Red Cliff Part One Thoughts

I really like the style/design (idk proper terminology) whatever. The sets and the locations! The cinematography. It's all really pretty!

My heart was breaking in literally the very first scene with Emperor Xian and the little birdie and he looked so happy for a single second in his miserable life and then Cao Cao came in and he just went... deflate :(

Speaking of Cao Cao.. he didn't really do it for me. He lacked a certain chaotic pizzazz that I think Cao Cao should have. Like he was just Some Guy who occasionally went into Cartoon Villian mode and it was just a bit... bleh. He looked ok though.

Zhuge Liang is kinda cute and I like his energy. His introduction was fun with the way they had him lying in the grass. Looks-wise he doesn't really fit my image of him (i can't deal with his hair being up all the time for a start) but he's still Blorbo™

ZHAO YUN BABY RESCUE ZHAO YUN BABY RESCUE. I didn't initially know the movie covered Changban but I'm SO glad it does.

We haven't seen much of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei but I like that Zhang Fei seems to actually have braincells. It's a nice change. Also the scene with Guan Yu reading to the kids towards the end is so fucking cute.

I was a bit confused about Sun Quan already being styled as a prince because I was sure that didn't happen until later? but maybe i'm wrong. He's kinda hot.

I found it a bit weird that Zhuge Liang could just walk up into his face like that because it feels a bit inappropriate to do that to a prince you have literally only just met?

ZHOU YU??? I HAVE to talk for a long time about Zhou Yu. To me this portrayal is like, the Real™ Zhou Yu. I mean don't get me wrong, I enjoy the petty, competitive little bitch that he often gets portrayed as thanks to Luo Guanzhong, but this dude? He's charming. He's kind. I fell so in love with him. Sure in an ideal world he'd have been more of a prettyboy in the face but hey you can't have everything, and he was still kinda handsome. With a gorgeous smile :)

Oh yeah and the way they introduce him by fixing the flute for that kid. I was like THAT'S HIM THAT'S MY NERD. My HEART.

The romantic and sexual tension between these two is off the charts

They go to see Zhou Yu's pretty wife Xiao Qiao and Zhuge Liang helps her deliver a baby horse... just... because? And they gaze lovingly at each other a bit more

And then they go into a darkened room to have sex play a duet while Xiao Qiao and Lu Su watch on awkwardly.

Then Sun Quan's baby sister Xiaomei shows up and asserts herself as the obligatory Sword Girl™. She insists on being involved in all the action and battle scenes. Which, well, fine I guess. At least she was historically into swords.

Anyway they go hunting and we have to watch a guy almost get eaten by a tiger.

Speaking of girls, after this we have to watch Zhou Yu have ACTUAL sex with his wife (possibly to try and make us forget about his chemistry with Zhuge Liang). Which is fine, I guess. But Xiao Qiao has been pretty much a cardboard cut-out Pretty Wife for most of this. She doesn't have anything inspiring or valuable to say. They don't even mention that she's a good musician too!

Off they all go back to meet Liu Bei + Crew again and they all become FRIENDS and it turns into a really cute buddy movie between Wu and Shu. Liu Bei is WEAVING SHOES.

There's a little bit of dick-measuring, but mostly they all get on and it's cute :)

Then there's a bit long battle or whatever. The most notable moment being Zhou Yu PULLING THE ARROW OUT OF HIS SHOULDER OH GOD WHYYYYY. NOO. WHY WOULD YOU RUIN A PERFECTLY GOOD MOVIE WITH THAT

And then they have a big banquet and Sun Quan decides NOW is the perfect time to propose a marriage between his baby sister and that pathetic old Liu Bei. So she seals Liu Bei's accupoints.

The difference between Zhao Yun and Zhuge Liang's reactions to this is very befitting of their characters I think lmao

Cao Cao continues to be a horny vanilla old dick. Zhuge Liang and Xiaomei play with pigeons and have a cute chat. Which feels good to me because I always saw Liangliang as the type that properly respects women.

Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu have a final little chat where they're like "oh gosh I really hope we don't become enemies :(:(:( " and then that's the end!!

Let me explain how both Blacksun and Bumbleby are fully canon; how Blacksun wasn’t erased to make way  for the Bees, and that actually it is an excellent showcase in character growth in an overarching narrative that we don’t normally see.

I do not think that Bumbleby was planned from RWBY’s conception – however I do believe that them being in a relationship makes sense considering the natural progression of both Blake and Yang’s character arcs.

Often, various narrative based media fall into the trap of tailoring a story and its characters to fit a planned ending – even if the characters have evolved into completely different people from when that ending was conceptualised.

The most well known example of this is happening was with How I Met Your Mother (bare with me, this is relevant). Due to the fact that the actors casted as Ted’s children were going to continue growing, they recorded many of their scenes in the earlier seasons – including the ending, which involved Ted and Robin becoming a couple at the end. The show ended up running for a total of nine seasons, and through those episodes, us as the viewers are shown time and time again the toxicity of Ted and Robin’s relationship, and the eventual build-up of Robin and Barney’s relationship. Heck, the entire final season is set during Barney and Robin’s wedding! These characters had evolved way past what had been planned for them at the shows conception, but instead of changing the ending to reflect the character’s growth, the show runners threw all that development away in order to shoehorn the characters into the planned ending.

You could also argue the same thing happened with Game of Thrones – but I digress.

So, where am I going with this in regard to Blake and her favourite blondes.

Sun is introduced in V1 to be the perfect foil to Blake (just look at their Semblance’s). Sun is outgoing, carefree and open about his Faunus identity, in contrast to Blake’s silent, untrusting and closed off nature. Throughout the Beacon arc, Sun is there to help Blake navigate things post Adam. While Yang, Weiss and Ruby teach Blake to open up, have friends and enjoy life – Sun acts as her connection to the part of her most tainted by Adam’s action, her Faunus heritage and the White Fang. It’s the classic sunshine vs grump troupe, and if RWBY was a typical high school anime then I would imagine Blacksun being endgame.

But that isn’t the kind of show RWBY is.

Beacon is destroyed, partly at the hands of Adam – the man who abused Blake; groomed her; took away the White Fang from her father, corrupting it and what it stood for. He reaffirms everything he had made Blake believe and severed Yang’s arm – her huntress partner – as payback for Blake leaving him.

In this broken state, Blake does the only thing she is capable of doing in. She runs.

And Sun follows.

Sun is the only one who could have helped Blake when she is was in this mental state. He follows her because he loves and cares for her, and he can see past Adam’s abuse to who Blake really is when she is incapable of doing so. Like I said, the perfect foil. While bless him, Sun only has one braincell and no impulse control, every single action he does is out of love for Blake.

He helps balance out Blake’s worse tendencies, and that support allows her to learn to accept herself and find what she had once lost.

And Blake recognises this. Even if in the moment she gets annoyed by him, their goodbye in V6 shows that Blake is thankful for all Sun has done and reciprocate his feelings.

But relationships are a partnership, and both Sun and Blake are treading very different paths. You can be in love and also realise when a relationship has run its course.

To quote a rather dumb show – “It wasn’t pointless. It’s just over.”

This storyline is over. Sun wants to find his own identity as the leader of SSSN and Blake doesn’t need him by her side to help her shake free of Adam’s abuse. The characters have evolved past their need for one another. Their bond is unbreakable even if their chance at romance fades away.

Sun is an instrumental part to Blake’s character arc that doesn’t get erased by the ending of their relationship. It is the unconditional love that Sun has for Blake that allows her to find it within herself to love herself and to heal.

So, now we move onto Yang.

Yang and Blake are partners. We are shown constantly throughout the show that partnerships between hunters and huntresses are just as important – if not even more so – as teams. They are forced to forge a bond and place their lives in one another’s hands time and time again.

Adam frays the bonds of this partnership by reigniting all of Blake’s trauma and self-hatred, followed by him taking away Yang’s arm and with it her confidence. Instead of having one another to lean on, Blake flees in fear and Yang is left trying to figure out who she is and what to do next that the easy path is gone.

When they are reunited at the end of V5 / beginning of V6, they are settling themselves into their new mental states post V4/V5 character arcs. They are forced to rebuild their partnership from the ground up, only this time its different. This time they are choosing this partnership and one another. There is no Ospin or Beacon Academy; they had a chance to take different roads but they choose to continue forward together. This is a much more solid base for a relationship to form, and because of their shared trauma and history, they have a lot deeper insight into one another’s strengths and weaknesses.

The formation of their new partnership cumulates perfectly with their fight against Adam, where they both face the source of their trauma and defeat it together.

From there we move onto V7. Now that the bond is fully reforged, we get to see the softer, dorkier moments like we did with Blacksun in V1-V3. The romance is blossoming to the surface and it is now noticeable for the other characters to see.

Then in V8, when the group becomes divided by ideals, Blake and Yang understand each other well enough to not take the other’s stance in the divide personally and it does not impact their love for one another – in stark contrast to Renora when it almost drives the two apart.

And now we have reached V9, where all the pieces are now in place. A strong partnership, complete understanding and acceptance of each other and love that can withstand.

In media – particularly anime style narratives – there is always the expectation that a character can only fall in love once. The inclusion of multiple love interests is often only there to add drama, backstory or angst.

But that is not the case here. Both Blacksun and Bumbleby are healthy, canon, romantic relationships. All that happened was – as the narrative developed and Blake went through her character arcs, she outgrew her relationship with Sun and grew into her relationship with Yang.

Beacon arc Blacksun is vastly different from the Haven Arc Blacksun – the same way the Beacon Arc Bumbleby is vastly different from the Atlas Arc Bumbleby.

I believe that Bumbleby wouldn’t nearly be as important a sapphic ship if it hadn’t been given the chance for the girls to evolve into the people they are now. It is happy, healthy – its earned.

And it being earned wasn’t at the erasure of Blacksun, but at the evolution of the characters.

This isn't as detailed or organized as I'd like to get with it because I want to pull very specific lines from the different arcs they're involved in but I'm going to summarize as best as I can!

First off I need to emphasize that I think as "unfair" as what happens to SQX is, I think it needed to happen. I am putting "unfair" in air quotes because I'm also a HX defender and as terrifying and life-altering as Black Water arc is for them, I also do not think SQX would lament how "unfair" any of it was after the proverbial dust has settled (that's a discussion for another time though because I have A Lot Of Thoughts about swd's beheading + the direct aftermath + SQX not wanting to ascend again + immediately seeking to descend and not be sought out again after willingly giving up their powers).

SQX loves SWD, MY/HX, and XL. I refuse to put past tense there too okay she's full of love for better or worse. Usually for worse. I digress. She loves them, but she doesn't know them. She thinks she does. She's had no reason to believe she didn't, and that she was running out of time to know them all. That's why things had to happen the way they did. That's the price of her ignorance. It's not a faultless thing even if it was never meant to be malicious. And my GOD, she's lived her whole life in layers and layers of ignorance, all of it heaped onto her. She can go her whole life loving with all her heart but she has to learn how to actually know others, too. Let me try to break down what I mean through the three specific characters I mentioned. I am going to try to keep this short-ish because I will elaborate more when I've got the braincells and quotes to go for it but!! Here we go.

Also before I get into it, I don't mean to say that she didn't know any of them at all. She knew them all in exactly the ways they wanted to be known, in my opinion; not all of it convenient or surface level either! And she's a fair more insightful about all three of them than one might notice on a first reading. But she's still missed key facets of each one-- if I may be a bit heavy-handed, she's blinded by the sun and stumbling through the shadows, thinking that because she can't see those shadows they're not there. And that's not how people work. So!

Xie Lian -- while it is very indicative of the type of loyal, rational (when necessary), ride-or-die, and kindhearted person SQX is when they defend him against PM and then against the Heavenly Court, it goes to show just how easily blinded they are. Don't get me wrong, it also says a lot about their ability to think for themself (that's another bone I have to pick with popular fanon interpretation of them LOL) and not bend to social convention/pressure. But they're also letting one interaction inform them against centuries of history. Granted, we aren't ever told how much SQX knows about XL before coming across him at Banyue Pass. However, considering the amount of officials that play nice with SQX, I can't imagine they wouldn't have heard all matter of gossip-- truth mixed with tales and the like. And then there's the whole "he had remembered the flower but forgotten about the sword" line: SQX knows XL as a gentle, level-minded, experienced person. They haven't yet contended with his personal history. This trait of theirs is a double-edged sword. I can't imagine they wouldn't have reflected on this after being left in the Heavenly Capital. They would've never meant any harm by not digging into XL's past, but how ashamed they must feel of trying to be a good, reliable friend while remaining ignorant of all his past troubles.

Shi Wudu - that's her brother! She LOVES her brother! He's given her the world, he's kept her safe, he was the only person she had for so long-- the only person who didn't try to take advantage of her pain and ignorance and just wanted what was best for her. He'd never lie to her, he'd never hurt her, he'd never belittle her, he'd never give her reason to fear him. Not in any way that's anything more than a temporary sibling tiff. Except he did. Time and time again, he did. And I'm not saying this to disparage SWD because especially after a second reading of BW arc, I know SWD loved them too, and he is a fascinating character. We need characters like him alright, just as much as we also need SQXs and HXs and XLs and HCs and so forth. There's so much that needs to be taken into account when examining SWD's behavior towards SQX and how frightened SQX is of her own brother even before discovering the truth-- and I'd love to get into it but maybe not here because I'm already rambling soooo much LSDKFJSDF. Back to the point. SWD loved her. But at what point does love become a cage? At what point does it become hands around your throat? SQX has no idea what all was sacrificed for her. She's not allowed to know. Yes there's the iconic "the one he feared most had been beside him all along" about Ming Yi but HAVE WE CONSIDERED HOW MUCH IT APPLIES TO SWD TOO. HAVE WE!!!! Because I am Considering and I am Dry-heaving at how on the nose it is for SWD too. I already talked a little bit about it (here) but in his efforts to secure a place in the heavens for himself and her, SWD became the exact thing SQX hated and feared the most. SWD is a mirror to the Reverend, at least in actions. Gobbling up lives without a second thought, using fear as a means of control, laughing in the face of another's undeserved and unearned misery, "we've lived good lives"-- EVERYTHING SQX fears is her brother. Her brother, who she loves so much but didn't know nearly well enough.

I'm planning on doing a whole Shi sibling meta but I need to read through a few more passages with SWD first because while my brain is not particularly big I also refuse to misinterpret his character on purpose just because I sometimes want to give him a swift kick to the ass. SWD my beloathed-loved. Idk. Bestworst shitass brother. Still meditating upon that one though because they are both unreliable narrators with each other and XL is an unreliable narrator too so I have much to think about.

He Xuan - [gripping your shoulders and looking into your eyes] Help Me God I Am About To Explode. Where Do I Begin. I'm not gonna lie the first time I heard this part:

I was a kid until I fixed it Tore into a love affair Between me and what wasn't there Oh, I was kissing you Just to feel the air

my brain was like 'wow S.arah K.insley that's so SQX reflecting on her time with MY/HX you're so right'. Which is what led me to thinking even more about all SQX's other relationships too. I know fandom has a lot of contention in how to read into their relationship pre-BW arc and post-BW arc. Frankly I am here to cry as hard as I can and as long as I can so based on my second reading of BW arc + the way SQX acts with both MY/HX and comparing it to how she is with everyone else, I think her feelings with MY/HX are deeper than they're often given credit for. SQX is "friends with everyone", sure. But to HER, MY is her first true friend. Her most beloved, most trusted, most treasured friend. And she never really knew him. Oh, we can point the finger at him and say "well, he was pretending to be someone he wasn't, she wouldn't have found anything out either way". To that I say yes-- and I'm sure SQX did try to poke around for more, but she's so carefree and trusting, it seems logical to me that she would've taken his prickliness and closed-off nature as "just how he is".

All we have about her social life before ascending is pure speculation. I know I'm not presenting good evidence for my reasoning at the moment (I really want to cook up a post about the type of sheltered life SQX lived because all that spoiling and opulence came in after being brought into the middle court-- like yes SWD spoiled them by always being the one to take care of the difficult things, but again! Another topic for later! I have much to say about SQX's learned helplessness there). SQX didn't have anyone but her ge. I'm sure she had "lots of friends" in the Middle Court too. But she didn't have a capital-f-Friend. And then-- she has MY! Someone who's not trying to get to her brother through her (LOLLLLLLLL), someone who doesn't disappear during times of storm, someone who doesn't disguise their true nature or intentions for the sake of personal gain (LOL x2). Well I'm laughing there but again- HX defender. I digress, again. SQX isn't latching onto MY out of pure convenience. If SQX wanted to befriend someone who goes along with all her whims, never gives her a hard time, and plays coy for her amusement, she has thousands to choose from. Hell her brother could've picked for her. But she wants MY as her best friend and closest confidant. It would've been so easy for her to dump him on his ass and chase after best friend status with XL if all her clinging to MY was purely informed by self-interest and the desire to feel good about herself all the time. They themself even say that XL has earned "second best friend" status during the beginning of BW arc, all while XL is objectively the only person giving her tangible comfort. She doesn't just want a best friend, she wants her best friend Ming-xiong. My god! He's the first they cry out for at what's arguably their lowest: right after willingly giving up their power, when it turns out their brother is the type of person they've always feared the most, when it's clear they cannot save anyone, they cannot even save themself.

And oh, how she wanted to be the same for him! She risked HC's wrath (or at least she thought she was, which is also so funny in greater context) to "rescue" him. She would've done anything for him. Except she couldn't. She didn't know him. She failed him so terribly, so miserably, so shamefully. Him and everyone else who loved him and actually knew him, the ones who died so she could have a life she hadn't earned. We both know how agonizing those moments in the Nether Water Manor-- but what about the aftermath? What about when it was just them stumbling around, after the fear and shock had worn off, with nothing but their own audacious words echoing around in their head? "This whole thing has nothing to do with Ming-xiong, but he had to suffer like this". THEY DIDN'T KNOW THE HALF OF IT! And they said it with such grief then-- well, what about now? How much worse had they made his suffering? Had he felt nothing but revulsion that whole time? Had she made his loneliness, his suffering, his weariness worse? All those times she told him not to worry, all those times spent fussing over him, (trying to) dote on him, looping her arm through his and pulling him this way and that. Did it mean anything at all? He was her best friend, he was who she wanted at her side, but who was she to him? Was he ever really there?

But SQX is too empathetic to only think about herself when it comes to such pains. Once the wallowing wore off, how often did she spend wondering about him? Knowing that of anyone in the heavens and on earth, he was the one deserving of the good life, he was the one deserving of someone who loved him for who he was. What a fool she was for thinking she was that someone! She couldn't even call the right name. She did indeed cause the death of her closest family. She did indeed cause the death of her best friend. And what can she do? What can she say? Sorry doesn't bring anyone back; sorry doesn't make everything better; sorry doesn't make up for being unworthy of the time she squandered at his side, all because she didn't know. Ignore, for a moment, the fear and trauma now casting impenetrable shadows over the image of "her best friend", and consider: by any grace yet again unearned, could she ever accept an offering of forgiveness for such grievances?

I know SQX is doing "fine" as a mortal, she has friends that don't just want something out of them, and I know she's taking better care to practice knowing along with loving. But it just kills me how all her life she has had "everything" but nothing at the same time. None of it was hers. She did nothing to earn it, no matter how much she as a person deserved it. What's deserved without earned, after all?

a character study thing, but it contains spoilers for the special!

what's really making me insane is the juxtaposition of macaque in season 4 / the s4special and his previous appearances in the show, where he was batshit crazy.

like. okay. as far as we know, THIS is the youngest we've seen macaque, right? he's much different than the first introduction we had to him. attentive, soft spoken, introverted for sure (he's all by himself here, until wukong finds him - which makes me think he has the tendency to run off and hide from others as it's reference multiple times)

wukong of course, has an infectious like energy and brings out the playfulness in macaque. he gets him to loosen up and helps him not worry so much, to just relax and enjoy himself, and their life. macaque is always a little uptight, because he has such incredible hearing. he's the one with the braincell the majority of the time. wukong is the impulsive troublemaker, but macaque is always there to bail him out and get him out of that trouble.

wukong is usually the instigator of their shenanigans, as he mentioned in this scene 'correction: WE'RE really going through with this, like always!'

and macaque, he tried expressing his uncertainty about challenging the jade emperor to wukong, who either wasn't listening or likely waved it off because the others were hyping him up so much.

he quieted those concerned when wukong reassured him that they would return home and live out the rest of their days in peace together.

when peng gave him shit for not commenting on sun wukong's apparent 'betrayal' and he tried to tell them to consider other options, he was silenced immediately. and now, with the reveal of what was likely the catalyst for his falling out with swk revealed, the argument they had under the mountain, it's clear that NOBODY ever took him seriously, nor appreciated him and what he did. if anything, he became a scapegoat. for daring to speak up and protest against his peers.

macaque is wise, he's wiser than what people give him credit for. he HAS to be, he's the one with omnipresent hearing! he's called the six-eared macaque for a reason! his ability to even hear into the future grant him enough insight to know when shit isn't a good idea, to know when things are going BAD and he needs to do something. he's a planner, and he KNOWS this. he's incredibly observant, able to recognize the monkey king's flaws and fears even when wukong himself cannot. and even despite that, he never gave swk shit for his impulses until wukong decided it was MACAQUE'S fault swk was trapped under the mountain. he was fed up with taking all this bullshit from the people he cared about. from people who were suppose to care about him.

and when sun wukong was finally freed, what happened? macaque, probably was still bitter, but clearly he still cared. he probably still had hope, maybe wukong would have come to his senses and they could finally live out their dream together. but... no. wukong had a new destiny to follow. a destiny that didn't involve macaque like he promised.

he was abandoned. and it's very clear as the show has expressed multiple times that this was GUTTING for macaque. he was alone, and had no remaining support system left. what happens when someone is left by themself with no one to help them through such heartbreak? they become extremely vulnerable and can spiral into this pain and darkness, but even worse than that, they can miss the warning signs for when something evil takes advantage of them. macaque eludes to this in shadowplay, when he gives MK shit for not noticing his friends were missing and in trouble.

i'm still following the theory that macaque was possessed/influenced by the lady bone demon during jttw. she saw his crumbling friendship with swk, and realized that she could use it to her advantage. it would explain why macaque talks like something really bad happened to him that wasn't just being left behind by swk, but something else that ultimately lead to him being killed, forcing him into a debt to LBD he never wanted part of. it's already shown that LBD's influence pulls out the darkest thoughts from people to the forefront, and macaque? he was not in any stable state of mind! not like before, where he wasn't letting his anger and pain and bitterness cloud his judgement. before he had his heart broken. he was suffering, and she took advantage of this.

and that's where we get this motherfucker. outcast by his sworn brothers, turned on by his best friend and later suffered the ultimate betrayal through death, taken advantage of by evil demons, now full of vengeful anger and hatred for the monkey king and everyone who worships the guy. after everything he did for those he loved, he got left in the dust. never championed for his goodness and light he once had, just forgotten.

macaque went from a soft, quiet, rational soul to a chaotic madness ridden bastard, reflecting sun wukong's worst qualities as he accepted by this point, he really was just the monkey king's shadow.

4 Braincells but I only think about the parallels more.

Kazan and Hikari are going in opposite directions in mindsets while still being the same. They’re both unfettered in their beliefs and both are striving for the same goal but in wildly different directions on where to go for it. And as they travel around Solistia that journey towards that goal changes and they are still unfettered in their goal but they change their journey.

We have both of them working towards peace. And they both are aware of each other’s shared goal. Only one of them knows the other’s journey.

Kazan has the goal of peace in mind and the journey to get there involves complete and utter oblivion. An absence of everything means absolute peace. That planned journey changed though as he continued on the journey with everyone. He still very much sees the world through a pessimistic lens and is quick to see the worst in others but he also is aware of the small things in life that kind of make it somewhat more bearable.

One dance and one conversation between generals isn’t going to fix up Sai’s problems. It’s not that simple. But it does go and lighten the lord of every day life. It makes it slightly more bearable to wake up and go through the motions.

A lot of things aren’t fixed instantaneously but it will be fixed with time. And Kazan found that time tends to go faster when you have people who actually are with you and are a stable part of your life. Nothing is going to be perfect but it’s easier to see that there is still other things left in the world that are good.

Night is said to be oblivion and to be the finality but it seems that people forget that the moon and stars still provide Light. The Dawn is too bright for him now but at least he finds comfort in the gentle glow of the stars and moon.

Hikari also has the goal of peace in mind and the journey to get there involves fighting only as a necessity before establishing peace. The thing is that he also is given the added goal that he has to be a role model to others when he was young. His mother went and told him that he has to be the Light for others before she died and considering that those two things happened very close to each other including Jin Mei’s death and the emergence of the curse.

That all goes and culminates into him putting himself up as someone who needs to be a good example no matter what. It’s as a way to be a good person and to tell himself he is good and any imperfections would mean everything will fall apart.

For a while that mindset was manageable and I say that because Hikari does have to be the role model for a lot of people, mainly the soldiers of Ku and its citizens due to the constant wars that emerged. It becomes a problem when he doesn’t have to do that anymore. Other people have their own goals in mind and aren’t in the same goal as him and he is fully supportive of that. It does however mean that his own image of being perfect start to show “flaws” he perceives and the Curse starts coming out more.

This then changes his journey to the goal from him leading others to peace to him thinking “Oh. I’m not a good person. I have all these issues that makes me clearly a bad person. I instead have to be an example others follow so that they may reach for peace and then have them take the stand while I go and fight the Shadows and eventually quietly rot in them where I belong.”

The sun will die eventually. And when it does, it will quietly dim and expand before shining bright and exploding into a supernova. But most stars just die out quietly with no fanfare. That’s probably what will happen with Hikari.

Hikari’s chapter 3 goes and establishes the two’s paths in two opposite directions with them also being incredibly emotionally vulnerable during the whole experience.

Kazan comes out of it very much aware that he fucked up and that he kind of has to deal with that for a while. He had a bad night and made bad decisions and Hikari says it isn’t his fault but that doesn’t change the fact that he made incredibly bad decisions that uprooted all of their lives into a frenzy and Civil War. And he can’t run away from that realization, because he told his friends and they know, and life doesn’t allow you to run from everything. He can go back to nihilistic depression again to avoid the pain of disappointments he knows will happen but time is still going to pass and events will still happen. So, might as well just go through life at least taking in the small moments. Maybe try to rediscover what he took for granted because as it turns out. There’s a lot. And he kind of wants to walk towards the future with his friends.

Hikari comes out of it with the mindset that the whole uprising was somehow his fault. He finds out that Kazan started it and gave the plans to Mugen due to unresolved trauma and loathing towards Ku’s policies and constant wars and rationalizes it that he is at fault because he should have seen Kazan’s problems earlier. It doesn’t matter that Kazan purposefully hid it well or that Kazan intentionally made sure that none of them knows about his issues with Ku, in Hikari’s eyes it’s still his own fault. This is proof that he is not a good person and that he is not a good leader. What kind of leader doesn’t notice their friend suffering? He’s terrible. He allowed this to happen and now that he is thinking about it, his whole existence brought suffering onto others. If it weren’t for him, Kura and Jin Mei would be alive and he wouldn’t be hurting his friends with this Curse.

We have Kazan go into quiet healing and a gradual reemergence of hope for the world. The journey changing from complete oblivion to quiet comfort to others as they all work towards peace, because things take time and time is the biggest killer of anything.

On the other side, we have Hikari go into a self-destructive mindset where he starts shouldering so much blame and responsibility to atone for things he has no control over. The journey changing from leading his people after the fighting is done to just…intending to not make it to the end of the journey. To be the example that everyone looks up to and hope that no one looks and realizes he is a fraud and give up on peace.

Kazan accidentally goes into Hikari’s optimistic mind sets with the trio “Knight in Sour Armor” slapped on him underlined.

Hikari accidentally goes into Kazan’s more pessimism mindset but that pessimism is turned into himself and his actions rather onto others.

Both of them remain the same but exchange mindsets while still reacting in the way they always reacted whenever something changes.

With Kazan lashing out onto the world while Hikari turning to self-reflection.

kazan and hikari both wanting to bring peace, but just having drastically different ideas and methods towards doing it… both of them slowly starting to believe in the other’s mindset… all the stuff about hikari trying so so hard to be a perfect role model for everyone, and his whole perspective of himself crashing down the moment he becomes aware of his flaws… and kazan slowly but surely starting to appreciate the little things more… because sure, the world isn’t all perfect, but enjoying the small happiness you get with being around others you care about helps give him the will go wake up and keep going… whoa.

I wasn’t expecting this. genuinely amazing character analysis from something we’re calling the ‘4 braincells au’ which started off with us both just wanting an au where Hikari gets into shenanigans with his friends.

Hello Monkie kid fandom i present unto thee the AU

Cold Island AU is set about 3-5 years after season 3 ends! After LBD dies she gives some of her magic to MK, who upon learning this sort of freaks out, and with a lack of braincells and impulsitivy digs Monkey King’s staff into the earth and resolves to come back when he figures out why this happened and how to get the magic out of him. He leaves a note though, so points to trying.

Meanwhile, LBD’s host picks up the staff a couple of years later and resolves to find MK and try to bring him back. Just in time for some antagonistic force to peek its head over and cause some mayhem (cough cough the mayor trying to get LBD’s power back in order to finish her job cough)

Everything else but condensed into bulletpoints:

- MK is a bit more serious in this au, at least while fighting. He picked up more hand-to-hand combat and uses a Chain Whip now since he had to leave the staff behind. He also has like a bunch of knives hidden on his person. Not having the support of his friends made him more prepared in a way.

- he also still wanted to help people even if he couldn’t be The Monkey Kid, so he often just. Gets himself involved in situations. He still fights demons and stuff but he will also just help if you look like you’re having trouble crossing the street.

- Do not even worry he is still a big goofball though. A goofball with issues.

- And also maybe a tiny bit scared of LBD’s power and what it means about him and his relationships, and how everybody would react to it (cough cough “you should’ve stayed buried” cough) because he is a biased pov

- which is one of the reasons he wants to get rid of it so bad and avoids facing his friends. He’s technically a remnant of the most recent conflict that nobody got unscathed out of.

- He and LBD’s host have a sibling reletionship! They’re not quite mentor and mentee like Sun Wukong and MK were but they’re still pretty close and got along really quickly

- LBD’s host also has some of LBD’s powers, although they’re more accidental than MK’s and are a consequence of the possession

- in fact throughout the events of the story LBD’s host and MK kind of swap powers, since LBD’s host starts unlocking Monkey King powers from the staff (that she picked up) and MK starts using LBD’s more accidentally

Jeez that’s a lot of words! This AU still isn’t done and is still getting hashed out, so sorry if any of this is confusing or has some very obvious holes and leaps in logic. Doesn’t help that I got excited and made it before I even finished the series 😭 either way a very needed idea dump

(I still think the Aurora subplot would be great for a movie after the series or something, but yeah I suppose they wanted to tell everything in the 25 episodes, but in the end I got what I wanted which is the anime being about tiger and bunny. Field Trip To Greece

My own take on the Field Trip salt stories that usually are crossovers with Batman and have Damienette. But this is my version with them going to Greece and involves my OCs Lyon and Vallia Garden.

“Mari, Mari, MARI,” Adrien basically yelled into his friend’s ear.

Marinette woke up with a jolt in her bus seat.

“What,” she groaned, never being much of a morning person.

“We’re almost at the sanctuary, so I figured to wake you up,” Adrien smiled at his friend.

“Thanks and curse how fast this bus is,” Marinette said.

“And curse Hawkmoth for late night akumas,” Adrien suggested.

“That to,” Marinette agreed. “Even in Greece, he still finds a way to annoy us in Paris.”

“Well, you brought the horse miraculous for a reason,” Adrien said.

“How are you not tired,” Marinette questioned him.

“I’ve always been a morning person,” Adrien shrugged. “Blame my father for a lot of early morning photoshoots.”

“I’d slap your father if it did not mean risking my future as a fashion designer in the process,” Marinette says.

After revealing themselves to each other after Miracle Queen, the two had developed a more brother-sister relationship. They both thought that it would be better for them to know each other after having all their allies exposed to Hawkmoth and Mayura. They joked around, teased each other, and also always had each others backs.

Having each other’s backs certainly helped them when Lila’s lies got worse. After Chloe had willingly helped Hawkmoth, she had been sent to a private reformatory school in Sweden. Lila took the opportunity to tell more of her lies, saying that she had been telling her “best friend” Ladybug to keep the Bee miraculous away from Chloe for months. And just like everything else Lila ever said, their class ate it up like it was their last meal.

Adrien had joined Marinette almost immediately after he made his “deal with the devil” in order to get her back into school. He threw himself off the “high road” the moment that Marinette told him that Lila threatened her. But even with him backing up Marinette every time she caught inconsistencies in Lila’s tales, there were still few that actually believed them. Some even went as far as scolding Marinette for her “brainwashing Adrien” into thinking that Lila was a liar.

Kim, Juleka, and Nathaniel were the only ones that stayed loyal to their friends. Especially since Marinette had done so much for them in the past. Like curing Juleka of her photo curse, helping Nathaniel get together with Marc, and Kim had been her friend since they were in diapers. With their group was also Kagami, Luka, Marc, Aurore, and Mireille. The rest of Bustier’s class was pretty much made up of Lila’s attack dogs.

What annoyed Adrien the most was how his so-called best friend. Nino may be siding with his girlfriend, Alya being Lila’s biggest supporter/attack dog, but that also meant he was part of the problem. He certainly never helped Adrien when Lila would constantly hold onto his arm no matter how many times he told her to let go. It was driving Adrien crazy and he was very close to taking Plagg up on his offer to Cataclysm the liar.

“I bet the garden is going to be beautiful,” Juleka says, her seat next to the two heroes.

She was sitting next to Nathaniel while Kim was in the seat in front of Adrien and Marinette. They were all in the seats at the back of the bus.

“I heard that the Garden Family Sanctuary is ranked as an unofficial wonder of the world,” Nathaniel said.

“Anyone else find it odd that a nature sanctuary is run by a family with Garden as their last name,” Kim asked.

“I think this is one of those ‘don’t think about it too much’ times,” Marinette shrugged.

“I haven’t been here in years,” Adrien was glad to be back.

“You’ve been here before,” Juleka asked.

“There was a charity fashion show here about a year before my mother disappeared,” Adrien explained. “I was here with my parents for it.”

“Did you meet any of the animals here,” Kim looked excited. “I heard that they let any animals here roam free even when they have events or tours here.”

“The animals do roam around the sanctuary as they wish,” Adrien says. “But the Garden family and all their employees work hard to tame all their animals privately to make sure that even the predators do not harm anyone. They spend months to years taming them before releasing them into the main part of the sanctuary.”

“It really sounds like an amazing place,” Marinette said.

“I can’t wait to draw some of the animals,” Nathaniel already had out his sketchpad. “Marc requested I draw him the most amazing animal that I see. No pressure. Haha.”

Juleka patted his shoulder, but her obviously hiding her laughter made her attempt to comfort him fail. 

But, as usual, their good moods had to be ruined by the Italian that never seemed to go five minutes without hearing the sound of her own voice. And, also as usual, she was spouting her nonsense. They were very close to throwing her out the back of the bus if she did not stop talking.

“Of course I know the Garden family,” Lila brags, lying through her teeth. “They are basically family to me.”

“Here we go again,” the five friends groaned.

“The mother and her two daughters mostly handle the plants,” Lila continues. “The father and their son handle the animals. It’s only natural since they are the only ones that can stomach having to put down the more dangerous animals.”

“Tell us more, Lila,” Alya was recording the entire time.

Adrien growled. “There has never been a case of an animal being put down at the sanctuary. The closest that comes to that is when an animal gets sick and there is nothing they can do to help it.”

“They have to put it out of its misery, don’t they,” Marinette asked.

Adrien nodded. “The youngest two Gardens speak fluent French, so I was able to spend some time with kids my own age during the fashion show. They told me that while it breaks their hearts, it is better than letting the animal suffer.”

“I can see where they come from for that,” Juleka says. “They love, take care of, and train all the animals. So it’s only natural that they form a bond with them.”

“I know I am not the brightest person in class, but how can they believe such crap,” Kim shook his head. “Whenever anyone even slightly mentions someone famous, she instantly says she is either best friends with them or somehow related to them. It’s impossible.”

“Tell that to the sheep that follow her around like she’s god’s gift to the world,” Marinette rolled her eyes.

“Makes you wonder if we really are the only ones in class with braincells,” Nathaniel, of all people, said.

The bus doors opened as it came to a full stop at the sanctuary. Bustier was the first out and the class followed her. They all first went into the sanctuary. And even from what little they could see from where they were, it already was one of the most beautiful places any of them have ever seen.

Trees, flowers, and even fruit and vegetable plants were growing as far as their eyes could see. The entire sanctuary also seemed to be covered by a glass dome, making an environment similar to a greenhouse. It made sense since there were probably plants in certain areas that needed to be grown in certain temperatures.

But today the dome’s windows were open, letting in the natural light of the sun, even if it looked like squares on the ground because of the dome’s window linings.

As Bustier lead them to a stop, two teen their age approached the group. Adrien recognized his two penpals. The ones he met in Greece when he was there for the fashion show. Lyon and Vallia Garden.

Vallia was quite beautiful and had a grace and elegance to her style. She had long blond hair braided with roses and butterflies and had pink streaks. Her eyes were a stunning silver that you could see, if you were close enough, had specks of blue in them. Her style was a red, pink, and purple dawn colored dress with gold flats. On her wrists were diamond rose cuff bracelets, a butterfly on the one on her right wrist.

Lyon gave off a very icy exterior that also screamed honor and loyalty that only a knight would have. A tall boy with hair that was black with streaks of white and blue in it, coming to the length of Adrien's. His eyes were the opposite of the girl's, blue with silver specks. His outfit of choice was a sky blue t-shirt under a white jean vest, matching the blue pants with white boots. On his hands were white fingerless gloves. Around his neck was a sword and shield pendant as well as a white cloak only going down to his knees.

They all also saw that the two did have crystal medallions on their foreheads. Vallia’s was a rose quartz butterfly and Lyon’s was a sapphire wolf.

“Your pen pals are hot, Adrien,” Marinette smirked as she saw her honorary brother staring at Lyon.

“Shut up,” Adrien grumbled, making Marinette giggle.

Bustier turns to the class. “These two are going to be our guides through the sanctuary. Please show them the proper amount of respect since they are the ones that work here.”

Lyon and Vallia gave the teacher the side-eye. While they technically did work there, their family owned the sanctuary and it was like Bustier had completely forgot about that and thought that they were just employees of the sanctuary.

“Shouldn’t we be guided by adults,” Mylene asked, trying not to sound offensive to the two teens.

“We’re your tour guides because we are the only ones here fluent in French,” Lyon told the class, his French flawless.

Adrien hid that he was chuckling behind his hand. He knew the twins were fluent, but the looks on his classmate’s faces when Lyon spoke in French was just so funny.

“Before we begin, let us introduce ourselves,” Vallia said, also switching to French. “My name is Vallia and this is my twin brother, Lyon.”

“Please also take note of a few rules of the sanctuary,” Lyon says. “While the animals here have been tamed, do not touch or interact with them without permission. Certain movements or actions could cause them to badly react. They are all also on specific diets, so do not feed them unless we give you food to give them.”

“The plants should also all remain untouched,” Vallia added. “There are certain plants here that are not native to the area and survive here only because we created the right environments for them. Especially the ghost orchid. There are barely even 2000 ghost orchid plants left in the world and they need to remain here so that they do not go extinct.”

Most of the class nodded, understanding the rules. Lila hid how annoyed she was at not being able to take whatever beautiful plant she wants or touch any cute animal that she sees.

The tour than began, the class following the twins deeper into the sanctuary. Already they were starting to see a ton of the animals that lived there. There were some animals of Greek origins. Such as brown bears, red deer, lynxes, rock lizards, weasels, and wild boar. There were also more international animals. Like white-tailed deer from North America, jaguars from South America, pandas from China, African panthers and lions, Indian tigers, horses from Canada, even komodo dragons from Indonesia. And that was just the beginning.

“The Garden Family Sanctuary was founded almost a hundred years ago by siblings Apollo and Persephone Garden,” Lyon says. “Having been named after the god of the healing and the goddess of flowers, they had always loved helping nature and animals.”

“They started out with an animal shelter that took in any and all animals,” Vallia continued for her brother. “They had a very clear rule about being a no-kill shelter. The more popular they became, the more room they needed. And since they already came from a rich family, they bought more land. And over the years, it grew into the sanctuary you see today.”

“With the amount of animals and plants coming, there has been chat about buying land on another island to expand the sanctuary,” Lyon said. “Which means more area to protect from smugglers and poachers.”

“Your French is very good,” Marinette compliments them.

“Thank you, we’ve had years of practice,” Vallia says.

“It helped when we hosted a few French fashion designers here a few years ago for a charity fashion show,” Lyon said.

Adrien caught the smirk that Lyon sent his way. It made the blond blush.

The group continued walking through the sanctuary. A few of the animals curiously looked at the group, but chose not to get near them. There were a few did cuddle up to the twins, who happily petted them before sending them away with a treat in their mouth.

But even as the twins tried to talk about the sanctuary, Lila was still telling her lies as the classmates not under her spell surrounded her. They listened to her more than they did their actual tour guides.

“Yeah, poachers and smugglers try to get in all the time,” she was saying. “The first time I was here, I saw one and tried to tell the employees and they didn’t believe me. They certainly did after I single-handedly stopped him from taking a rare blue tiger.”

“That is so cool, Lila,” Rose unknowingly encouraged more lying. 

“They should make you a partner here if you caught a poacher that they did not even know was there,” Alya said.

“They wanted to, but my mother said I was too young to be part of a business,” Lila says.

Adrien saw the twins look at each other as they hear what is being said. He knew that while the two were mostly quiet around those they do not know, other than when they gave tours, they would definitely not take liars sitting down. They were extremely protective of their family, which was why Lyon practiced archery while Vallia is an expert with the bo-staff.

“The Garden family would never offer someone outside of the family a part of the sanctuary,” Lyon stated, making the class look at him.

“We would appreciate you not tell such tall tales about such a charitable family,” Vallia crossed her arms. “They are well-respected by all of Greece and do not deserve to have such lies told about them.”

The class looked very insulted at the accusation of Lila being a liar, which happened whenever anyone said that. It happened more than you think since Bustier’s class was the only one in the entire school that actually believed her. Everyone else knew that Lila was nothing but a liar.

“Something tells me that things are about to get interesting,” Juleka whispered to the rest of their group.

“You’re the one that knows them, Adrien,” Marinette says. “What do you think they’ll do?”

“I’ve been in contact with them for years,” Adrien said. “And from all I know about them, it’s a slight miracle that Lyon hasn’t already threatened to shoot her with an arrow.”

“Does he do that often,” Nathaniel raised an eyebrow.

“Only to those that really anger him, really annoy him, or threaten his family,” Adrien said. “But that last part also includes the sanctuary and all of the animals kept here.”

“Guess we should be thankful that he doesn’t have them on him right now,” Kim says. “Even if he could get rid of our liar problem with a single shot.”

“Lyon was actually scouted by the coach of the Greek Olympian archery team,” Adrien tells them. “But Lyon doesn’t like competition. He says that they are nothing but barbaric events meant to to do nothing but enlarge egos and decrease braincells.”

“Can are class even lose what they don’t have,” Marinette smirked.

All of them laughed at her joke. When Marinette got sassy and sarcastic, it was hilarious. She could sass-talk like nobody’s business.

“Haw dare you,” Lila put a hand over her heart and then started up the crocodile tears again. “How could you be so mean to me?”

That was when her sheep glared at the twins.

“Lila is not a liar,” Alya was her main supporter as usual. “You’re nothing but simple employees. I bet you do not even know the Garden family. Lila, on the other hand, is basically an honorary member of their family.”

Both twins crossed their arms this time, staring down the class.

“Let us fully introduce ourselves,” Lyon narrowed his eyes at them. “My name is Lyon Garden and this is my twin sister, Vallia Garden. Our family owns this sanctuary and neither of us nor the rest of their family have ever met this girl.”

Adrien was seriously smirking at this point. He had seen this coming and was very glad that it had finally was. Especially since Lila did not even get the number of family members right. There were two Garden parents, but the children were another story. Lyon and Vallia were the youngest of the family, but Vallia was the only girl and they had two older brothers.

“You’re probably just lying to make Lila look bad because you’re jealous,” Alix glared at the twins. “She’s connected to the Gardens while you are not.”

“Don’t believe us, we don’t care, but we do have a friend in your class that knows who we are,” Vallia giggled. “Isn’t that right, Adrien?”

The sheep looked at the model. He only smirked as he joined Lyon and Vallia’s side.

“You two certainly know how to make an impression,” Adrien tells them, chuckling.

“If we really wanted to make an impression, I would have started at my favorite wolf den,” Lyon snickered. “But I would have been too tempted to order my wolves to eat them.”

Adrien laughed at the looks of horror on his classmates’ faces.

“If you guys haven’t figured it out, it was my family that the twins were talking about before,” Adrien says. “We were the ones that came here for the charity fashion show. It was great to meet the two youngest members of the Garden family.”

“So these are the sheep that follow that liar like lost puppies,” Vallia looked at Adrien. “The liar that doesn’t know how to take ‘no’ for an answer?”

“Got it in one, Vallia,” Adrien says. “And she’s been telling lies about your family since this field trip started. She even said that your family was three girls and two boys.”

The twins rolled their eyes.

“Wow,” Lyon shook his head. “Vallia might wish she had a sister, it’s just us and our two older brothers with our parents.”

Vallia playfully slapped her brother’s shoulder.

While Adrien took his two friends over to the rest of his group to introduce them, the rest of the class finally seemed to get that Lila did indeed lie to them. They turned on her like lions on an antelope and started yelling at her for lying to them.

The twins made mental notes to contact their parents about needing to sue a girl for slander and defamation.

Recommended Sanders Sides creators

Marry Christmas, everyone! And a wonderful December day to all of you who don’t celebrate Christmas, too. Let’s be honest right off the bat, though: I’m only using the date as an excuse to do this list anyways.

So. Throughout the time I’ve spent as a part of this wonderful corner of the sanders sides fandom over here on tumblr, I’ve often found a new creator and wished I’d found them sooner. It kind of makes me wonder who else I might miss. If you do to, here are a few creators I’d love for you to check out. You’ll probably recognize some of the names, if not all, but maybe you’ll find a new favorite creator here?

And to the creators in question, I really love your content. If you’ve made it onto this list, you’ve definitely cause one or two sleepless nights of reading for me, because who needs sleep if I can have this, right? XD Whatever you’ll find written next to your name is the impression you’ve left on me and… Well, just know that you’ve made some days of my life at least a little happier, all of you. And I hope to repay the favor by telling you how much I appreciate you releasing your content into this world… Well, repay the favor at least a little, I suppose.

Let’s begin, then, shall we?

@5am-the-foxing-hour Because this? This is who you go to if you want to read good Janus-content. You are in a mood to read sympathetic Janus? Wanna see the danger noodle just casually interact with other sides? Go to their short stories. I mean, “the cult”? Prime example of how to tell a story with impact in just a few words. 8 paragraphs, but boy did I read that one on repeat. Or “water spray bottle”, this one is fun, short and will make you laugh. An energy drink for the fander heart, so to say.

Then there’s their mafia-au, “there’s more in me than precious metals”. Six are out so far, and I adore every single word of every single part of this. Protective Remus, sassy Janus, angst, comedy relief, destruction, Roman-Remus-sibling-rivalry, braincell Logan, survival instinct Virgil, working together over a common enemy… This fic has it all, believe me. Take your time and read it, because you will read the entire thing in one go once you start. At least I did, and I didn’t even notice.

And their advent writings? Those had me squealing and jumping around in a way I will deny if anyone ever sees it. I don’t even know what else to say, they are fucking fantastic and that’s that.

So, yeah. Go check them out, before I start fangirling about them even more. You know my personal favorites now, so just go there. You won’t regret it.

Next up is @coconut-cluster. Ah, yes, Lexi. Lexi, whose uni-AU started as self indulgent and has become the loceit story on tumblr. We all know her, or at least most of us do, and we all love her too. And while I also drop everything I do at any point of time I possibly can once I realize the uni-au has any form of new addition, there are a lot of other fics created by her that you should check out as well.

Did you, for example, ever want a sappy prinxiety one-shot with the sappiness only being implied, a mutual understanding of “we’re-not-saying-we-care-but-we-both-know-we-do” born from joking reassurances and a not-a-date-nope-only-a-break? While that may seem to be a tall order, that is exactly what “before the sun goes down” is. Plus there’s ice cream. Or maybe you’re more of a logince fan? Do you want a fic where Roman isn’t the prince but serves His Highness? Do you like sincere talks while you’re procrastinating showing your face to the subjects you don’t really want to rule over? In that case, you really should read “Viva la Vida”. Careful, though, this one is so sweet you’ll probably get a toothache… There also is an analogical fic that I’ve enjoyed very much: “Cracks in the Ceiling”. I love it, because it’s just calm. Fears creeping up on you, thrown away by a trusted friend with a few words, just by being there and playing into the metaphors you head created this time around. It’s calm, and there’s not really a climax or anything, but it doesn’t need one. Because it’s just a glance into everyday life. It’s beautiful in its own right, really.

What I’m saying is, Lexi has a lot more wonderful stories to tell than the uni-au. It’s the most popular one, sure, and it’s one of her best works. But you really should check out her other fics as well. Lexi herself once said that she writs fics she’d like to read. I would figure it’s because of this, but her stories are mostly things you don’t really find anywhere else. Dynamics, stories, world building, all of those are aspects you may find somewhere else. But Lexi is just one of those people who see what they miss in a fandom and create it themselves, and among these creators Lexi is my favorite. She just has that certain skill that makes that approach to writing result in the most enjoyable reading experiences. Lexi’s fics are special, because they’re different, because they are authentic and you can feel that when you’re reading her work.

@djpurple3 is another talented individual I want to talk about. I have to confess, DJ is, as far as original content goes, almost exclusively locked in my brain with the fiction “I just keep loosing my beat”. 23 Chapters so far, one better than the last. It’s a bitter-sweet story following Remus and his children, after the bitch of a mother has been brought behind bars. Abusive piece of shit. Yeah, I don’t like her much. But the story is so full of love and support, everyone trying their best, everyone seeing how much the others deserve the world and wishing they could give it to them… Roman and Remus have a sibling-dynamic I would die for here, too. Patton is just the most adorable friend to Deceit - here Damion - Virgil is a precious bean, Logan is cute and the teacher we all wish he’d had ourselves and… god, I could keep gushing about this fic forever. I’ll stop now, though, before I’ll start spoiler things. Wouldn’t want to do that, especially since I really, really, really want more people to give this a go. It’s not underrated, I just think everyone who doesn’t is missing out by a lot, so… Go over there and read DJ’s fic right fucking now, if you haven’t already read it at least once. Thank you.

@delimeful​, our wonderful lime-friend with a cute cat making a terrifying face in his header. First of all, there is the WIBAR universe, short for “Watch it burn and rust”. 5 chapters in act one, 4 intermissions (one of those with three chapters), one chapter of act two, as well as three extras and an au of this au called “the end of being alone”, and I’ve lost count of how many nights I spent reading those instead of sleeping like I should. (Or interacting with family. Or being productive. Or… It’s really a good story, okay?!) WIBAR is a deathworlder au. So a space au in which humans are regarded as dangerous deathworlders who can survive on a deathworld like earth. In other words, Virgil is the only human, and boy does that scare everyone around him. And the best part? You can feel the development, the shift in mentality regarding Virgil, feel the moment approach in which he isn’t a threat but a companion instead.

And, apart from the fic that inspired me enough to start writing “TINND!R?” over on my writing blog, there are a lot more amazing fics to read on lime’s blog. He wrote “How easy you are to need”, for example. It’s soft, it pulls at just the right heartstrings, it’s achingly hopeful and, god, the ending still has me in tears, even after the fifth - ? sixth? something among those lines - reread. This one’s a werewolf au, actually. Virgil is the werewolf, Logan, Patton and Roman are the humans.

Do you want yourself some of that pre-AA dynamic? I’d recommend “to taste your beating heart”. In this, Virgil gets separated from the rest of his group of vampire hunters and gets turned into a vampire himself, loosing his memories. And he’s “Anx” now, not “Virgil”, goddamnit! He isn’t their friend anymore, why don’t they understand that? Well, probably because they can still see Virgil’s old habits shining through. There’s a lot of tension, a lot of angst and a whole lot of frustration involved in this.

He also wrote some amazing one-shots. They’re mostly so well written that I’m almost sad not to be waiting on a continuation. There’s “the littlest mermaid”, in which Virgil goes to investigate a noise, finding a scared, tiny mermaid in need of help. In “community gardens” we have Remus being Remus, gaining the interest and friendship of the forest’s giant Logan. “Magical mutualism” tells the tale of a witch and a demon making a pact beneficial to both parties and opening the doors neither could have gone beyond alone. The way we’re all confused about our ships not actually having set sail yet comes to a hight in Virgil in regards to his friends in “amateur matchmakers”. And this is the point at witch I stop talking before I actually recommend every single one of lime’s fics instead of just my favorites as I had planed because I started to gush too much… XD

Let’s move on to @muppenthings​. Mupp is an amazing artist and she created a giant mermaid au. There’s this one orca who’s just… We love her, but I actually don’t think she’s the brightest. I really, really love her, though. Virgil himself is being a little protective over his human friends and casually so. I love this comic series for the art style, but I also love the way it makes me crack a laugh at least once per work. Or appeal to my mother-instincts, if it’s about baby Virgil. Too cute for his own good, I tell ya! And the facial expressions! The detail, the jokes, everything about this is wonderful. You should at least take a look.

@whenisitenoughtrees​. Cat got me with “This cup of yours tastes holy (This lie is dead)”. “A slow voice on a wave of phase” was next, later “Infinity and beyond”, “we are not alone in the dark with out demons” and “changing of the guard”. And then, suddenly, the night was over. I’ve read almost all of the fics in one go, and I’ve been semi-frequently visiting her master post ever since. When “There’s an endless road to rediscover” came out just a little while back, that lead to me re-reading through almost the entire list. I don’t regret it, my plans for that weekend would like to disagree.

These six fics I mentioned here are, by no means, the only ones I enjoyed. Those are just the ones I’ve found myself opening up again and again in sleepless nights. Those are the ones that pop up in my head and have me smiling to myself in the middle of god-knows-whatever-I’ve-been-doing-at-the-time.

Angst, fluff, hurt-comfort, you’ll find everything in that list. And something I’ve grown to like about Cat’s fics even more than anything else is the quick change between feeling perplexed, a startled laugh at certain wordings (you’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it) and apprehension. These fics will have you at the edge of you seat, swooping you away on an emotional roller coaster. And, god, the way Cat writes from Remus’ perspective? The introductions of her stories and the way she redirects to the main topic after going into detail on something? I saved a few paragraphs as screenshots on my phone because I love them and I want to read them again when I’m down. I just… Cat’s great.

Next up is @eliemo. Because Elias Virgil is the royalty of Virgil angst. From the touch-starved Virgil we’ve all had a head cannon of at one point in “Heart of Ice”, over ace Virgil panicking over telling his boyfriends that he his ace and didn’t think to tell them before in “Love our way” to so, so much more.

Mostly EV follows the story arc of an underlying feeling of dread at the beginning, which slowly grows into panic, exploding in a storm of angst and concludes in everyone, or at least whoever is around, coming to the rescue and helping to calm down, with the end being the hope for getting better in the future. They always manage to convey the confusion, fear or just the general thought process so well that you can’t help but get absorbed in the story. They know exactly what to say and what to leave between the lines to get the maximum effect. And, your heart will definitely be shattered after their angst. Still, the way the sides comfort each other and support each other so well every time is just… I love their stories, a lot.

I want to make two more suggestions if you want to check out this creator. A Janus angst fic, which can only be described as “ouch” you’ll find under the name “snake bite”. It hurts in the best way possible, because Janus gets the comfort he deserves.

The other suggestion gets a lot darker. It’s about Virgil having been abused by the “others” before he got accepted into the light side. The others are shocked to find out what has gone on behind their backs and they help Virgil in every way they can to recover. Of cause it’s a rocky path, though. This would be “Learned Behavior”. The series/au has twelve stories so far, one of which has two parts. You’ll find the master post for this pinned to the top on their blog.

If you like angst, you should also give @maybedefinitely404​ a look. Ly has a soulmate-au going, in which they use the concept of “you hear the music your soulmate listens to”. "Music in my head” is a prinxiety fic, but the two of them have yet to meet. Four chapters and two mini-fics in. The reason I mentioned angst is because in this - spoiler alert for the first few chapters here - , Virgil gets put through conversion therapy. Luckily Janus and Logan are better foster parents than the ones who did that to him.

They also have a master list for all their soulmate stories, featuring different ships. Apparently they participated in soulmate month, if I understood that correctly. And to be honest, that was how I even found their account. I absolutely adore their anxceit fic, which takes place in a human au. It’s starting off pretty sad, but the bonding moments are absolutely wonderful. It’s a lovely story, and the ending is one of the best ones I’ve yet to read. Their logince fic took my breath away, too. A flower shop/tattoo artist au, and Logan is the tattoo artist. Stunning writing, wonderful world building, just the right amount of backstory to have everything make sense without overwhelming/drowning the reader in unnecessary details. Their moxceit fiction… Well, this one had me in tears within the first few paragraphs. It’s terrible and you feel for Janus, whose perspective this is written from. The ending, though… Gods! The ending was so indescribably cute. To be honest, all of the soulmate stories are great, these three are just my personal favorites.

Concerning their one shots, you’ll probably have to figure it out on your own concerning this. I haven’t been able to read all of them yet, as sad as that makes me. Definitely palling on doing it in the future, though. I did read two of them, though. “Pippity poppity” really was amusing, and I am so looking forward to the second part of “The Boy who sings next door”. The way they write the dynamics between the sides? I live for that.

Another creator I would like to recommend is @maybe-im-tired.They don’t have a master post, as far as I could see, but they only post their content anyways, so… “Can’t take my eyes off of you” is my favorite out of their fics so far. I mean, the way they managed to fit the sheer chaos that is intrulogical into this one short fic is amazing. And you could take about two thirds of what Remus said and put it up on your wall as out-of-contexts-quotes. Don’t worry, he says them out of context anyways, and they will definitely make you laugh. 

The series of short stories for the human au that starts with “Glowing stars” is another au by them that you will almost certainly like. We have Logan and Virgil as kids (about 7 I think), Remus and Patton as single parents, Roman as the most adoring uncle, Emile as babysitter and Remy as his amazing partner. Remus is a great father, wonderfully chaotic as well. And a teacher! Imagine that, Remus as your teacher... He’s great with kids though, as long as they aren’t entitled villains come to make his precious Virgil feel bad, that is.

They also wrote a bunch of “random one shots”. They are all amazing, but my favorite has to be this one. It’s a logince one, once again human au. Patton may or may not tell his big brother’s crush about the feelings he wasn’t prepared to share yet. You know, as small kids do. It’s soft, it will make you smile as much as Logan does, and I love Remus in it. I generally like how they write Remus, okay? I know how much I’ve said it, but I’m not even exaggerating. They always write him differently, and all versions they write him as are so, so lovable and just… I wanna hug the life out of all Remus versions they wrote, okay? Take a look, you’ll know why.

Anyways. Let’s continue with @figurative-siren-song. This is the last account I’ve followed and I’m still sad about it having taken me this long to find them. Little salty, to be honest. (I’ll stick to they/them because they said just not to use she/her, and, well… consistency, you know? Don’t have much, so I have to get what I can XD). When I finally did find them, I went through their entire master list (at least all of the ships with characters I actually know. I’m kinda bad with the shorts characters, so I usually just… avoid them? Idk. Personal preference, I guess), and, well… I would honestly recommend every single fic on that list. They call themself “Repair Fluff King™️” and they deserve that title. But when they warn you that a fic will be angsty, it will be angsty.

I found them through the anxceit fic “A Deal”. Well, through an animatic by their friend on youtube that had linked the fic, but details. I’ve been reading this fic up and down again and again. It’s just so good! And when they talk in the second part and Janus explains why he proposed that deal. Or in the continuation, which i can’t talk about because I will probably spoiler things! So wholesome!

 Also, their losleepxeity fic “We’re worth it”. So soft! The nicknames, the plot, the everything. It’s softer than clouds look, and we all know that means something.

But, really. Everyone will find something for them by this creator. So many ships, all incredibly well written, and soft and fluffy without getting boring in the slightest. It’s as energizing as coffee, actually. And, let’s be honest, this whole fandom drowns itself in angst most of the time. Take a break from that, repair your broken hearts with goof fluffy content that you’ll want to read over and over again. Go check this creator out. You will love them. 

Last but not least… @myfriendsasthesides​ A blog by a creator who just takes the wonderfully chaotic dynamics of a friend group and using that to give us content of incorrect sides quotes. Maybe it doesn’t fit with me going on and on about fics here. I don’t care. Follow them and turn on those notifications, please, because seeing even one post of theirs on your dashboard will make your day. It’s funny, it’s absurd, it’s chaotic, it’s making you jealous of them for having friends like that. Believe me, you will want to see those posts. It’s just… the random shots of serotonin and dopamine out generation needs really fucking desperately 100% of the time. 

That’s it with the list! Eleven creators I absolutely adore, and I’m sorry I was babbling so much all the way through, but… Well, actually I’m not sorry. And actually, half of the reason I even made this post is to tell them how much I love them and fangirl about them a bit. So… Yeah. Well.I love you guys and hope you’ll have a wonderful day! “Get the guest out of my fucking office.”

Jang Won grimly knocks on the door, looking down to ensure Younghoon was carrying more than a fruit basket - a briefcase, worth half a million in cash, in case she needed to bribe a certain someone. Her eyes befall the apple sitting in the fruit basket, and she peels apart the wrapper to remove the bruised item, mindlessly hurling it into the trash can right by the lift. 

The door clicks open, the sound of the door chain reminding her that she needs to handle this one with care and caution.

“What are you doing here?”

“Hi Mrs Nam, I’m Kim Jang Won and this is--”

“I know who you are. I’m asking what you’re here for.”

“Straight to the point I see,” Jang Won cocks a brow. “Look, we don’t want to make things difficult for you, but we’d just like to find out if you happened to know anything about the body swap regarding your husband.”

Mrs Nam’s breathing gets stuck in her throat. She swallows, eyes flitting back and forth between Jang Won and Younghoon. 

“I know nothing. After he died, I visit him every month. I didn’t even know his body was moved until the news.”

Jang Won feels like she’s being strangled, all her nerves shutting down one by one like a tidal surge through her. But Younghoon tugs on the end of her blazer, out of sight, and shifts to talk to Mrs Nam instead.

“Do you mind if we come in and have a chat about it? We’d just like to know more about Mr Nam so we can figure out who did it. Don’t you at least want to know who shifted your husband’s body?”

A hint of curiosity and anger flickers in her eyes despite the slight hesitation. Mrs Nam subtly nods, head looking down but gaze still stuck to Younghoon as she gently closes the door.

“You don’t have to be in there if you don’t want to,” He murmurs, loud enough for her to hear while watching her in the corner of his eyes. 

Jang Won sniffles, finger rubbing the tip of her nose as she composes herself. The jingle of the chain being removed sounds through the door. 

“I’ll be in there because I want to, not because I can.”

The door clicks open, and Mrs Nam keeps it wide for Jang Won and Younghoon to enter. The apartment is rather neat and simple - a couple of single sofa seats around a circular table and a standing television. Pictures on the shelves framing the television. 

Drawn to the pictures first, Jang Won wanders to the photographs. 

A son, older than Younghoon, stands in most of the pictures. A degree in culinary sciences. A picture shot in Paris. Multiple pictures in Europe. A family portrait of him and his wife, Caucasian. 

Younghoon sits opposite Mrs Nam, who looks more tired and drained than anything else, like the anger from before has completely dissipated.

He glances through the pictures, aware that something must’ve caught his sister’s attention because Jang Won wasn’t being very focused now. “We just wanted to know more about him. He might’ve worked at Artemis and I’ve yet to check with his ex-colleagues but I just wanted to know if he was happy there, or if he wasn’t, did he have any... enemies?”

Mrs Nam takes in a deep breath, rubbing an eye before her hands come together on her lap. “No, he was happy, as far as I knew. The only thing he was upset about was my son moving to France and settling there. But otherwise, he was easy-going. Kind. Helpful. I can’t think of anybody who would want to deliberately shift his... body... because he had offended them.”

“I hate to be the one to suggest this but could your father have done anything to anger your son... to the point where--”

“No,” She says with such resolution, it finally tears Jang Won’s attention off the photos. “Never. Their love might’ve been tough but they’ll never do anything to hurt each other.”

Younghoon glances at his sister before returning to Mrs Nam. “So... nobody, huh?”

“None that I can think of.”

Jang Won blinks her emotions away, fingers fiddling with her rings as she looks to Younghoon. His eyes sink to the floor, licking his lips in slight anxiety as he realises they’ve hit a dead end. 

They leave the apartment with only the briefcase, and Mrs Nam closes the door before they can even walk off. The lift ride was exceptionally quiet, Younghoon merely watching Jang Won zip in and out of reality in the reflection of the lift mirrors. 

He looks over, watching the layer of tears thicken over her eyes. Reaching out and rubbing her shoulder, he contains the emotions he’s feeling, just by watching his cold-hearted sister reveal the hint of humanity in her. 

“I told you not to go in if you couldn’t.”

“And I could,” Jang Won clears her throat. “I don’t need you to baby me. It’s been a long time anyway. I’ll deal with it.”

The lift door dings open, and sees Jang Won walking out the doors, leaving Younghoon behind as she struts off. 

Unfortunately, this soft side of Jang Won remains short-lived, for Younghoon finds himself holding her back from tearing the skin off their father’s face when they reach home. 

“What the Hell is this?” Jang Won frowns, facial lines deepening in her skin when the staff is crowded in her office but none of them were moving. Her father, standing by her desk, looks up from the loaded query. 

“Ah, child! I was just waiting to--”

“Are you... moving into my office?”

Her father opens his mouth, lips wide enough for her to see her teeth when Mr Ro finally joins the party. 

“What is going on here?”

“Sir,” One of the housemaids lowers her head, almost like she was embarrassed. “Our guest-- Mr Kim... asked for us to help shift Miss Kim’s belongings out of her office. We were told not to tell you.”

Jang Won’s eyes almost double in size when she processes the words, the tips of her feet already turning to her father. Mr Ro looks up from his subordinate with distaste and disapproval, unable to believe the things he was trying to accomplish. 

“Just which part of June did you not fucking understand? Huh?” Jang Won takes one step forward, but Younghoon grabs her wrist and then wraps his palms around her upper arms. “Playing possum killed your braincells too?”

“No...! No! I wanted things to be early, smooth. So that you wouldn’t be pressured to shift out in June--”

“Bold of you to assume you’ll get it in June!” She hisses, harshly ripping herself out from Younghoon’s grip. “From now on you are a guest and a guest only. This is my house and you will touch nothing that does not belong to you.”

“Aw, come on, daughter--”

“Don’t--” She seethes, finger almost at his nose now. “Call me that. From now on, we just share the same surname... But if you want mercy on the account that I am something you created, then I’d rather you wait until I die.”

The staff in the room lower their head as she storms by them toward the door, and as dramatic as she is, she pulls the doors open and smiles widely at her staff. “A kind, kind reminder that all these people standing before you, Mr Kim Jo-Pil... they work for me. They answer to Mr Ro, and Mr Ro answers to me. So, shall you require any assistance in possibly fucking something else up... do get it to me through Mr Ro.”

She smiles sweetly, tilting her head to the side. “Now, get the guest out of my fucking office.”

The wind brushes through Juyeon’s hair relentlessly, his dark blue, almost black, locks ruffled and made messy in the wind. The yacht makes small jumps against the water, the sun reflected off the surface of the water and into his eyes, the motion of the vehicle spraying some of it onto his hands that were over the railing. 

“Are you sure you want to get yourself involved in this... Jang Won and The Board, I mean,” Sunwoo joins Juyeon by the cockpit, grabbing a bottle of Sprite and cracking the cap open. He takes a sip and smacks his lips, letting the wind do its job in his hair too. “I mean, I know it wasn’t your choice but... that stunt at the press conference last week? Damn, son.”

Juyeon smirks and scoffs, looking at Sunwoo through the lens of his sunglasses. “Maybe it was fueled by her, I don’t know... But I’d be lying if I said being at the same table with her doesn’t make me feel powerful. It feels like I could do anything I wanted as long as she was by my side and it’d... it’ll work, you know?”

“‘It’ll work’?” Sunwoo chuckles sarcastically. “You’re talking about the most powerful figure of The Board of your generation. Hell, it’s Hera’s Princess you’re dealing with here. I’m sure if you played by her rules a hundred percent, she’d buy you an island if you wanted.”

The continuous splash of the water just a few metres down the railing brings some kind of peace to Juyeon, despite the idea of being married to Kim Jang Won being tasteless.

“What about her brother? The Prince of Artemis, right? Kim Younghoon. He must’ve had something to say about Apple-Korea’s next director smooching his little sister on national TV,” Sunwoo snorts, taking another gulp of his drink. 

Juyeon shakes his head, apart from providing Sunwoo a patient smile. “I haven’t met her brother, actually. But word has it he’s the calmer of the two, which I’m actually pretty grateful for.”

“Maybe you should get acquainted with him. Get on Kim Jang Won’s good side by making friends with Kim Younghoon,” Sunwoo places the bottle back into the ice box, noticing the yacht slowing down to a halt. Juyeon peels himself off the railings, finally standing and giving his own limbs a big stretch. 

“Nah,” Juyeon shakes his head and pulls off his sunglasses, squinting away from the harsh sunlight. “The thing about Jang Won is that you shouldn’t indirectly find ways to get on her good side... you gotta do it in her face. That’s how she plays her games. Straightforward. Ruthless.”

“So like... borderline crazy and a control freak too, right?”

Juyeon snickers, pulling off his shirt to reveal the diving suit he’s got underneath. “Pretty sure if your dad came back from the dead and took over your life’s work, you would too.”

Sunwoo smirks, stripping the pieces of clothes off himself too. “Defending the missus already, I see.”

Rolling his eyes and pulling on an oxygen tank with a mask, Juyeon then glares at the younger. “Well, if she’s offering me all the cents I can count, I might as well work it to my best effort, right?”

He cocks a smug brow, giving his goggles one last adjustment before heading to the edge of the yacht. The hues of blue calm his nerves, already able to see the world of life beneath the surface. It has always been his paradise, and always will be.

“Today, we celebrate the love between two of The Board’s most powerful figures: Lee Juyeon, the next director of Apple-Korea, and The Board’s very own Hera’s Princess, Kim Jang Won. Just a last month, the return of Kim Jo-Pil shocked the country...”

Jang Won dips her finger into the glass of lemon-infused water, contorting the image of the television beyond the table and the space of the room. Still in her pajamas, she cannot find the motivation and strength to leave her bed. She can already hear the crowd bustling downstairs, getting ready for her hair, makeup, fittings--

Knock knock

“Oh, Mr Ro,” She covers her eyes, tired. The door clicks open and she groans to herself, refusing to open her eyes. “Please just kill me. I hate it. I hate all of this. Why did he have to climb out of his own grave?”

“I don’t know. His body was swapped, wasn’t it?”

The voice jolts Jang Won out of her laziness, and she sits up like she had been summoned from the dead too. 

“When did you get here?” 

Juyeon smiles, somewhat genuine, and leans against the door frame. He was already in a simple button up shirt, meant to be hidden under a gorgeous, white and silver blazer. His hair’s still wet though, his fringe covering his eyebrows and some portion of his eyes. 

Jang Won can’t help but soften at the sight of him half a foot into his room - if only Lee Juyeon knew how much her friends back in high school swooned over him. 

“Also, I don’t think killing you would be a great idea. Wouldn’t want to see you climb out of your own grave too. Family traits seem to run in the blood of the Kims.”

Jang Won rolls her eyes and crawls her way out of the bed that’s too big for her, feet finding her fluffy, cotton slippers by the bed and shuffling about the bedroom with her hair in a mess. 

“Not very good at answering questions, are you?” She sniffles, not bothering to close the bathroom door behind her as she ties her hair gracefully, pulling a hair towel over her head to keep her fringe out of her face. She hears the door click, and Juyeon appears behind her in the reflection of the mirror. 

The scent of mint from the toothpaste wafts through her nose. 

“Well,” He shrugs and leans against the doorframe again, brushing his fringe out of his eyes. “I answered yours.”

Jang Won chokes on the toothpaste foam, gripping the edges of the sink as she retches into the marble. “Your butler... Mr Ro, called me over. Offered to cover my fitting and everything for today. He said it’s on the house, or rather, yours, I suppose.”

Jang Won finishes up on her brushing, spitting out the leftover foam. “Still didn’t answer my question, y’know.”

Juyeon removes himself off the doorframe, watching her struggle by throwing her hair behind her shoulder. Some locks keep sliding back down around her neck, and her hands are already lathering some facial wash. She tuts in frustration, unable to get her hair out of the way.

Then Juyeon gently gathers her hair behind her neck, his warm fingers barely brushing against her skin. “Morning. Just about two hours ago,” He waits for Jang Won to squint at him, before she provides enough trust to shut her eyes and rub the lotion into her cheeks. 

“Mr Ro wanted to come wake you up, but something seemed to crop up with the tea and cake catering, so.”

“What? What’s wrong with the tea and cake catering? I paid good money for that bullshit,” She looks up from the sink, face smeared in some greenish-blue cream.

He grins, chuckling under his breath as she glares at him in the mirror. “Paying good money for ‘bullshit’, huh? How much did the ‘bullshit’ cost then?”

“Well,” She hesitates and frowns, creating lines in the lotion on her face. “Enough to piss me off if they don’t give me what I want.”

Leaning towards the sink, she runs her hands under the water and washes the lotion off her face.

“What company is the catering from? Need my help?”

She scoffs, waving his hand off her hair, grabbing a cotton towel and pressing it to her face. “To what? What are you gonna do? ‘Hey there, I’m the next director of Apple-Korea and I’d like my tarts and cupcakes this afternoon’.”

He leans his rear into the edge of the platform where the sink was built into, back facing the mirror while she carefully hangs the towel over the metal bar mounted into the beige marble wall. “What else would you want me to say, since that’s just exactly what I want?”

“I’on’t know, buy the company or something.”

He raises both brows in extreme shock, his lips pouting in disbelief that he should’ve been prepared for anyway. “What a solution.”

“Got a better idea?” She rolls her eyes, pulling a robe into the shower cubicle. “Also, are you going to stand there and watch me strip?”

Juyeon’s eyes flit off her instantly, hands pushing himself off the edge of the sink. “Could’ve just asked me to leave instead of being so crude.”

“Well now, I didn’t ask you to leave, I asked--”

“I know- I know what you asked-” Juyeon grimaces, blowing some air into the pockets between his teeth and lips. He sucks in a deep breath and exhales loudly through an ‘o’, giving Jang Won some kind of sadistic pleasure. “Do you ever get tired of that? Messing with people?”

Jang Won’s brown orbs rise to the ceiling, actually giving thought to the question. Her lower lip juts out as she shrugs. “Well... yeah. Yeah,” She finally nods. “But hey! I have different degrees of messing-with-people. There’s the I-kinda-wanna-mess-with-you-by-making-you-awkward kind and there’s the I-might-wanna-rebury-my-dad kind-”

“Alright, you have a nice bath.” 

Snorting, Juyeon waves her nonsense off and walks out the bathroom, sliding the door shut.

Bloodhound & Loba: Bloodhound has always liked Bangalore, they find her enthusiasm for firearms both useful and amusing, and they respect each other’s want for privacy in their personal lives. That said, there was always a sadness around her. When Loba got added to the equation she agreed that she worried about her, “because we have issues, but we also have hobbies.” It’s when they look in the firing range one day and catch Horizon kissing her, and see the lovestruck look on her face, that the two legends feel their friend will be alright.

Gibraltar: He’s been drinking buddies with Bangalore for years and always teased her about pretty girls that would walk by ‘cause she was like a teenager, just stuttering and blushing and immediately changing the subject. He was 99 percent sure if she ever tried to ask a girl out she’d faint before she finished saying “hi”. So going out to get drinks and finding Horizon and her arm in arm prompted shocked laughter, a great amount of teasing from him and Horizon to the point Bangalore buried her face in the bar, and a round of drinks on him.

Lifeline: Horizon seemed so intensely focused on her son she’s surprised when the woman mentions, casually, that she had a date that night. When she further elaborates that it’s Bangalore, she’s even more surprised since, in her mind, Bangalore is kind of an ass. Still, as weeks pass and Bangalore becomes less and less surly, she decides sometimes the perfect medicine for asshole is just a daily spoonful of sweetheart.

Pathfinder: After seeing friend Bangalore cry twice in one hour that one time, he is very happy that she has found someone so she maybe won’t have to do that again the next time someone digs into her intensely conflicted and emotional past!

Wraith: When she finds a small note apologizing for “maybe overstepping a boundary” from Bangalore in her dorm, the voices tell her something is up. At first, she thinks it’s an elaborate assassination attempt, and then she thinks Bang is just fucking with her, and then she realizes Bangalore’s been a lot happier lately, so there’s some kind of connection between that and this. Then she sees Bang leave an orchid with a bow on Horizon’s desk and realizes the connection. She concludes she and Bangalore can talk (and they do, and things are a lot less tense afterward).

Bangalore: Girl!!! Like me??? Girl!!! AHHHHHHH. Then she’s laying back in bed watching Horizon use one of her gravity pads to put Christmas lights along the rim of the ceiling and thanking God quietly in her head. It breaks her heart to think about what’ll happen when Horizon finally finds her way home, and when she hopefully finds her own, but if she’s learned anything over the years, it’s to treasure the sun before it sets.

Caustic: Raises eyebrows, nothing more. Bangalore is a competent teammate, and Horizon is an admirable scientific and intellectual equal, despite their disagreements on morality. Perhaps some interesting data changes will occur in the games with the partnership. Perhaps he’ll get more coffee. It has about the same pertinence in his life.

Mirage: He is super excited for Horizon, who visits the Paradise Lounge to talk sometimes (which he totally doesn’t spend fan-boying). She just seems so much more lively and bubbly than she already is and, well, damn, one of the Legendary Sad Sacks has to have something going for them other than a tragic backstory. He is surprised it’s Bangalore, though, cause he was pretty sure, like pretty-pretty? sure Loba had a thing for Mary, except maybe it was the new Valkyrie girl, or maybe Valkyrie had a thing for Loba and Loba had a thing for Bangalore? Wait, where was he going with this? Eh, he’ll just give Horizon a congratulatory beer and give Bang shit for it later ‘cause there was no way Horizon would let Bang coat his gym bag in prowler pheromones, right?...Right?

Octane: Lifeline tells him. He says, “yo, think getting laid will make Bang less of a tight ass?” He then recalls being thrown and waking up in the infirmary. Bangalore had been behind him the whole time. He was 100% correct, though.

Wattson: Horizon invited her over to do a dual experiment. She walked in when Bangalore was coming out of the shower, naked. She put two and two together and quizzed Horizon about all the little details while Bangalore made herself decent. She’d always known Bangalore as a little standoffish and anti-social, though sweet, so she excitedly congratulates her as well when she gets out. When their 1yr anniversary approaches, Bangalore asks if Wattson can help her make a little custom Nessie with a tiny star projector in it for Horizon and Wattson is only happy to oblige.

Crypto: He knew before everyone else because of his snooping through the Syndicate security camera detail, unwittingly seeing their first kiss almost in a camera blind spot in one of the corridors. He’s caught them hugging, kissing, and cuddling in various alcoves and corners and always quietly erases the footage for them, though says nothing. He’s just glad somebody on the dropship doesn’t hate their life.

Revenant: Didn’t know, didn’t care, vaguely threatened Horizon in front of Bangalore for funsies. He woke up in one of his other bodies a while later with an ache in his gut where she’d, apparently, severed one of his main sets of tubing. He tried to eviscerate her in the Games after that, but Horizon got him with a peacekeeper. He tried going for Horizon and suddenly there was Bangalore, and he was waking up in a new body again. He decided they weren’t worth it. Though he could have totally taken them on. Just didn’t want to.

Rampart: She gives Bangalore constant shit. Makes kissy faces, asks how her giiiiiiiirlfriend is doing in a sing-song voice, pokes her when Horizon is in sight, has sang the “Anita and Mary sittin’ in a tree” rhyme more than once, which usually makes Horizon laugh and Bang chase her. But she’s also usually the one Bangalore talks to casually about it the most, besides Loba, and thinks Horizon is good for her and, truthfully, that Bang is good for Horizon, too.

Horizon: It took her a while to admit the feelings to herself since her relationships have a history of not working out, and that she sort of had a time limit on how long she’d even be in this century. But the heart wants what it wants, and Horizon is a romantic at her core. Bangalore was initially extremely oblivious but once she said, “I like you darlin’, but I mean that in the gayest way possible” she got the memo and turned out to be a bit of a romantic herself. She feels like Bangalore keeps her grounded, out of her own head when it keeps running on the hamster wheel to nowhere. And even though the woman has like, 3 braincells some days, she loves her. One of her favorite things is when Bangalore sings in the shower, but she’s never told her that.

Fuse: He doesn’t know either very well, but he thinks they look good together. He and Horizon will go drinking sometimes, now it just involves Bangalore as well, and sometimes Gibraltar and Rampart if they tag along. But in general they’re not a couple of pikers* so they’re A-OK in his book.

Valkyrie: When they are all on a team together, she thinks it’s HILARIOUS to shout, “LET’S GO LESBIANS!” before charging another team or third-partying. Horizon and Bangalore also find it pretty funny, but neither has ever given Valkyrie the satisfaction.

*Apparently Australian slang for couples that leave parties early/boring couples. I just googled it don’t @ me

 the  third  child  of  augusta  &  horace  longbottom,  frank  was  raised  with  all  the  comfort  and  privilege  of  the  wizarding  world’s  upper-middle  class.  his  father  head  of  the  ministry’s  goblin  liaison  office,  his  mother  having  a  seat  on  the  wizengamot,  and  the  longbottom  name’s  place  in  the  sacred  twenty-eight  caused  them  to  be  a  well-respected  family.  they  stayed  out  of  the  pureblood  supremacy  discussions  and  held  a  tolerant  view,  but  didn’t  exactly  speak  on  that  view  either.  they  were  rich  enough  to  enjoy  a  comfortable  lifestyle,  but  didn’t  even  come  close  to  competing  with  the  generational  wealth  of  the  upper  echelons  families.  simply,  the  longbottom’s  enjoyed  a  place  in  the  wizarding  world  where  they  were  often  just  left  alone,  unless  they  chose  to  step  in  a  different  direction  themselves.  frank,  the  baby  of  the  family,  grew  up  without  much  want  or  ambition.  his  parents  provided  whatever  he  needed,  he  wasn’t  a  big  brain  like  his  older  siblings,  so  high  educational  goals  were  never  even  a  thought,  and  with  the  family’s  lack  of  involvement  in  wizarding  world  political  issues,  he  did  not  care  much  for  those  either.  frank  always  figured  he’d  probably  land  a  cozy  ministry  job,  or,  if  he  really  tried  his  best,  a  decent  position  on  a  quidditch  team  somewhere.           

 frank  made  a  couple  of  mistakes  along  the  years.  fell  in  with  the  wrong  crowds  solely  by  association  or  lack  of  care,  and  frequently  did  not  even  care  to  stand  up  for  those  being  hurt  by  said  wrong  crowd  —  no  matter  that  he  felt  guilt  about  it.  the  sorting  hat  had  doubted  between  gryffindor  and  hufflepuff  for  frank,  and  he  frequently  wondered  why  it  had  settled  on  the  former.  neutrality  felt  like  frank’s  safeguard,  no  one  bothered  him,  and  he  did  the  same  in  return.  regardless,  he  wasn’t  exactly  disliked  around  school  either.  a  decent  quidditch  player  and  all  around  chill  guy,  frank’s  smile  and  sense  of  confidence  and  ease  was  contagious.  it  wasn’t  until  his  eldest  brother  joined  the  auror’s  office  and  started  saying  some  choice  words  about  pureblood  supremacists  that  frank  ever  even  felt  actual  dislike  against  him.  cecil  was  always  the  more  passionate  one,  he  deeply  cared  about  others  —  and  would  always  fight  to  protect  those  in  need.  frank  was  frequently  questioned  if  he  shared  his  brother’s  feelings,  but  met  those  with  a  careless  shrug,  though  whenever  he  arrived  home,  cecil  always  received  an  earful  on  how  he  was  affecting  frank’s  popularity  at  school.  but  near  the  end  of  frank’s  seventh  year,  tragedy  struck  the  longbottom  family,  and  everything  changed.           

 cecil  was  a  little  too  good  at  his  job,  he’d  caused  a  little  too  much  trouble  for  those  who  opposed  him,  and  so,  the  death  eaters  moved  to  capture  and  kill  frank’s  older  brother.  no  school,  no  job,  and  a  household  filled  with  nothing  but  grief,  frank  fell  into  a  pretty  deep  darkness  —  despite  his  blasé  attitude,  he  cared  for  his  brother,  and  his  death  had  brought  him  anger.  cecil  had  only  wanted  to  make  the  world  a  better  place,  and  he  was  killed  for  it.  frank  was  without  purpose  for  a  while,  until  a  member  of  the  order  of  the  phoenix  &  friend  of  cecil  approached  him  and  offered  not  just  a  chance  to  avenge  his  brother,  but  the  chance  to  save  others  from  this  fate  as  well.  it  took  him  a  while,  but  the  order  was  good  for  him  —  and  there  was  a  fire  to  him  now.  to  improve  himself  and  find  a  source  of  income,  frank  signed  up  for  the  auror  academy  when  he  turned  nineteen,  and  has  been  working  ever  since.  he’s  never  been  the  brightest  in  the  bunch,  but  frank’s  found  his  courage  in  the  auror’s  office,  his  creativity  and  bold  approach  to  things  often  surprising  others.  it  was  there  he  also  met  alice,  and  her  presence  in  his  life  has  been  one  of  the  comforting  things  he’s  ever  experienced.  frank  is  climbing  upwards  in  the  world,  somewhat  naively  unaware  that  the  higher  he  gets,  the  harder  it  will  be  if  he  falls.           

𝑾𝑨𝑵𝑻𝑬𝑫.

 former  friends:  frank  used  to  care  very  little  about  the  political  ins  and  outs  of  the  wizarding  world,  and  fell  in  with  a  bad  crowd  more  often  than  not.  since  the  death  of  his  brother,  frank’s  made  a  sharp  turn  from  neutrality  and  a  lack  of  care  to  a  staunch  order  supporter  and  auror.  i  have  no  doubts  that  there  were  some  in  his  former  circle  of  friends  that  did  not  take  this  well,  and  who  currently  have  a  very  antagonistic  relationship  with  frank,  bordering  on  hatred.  

 mentor  /  colleague:  despite  his  passion,  bold  approach  and  creative  ideas,  frank  is  still  very  fresh  to  the  auror  gig  and  this  type  of  fighting  in  general.  he’s  also  got  the  tendency  to  rush  into  things  head  first,  without  thinking  things  through.  big  gryffindor  energy  from  him,  but  it  could  use  some  sharpening  from  a  mentor-like  figure.  

 tentative  friendships  /  suspicion:  frank  is  committed  to  his  work  at  the  order  and  the  auror’s  office,  both  to  honor  his  brother  and  because  he’s  sat  still  too  long.  he  feels  like  he  has  to  prove  something,  and  therefore  is…  somewhat  eager  in  his  work.  considering  his  past  and  former  friends,  i’d  love  to  see  some  people  that  actually  distrust  him  and  are  trying  to  feel  out  if  he’s  not  just  a  double  agent  (  and  likely  will  find  out  fast  enough  that  he  doesn’t  have  enough  braincells  for  such  a  feat  ).  

 first  impressions,  struggling  to  adjust:  like  i  mentioned  in  his  backstory,  frank  used  to  lack  care  for  others.  likely  let  things  slide  that  got  other  people  hurt,  solely  because  he  was  scared  of  what  would  happen  if  he  didn’t  (  not  so  big  gryffindor  energy  here  ).  it  would  be  interesting  to  see  someone  who  did  feel  the  sting  of  frank’s  former  carelessness,  and  who  he  is  currently  trying  to  find  a  better  ground  with  &  to  atone  for  the  hurt  he  didn’t  stop.
