The fatui were in every business meeting, party and get together to ever exist in teyvet. They need to be- after all becoming a powerhouse nation isn’t done by solitude and bad business partners. You see them at balls, wearing nice clothes with intimidating masks and smiles that barely hide threats to others.

And while the fatui has to be at every event that may hold some importance to their cause- a harbinger does not. So just your luck number four stands in front of you tonight.

She’s dressed in a way most women would never think to dress at an event like this. A sharp suit with crimson accents to make her already threatening demeanor almost horrifying, nothing a man wouldn’t wear but a woman wearing was unheard of.

Maybe that’s why when you had to stand next to her in the crowd (because nobody wants to stand next to the fatui), you didn’t immediately make some poor excuse to run away. It was interesting seeing somebody so powerful next to you, like a moth to a flame.

Maybe that’s why you let her make small talk to you. Why you let her pull you aside to a less crowded area to talk more. She was cold, but not closed off. It’s bad to talk to fatui (because everybody knows what happens when you say the wrong thing, or let something slip about your business adventure).But you couldn’t help it, she was so unique. Plus, the rich red wine she keep handing you after yours gets a little bit to low definitely helped eased some tension.

So maybe at the next ball when you see her, you greet her quietly (because anybody talking with the fatui is a social outcast for the rest of night) and stand a bit closer. Maybe that’s why at the next one, and the one after that, and for all the other ones your invited too- you talk with her through the night, letting her bring you more and more wine. And perhaps press a small kiss to your lips, staining your lips with that dark crimson that you’ve come to love.

And maybe when you finally return home, you don’t realize shes with you. As you stumble into your house, you don’t consider if talking to somebody so dangerous could be bad. And finally, as you tuck into bed, you don’t even think twice about the glimpses of a woman with an interesting outfit in the corner. And the harbingers don’t have to be at every event the fatui goes too, which is why she is here in your room (because the fatui never forget).
