Didn’t get to sit and really watch this one super close but from a casual viewing, Bivol looked brilliant. In complete control the entire fight. Lukasz Fenrych took the time to outline how Bivol managed to out box and pressure the bigger fighter in Zurdo. Great, quick read for fellow technique freaks.
Praying Arum gets off his ass and lets Beterbiev fight Bivol.

What's Next For Dmitry Bivol?

Published: November 11, 2022
"When going into the ring, I have always had it in my mind that I would be the conqueror. That has always been my disposition."  -- John L. Sullivan
Dmitry Bivol always seeks the most challenging fights, then has a knack for remaining coolly confident throughout the build-up, performing as required on the night to get the victory, with the unique ability to simultaneously exude humility. He believes in his ability and game plan. The talking will be done in the ring. Talking away from the ring when opponents try to convince themselves, and opponents can give the public their chances.
After the WBA light heavyweight champion’s excellent display against Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez in his tenth title defense, Bivol stated: “The lion is not the biggest animal in the jungle, but he’s King. Yeah Zurdo is bigger than me, it doesn’t matter.”
Bivol has the mentality of a champion, with unshakable confidence due to his control, discipline, and ability to use an opponent’s aggression against him.
Bivol’s unanimous decision win in Abu Dhabi was his first outing since his career-defining win against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez back in May 2022. This has been a break-out year for the Kyrgyzstan-born technician, as he has gone from the purist’s favorite to somewhat of a mainstream attraction.
A legit test, a perceived genuine threat, was made to look easy. Naturally, attention has now shifted to Bivol’s next move. Usually, these “What’s next?” pieces have many options to choose from for fighters, with numerous contenders and pretenders to the throne. In Bivol’s case, there are only really two genuinely viable options. These are the rematch against Canelo, with the weight class for the fight, whether at 168 lbs or 175, to be determined, or a light heavyweight undisputed showdown against WBC, IBF, and WBO champion, Artur Beterbiev.
Speaking to ID Boxing prior to the fight, Bivol said: “I want to be undisputed champion in light heavyweight. This is my goal. I want to have more belts. I want to move forward. Doesn’t matter who’s my opponent, I just want to fight for the belts.”
Bivol reinforced his wishes after the Ramirez fight. He has a true champion’s mindset, prioritizing legacy over money.
If boxing were straightforward, Bivol vs. Beterbiev would be next. Bivol wants Beterbiev; the pair hold all the belts, Bivol has just disposed of his mandatory challenger, and the winner will create history. However, more often than not, boxing doesn’t work how we would like it to. If it did, we would be looking ahead to Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua and Errol Spence Jr vs. Terence Crawford in the coming months, not Tyson Fury vs. Dereck Chisora and Terence Crawford vs. David Avanesyan. The fights that usually make the most sense are not the fights we usually get.
Beterbiev is the most dangerous puncher in the light heavyweight division and one of the most brutal punchers in the sport. Boxing’s only active champion with a 100% knockout rate, with 18 knockouts in 18 fights. That is the man Bivol wants in the ring.
Beterbiev is set to face WBO mandatory challenger Anthony Yarde in early 2023. Assuming Beterbiev prevails, which he is massively favored to do so, there would be a stylistically colossal showdown on our hands. The master boxer against the wrecking ball. A wrecking ball with underrated boxing ability which hits extremely hard to the head and body. Beterbiev, although having compiled an impressive resume in his 18 professional fights with wins against the likes of Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Marcus Browne, and Joe Smith Jr, has never faced a fighter as skilled as Bivol. This is a fight we should all get behind and clamor for vehemently.
Bivol is aware that there might be obstacles, and the Canelo rematch is a fight that team Canelo and Eddie Hearn seem to be really pushing for. There would undoubtedly be big financial rewards for Bivol in a Canelo rematch, but the public’s desire for this rematch is a lot less than before their first encounter in May. Bivol is not as keen on that fight as the first time, and the general public feels the manner in which Bivol outclassed Canelo the first time was conclusive enough, with no rematch required.
Boxing seems to have developed a bad habit of delaying big fights. “Marination” is nothing new in boxing. Giving a potential mega-fight some time to get bigger and truly whet the public’s appetite has always existed in boxing. However, it never used to take this long. The big fights take so long to transpire, that the boxing community starts to lose interest.
Beterbiev vs. Bivol is the fight to make right now. If not the absolute next fight, then as close to next as possible. Bivol is 31 and in his prime. Beterbiev is 37, turning 38 in January. Although Beterbiev is coming off a very impressive two-round destruction of Smith Jr, time is not on his side. The time for this showdown is ripe. Any further delays are just a waste of time.

The boxer maintained his perfect record after a bruising contest against Anthony Yarde
Undefeated Russian fighter Artur Beterbiev retained his WBO, WBC and IBF world light-heavyweight titles with a stoppage win against home hero Anthony Yarde in a back-and-forth battle at Wembley Arena on Saturday night. Beterbiev, 38, set up the finish in the eighth round with a massive right-hand shot which crumpled Yarde to his knees. The British fighter beat the count but Beterbiev immediately poured on the pressure again, prompting Yarde’s corner to call off the fight and spare their man further punishment. Yarde, 31, had posed a bigger threat than many expected to the all-conquering Beterbiev. Fighting in front of a fiercely partisan crowd, the Londoner enjoyed particular success in a pulsating round five before Beterbiev drew upon all his ring nous to impose himself on the fight. Beterbiev, who also holds Canadian citizenship and trains in Montreal, said he was satisfied with his night’s work against Yarde despite the contest being closer than many had anticipated.

“I can’t say I did a bad fight, but if I do again, I want to do better. But I feel good,” Beterbiev told BT Sport. “Anthony did [punch hard]. He’s young. He has time I think, and I hope he will do well in the future. “If I’m being honest, every punch he did, for all those punches we prepared, that’s why I came back and back, because we knew, we expected those punches,” added the Dagestani-born fighter.

The eighth-round finish extended Beterbiev’s remarkable 100% stoppage rate against each of the 19 opponents he has faced in professional boxing. The win will also increase the clamor for an all-Russian undisputed light-heavyweight title fight against WBA champion Dmitry Bivol. Bivol, 32, boasts an undefeated record of 21-0 and famously handed Mexican great Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez a rare loss in their title fight in Las Vegas in May of last year. Bivol followed that up with a dominant decision victory over Mexico’s Gilberto Ramirez in Abu Dhabi in November.

Dmitry Bivol vs. Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez Fight Preview

Published: November 03, 2022
Dmitry Bivol stunned the world and introduced himself to the mainstream public with his masterful unanimous decision win against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in May 2022.
The fact that Bivol’s win was headlined as a ‘big’ and ‘stunning’ upset served as an injustice to his talent and underlined how underrated the Russian’s ability is. The truth is, Bivol has always been an unknown quantity outside the boxing hardcore. That was, of course, until he defeated the superstar Mexican. Next, Bivol will be putting his WBA (Super) light heavyweight title on the line against another Mexican.
He goes by the name of Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez. An unbeaten, imposing 6ft 2.5 inches southpaw, looking to become a two-division world champion. Ramirez may not be as illustrious an opponent as his fellow Mexican, but he represents an intriguingly different proposition to his compatriot.
Instead of enjoying the fruits of his labor with an easy title defense, Bivol is heading into one of the most difficult possible match-ups available. The Russian will be looking to make his 10th title defense, not including any defenses of interim titles, against the former WBO super middleweight champion, who made five successful title defenses and reigned for nearly three years.
Ramirez made the move up to light heavyweight in 2019 and has had five fights at 175 lbs thus far, winning all via stoppage. The Mexican has significant size advantages over any light-heavy weight that comes to mind.
Bivol is fully aware of Ramirez’s strengths and what makes Ramirez a respectable opponent.
“He (Ramirez) has a good body punch by his left hand. He has good conditioning,” Bivol told Fight Hub TV. “He’s tall, he’s southpaw, and he’s confident because 44 fights, 44 victories. Experience, he has a lot of experience.”
The pair have two completely opposite fighting styles. Bivol has a great jab, knows how to apply pressure at the right moment, and can counter-punch with pinpoint accuracy. There was no better reference point for Bivol’s tool-kit than his victory against Canelo. Ramirez is a big, powerful, light heavyweight who gradually breaks the resistance of opponents and forces the stoppage. A main advantage for Bivol is his speed, which he utilizes to avoid opponents’ attacks. Ramirez may have the size advantage and power, but Bivol can look to exploit Ramirez’s lack of speed with constant movement to avoid getting hurt. With 64 wins and 41 knockouts with no losses between the pair, this has the potential for Fight of the Year candidacy.
Bivol is all about the sweet science. Hit and don’t get hit. He is a pure boxer. Whether it be Willie Pep, Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whitaker, or Floyd Mayweather Jr, the greatest defensive fighters have been hit at some point in their careers, and no one is absolutely flawless. Bivol has been caught on occasions too, but he is all about displaying the noble art, and that should be appreciated. Prior to his showdown with Joe Smith Jr in March 2019, Bivol spoke about his favorite boxers, and the stylists he mentioned, as opposed to the great knockout merchants of the past, spoke volumes as to the mentality of the Russian and offered a glimpse into how his favorite boxers influenced his own fighting style.
“When I started boxing I loved Mike Tyson, then I watched a lot of Roy Jones Jr. fights and then I (watched) fights with Sugar Ray Leonard. I like how he used his legs in the ring and I like his style, he moves a lot and he threw punches easy, he looked like he threw punches easy but they landed hard. And Pernell Whitaker was a very interesting fighter and one of the best fighters that I watched. I liked him because he always looked like he had fun in the ring. He was very light in the ring and he was very positive like it was a holiday. Like he was enjoying it, and I liked that very much.”
In order to penetrate and make an impact, Zurdo must utilize his attributes. Apply the pressure and use his size advantage. It is the only way.
The fight will be hosted at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
The Middle East has hosted some big fight nights in recent years, most notably Anthony Joshua’s rematches with Andy Ruiz Jr and Oleksandr Usyk. These fights took place in Saudi Arabia.
Jamel Herring and Carl Frampton also contested for the WBO super-featherweight title in Dubai in April 2021. However, this is the first major world championship bout taking place in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, and what a worthy fight it is.
The winner could proceed to face unified light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev to crown an undisputed champion.
Ramirez views this as a revenge mission for Mexican people after Bivol defeated their prodigal son, Canelo.
“He’s a tough guy, he’s a really good challenge. Now he beat Canelo and I want to do the rematch for all Mexican people,” Ramirez said during the media work-out.
This fight is about as good as it can get at 175 lbs right now.
‘Zurdo’ was very persistent in his desire to get this fight, and when it got ordered, it was signed and sealed quickly. Ramirez and Golden Boy Promotions deserve credit for playing no games and getting this done.
Canelo is seeking the Bivol rematch. The money that comes with fighting a superstar like Canelo is difficult to reject, but Bivol states his ideal path forward is becoming undisputed champion at 175 lbs.
Speaking to ID Boxing, when questioned if he prefers the Beterbiev fight for undisputed or the Canelo rematch, Bivol said: “I want to be undisputed champion in light heavyweight. This is my goal. I want to have more belts. I want to move forward. Doesn’t matter who’s my opponent, I just want to fight for the belts.”
Future talks can wait. Boxing has been deprived of some mega-fights recently. On November 5th, we are treated to a fight that is as good as it can get right now. Two of the best light heavyweights in the world. This is a mega-fight in its own right.

Cleveland Indians-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
6.1.23-Tanner Bibee RHP (1-1) 2.88 ERA Vs. Pablo Lopez RHP (3-3) 4.11 ERA
6.2.23-Aaron Civale RHP (1-1) 2.84 ERA Vs. Bailey Ober RHP (3-2) 2.68 ERA
6.3.23-Logan Allen LHP (2-2) 2.72 ERA Vs. Sonny Gray RHP (4-0) 1.94 ERA
6.4.23-Cal Quantrill RHP (2-4) 5.61 ERA Vs. Joe Ryan RHP (7-2) 2.77 ERA
The Indians At A Glance- The Indians are playing better baseball lately with four wins in their past six games. The offense continues to sputter and are averaging 3.4 runs per game.  Jose Ramirez leads the offense with a .277 average. Josh Naylor leads the power department with eight homers and forty RBI. Cleveland has just thirty home runs through fifty-five games and the team is hitting just .229. The Indians pitching staff is trying to keep them afloat. The starting staffowns a 4.24 ERA, which is eleventh-best in MLB. Aaron Civale should be returning from an oblique injury on Friday night. Triston McKenzie is on a rehab stint with Columbus after suffering a shoulder injury. The Indians bullpen has a 3.03 ERA, which is second-best in the Majors. Eli Morgan has a 1.57 ERA, Enyel De Los Santos has a 1.71 ERA, and Trevor Stephan has a 1.93 ERA. Emmauel Clase isn’t as sharp as he has been with a 3.33 ERA. He has locked down seventeen saves and blown five. Sam Hentges brings it from the left side of this solid bullpen.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins closed out a disappointing month strong with a series win over a tough Astros team in Houston. They are (29-27) and still in first place of the Central by two games over the Tigers. I believe Jorge Polanco has been working out at Target Field and might not need a rehab assignment. Kenta Maeda threw two scoreless innings and struck out four in Buffalo in his first rehab start. Caleb Thielbar threw a scoreless inning in a rehab outing on Tuesday. He is expected to get one more appearance on Thursday for the Saints. Gilberto Celestino has began a rehab assignment at Fort Myers and went 1-for-2 on Tuesday. Carlos Correa, Royce Lewis, and Byron Buxton were each given a maintenance day in the series finale in Houston. The Twins starting staff owns a 3.40 ERA, which is fourth-best in baseball. Cole Sands has only given up a run over 12 1/3 innings out of the bullpen.
What To Watch For- The Twins lost two out of three games against the Indians in early-May. This will be a huge four-game set for the Indians, who want to get back into the division race. Pablo Lopez gave up a run over 6 1/3 innings in his only start against the Indians. Aaron Civale is (1-4) with a 4.20 ERA in eight starts against the Twins. Bailey Ober is (1-1) with a 1.64 ERA in four starts versus the Indians. Logan Allen gave up two runs over 5 2/3 innings in his lone start against the Twins on May 6th. Sonny Gray is (6-4) with a 3.63 ERA in sixteen starts versus Cleveland. Cal Quantrill is (5-0) with a 3.23 ERA in eleven games against the Twins. Alex Kirilloff has two career homers off Quantrill. Joe Ryan is (3-1) with a 1.67 ERA in six starts against the Tribe. It should be a fun weekend of giveaways at Target Field. It’s Prince Night on Friday night then Joe Ryan bobblehead night on Saturday.
