former coach of the Super Eagles, Rohr has disclosed his best game
Gernot Rohr, former head coach of Nigeria's Super Eagles, has revealed his favorite game as head coach, stating that his favorite game was the 2017 World Cup qualifier victory against Zambia. Rohr is currently the manager of the Benin Republic national team. Nigeria secured a spot in the 2018 FIFA World Cup through qualification in a specific match, according to Rohr, who spoke at a news conference before the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Benin Republic. “The matches you spoke about were fantastic. My first match was here, against Tanzania, we won it. We had to go to Zambia and we won it. We started with victories here against the team you talked about,” Rohr said. “The victory against newly crowned African champions Cameroon was a big one, particularly wonderful for us. “The 1-0 victory against Zambia which gave us qualification for the World Cup was the best one. After we went to Algeria, we played a good match, drawing but lost on the green carpet. “Fortunately for everybody, we were already qualified.” Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) terminated Rohr's five-year contract with the Super Eagles just before the 2021 AFCON. Rohr's tenure saw Nigeria win crucial games against Argentina, Poland, Zambia, Algeria, Cameroon, Libya, and Brazil and Ukraine. Read the full article

Gernot Rohr Gives Victor Moses Conditions To Return To Super Eagles Team
Gernot Rohr Gives Victor Moses Conditions To Return To Super Eagles Team Victor Moses would be welcomed back into Nigeria national team, especially if he played more regular club football, coach Gernot Rohr said on Tuesday, according to TheGuardian. The 28-year-old was a crucial part of Chelsea’s 2017 Premier League-winning side and in 2013 won both the Europa League for his club and the Africa Cup of Nations for his homeland. But the winger quit the Super Eagles aged just 27 after the Russia-hosted World Cup where defeats by Croatia and Argentina dumped Nigeria out in the first round. Moses said he wished to concentrate on his club career and his young family. Rohr said Moses had always acquitted himself well for his country and had announced his retirement too early. “We have to respect his decision. If he changes his mind we will welcome him back,” said Rohr. “But he has to find that motivation within himself to come back and be ready to give his 100 percent at all times, as we know he can.# “Then of course, it is important that he gets back to playing regularly at his club and get his sharpness back.” Moses was a regular at Stamford Bridge in the last two seasons when Antonio Conte steered the Blues to the English Premier League title in 2016-17 and last year’s FA Cup. But he has fallen out of favour with new manager Maurizio Sarri and made only a handful of appearances, prompting talk of a move away from Stamford Bridge. Read the full article

The quality of our players abroad is higher' - Gernot Rohr writes off chances of Nigerian league players joining Super Eagles
Super Eagles Head coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed his stance on the prospects of home based Nigerian players playing for the national team. Rohr guided Nigeria to an impressive 2-1 victory over Benin in Uyo on Wednesday as part of the Super Eagles' road to the 2021 African Nations Cup, but picked only 2 home based player in his 23 man contingent. The German tactician handed a late invitation to Enyimba defender Ifeanyi Anaemena after Lokomotiv Moscow's Brian Idowu withdrew from the squad. Anaemena and goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa were unused substitutes against Benin on Wednesday evening.
The Nigeria Football Federation wants to offer Rohr a new four year deal, but only if the coach's contract includes a clause that will see him involve more home based players and go around Nigerian stadiums to monitor the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). Rohr, a former Bayern Munich defender, has revealed he will not be pressured by the NFF to pick players, but will only pick players on merit. Rohr speaking to reporters post-Benin vitory, said; ''This is not the moment to speak about my contract, let us speak about the match, we have our project, let us speak about our team, we have been together for three years, Musa was here. ''The team is progressing and we now have young boys who are coming in. I know that you want more and more home-based players but the quality we have abroad is higher for the moment than in the home-based league (Nigeria Professional Football League). ''But we took somebody again to give him a chance, Ifeanyi from Enyimba, and we will all the time give the chance to the players who deserve''. Read the full article
