I've been rewatching the first two seasons of The Bear so I can watch the third season that just came out and man the character writing in this show makes me froth at the mouth it's like some of the best arcs I've ever seen in a TV series

#little infodump in the tags bc no one I know is watching this show so I need to spill all my thoughts somewhere LOL #Richie is my favorite he makes me go ballistic especially in the episode Forks #just rewatched that episode and it always makes me cry when he has his moment where he finally Gets it #he's such a shit stain of a guy I would probably hate him if I knew him in real life lmfao but as a character he is so fantastically writte #I also really love Marcus but he hasn't had as big of a development as Richie has #Sydney is awesome but she's. so much like me in the way where I cringe at her sometimes LMAO #when she's acting super sarcastic and holier than thou I can't look directly at it it's too much like me when I'm at my worst DHF;LKDFH #god I hope Marcus and Sydney get together they are so cute #unusually good chemistry for a straight ship LOL /hj #I also love Tina but my only complaint with her is that I kinda wish her arc in the first season took a little more time #bc she started off as a real asshole just like all the characters did but she had a much more sudden switch #but I guess it makes sense for her now that I think about it bc she's shown to be a very sweet and compassionate person #it's just that she doesn't trust Sydney at first so once she gets over that then she's sweet with her too #excited to learn more about Ebra he reminds me a lot of an old coworker #also obvs no spoilers for season 3 please I haven't got there yet #lyla's talking again

having thoughts about how Husk actually has very little left to redeem bc he started his journey of self-change before even coming to work at the hotel, but at the same time redemption isn't even his goal- he ain't even aiming for heaven, he just wanted to be a better person and maybe now with friends and especially Angel, who he supports so much and wants to see succeed, maybe now he has a reason to be a better person

#hazbin hotel #husk #warning I am about to ramble in these tags O7 I have a ridiculous amount of thoughts about this cat bird man #thinking about that word of god from vivzie that Husk is actively fighting his gambling addiction in hell #which besides the pilot we've only seen his gambling mentioned in the past #and idk if it's just because they had to focus on other things but we don't see him drinking as heavily as he did in the pilot #and first few episodes. like he actually wants to be sober #we know he used to be an overlord and we assume that comes with all the terrible overlord qualities #(aka there's no such thing as a good slave owner)#but the Husk we know now has been on both sides of this chain #he knows and respects boundaries. consent is super important to him. this feels like a moral you can't really have to be an overlord #he also sees everyone as more than just what they can do for him specifically. he gets NOTHING out of being Angel's friend #he gets NOTHING out of defending Angel and Cherri during the fight with the Exorcists #he knows when to open up and who to open up to and trust. and he extends a hand to someone in need. someone he ain't even close to-#and if it hasn't changed he is trying to beat his own vices despite not even being a guest of the hotel. he's staff. he doesn't HAVE to #participate in their activities or try to change. he was dragged into this #but dammit he does it anyway #(also if he is still trying to beat his gambling addiction I wonder if the pilot was a relapse. hm)#anyway ig what im trying to say is husk isn't a guest at the hotel but plays the role of a guide for the guests bc he's already #got a very strong and *GOOD* set of morals considering they're in hell #like his level of morals we've only seen /explicitly/ shown in hellborn. and yeah consent and boundaries is rock bottom even for Earth #but they're in hell so somehow the bar manages to be even fucking lower than that so I consider it a win #ALSO THE FACT THAT HE STOOD BETWEEN ANGEL & CHERRI AND THE EXORCISTS??? this mf is willing to DIE for these people #I am 100% sure that if Husk's soul didn't belong to Alastor he would already be redeemed #we don't know what he did in life and we don't know how bad he was as an overlord but we know who husk is /now/#and that person is a pretty damn good guy #he might have some work to do sure but he's already at least started his redemption before the show even began and #we're just seeing the tail end of it #god damn I really rambled in these tags i am so sorry #I just have so many thoughts about him

still thinking about the count of monte cristo movie. some of it felt half-baked on a technical level (score choices, some weird edits, etc) BUT also it hasn't left my head since i watched it and i WILL be seeing it again on wednesday. enraptured by the count's sad brown eyes and long eyelashes. and his dumbass leather coat.

it's a situation where i wish the movie had more of the book but i also wish the book had a little more of the movie in it.

#i think the problem with any modern adaptation of the book is that you can't keep the original ending because uh. gross. unfortunately.#but also how the hell do you replace that #and then how do you replace it while also streamlining enough that it's not a 12-hour epic a la lord of the rings #(which is what it deserves! in my opinion! not a miniseries. a trilogy like lord of the rings)#i also want to say that the movie gets distracted by its younger characters when the real interesting person there is the count. but uh.#so does the book #however the book had more to say with its younger characters – the movie does not #i think the best temporary solution is to always double feature count of monte cristo with The Diving Bell and the Butterfly #i think that's the perfect fix for sure. no noirtier? watch a movie that references him several times! that's the solution!#sorry im just a sap who loves maxemillian and valentine #also like. the movie didn't completely lose the 'filial piety' thing but it didn't have enough of it tragically #it's very muddied and thus looses a lot of the central points of the book #if you lose the 'filial piety' thing you also lose most of the very christian take on why what the count is doing is bad #we're god's children so we have to trust him and wait and hope (i think? i frankly hadn't considered it much until now)#all that to say i'd normally strongly condemn it as an adaptation #but i adored it anyway. literally i had so much fun #i need to watch it over and over until i figure out how it bypassed my snob tendencies so effectively #maybe it was including both of the best scenes with the count and mercedes?#PLUS the bit where he beats the shit out of some guys with his walking stick that was hot #idk this needs further research #chatterbox tag

Ough I need to avoid my TAZ shelf when I'm tired, because reminding myself that The Adventure Zine and the graphic novels are right next to each other and how painful some of the differences between them are legitimately gives me a migraine. That and my eyes are weird so looking at comics for too long just does that anyways but I digress
