Tuesday July 13, 2021 — Puyallup, WA — Oktoberfest Northwest, the three-day Munich-style Oktoberfest celebration with German bier, delicious food, and live entertainment is back for 2021, Friday through Sunday, October 8th-10th, 2021, at Washington State Fair Events Center, in Puyallup WA.

After a year in hibernation, Washington’s largest Munich-style Oktoberfest, is back and ready to celebrate. The three-day fun-filled weekend will feature non-stop live entertainment with traditional German bands, plus the return of the one and only yodeling Oktoberfest Queen, Manuela Horn (6’ 7” in heels) performing on Friday evening, and the official Oktoberfest Northwest host, all weekend. The exciting entertainment lineup continues with 80s classic bands Night Wave (Friday) and The Spazmatics (Saturday) who will keep the crowd dancing, closing out the festival each night.

Oktoberfest Northwest will also feature traditional Bavarian food, authentic German biers in steins, Bavarian Bier-lympics, Stein Dash 5K, Hammerschlagen® Tournament of Champions, Wiener Dog races, and the Sports Haus with TV’s, and bar-style games like beer pong, Washer Boards and corn hole toss. There’s something for everyone to bring out the Oktoberfest spirit.

Oktoberfest Northwest welcomes families to enjoy the authentic Oktoberfest spirit with activities for kids of all ages up until 6pm daily including arts and crafts, traditional Maypole dancing, costume contests, and more.

Get your dirndl or lederhosen out of the closet, and get ready for an incredible weekend of Oktoberfest fun in 2021. Rain or shine, Oktoberfest Northwest will take place at the Washington State Fair Events Centre, in Puyallup.

The Munich "drive by"

Day 6

The original plan for today had been to do a day trip to Munich - home base for Oktoberfest.  Problem was that train tickets are extremely expensive unless you take the "Bayern" ticket option. However that option only allows travel at certain times.  Fortunately the trains seemed to be running again. The earliest we could get to Munich would be 1pm.  Bearing in mind I had another 4 - 7 hour train ride to Frankfurt, I looked at Steve as we stood by the ticket counter. I could tell from his expression, he was thinking "probably not worth it for you".

 "F#+k it - I'm doing it!" I believe we're my exact words. This would be our last day together. I felt a bit bad about having to leave the two of them for the last two days so there was no way I was going to miss even a few hours with them in Munich.  Well....turns out a few hours was an accurate description. 

The train ride took almost 3.5 hours and was packed with dozens of 20 something year olds in lederhosen and 'Heidi" dress - apparently the German tradition is to dress that way and make your way to Munich during Oktoberfest 

More interestingly - everyone seemed to be openly drinking large bottles of beers and having a very jolly time.

 On arriving in Munich, we quickly made our way to the World famous Hoff Brauhau (thanks to Alessandro for quickly finding the fastest route). Sadly after a stein and jumbo pretzel (see pics) it was all too soon time for me to go to catch my train to Frankfurt. Steve and Alessandro accompanied me back to the main station before moving to another brauhaus. I must say I had to hold back some tears as we hugged goodbye. I started to miss my travel and trail buddies as soon as I turned away.

Steve, thank you for orchestrating an amazing trip. You may be technically my brother in law but in my heart you have always been more like a brother to me! You are one of the most genuine and truly authentic people I know!"

To Alessandro - spending these few precious days with you has truly been a gift of a lifetime. I am so proud of you. Our long discussions in the saddle will stay for me for the rest of my life as one of the all time best experiences. You are an amazing young man and I am proud and honoured to be your dad! Looking forward to camping together next summer!
