Wherever this wild, electrifying Tour de France turns, there is one present: Gino Mäder.

In my last post, I wrote about the tragedy of Mäder and the safety in cycling. We need for more safety in our sport, with riders that could feel comfortable doing their job.

Matej Mohoric edges out stage 18 winner Kasper Asgreen for stage 19 victory. Another win for Bahrain Victorious and for Gino:

"I'm just so happy for myself and the team for everything that happened in the last month."

This is the second flat stage snatched by the breakaway from the clutches of the sprinters. Jasper Philipsen must be frustrated.

Wout Poels wins stage 15 of the Tour de France exactly a month after Gino Mäder's death.

Like his teammate and stage 10 winner Pello Bilbao, he dedicates his win to Gino:

"I always dreamed to win a stage at the Tour. Especially with what happened in the team in the last three weeks with Gino, all the emotions came. It's just incredible. I won a Monument and now a stage in the Tour. I'm super happy."

An emotional Pello Bilbao dedicates his stage 10 win to former teammate Gino Mäder:

"I crossed the line and put out all the emotion from inside and remembered the reason for this victory – a special one, for Gino."

Mäder died at age 26 following a high speed crash at the Tour de Suisse last month.

Vandaag twee in het oog springende advertenties in de krant. Opmerkelijk en markant.  Kennelijk hadden Kwaad en Van Hulzen zich al met hun ontvangst aan Gene Zijde verzoend. Een rijk ziekbed was nogal nieuw voor mij. Tot nu toe was een rijk en vol leven toch zo’n beetje het  standaard en herkenbare cliché. Voor renner Gino Mäder  in ieder geval geen advertentie met een dergelijke referentie. Niks…

De Zwitserse beloftevolle wielrenner Gino Mäder overleed op 26-jarige leeftijd aan de verwondingen die hij gisteren had opgelopen na een zware valpartij in de Ronde van Zwitserland. Tijdens de vijfde etappe was hij in een ravijn terechtgekomen bij de afdaling van de Albulapas.
