Jharkhand polls: Phase-IV voting on Monday; 2 ministers' fate to be decided

The fate of state Labour Minister Raj Paliwar and Land and Revenue Minister Amar Kumar Bauri will be decided in the fourth phase of polling in Jharkhand on Monday.

BJP candidate Bauri will lock horns with NDA ally AJSU Party nominee Umakant Razzak in Chandankiyari seat while the saffron party's Paliwar will contest JMM candidate Hussain Ansari in Madhupur constituency.

Jharia seat will witness a direct fight between two women candidates of the same family.The BJP has nominated Ragini Singh, wife of sitting saffron party MLA Sanjeev Singh who is behind the bars in the murder case of his cousin Niraj Singh of the Congress.The Congress has fielded Niraj Singh's widow Purnima Niraj Singh in the seat.

A total of 47,85,009 electorate, including 22,44,134 women and 81 third gender voters, are eligible to cast their franchise in the 15 Assembly seats that are going to polls in the fourth of the five phases, state Chief Electoral Officer Vinay Kumar Choubey said on Sunday.A total of 221 candidates, including 23 women nominees, are in the fray in the elections.

The highest number of 25 candidates will lock horns in the Bokaro seat while the least number of eight nominees will contest the Nirsa constituency, he said.Voting will commence at 7 am and end at 3 pm at Jamua, Bagodar, Giridih, Dumri and Tundi seats while polling will continue till 5 pm in rest of the constituencies, Choubey said.

Polling will be held in Deoghar (SC), Jamua (SC), Chandankiyari (SC), Madhupur, Bagodar, Gandey, Giridih, Dumri, Bokaro, Sindri, Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharia, Tundi and Baghmara constituencies spread across four districts of the state.Of the 6,101 polling stations, 4,296 are located in rural areas, the CEO said....Read More

J’khand poll: Voting for 12 seats ends, 57.96% votes cast

Voting ended for 12 of the 17 assembly seats at 3 p.m. in the third phase of the polls with 57.96 percent votes being cast on Thursday.

The voting will end at 5 p.m. for the Ranchi, Hatia, Kanke, Ramgarh, and Barkatha assembly seats.

There are a total of 309 candidates including 32 females whose fate will be decided by 56,06,743 voters including 26,73,991 women and 95 third gender. These 17 seats are spread across Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Chatra, Giridih, Bokaro, Koderma and Saraikela. More than 35000 security personnel have been deployed to ensure peaceful polling.

Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu cast her vote at ATI Ranchi while AJSU president Sudesh Mahtyo cast his vote along with his wife at Silli. Jayant Sinha cast his vote in Hazaribagh.

A newly married couple cast their votes at polling booth number 225 of Hazaribagh. Priyanka was married on Wednesday night and she came with her husband for voting on Thursday morning. Maoist leader Maharaja Parmanik’s parents cast their votes at Ichagarh.

In the third phase, the key candidates are three ministers — CP Singh, Ramchandra Sahis and Neera Yadav, Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi and former Deputy Chief Minister and All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) president Sudesh Mahto.

Of the 17 seats, BJP, JMM, and Congress had won 10, three and two seats respectively in the 2014 Assembly elections.

There is a direct fight between the BJP, Congress and JMM candidates on seven seats. For the Silli seat, the fight is between AJSU president Sudesh Mahto and JMM sitting legislator Seema Devi. There is a triangular fight on six seats. For some seats, the fight is four-cornered or multi-cornered.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das have appealed to the voters to cast their votes.

67 candidates battle for 4 constituencies in Jharkhand on May 12

Jharkhand goes for polls in second last phase of Lok Sabha elections. 67 candidates have been nominated for 4 Important constituencies in Jharkhand. Polling will be held between 7 am and 4 pm in four Lok Sabha constituencies which includes Dhanbad, Giridih, Jamshedpur, and Singhbhum (ST). BJP was in power for all of these constituencies in 2014. Jharkhand Minister Chandraprakash Choudhary, former cricketers Kirit Azad and ex-chief minister Madhu Koda are some well-known faces who will battle in Jharkhand.
