Details that make me think Spencer Reid could be the Gold Star unsub for Criminal Minds: Evolution

An agent was listed as one of the primary options for where Gold Star got their start;

Gold Star has been trained to think of everything - much like the youngest BAU agent was trained to think of everything to catch the killers while training under both Gideon and Rossi;

“Trained killer, national security threat, but not an assassin” - all three labels fit Spencer;

Social Contagion - sounds like a theory Spencer could have gotten so wrapped up in he lost sight of what he likely started researching it for;

Conspiracy theorist is a bit harder since we’re only two episodes in, but I could see Spencer thinking he’s uncovering something massive and getting trapped in a web of lies and conspiracy. We’ve seen it before in Bones with Zach Addy and Gormogon - even geniuses can be wrong;

The BAU being assigned to investigate a National Security Threat is strange - maybe it’s because they’ll have the best chance at tracking down one of their own even if they don’t realize it yet;

Clearly something massive set Luke off and caused him to scream “That’s not true” - what would be more damaging than Voit telling him that Gold Star is one of their own?

The sheer amount of trauma they put Spencer through throughout the show is frankly the perfect setup for an agent snapping and turning into an unsub;

The absences Spencer had were excused away, but it could have been a cover for him going through specialized training and then on missions;

Unsub!Reid

Alright, we all know Spencer is a little on the verge of a mental breakdown at all times. That got me thinking, what if he one day goes over that line?

♤ The first time he takes a life, he's in shock. He doesn't fully process the event for weeks. He doesn't know if he'll ever get over the fact that he shot someone, it doesn't matter that it was a killer, it doesn't matter that he was protecting his team, he took a life and he doesn't know if he can live with himself after that.

♤ Months later, it happens again. A standoff with an unsub ends with Spencer pulling the trigger. This time he expects the guilt and moral dilemmas, he knows how to help himself through it, knows that it was him or the Unsub.

♤ Every time a case ends with Spencer killing the Unsub the team had been chasing, it gets easier for him to deal with the psychological backlash.

♤ Until one time, he doesn't feel guilt. He only feels relief. Why should he feel guilty about protecting himself? Protecting his team?

♤ "Successful" cases where the unsub gets arrested start feeling incomplete to Reid. He feels anxious because the unsub, this awful person, is still alive, still out there in the world. What if they get out of prison? What if they escape? What if they start hurting others again?

♤ The final straw comes when an unsub escapes from custody. Reid had had a gun pointed at him only thirty minutes before. The unsub killed two more people before Spencer finally found him again, not hesitating to pull the trigger this time.

♤ From then on, he promised himself to never hesitate again. Voices in his head tell him that it is his fault that those two innocent people died. It was because of him that the unsub could kill them.

♤ He starts his own mission. He tries to rid the world of as many serial killers and serial rapists as he can, doing everyone a favor, according to him.

♤ He works with his team to profile and find the unsub, but the last piece of essential information he keeps to himself, sending the rest of his team astray with a subtle hint in the wrong direction.

♤ Then, he goes after the unsub himself, making quick work of them, chasing the feeling of relief. Relief that there is one less murderous psychopath walking around on this earth.

i don't trust people who don't like adam parrish as a character. i'm usually very open to people's opinions but if you think adam is anything but an amazingly written character then ur wrong and u just don't get his vibes like i do.

Narratively, I don't think Zenos should come back from the dead because FFXIV has already had way too many death fakeouts/back from the dead storylines and he has already had one of them. But I would still be more than willing to accept it because a) I really love Zenos and will always want more Zenos content and b) the idea that this motherfucker just absolutely will not die is hilarious to me.

I know sometimes in cop shows characters stay in touch with people they put away for one reason or another. I think Reid did with at least one in CM. Do you think Hotch did/would do that with any of the criminals he’s put away?

i dont think hotch would have much communication with any unsubs. his moral rigidity and black&white thinking would make it easy to outright ignore and sense of duty or obligation he may have. i could see him dismissing anyone he considers a criminal merely because theyve crossed the line and he doesnt give a shit about them after that. i would hope he’d show a little more compassion, but truthfully i just dont know if he has the time/energy to put effort into maintaining communication with someone he’s condemned. that being said, that does leave room for people he believes are a victim of circumstance, like the guy from haunted or the woman in hanley waters. i think he would feel more of a responsibility towards people who dont really have other people in their lives they can talk to.

unlike reid, i feel like hotch would be much more likely to keep tabs on someone rather than actual communication. i just dont think he has the personality for it. gideon’s influence resonated a lot more with reid in that regard, but i think hotch already having gone through various arenas of the justice system on his own allowed him to form his own reaction to unsubs he feels connected to. he may keep tabs on them, but i really really doubt he would start communication. that could mean checking to see how theyre doing or going out of his way to find resources to help them.

i feel like he’d feel a sort of responsibility for the younger ones, too. whether they lacked support or made bad decisions or simply in the official criminal minds dsm5 category of “mental illness that will make you a killer 100% for sure,” i think that he would either a) monitor their rehabilitation or b) ensure their continued imprisonment. i think part of it is an extension of paternalistic duty, but another part that might relate to not having a sterling father figure (even the ones where the fathers are present, they just might not be able to provide the support they need) so i’ll generally say he pays continued attention to anyone they arrest in their twenties or younger

got an email saying my finaid has been posted and it’s literally nothinggg . one unsubsidized loan. hoping it’s just an error or something bc i got aid last year and my grades + family income havent changed. even if they reduced aid why would they go from 28k to 0? and fwiw i used their financial aid estimator and it said i should be getting $$ so idk what’s going on
