Postpone The Wedding!! -Wedding Planning PT 8
Genesis 24:54-61 NKJV[54] And he and the men who were with him ate and drank and stayed all night. Then they arose in the morning, and he said, “Send me away to my master.” [55] But her brother and her mother said, “Let the young woman stay with us a few days, at least ten; after that she may go.” [56] And he said to them, “Do not hinder me, since the Lord has prospered my way; send me away so…

I’m planning my trad wedding and white wedding and I’m stressed to the highest capacity. Any Any helpful Tips? Being west African is not for the weak lol. Even considering not getting married traditionally (Nigerian wedding) and just doing my white wedding. I think you mentioned being Ghanaian or your fiancé being Ghanaian are you planning for both ? My family definitely has so many opinions and I’m so over it especially when talking about bride price girl I’m about to elope 😂
Hi Sissy Pooh! And Happy New Year!
How soon is the wedding? And yes, my fiancé is Ghanaian and I am Haitian, and we've definitely dealt with the outside opinions on both sides of our soon to be married family.
But honestly........
Real tea.....
You and him have to stand your ground. I know with foreign cultures, parents and other families feel like they are entitled to try to persuade you to do things how they would have done it - or should do it. But y'all are adults.
But you're right. It can be stressful. And not just because planning a wedding is stressful but I'm pretty sure you both love your families and would love to find some type of resolution where everyone is happy and no one feels disrespected or disregarded in anyway.
I'd start with sitting the people who are stressing you out down - INDIVIDUALLY! People 40+ who always have an opinion act out even more in front of an audience. But sit them down and talk to them assertively, so they understand that this is your life, your wedding, and your marriage most importantly. But be respectful though because deep down, most of the dysfunction and drama comes from a place of love. Our parents, aunties and uncles come from the time where their parents dictated every aspect of their life, even into their adulthood. They are just displaying learned behaviors. We're the ones that God has chosen to unlearn and heal for the future generations to come.
For example:
When I first started dating my fiancé, my mother wanted to dictate how we date, when she would meet him and his family and so on. It honestly got to a point where I had to distance myself from my mom because I felt like every time we talked, it was about how I should go about doing things in my relationship to cater to how she believed it should be. Fast forward to January of 2024, my fiancé and I had decided to move in together and I had to put on my big girl panties and let my mom know. This is where I bring respect into the mix. I had to inform my mother that I was moving in with my fiancé because 1) I was moving to another state and 2) she's my mother and deserves to know of my whereabouts for safety reasons. So instead of taking it as "swallowing my pride" it was more of showing my mom that I am an adult who is going to make decisions that she may not agree with, which is her prerogative, but I am going to proceed with my plans - and that was a statement where there was a period at the end and not a question mark. Meaning I respect you enough to inform you of my decision, but my decision needs to be respected and this is not up for debate. And it wasn't. She definitely didn't agree, but I believe the tone of the conversation showed that I was serious and my decision was final. I also believe the reason there wasn't so much back and forth in the discussion was she didn't have an audience to perform for. I know that sounds crazy but it's true - they love to bring all of the dramatics when there's more eyes and ears.
Honestly Sissy Pooh, you and your fiancé need to sit down together and decide what you want concretely. After that, the people you feel you owe an explanation to (I would cap it at parents if feasible), talk to them individually with respect but assertively. Again, when you marry this man, you go to bed with him at night, not anyone else. If there are things you both want to do or choose not to do, it's no ones job to interfere with it because it will be your marriage, not there's.
But, you'll be fine and I pray the grace of God finds you and your fiancé to make the right decisions needed to go into your marriage.
And remember, keep God in the loop. Marriage is between you, your husband and our creator.
With love,
Sarah Chanel

Ghanaian Couple's Wedding Photography and Videography Service in South East London, England
We provided wedding photography and videography service to a friendly Ghanaian couple in Bromley, South East London last Autumn.
https://www.foreverlovewedding.com/
This is another wedding story we witnessed with our cameras. A couple of months before their wedding day, we have provided them with an engagement photography & videography service in Central London with some romantic touches in our shoots.
They were actually planning to take their engagement and wedding ceremonies in Birmingham before but after some family discussions, they decided to have both shoots in London.
Feel free to check their engagement story photos here on our website and our Vimeo page for their videos. Unlike other modern weddings, the couple opted for a traditional wedding, which means the groom would not see the bride before her father gave her away.
This couple comes from quite religious families. The bride's father is a priest. Just before she left her home, her mother gave her a simple prayer and blessed her by putting the Tierra on her head. She has also given her some advice on how she should treat her family and husband.
After that, we arrived at the bride's parent's church for a 2 hours long ceremony. Lovely bride was brought to the first time seeing her future husband by her priest father's hands. It was so romantic for the couple and for their guests. There were a few priests giving sermons. From that, we can understand the church is very close to the couple. The congregation treats her as a daughter.
The ceremony, banquet and party were held at Anerley Methodist Church, Anerley, Bromley, South East London.
They had a quite intimate banquet with all their close family members, relatives and guests who are also members of their own church. Their priests who attended their wedding also joined their party dance. What a great mixture of Ghanaian traditional style and western style wedding!
We really enjoyed their wedding from the morning until night, and editing their photos and videos.
Wish them all the best and have a happy married life ever-after.
Feel free to take a look at their photos, highlight & feature videos and live stream clips on our Facebook page, our website and on our Youtube & Vimeo channel.
Thank you

How I started my business creating African puzzles
About Me
Hi!, my name is Patrick Adom, and I’m a Ghanaian entrepreneur. Stick with me for a few minutes to find out how I started my own business called ‘Very Puzzled’.
I was born in Ghana and moved to the UK when I was seven. This is a pretty common narrative. Like most African parents, my mum was very focused on all of her children doing their best academically. With her support and encouragement, I graduated with a BSc in Computing and went on to do an MBA in General Management. I have worked in IT ever since, graduating in 2000.
This story starts when I visited Ghana in 2001 for the first time since I moved to the UK. The trip was amazing and on returning to the UK I set up a couple of websites to promote Ghanaian culture. I wanted to provide updates on events and news occurring in the Ghanaian community in the UK. As hard as it is to believe, this was at a time before Facebook, WhatsApp and smart phones etc.  Unfortunately, the websites are now defunct, however I kept my goal to provide a positive image of Ghana and Africa.
My Why – The impetus
Fast forward to 2011 and I’m the father of a beautiful little girl. Having my daughter gave me a sense of purpose that I didn’t have before. Moreover, it provided me with added impetus to fulfil the ambitions that I had left on the back burner for different reasons.
As my daughter was growing up, one of the things that struck me was the lack of diversity in the books, toys, clothes and other items that I would buy for her.  It was really discouraging not having any books with characters that looked like her. I reached out to my dad in Ghana to send over some books. This led to some business ideas on how to meet this demand. Describing one of my ideas to a cousin at a wedding, I could see that I had lost his attention in less than 30 seconds . I then mentioned the idea of an Africa map jigsaw puzzle and immediately I saw a different reaction. He was suddenly excited and interested in the idea.
From idea to puzzles
Towards the end of 2017 I began to research jigsaw puzzles; where to get them manufactured, the costs of getting the puzzles manufactured and shipped to the UK. I also refined and developed the items that would feature on the Africa jigsaw puzzle map. I found a designer who had produced an image of Africa that I liked and he was happy to amend his image to include additional items that I provided. My initial stock order of 100 puzzles arrived at the end of April 2018.
Prior to the puzzles arriving, I had started to post on Instagram and had already reached out to a few shops that I thought would be interested in stocking them. On the week that my puzzles arrived there was an event organised by Black History Studies UK showing a film about Winnie Mandela. I attended the screening and also purchased a stall to sell my puzzles.
Getting out there
The event was great and I sold around a quarter of my initial stock so I was on a high! The next day was a Saturday and I drove around to a few shops with my puzzles in the boot of my car and managed to sell a further 25 puzzles. After this initial early success I ordered some more puzzles.  Some of the shops that I visited also recommended other shops that might be interested which was really good. Here is an example of the email I sent round:
So far things have been really positive and the feedback from people has been really good. I had initially thought that most of my sales would come from my website however most sales I make are through the shops that stock my puzzles. Before the end of 2018, I was able to launch a Ghana map jigsaw puzzle.  The plan is to launch puzzles for Nigeria, South Africa, Ethiopia and Jamaica and then other countries. I also want to have additional products such as t-shirts, sweat shirts, tote bags, posters etc. One of my more creative ideas are activity books that children can colour in and read. As they do this, they will learn more about the different countries in Africa.
Aside from launching additional puzzles, my objective for 2019 has been to get my puzzles stocked in the chain retailers in Ghana.  In order to accomplish my objectives I went to Ghana for Easter, taking my daughter with me. The two of us were able to attend meetings with some of the biggest African retailers. So far the feedback has been positive and the next phase involves delivering puzzles to the shops
Problems can be turned into opportunities
Doing business in Ghana has been a challenge as people prefer face-to-face meetings so my initial emails were not successful. However, once I was on the ground, things went well.  A major objective that I am looking at is how I can manufacture the puzzles myself in Ghana, I think that this is important for me to be able to do if I want to grow my business to it’s full potential.
I don’t believe that I have had any really challenges or obstacles to overcome. I generally look at these as being good things and try to find the opportunity that they present.  After the Ghana map was designed and printed, Ghana went from 10 to 16 regions. Therefore, my map became out of date and is now being redesigned. This has given me the opportunity to revamp the design of the box to include country information on the back and incorporate a barcode which is essential for the chain retailers. I have also had to change designers. However, the new designer is very competent and also provides a lot of feedback and suggestions so this has been positive.
One of the major retailers in Ghana challenged me on the price of my puzzles. They refused to stock my puzzles unless the price can be reduced. This has opened my eyes to the need to be able to make the puzzles myself and make them more affordable and spurred me on to look at setting up a manufacturing operation in Ghana more quickly than I had originally planned.
Changing me to fit the bill
I tend to like being anonymous and being able to quietly work away behind the scenes, however I have realised that I need to go out and network in person, reach out to people online and also share my story in order to reach as wide an audience as possible.
There is a lot of advice that a lot of more qualified people can give that you can find online and in books etc.  What spurred me on was to just go ahead and Just do it. Once you start you can always adjust as needed. I think that starting and continuing to go on are what counts. If you want to know more about my puzzles, follow me on twitter, instagram and checkout my website.

Sweaty and Full of Life
What a week! I can hardly believe that today is our last day in Sunyani. It’s truly been a whirlwind.
Wednesday
On Wed morning the group split up into two with half of us visiting a wound clinic and the other half visiting a Rehab facility. I was in the group that visited the Rehab Centre and I was extremely impressed. The facility is run by a retired Ghanaian physician, Dr. Charles Mensah, who has experience in Holland and Switzerland and has come back to Ghana to give back to his community. I think the piece that struck me the most was his passion for giving back and genuinely helping people. His centre is equipped with a rehab room for children, the elderly, and a workshop where members custom make proesthetics. The Center is a privately run clinic but Dr. Menseh was able to secure some support from the Ghanaian government through the commissioning of people resources. As a result of being a private clinic, patients are required to pay for their treatment but about half of his patients can’t afford their treatment so he provides it for free. He’s a very spiritual individual and I think part of his compassion stems from that. He’s also an extremely bright individual that you can learn so much from. Two days a week he does outreach to support 4 regions around Sunyani and so we arranged to have a couple of individuals from our team to join him the next day. You can learn more about his clinic here:  https://www.hopecar.org/.
Tumblr media
After Dr. Menseh’s clinic we visited the Methodist Church to meet with the Reverend of the church. It seems that religion is a huge part of life here and we wanted to learn more about the role it plays in supporting the community particularly when it comes to elder care. We got to learn a lot about the perceptions of hiring an external caregiver. In Ghana, this is seen as a really unfortunate situation for elders to be in and the younger generation who hires the caregiver are criticized for doing as such. The expectation is that family should take care of their elders and any non-family care is looked down upon.
We finished off our day of interviews by visiting a nursing and midwifery school. I found this session particularly fun. We all split off into smaller groups so Tina and I had a group of ~20 female nursing students in our focus group. A lot of the students were quite shy and as in any typical classroom setting, there were 3-4 really vocal students who shared some real personal and candid experiences both in their professional and personal lives when it comes to compassionate care and care for the elderly. They all wanted to take group pictures afterwards and get my contact information which was very sweet. I find this is quite normal in Ghanaian culture but this particular experience felt endearing given how shy some of the girls had been.
After that our team had the opportunity to walk around and do some shopping at Sunyani’s weekly market. We collected some fresh produce for a delicious vegetarian meal at home. This made me quite happy as there is a lot of meat featured in traditional Ghanaian food and as someone who is not a big meat eater, I’ve been craving good vegetarian cuisine.

Thursday
Thursday was our symposium day! Emily gave us the morning off the prepare for our presentation and get a bit of a mental break from all the interviews. Ashlee went with Ellen, Emily’s sister and a professor of anthropology that is with us on this trip, to join Dr. Manseh for their outreach visits.
The symposium itself was quite fun. We got to hear from Vancouver Island University who has a tourism faculty. A professor from VIU does a lot of work in Ghana so she had a group of about 10 students with her as they explore tourism in parts of rural Ghana. We also got to hear from the Nanaimo Rotarian members on the ongoing projects they have partnerships with in the Sunyani area. We’ll be heading out to Wechiau with the VIU group this weekend where they have a hippo sanctuary. The VIU group will be staying there for the next couple weeks while we head off the Mole National Park on Sunday before resuming work back in Accra next week!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Friday
This morning we woke up bright and early to head off to Nanketiwa village. The Nanaimo Rotary club has a couple projects out there so we leveraged their contacts to interview some local villagers. Nanketiwa has a Northern Empowerment Association which has been set up with PLAN Ghana, a NGO. This Association essentially is about women supporting women in the community. Farming is their livelihood and PLAN Ghana provides a variety of skilled training in this area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next we have one more hospital visit – a private hospital which we’re really eager to see. It has been around for over 30 years and all of our exposure thus far has been with the public system. We’ve heard mixed things about the private sector of healthcare in Ghana and is definitely a piece of our research that we want to flush out further.

Groom Dumps Bride For Cheating On Their Wedding Day
Groom Dumps Bride For Cheating On Their Wedding Day
A Ghanaian man dumped his spouse on their wedding day for cheating the night before with her ex-boyfriend. This happened after the public saw the bride crying and throwing herself all over the angry groom. A video shows a rather negative story about a man who had given up on his plan to marry a woman. No amount of comforting the upset woman, who paced up and down, threw herself on the ground,…

If It Is Of Faith, It Will Be Tried (Wedding Planning PT 7)
Towards the tail end of last year I was in Kaduna Nigeria where I met a father of the faith. As I shared with him about my upcoming wedding plans etc, he told me, “always remember, if it is of faith, it will be tried. The word of God is tried as silver passes through the fire seven times (Psalm 12:6). He said what do you do when the word is being tried? You stand kempe. No retreat, no surrender.…

Ring-a-Ling-a-Ling
Merry Christmas Sissy Poohs!
It's official.
They do say the highest form of manifestation is delusion right, lol.
Not really, I was never delusional. I was intentional with what I wanted and what I believed God wanted for me as well. If you're not sure what I am talking about because you're new, Hey Sissy Pooh! Welcome to the Pretty Girl sanctuary.
Tumblr media
I want to say it was going into the New Year of 2022, I made a post about not doing the whole "New Year's Resolution" thing. And I have stuck to that. Since 2022, I had decided to move with intentionality. Meaning, if something goes against my better interest religiously, personally, romantically, financially, etc (I think you get the point), I have no desire to figure out who, what, when, where, why or how. It doesn't matter or benefit me. This has been the most impactful in my love life.
Tumblr media
NOV. 30TH 2024, The Botanical Garden.
I said "yes" to my Ghanaian King for forever. When I tell you I love this man so much and I am so thankful to God for my man. He is everything I ever prayed for and more. I love him like Songs of Solomon.
Fun fact, being a Caribbean Princess, I feel like I am clairvoyant sometimes.
Story time.
A random day in October, I woke up from a dream that I had where I saw that my beloved had proposed with this futuristic technologically advanced ring (also, my dreams are so wild and very imaginative). It wasn't the ring that really sparked my interest, it was the fact that I had such a vivid dream about him proposing.
I called my little sister.
Tumblr media
I told her about the dream and she was like "he's definitely going to pop the question soon".
Now, there's going to be a lot of back and forth, so I'm going to need you all to really make sure you have your thinking caps on.
Tumblr media
The day of the proposal, my sister and I also did our Christmas pictures for out annual Christmas cards as well. After our portion, I went and got changed. My boyfriend (at the time) had told me since we had gotten a photographer for my sister and I's photos, we might as well get a couples photo for us as well. After I get changed, and I'm getting set for our pictures, my sister says "wait, let me fix your hair". And my sister is a seriously emotional person; her eyes were full of tears. I asked her is she okay and she replied "you just look so beautiful".
And then I turned around.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And said "YES"!
My sister knew from the beginning. The day I called her about the dream is the same day he told her he was going to propose. See, clairvoyance I tell you.
I called my closest girlfriends and certain family members to relay the news. I did not post the pictures on my social media pages - but that will be another post for another day.
So the plan is, God-willing, to elope some time in the early Spring, and start planning for a 2026 (Spring or Fall) wedding. Something very private, very demure - specifically, Parisian in Paris.
Tumblr media
I always said I wanted to get married in France and he wants to gift that to me.
Tumblr media
I definitely have more stories coming - but that was an important event to speak on.
Again Merry Christmas Sissy Poohs!
I would say Happy New Year but you'll hear from me again before the year is up.
Tumblr media
With love,
Sarah Chanel and Family.
P.S.
We opened our Christmas gifts early.

Engagement Photography and Videography Service in Central London, England
We have provided two hours engagement photography and videography service for an intimate Ghanaian couple in central London.
https://www.foreverlovewedding.com/
This sweet couple actually lives in Birmingham and they don't know so much things in central London. So, they have asked us to take their photo and video film at particular landmarks of London.
We suggested them for Buckingham Palace and met them up in Green Park which is next to the Palace. We started our shoots when nearly sunset going down in the Park and walked in front of the Palace.
vimeo
After, the shooting around Palace, we carried onto our photoshoot and video filming in St James Park for some greenery and romantic backgrounds during the dusk. Because of the sun has already gone, the night time dark environment helped us to take the shoots how we wanted.
We have finished our shoot near Piccadilly Circus while they gave us their love story of how began falling in love, and what their plans are for their coming wedding, also their near future plan in the interview recording with us.
We are now waiting their grand wedding in Autumn. Looking forward to it.
Feel free to take a look at our Facebook page, Vimeo page and our website to see their more photos and video film.

When one is the biggest popstar in the world, introductions are generally not needed. But he does it anyway. “Hi man, I’m Ed. Nice to meet you.”
In a private room inside Warner’s UK headquarters in west London, Ed Sheeran is at ease, looking nothing like someone who has spent the best part of a freezing Monday doing a string of interviews with the world’s media.
But then the 26-year-old has many reasons to be at peace. His latest album, Divide , is the fastest-selling by a male artist of all time, featuring more top 10 singles than any other studio album in history. It has also spent more than 30 consecutive weeks in the top 3. That, for Sheeran, is success. “When I make a record I want the whole world to hear it. I was that musician who played at the pub to nobody and I fucking hated it. It’s horrible not having people appreciate the music that you make.”
Sheeran’s journey to this point – global acclaim, rubbing shoulders with Hollywood royalty, and actual royalty – was marked by a series of events that suggest he is either the luckiest man alive or the most industrious artist in showbiz. The most sensible explanation, of course, is that he is both.
It did of course not always look like it would turn out this way. In 2008, he dropped out of school, leaving Suffolk for London, where he didn’t know anyone. What followed was the typical tale of the struggling artist in the big city: searching for gigs, sleeping on people’s couches, eating out of a tin can, sleeping rough. At a time when there is a heated debate on who is able to pursue artistic endeavors in 2017 Britain, Sheeran doesn’t for one second agree with the notion that money and class gives you a leg up in the music world.
“Mate, you must know so many fucking people that come from money and haven’t made successes out of themselves. The hardest I ever worked was when I didn’t have a pot to piss in. When you have money and you’re comfortable like that, and you are given something to fall back on, there’s no drive, there’s no enthusiasm because there is always a plan B. Music doesn’t suffer fools gladly. The general public can read someone and whether they are in it for the right reasons and how they got there.”
Today, perhaps with the exception of Adele, Sheeran is the best-selling music act on the planet. Sitting across from him on a cushy leather couch, though, it feels like I’m back in the students’ union bar, shooting the breeze with my uni mates. But behind the boyish armour – the scruffy hair, baggy jeans, skater hoodie, and the occasional curse word – there’s an accountant, a marketing executive, a CEO. “I care. I care about how the record is doing. That’s not a financial thing. I don’t care about money at all. As you can see, I’m not a very materialistic sort of person. But you have to be business savvy and make the album as big as it can be so more people listen to it.”
In July 2016, Sheeran played unaccompanied to 90,000 people for three nights at Wembley Stadium, a high-wire act captured in the documentary Jumpers For Goalposts. Sir Elton John told him on stage: “You’re the only person in the world who could do this on your own.”
Fame, of course, took over, and he unapologetically lived up to the famous cliché of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. “You have to get lost in the sauce, man. Everyone has curiosities. I could be warned a million times not to do something but I’m still going to at least try it.” Today, though, the man whose songs have been played at countless weddings around the world says he is happier than he has ever been. “I’m in a such strong relationship now with a girl I grew up with and she’s fantastic. There’s no temptation there. It’s like when people go to university and spend three years just sleeping around. You need to do that to get it out of your system.”
Although I cannot call myself a fan, Divide does capture the musical zeitgeist. Sheeran included a couple of rap and hip hop influenced tracks, while paying homage to his heavy metal and punk influences. There’s also the song “Bibia Be Ye Ye” (meaning “All will be well”), an afro-beats tune he co-wrote with Fuse ODG, a British artist of Ghanaian descent. The music video was shot in the streets of Accra, where Sheeran lived for a while. It has amassed more than 46 million views on YouTube so far.
And yet, for all his eclecticism and willingness to collaborate with artists from a variety of backgrounds, Sheeran has not been immune to accusations of cultural appropriation, something he vehemently contests. “One, I made it [the song] with Ghanaian musicians who are all getting paid from the song. And two, the song sold two million copies. Everyone is eating off that. Cultural appropriation is a thing that is rife in the music industry but if you collaborate correctly and respectfully, and give back to the culture you are being influenced by, I have no conscience about it because I know I did it the right way.”
There is a refreshing lack of wow factor about Ed Sheeran. I come away impressed by his candour and generosity. We had 20 minutes scheduled but ended up speaking for almost 40. He still looks and sounds like the down and out London musician he once was, struggling to make rent, playing in a pub to no one.
Not surprisingly, when I ask him about being a touring British superstar in the era of Brexit, he turns to self-deprecation. “Mate, no one fucking cares about what I think about anything. No one is going to listen to me. I make fucking love songs that people want to get married to. That’s where I stand and that’s where I’m quite happy being. I will say this, though: I’m a European and will remain a European forever.”
