Last night, I had a dream that our prayers were answered and S3 was announced and the gorgeous promo art was based on the above painting (Le Chevalier aux Fleurs, by Georges Rochegrosse). Stede and Ed were the standing figures in the center, with Stede as the knight and Ed as his lovely maiden, with the crew surrounding them celebrating their marriage. It was exciting and perfect and we were all so, so happy.

@nestaarcheronweek Day Three: Valkyrie
“Ataraxia”
@melphss and I are so excited to finally share this incredible fanart we commissioned with Letícia Bueno (tomandosal), who is an amazing artist.
The final chapter of A Court of Silver Flames begins by mentioning the arrival of spring, and I like to think of this as the beginning of a new cycle for Nesta, not only because she was born in spring, but because the season itself carries a symbolism of renovation and transformation.
Therefore, the painting Le Chevalier aux Fleurs (1894) by Georges Rochegrosse was used as a reference because of the scenery as well as other elements of the composition. However, the painting’s literary reference was not taken into account.
Symbolic is also that after Nesta embraces the title of Valkyrie, the last part begins, which is titled with the name of her sword.
“Ataraxia” would be experiencing happiness in a heightened way, controlling fears and desires in a stable and balanced way, consequently reaching a state of tranquility and absence of disturbances and passions.
This absence, however, cannot be confused with apathy, characterized by the loss of sensitivity in relation to external stimuli. The feeling nothing that Nesta thought she wanted as an immediate solution to dealing with everything that was affecting her.
Nesta’s choice at the end of the book is to feel everything, to experience everything, to live, despite the difficult moments that will continue to exist, because she understood this balance is possible and significantly because she became a Valkyrie.
She finds inner peace.
🚫 Please do not repost.

Georges Rochegrosse, Le Chevalier aux Fleurs (The Knight of the Flowers) (detail) (1894), oil on canvas
* * * *
Body, be who you need to be. Brown girl in an orange dress. Red macaw in a canopy. Be flock. Be the oldest living thing rooted beneath the language of things. The cypress your mother called Sarv-e Abarkuh. Be a life less heavy with history. Be the little boy who skips school to sell tea on the street. Be a box of pears clothed in gold paper. Be something more tart. Lime. Be mouth, be kingdom. Wear something made of infinity. Be sunset over a silk Zardosi sea. Be the young girl who survived a drowning by her loved ones. Be acid. Be sailed. Be colony. Be endangered and dangerous. Wear your own damp skin. Body, be something useful. Be dam and river the desert like blue streamers. River the village like the saddest epic. When you lay in the street with blood pooling around you, be memory. Be at the center of living. If nothing else, be a shadow of the thing.

Georges Rochegrosse 1859 - 1938 “The Flower Knight” (Le Chevalier aux fleurs) 1894 Oil on canvas Photo is taken by: @robertpuffjr When Rochegrosse painted The Knight of the Flowers he was pursuing his ambition to move closer to the refined and elitist aesthetic of the Symbolists, and to take advantage of the huge popularity of the English Pre-Raphaelites at that time.
