On the assumption that there were close relations between Balar and the Havens of Sirion, thinking about the implications of the leading Gil-gaDad theories for the political and personal dynamics surrounding the sack of Sirion.
Gil-galad Fingonion: Maedhros leads (?) an attack against a settlement allied with (?), possibly under the protection of (?), the friend (?) he "got killed" (ish) in the Nirnaeth. Imagine those ships hastening from Balar being commanded by Fingon's son. (And if he's Gil-galad Russingonion? Well, now those ships are being commanded by Maedhros' son.) And whether or not Maedhros/anyone knows he's Fingon's son, the personal drama is still insane.
Gil-galad Orodrethion: This one I have an existing headcanon about, which is that the Feanorians (esp. their followers, whether or not the sons feel this way is largely irrelevant) don't acknowledge the claim to kingship by an heir of Finarfin's line. Based on their attitude towards the Arafinweans in canon (even if Maedhros and Maglor seem a little better about it), I don't think they'd feel much personal connection to this grandson of Angrod they've probably never met. I think the drama here is far less personal on both sides. In fact, there might be open political animosity. Still very high drama.
As I've posted about before, Gil-galad and Cirdan "hastening to the aid" of the Sirionites was an editorial insertion to the published Silm. I'm fairly convinced that Tolkien would have made the same decision about this as his son (where else would he be? what kind of guy would he be if he didn't try to help?) but there is So Much I want to know about how it changes the story. And of course Gil-galad's parentage has to be folded into the whole issue.
How would the dynamics change with your favourite (or crackiest) Gil-galad parentage theory?
#gil galad#gil-galad#third kinslaying#gil-galad son of plothole#gil-gaDad#anyway I just decided not to address this in my WiP#I think it's easiest to make him Orodreth's son in this scenario and that's my headcanon#but the Fingonion option is so high drama to me#fuck it I'm making a fic tag#*and love grew

I have a personal theory to reconcle all (and I do mean all) of Gil-galad parentage candidates. It contradicts probably like, a thousand pieces of canon to work, but I like it.
At some point during the long peace fingon has what we could call an indiscretion with a Sinda woman, related closely to Thingol. They can't get married, since he is a kinslayer, so. Time to find a relative who can pass the baby off as their own. Mom doesn't have any siblings, and most of her close relatives are people who would tell Thingol, and that would start the whole thing they are trying to avoid. So her side of the family is out.
Fingolfin calls a meeting while Fingon is doing his best to melt into the floor, so Finrod and Maedhros can both give looks of slight disaproval. Maedhros takes notes because he likes keeping a record of things. Finrod is the first to volunteer until he is reminded he has a fiance hundreds of miles away. Then they go through the Feanorians, but unfortunately, the ones that look like Fingon are married with their wives, again, hundred of miles away. You could try to pass the (yet unborn) baby off as one of the remaining brother's, but they don't know what the baby looks like, so they would have to wait until the baby is born to find a mother who looks like him. All of the Feanorians are out.
Until someone mentions, hey, didn't Orodreth get married recently? While he does have golden hair, he does have enough Telerin ancestry to have a silver haired child. And his wife, meanwhile, has dark hair! No matter what the baby looks like, it will look a little bit like one of his parents, at least. Plus, the Time of the Children is not yet over. It is likely, even that they would have a child, unlike all the impossible fathers mentioned above.
So, mom moves to Nargothrond in friendship with Earwen's kin and is now the baby's teacher, Fingon visits Finrod super often and surprise! Orodreth chooses him as whatever the elivish equivalent of a godfather. So when teen Gil-galad goes with his godfather to study for a few years, of course his main teacher is going with him. And they live happily ever after until they all die horribly.
And someday, some historian from Numenor goes to Himring and finds the notes from the meeting and has so many questions. Gil-galad son of Finrod??? Feanorian Gil-galad??? He asks Gil-galad who genuinely no idea and a thousand conspiracy theories are born.

A tiny elfling comes wandering up to Gil and holds up his arms. “Can you help me fine my Ada?”
(Have a lil Elladan.)
He looks older in these days, and he does feel like that, too. The nearly fatal wounds sustained at their last war nearly made him reach the Halls of Mandos before his time, but the most visible consequences lay in the winter that seems to have settled upon his frame.
But it is life, persevering.
Like all the new children that now grace their cities, born without the shadows of the east threatening their peace.
When he bends to scoop Elladan up, he cannot help but marvel again at how stupidly tiny children are. With the elfling secure in his arms, Gil-galad turns around, as though looking for someone.
“Have you lost him? Again?” he asks in fake incredulity. Then he bops Elladan's nose with a fingertip, and lowers his tone to a secretive whisper. “We should add a few bells to his shoes, don't you think?”
#royal mail (answered)#nonnie#here comes Gil-gadad#I assume he wanted to be scooped up but i can change it if it doesn't work for you

For the RoP ask game: 8, 10, 14 (again)
Hellooooo!
Thank you for these!
"What accessory would you like most to own? (sword, brooch, crown, etc.)"
Ok so we've learnt how indecisive I am with these things...in that spirit I have to say it's a tie between Elrond's s2 sword or Narsil.
I prefer the design of Elrond's, but I'd love to have Narsil just to swish it like Elendil (and Aragorn with Anduril) did! I quite like the curve of the Elvish weapons though.
I just want any sword to be honest😂
"Choose three characters. What jobs would they have if they lived in our time?"
Ooh I'm loving this one!
Galadriel - I'm going off of her sense of adventure and her kindness towards others, so I think she'd be travelling to different countries to set up conservation projects. There's lots of orangutan sanctuaries in Borneo and I can picture her rescuing them from markets and taking them to be looked after, much like she did with Elrond haha. If she takes a break from travelling, I think she'd be a brilliant karate teacher.
Arondir - he runs the activities at outdoor adventure centres, particularly excelling at archery. He doesn't tell the kids off for talking when they're supposed to be asleep, either. He needs somewhere to put his Arondad™ energy! He gives me volunteer vibes, so maybe he organises hikes to raise money for charities, especially ones dealing with sickness, as a result of Bronwyn's passing.
Gil-Galad - Hairdresser. You can pry this idea from my cold, dead hands😂that man's hair is immaculate and he'd be great at sensing if the person was chatty or not. Also the gossip would be unreal. If, in the real world, he had children, he'd also head up the Parent Teacher Association like a boss, organising bake sales and making school play costumes, because he needs somewhere to put his Gil-Gadad™ energy
"Do you have a song you associate with a favourite character?"
So I've done Elrond already, so methinks it's Galadriel's turn!
Again...I'm so sorry but I have two songs😅
First is "Falling" by Florence and the Machine (so many of her songs are TROP-character-coded, I swear) partially because of the link to her fall at the end of s2, but also "fallen out of favour, fallen out of grace" just remind me of her at the beginning of s1 when she was sent away to Valinor to heal. Also "it's only when I hit the ground it causes all the grief" again reminiscent of ✨️that scene✨️
Secondly, is "The Woods" by Daughter because of the line "we were trying to stop the winter, killing all it could" isn't that exactly s2 ep1 Galadriel, trying to stop the darkness, it fits her so well!
Thank you so much for these asks!

The King's Herald Prologue (Elrond x reader)
warning: she/her, reader referred to as princess, shitty babysitter, protective gil gadad, no elrond yet - this is just setting up dynamics
Summary: As heir to the Noldorian throne, it's about time you learn how to be a proper diplomat. It just so happens that your father's new herald is more than happy to help you settle back into life in Lindon.
Relationships: Gil-Galad + daughter! reader, Cirdan + reader, Elrond x reader
Note: this is a mix of the ROP canon and Tolkien canon
masterlist | elves
"Atar!"
The piercing cry of the young elleth thoroughly startled the High-King, making him drop the letter he'd been completely absorbed by. Gil-Galad looked up just in time to catch sight of his daughter charging towards the head of the table where he was sat. Her little legs a blur as she tried to swiftly cover the distance between him and the entryway.
Realizing her intentions, he scooted his chair back to create a safe landing place for the young girl as she leapt at him. He caught her fast and pulled her into his chest before the small child could go flying face first onto the floor. "Woah, anel!" He exclaimed while the child erupted into a flurry of giggles as she wrapped her arms around his neck in a tight hug. "Where are your caretakers?"
"We're playing hide and seek!" She cheered right into his ear. Gil-Galad felt his eye twitch.
"I see," he said, gently pushing his daughter back but keeping his hold on her lest she fall off his lap onto the floor, "And are they aware they're playing?"
At that, her face fell into a look that told Gil-Galad he'd caught her. The High King had to fight the urge to roll his eyes. He'd avoided accidentally teaching her that expression of annoyance thus far - he loathed the day she finally found its power. "Anel," he admonished, "you know better than to run off on them." Her face fell further, taking her head with it. "They're probably worried sick."
"I just wanted to see you." She muttered, retracting her arms from his neck.
Gil-Galad sighed already caving at the sight of her saddened face, though frustrated with his daughter he couldn't bear to see her upset. "Merca alma," he brought a hand to her tiny chin, "lift your head." With gentle prompting, she did but she would not meet his eye. Gil-Galad's heart clenched when he realized it was because she was trying to hide the tears that were starting to gather. "I am not angry with you, anel nin." She tentatively looked at him. "But you must know that this behavior is unbecoming."
"I know..." she sighed, looking away again. "I just...I was lonely, atar. The caretakers never want to talk to me and I never get to see you anymore."
Gil-Galad's face fell. It was true that he hadn't had any time to spare his adopted daughter ever since he became High-King of the Noldor and now he could see lurking in the depths of her eyes that the separation was taking its toll on her. Casting his gaze to the letter detailing the latest struggles of Beleriand, he made a decision. While he couldn't leave the matter be, there was a way to also enjoy some quality time with the girl. "Anel nin, dry the tears in your eyes. I have a task for both of us."
Her head tilted to the side as her undefined brow furrowed. "For both of us?" She echoed.
Gil-Galad nodded. "I have also missed our time together, anel nin. But, until the darkness is gone from this land we will continue to be separated." She frowned but he pressed on. "So, that leaves us with only one option."
"Banish the darkness?" The elfling hazard, voice sounding shaky.
Gil-Galad nodded and lifted the girl off his lap to set her back on the ground before rising himself and snatching the letter off the the table. "Precisely, and we'll start doing that together. Come along." He started walking, trusting that the little girl would find a way to keep up with his long strides. "You are going to help me draft an address, merca alma."
"An address?" Her bell like voice piped from behind him. "What's that?"
"A letter." He amended. "You'll send countless in your lifetime." Gil-Galad turned down the hallway that led to his study.
"Oh." His daughter hummed in thought. "Who are we-?"
"Aranel! There you are!" A scolding feminine voice suddenly boomed down the hallway, making both elves pause - the younger of the two taking shelter behind her father's midnight blue cloak. Gil-Galad raised his gaze from the girl that clung to his leg and to her caretaker - Almarian, if he remembered her name right - who was approaching with a thunderous expression. Only to falter when she realized he was there. "Oh, Your Grace," She drew up short and fell into a curtsy. "A thousand apologies, my king," The pale haired old elleth began to ramble, ripping her gaze away from his eye to stare down the young girl still cowering behind him, "The princess managed to slip out of her room without our notice. I hope she hasn't been bothering-"
"Quite the feat," Gil-Galad interrupted, "considering she is but a child and you are four keen-eyed caretakers." Her face paled. "And I can assure you that my daughter is no bother. Not to me," the high king narrowed his gaze at the uncomfortable elleth, "nor should you consider her one." When Almarian failed to respond in a timely manner, Gil-Galad reached behind him to nudge the girl into her line of sight. "My daughter will be spending the rest of the day with me." He said icily and watched as the elleth before him squirmed. Normally, he didn't like pulling cheap power plays like this - but a line had been crossed. "I suggest you return to your comrades and tell them that I will be arranging a meeting with all of you to discuss how my daughter is being cared for. You are dismissed, Almarian." He hissed her name and she at least had the decency to look abashed. "Now," he turned his attention back to his daughter, laying a hand atop her head, "come along, ingaranel."
Turning on his heel, he started to walk, but was stopped after taking a single step by the feeling of his daughter's tiny hand taking hold of his. Gil-Galad looked down to find her beaming up at him, her eyes twinkling as if they held stars within them. "Thank you, atar."

Sometimes I wish Fingon/Odoreth was popular, so there would be more fanfics of them both as Gil-Galad's fathers, it's practically impossible to find this
The ultimate Gil-gadad solution, isn't it? Besides sharing possible Gil-galad paternity though, it takes some creative juices to imagine what could bring these two together. They seem to have rather opposite temperaments. But perhaps that's the attraction!
Your Ask sent me looking for this pairing on AO3, though, and I found the lone (!) Fingon/Orodreth fic by Perching. It was a great read, very cheeky, and I loved Finrod's supporting role.

Elenna rolled over in bed, a manoeuvre that was getting rather difficult in her eighth month of pregnancy. Luckily this time she had the bed for herself, and after a couple of attempts, she managed to sit on the edge.
It was still dark outside, the moon had gone and only the pale light of the stars illuminated the bedroom. Elenna made her way to the bathroom for the third time that night. Getting a full night of uninterrupted sleep was now a thing of the past, and she knew if was not on her near future either.
After relieving herself again, Elenna felt her way back to the bedroom and looked for one of her husband’s nightrobes, her own already too small to fully wrap over the swell of her stomach.
She then padded on to the hallway. Her slippers did not fit her anymore either, and Elenna was growing increasingly irritated with the whole pregnancy affair. It felt as if her body was no longer her own, and had begun changing in ways she did not want it to. Everyone had complimented her on that “pregnancy glow”; the way her hair and skin looked, but all she could feel right now was exhaustion, and a desire for it to be over and have her child in her arms. That and hunger.
She was making her way down to the palace kitchens when she spotted a sliver of light creeping from under the door to Ereinion’s study. He had not wanted to disturb her sleep and had got up to busy himself with something. She walked in without bothering to knock; it was unlikely anyone would be in there with him at such an early hour.
“I’m hungry.” She pouted. One of the few good things was that Ereinion constantly fussed over her, and as annoying as it was most of the time, she knew she could also get anything to eat whenever she wanted it. As the most superior cook of the two, and with Elenna not being able to manage the kitchen due to her increased girth, Ereinion had appointed himself Chief Provider of Snacks at Ungodly Hours, and she made him work hard in his new role.
