" anywhere. As "I AM," we are simply molding and manipulating our reality (us). Our desired reality (DR) is not outside of us; it is already within us because we are the Pure Awareness that holds all possibilities. In truth, we are always in our DR, itâs simply a matter of becoming aware of it. Reality is like malleable clay, constantly reshaping itself in response to our awareness (our imagination, assumptions, thoughts, decisions, and intentions). This process creates a seamless transition, merging what we perceive as the current reality (CR) into the desired reality (DR) instantaneously. Reality shifting happens naturally and continuously; with every moment, we shift into a new version of our reality. We only have one "physical" reality that reflects our awareness, but within us, as "I AM," exists the infinite Multiverse, a limitless expanse of dormant potentials. These potentials are as real as anything we experience, but they remain inactive, like a dream waiting to be awakened, until we shift our awareness to them. The instant we decide that we are in our DR, we become aware of it, and we are there. The "old" reality becomes dormant, regardless of what the "physical" world may appear to show. The "physical" and the "imagined" are one; both arise from the same source, Pure Awareness. Though the physical world seems to follow the illusion of time, this delay is merely a product of our conditioning. In reality, everything is instant because all realities exist simultaneously within the Multiverse. As "I AM" (Pure Awareness) we arenât bound by the idea of movement or separation. Instead, we are like lucid dreamers in an infinite, customizable experience. Reality is a malleable creation, a vivid, living projection of the limitless Multiverse within us. Through our awareness, we can shift to any experience at any moment. Time, as we perceive it, is an illusion, and all that we desire is already here, waiting for us to claim it. I believe that manifesting and reality shifting are the same thing. For example, when we manifest a cup of coffee we are simply shifting to a reality where we have that cup of coffee, when we reality shift to Hogwarts we are simply manifesting we are there.

i just want to say: iâm seeing some outrage from a very small part of the fandom that doesnât approve of opinions put forth by first time viewers who have never read the books. these opinionsâbased on only a very small percentage of the whole storyâare still valid. we all had our fair share of good and bad takes as we went through the books and these people, completely new to the pjo world and riordanverse deserve to voice their perspective without a bajillion people coming at them with corrections, spoilers and weird comments about how they are wrong and should refer to the source material.
iâm gonna be straightâno viewer of the pjo tv show is obligated to read the books before participating in the fandom. their opinions should still be respected and if one needs to contest their views, it shouldnât come from this weird ass place of superiority because we have read the books, but from a vantage of friendly discourse and understanding that the person has yet to complete the pjo journey.
the reason i feel so strongly about this is that my nephew watched the show with me just yesterday. i always wanted to introduce him to this world and i tried getting him to read but heâs not a reader. he doesnât derive enjoyment from reading the same way that i do. and partly the reason for that is his dyslexia and adhd (this is a consequence unique to him, ik others, including my sister, do enjoy reading even with dyslexia/adhd). so imagine how much i wanted him to get to know percy jackson and annabeth chase and all these wonderful characters who he could relate to and thanks to the show, now he gets to!!! how awesome is that??? i casually asked him yesterday if he would try giving the books a chance but he told me no and we moved on and had icecream.
the point of the tv show is to pull in from this vast pool of audience that has never read the books. this will inevitably lead to more book readers but it will also have a part of the fandom that are tv show-only and we can always fill them in on the finer details and try to acclimate them to the deeper lore but the show itself being their basis for analysis and opinions is 100% valid and we should be understanding and accepting of that. not everyone wants to read a book to understand a story. some just want to watch a cool show portray the entire narration and thatâs okay. these people may love luke as he is now, or not be fans of percy or annabeth or think gods are just soooo coolâand thatâs perfectly okay. maybe even after the seasonâs done, they may not enjoy some characters that we do because things from the book havenât translated one-on-one and still, that is okay. their opinions on characters through the show alone are valid and should always be valid. we can always argue that if they read the books and had a rounded understanding of characters, theyâd agree with us but they donât... they never will because books arenât their thing or maybe they canât invest as much time into reading or maybe just because they donât want toâand that is, once again, completely okay.
