NEW OVERNIGHT: American Variety YouTuber 'IShowSpeed' cancels Visayas stop in Dumaguete City, especially the big 3 selected cities to be decided on; Vietnam opts-in for his South East Asia tour [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
Tumblr media
(Written by Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong / Freelanced News Writer, Online Media Reporter and News Presenter of OneNETnews)
HO CHI MINH, VIETNAM -- An absolute, shockingly twist of events, the widely-beloved variety and veteran male YouTuber, originating from the Ohio state in America named 'Mr. Darren Jason Watkins Jr.', who goes by his online moniker 'IShowSpeed', reportedly changed his traveling schedule during the South East Asia tour.
Originally intended by heading to the Visayas province to either visit Bacolod, Dumaguete (for both regions of Negros Occidental and Oriental), Cebu, or even Siquijor on Friday night (September 13th, 2024 -- GenSan local time), the content creator from United States of America (U.S.A.) has instead decided to head on over to 'Vietnam' from 'General Santos City, South Cotabato' the following morning on September 14th.
The visit of 'IShowSpeed' in our country has been really chaotic and memorable. When he arrived this week in Metro Manila via Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), he enthusiastically mixed with fans that caused several incidents wherein crowd control became a global worship epidemic issue. Yet, his whole thrust on trying to really appreciate the local culture and connect it to his fans showed that the interactions might be too overpowering for him.
On his 1st day this week, 'IShowSpeed' was surrounded by large crowds, leading to some tense moments, including being mobbed at a Mercedes Benz dealership in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) of Taguig. The situation escalated on the 2nd day, with fans becoming increasingly aggressive in General Santos City, prompting IShowSpeed to plead for more respectful behavior. This was after a double mini-exhibition home matches against Manny Dapidran 'PacMan' Pacquiao, relating both the boxing and chess.
Regarding the snack purchase of Oishi Pillows at a local sari-sari store, a text message reached out exclusively to 'Jerry Sara' with OneNETnews, as indicated from their verified GCash number (an electronic mobile wallet app for the Filipinos, who was owned by Mynt). IShowSpeed pocketed the change for PHP500 (almost U$D9), by being supporting Filipino snacks that were bought as promoted, during a LIVE online broadcast on YouTube (also owned by Google's Alphabet): "Taos puso po kaming nagpapasalamat sa kanya, dahil isa ang tindahan namin na napuntahan nya. Lalo na sa binigay niya, maraming blessings pa sa kanya", Sara concluded in Tagalog dialect.
The situation is already bad and rising; as we have learned exclusively from this latest information to us, The management and staff of IShowSpeed, came up with a decision to cancel their planned visits in one of the cities the Visayas region has chosen. IShowSpeed claims that immediately after his GenSan trip, he might go to Cebu City, and maybe right here in Negros Oriental, such as the municipality of Tanjay, Sibulan, and here in the City of Gentle People (known as Dumaguete) in the Philippines, if all else is planned peacefully at the end of his tour.
Instead, they opted for a silent departure to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, where the male variety YouTuber will continue his tour at night, according to an independent social media source. Their spate for sure reasons, if they resulted for a bad rainy weather, or to be taken a full-day rest off-stream for Day 3 on Friday. This was to secure his safety and well-being, as well as the security of those online fans & traditionally in-person. He is now landed recently in Vietnam today, where he will resume his South East Asia tour throughout the weekend.
These Filipino people had mixed reactions, and many know it has to be done for safety reasons, while some others were really shocked, like us, the Cebuano people in the Visayas and Mindanao, for this sudden change of plans. His worsest idea ever observed by this online epidemic of worshipping at concern. In exemption, during the whole South East Asia tour, food and cultures won't have any issue at all in the time of its writing.
Despite this, it is indeed a bit disappointing for some online and physical netizens on YouTube, especially after such a memorable visit to General Santos City and meeting with the former pro-boxer and congressional senate 'Mr. Manny Pacquiao'. That must have been an incredible experience for both 'IShowSpeed' and his fans.
Earlier, during the much-awaited Saturday afternoon broadcast from 5:30pm to 9:05pm (Manila local time), highlighted with almost 170,000 LIVE viewers. The total madness in Vietnam road is similar to the people there. He began his visit, inside a local market, trying to buy T-Shirts at the 'Tien My Shop'.
Then, local Subway-like sandwich restaurant, notably at 'Banh Mi Huynh Hoa' teaching 'IShowSpeed' on how to make one, especially if you really want to customize your food order, as inspired by the Connecticut-owned sandwich company in America. After that, a historic museum with the old-fashion of traditional dresses - needs no introduction at "Nguyen's Royal Museum". Her manager accepted him and gave it a souvenir free-of-charge, as a token of respect, to be served like a king.
Crowds gone wild, the people of Vietnam became a successful trip, with his limitations and riskiness first. Plus, he went to a local event as IShowSpeed had taken part with Gumball 3000 rally, celebrates its 25th anniversary. And wrapping last via motor bike, comparing to commute here in the Philippines, he will be staying at Landmark 81 hotel to end the night out, leaving for serving a Vietnamese noodle soup dish called 'Pho', along with a slow hit songs LIVE on YouTube for one night only.
In general, IShowSpeed's tour across South East Asia will run till the end of September this year, and resumes travel safely across the region in one continent place as a whole, and with the highest respect for cultures and fans.
As 'IShowSpeed' continues his enthralling exploration of this said continent-wide tour, there are more exciting LIVE streams, set to emanate from his YouTube channel, as he shares such rich cultures and experiences of the region. The tour itself is testament to the global impact online content creators leave in building passionate communities across the borders.

Wonders of Cebu: Being a Cebuano for Five Days
Tumblr media
(Taken: December 25, 2019)
The 23rd of December, 2019. I am packing, the same time my heart is full of excitement. I got a chance to see this place rich in history, where the most significant happenings occurred. The inner historian/ in me was like a bird, sitting on cloud nine, waiting to see the wonders of Cebu.
On the morning of the 24th, we went straight to the terminal and rode for an hour towards another terminal in Koronadal City where a passenger bus directly goes to the airport. When we arrived at the airport, I was greeted by fields of grass and wild little yellow flowers dancing in the breeze on a sunny day. Of course, what do I expect from Gensan, this city is like Venus occluded by a very bright and hot sun.
I was overwhelmed, even though it was my third time flying. While in the boarding area, I saw the news, that a typhoon has yet to hit Cebu, but I didn’t mind. No typhoon can stop me to go there. I am not unsure where we will be going in Cebu, cause I've searched the best places already.
I am overjoyed and can't wait to board a plane for my first flight on this wonderful Visayas island. It was one of my first attempts. I used to scroll through social media, wondering if I could ever step onto these great wonders, and now I am living my dream. It wasn't really planned for me to join my grandparents at a grand reunion of our clan, who are originally Cebuano-blooded people, but my aunt backed me with a two-way ticket. But what I really want to do is see Cebu's appearance with my own two eyes and feel what it's like to be a Cebuano for five days.
The sky is a big golden place while the plane is taking off from GenSan. I couldn't wait anymore. It was already 6 in the evening, the plane is racing with these mad thunderous clouds pouring rain on the Visayan waters. Turbulence occurred, and after that, I saw white lights on these long lanes of skylines. We are now heading to the Queen City of The South! “Welcome to Mactan-Cebu International Airport,” The airport crews are cheerfully greeting us in the Cebuano way. I've been getting a Sinulog vibe since I stepped off the plane. The airport is so grand that it's no surprise it was named one of the best in the world. As we drove away from the airport, the road was lined with flashing lanterns and Christmas decorations. Many people queue to buy Lechon. It's Christmas Eve. As we are near the house where we would be eating, we passed a church full of people praying because the next day is the day of the birth of Jesus. Here, I realized the depth of their religious faith.
We entered through a relative's house. They've already begun preparing for Noche Buena. We were invited to the dinner.  I am ecstatic because, regardless of our religion or beliefs, I am pleased that I have experienced the traditions of others. We joyfully greeted the twelve o'clock midnight signaling the arrival of Christmas. Neighbors were shouting and singing, and we were playing their catchy games. We returned to the hotel after our visit, and I noticed a sign commemorating the 500th anniversary of the "Victory and Mactan" celebration, so I decided we would go there the next day.

We went to Lapulapu Shrine on Christmas Day. As I enter the park, I notice a large number of people selling locally made guitars. I immediately noticed the massive monument to the first hero, which represents the courage and wisdom of our Filipinos. The shore where their fight with the foreign men took place can be seen in the background. I remembered what I had learned in school back then: the courage instilled by Lapulapu is a power that cannot be taken away from Filipinos. A great battalion making a sacrifice for a great land. When we were leaving, I remembered that Cebu had one of the world's largest malls.
I immediately invite my family to accompany me. A view of the tall stick-like building in the middle of the mall can be seen in the distance. In front of it is a large cube, a symbol of the city's modernization. When I went inside, I was astounded by the size and number of shops in that area. A large Christmas Tree stands in the middle of the mall, while a choir sings Christmas songs. What a wonderful celebration. Even though I am in a tropical location, I feel the chill of winter.

(Taken: December 26, 2019)
Our Cebuano friend invited us to explore the city's upper reaches. We went to a very popular tourist attraction. This is the Temple of Leah. When we went up, I felt the temple's distinct presence. The scene is a massive Athens with a bird's-eye view of Cebu's landscape. Inside is a sculpture of a woman, which I believe is the image of the temple's namesake. There is so much magnificence on every corner that I felt as if I were in a Greek movie.
It was the day of our Reunion, but the location where we were celebrating had been destroyed by the typhoon. Some people celebrated Christmas in their unroofed homes. We slept there one day and were grateful when the power was restored to the area. As we walked around the community, I noticed that even though the people were devastated, they were happy because they were recovering from the disaster. This reminds me of another trait we have, no matter what tragedy befalls us, we remain steadfast and never give up on life.
Our reunion took place the next day, and we spent the day in the middle of the broken road. It was a lively celebration in a destructed situation. We celebrated in a dilapidated gymnasium, exchanging sentiments and gathering and collecting good memories. Despite the bad circumstances, we were all joyful.
This place gave me several firsts. Because of the happenings during these five days of adventure, I feel as if I've been here for a year. Noche Buena, visiting a historical park, a massive mall, a European-inspired site, and even witnessing typhoon aftermath. One idea that I would keep in mind is that in every place, there is the uniqueness that you will only discover if you see it for yourself. It was a one-of-a-kind memory to be treasured.

GenSan tightens health screening in entry points
#PHnews: GenSan tightens health screening in entry points
GENERAL SANTOS CITY – The city government has tightened the screening process for passengers arriving at the city international airport and other entry points here in the wake of the removal of the quarantine requirement for travelers and returning residents.
Mayor Ronnel Rivera said Wednesday they have assigned additional teams to ensure that all individuals entering the city are properly documented and assessed as part of the precautionary measures.
He reiterated that only the passengers that would be able to present valid negative test results for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) through antigen or reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing would be allowed to enter the area.
“We’re still under a pandemic so rest assured that we are not letting our guards down,” he said in a press conference.
Rivera said those that would fail the health screening or manifest suspected symptoms of Covid-19 will be isolated and properly monitored.
He said the local government, through the City Inter-Agency Task Force (CIATF) for the Management of Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases, is closely monitoring the situation for possible adjustments to the prevailing protocols.
This includes their possible impact on the area’s Covid-19 status and the overall compliance of concerned residents, he said.
The city government, through Executive Order No. 10 issued by the mayor, scrapped the quarantine requirement for returning residents and travelers effective last Monday in compliance with Resolution No. 101 of the national IATF.
The measure, which provides for the uniform travel protocols for local government units, also removed the travel authority and medical certificate requirements.
Dr. Lobert Padua, infectious diseases specialist and CIATF consultant, said they are continuously evaluating the area’s situation, especially the risk level on the possible spread of the mutant strains of Covid-19.
Among their consideration is the imposition of mandatory 14-day quarantine for returning OFWs and travelers from countries with increasing cases of the Covid-19 variants, he said.
The city has not yet recorded any case so far of the four disease variants that were already detected in other parts of the country.
“The 14-day quarantine is important since it usually takes two weeks for the genome sequencing results to come out and based on our experience, Covid-19 symptoms of those infected could still develop after seven or 10 days,” he said.
Rivera assured that they are taking note of these observations and ready to implement the necessary adjustments if necessary.
“In a worst case scenario, in case there will be another surge of Covid-19 cases, we might recall our previous measures, including the quarantine protocol. But going back to another lockdown will be our last resort,” he said.
As of Tuesday night, the confirmed Covid-19 cases in the city already reached a total of 2,088, with 83 related deaths, but 1,947 of the patients have fully recovered.
The active cases in the area have so far dropped to 58, the lowest since the surge in September last year, as the recorded infections continued to slow down in the past several days. (PNA)

A Day To Remember
by: Michelle Villareal
Manila, also known as the Pearl of the Orient, is located in Southern Luzon, the largest with more than 7,000 islands that make up the nation known as the Philippines. Manila serves not only as the country's capitol, but also as its financial, publishing, and business center. The citizens of the city speak Tagalog, but most are also fluent in English which is the language used in public schools. Manila is also known in its scenic landmarks and famous structure like the Intramuros, Fort Santiago and St. Augustine Church still are good examples of Spanish colonial architecture. It still has many to offer, and showcase the country's diverse tourist attractions and its culture.
This happened 4 years ago when I was in 8th Grade. Mom availed a promo where the tickets are cheaper than its original price, so she immediately grabbed the opportunity for our 3 days vacay in Manila. I know it’s not too long because we still have classes and mom still on duty but at least we experienced something that we want to long ago and it finally came. We went at the General Santos International Airport six hours before the flight, that’s how early mom woke us up to prepare everything but it didn’t bother me though because I can’t contain my excitement. Mom used to be late in every gathering she attended but this time, she woke up early than the rooster whose about to crow. She complained at everything asking why we prepare so slow like mom calm your tits, we still have plenty of hours. Anyways, it was my first time at the airport and nothing can compare the excitement I felt when I saw an actual airplane outside like my mind was about to explode, still can’t believe that I’ll be riding one of those. Mom prepared everything, both the tickets and some stuff. We waited at the departure waiting area for our plane. Later on, the bad news came that lose all my vibe. Our flight got cancelled due to I don’t know maybe that’s how airport works? It’s 11 am in the morning and we have to stay there until 6 pm, what will I supposed to do the whole duration then? So, fast forward, the time has finally begun. I took a picture a lot while heading on our designated airplane, I was a young childish kid back then where I wanted to make others envy on me posting photos on media captioned “manila here I come” with bunch of emoticons, how embarrassing it was. I seated beside the window and also my mom, while my brother Noli was at the back of our seat, don’t mind him, it’s okay with him. When we arrived, it was dark outside, I think it’s about 8 pm. I lose all my excitement because I was so tired that my body badly needs sleep. Tall buildings, restaurants, landmarks, I don’t care about them all, I can’t even open my eyes wide when I saw a handsome man. We arrived in my uncle’s place in Cavite at 1 am in the morning due to traffic, I can’t imagine myself living here. I immediately dived in bed and fell asleep really quick without bothering to change clothes. Day 1, our first stop was Intramuros where we visited my uncle Joseph in San Agustin Church, he’s a priest in there as you all see but now, he’s in heaven serving God, not worrying about anything, and I’m happy for it. My uncle dodo and uncle Joseph was our tour guide, uncle Joseph hired a Kalesa to roam us around in Intramuros. We took a lot of pictures in every destination. The Kalesa driver shared a history to some houses and landmarks that colonized by the Spaniards which is a mind blown information. We had our lunch in a fancy restaurant but I only ate fried chicken because I can’t even pronounce a name on the menu. Uncle Joseph gave us budget for the Star City experienced, mom hesitate but you know uncle, he’s willing to give everything he has for the sake of our happiness. While waiting for the taxi, I can’t stop hugging my uncle thinking that was my last hug with him. Those last words he said that I should study really hard in class, I promise that I will make him proud of my achievements, I just missed him so much. When we took a taxi, I waved good bye at him for the last time slowly as he disappeared out of my sight. We went to Star City, mom bought a ticket and when we get in there, I’m out of words. We wanted to try all the rides since mom bought a ticket said that we can avail all but it’s crowded and my feet hurts so bad. We decided to have some dinner at MOA since it’s walking distance and went home because it’s late and it’s hard to commute due to traffic.
Day 2, we went to Makati where my cousins and uncle lived, we bring some of our clothes because they insisted to sleep there before we go back here in Koronadal. I was so tired during the trip because we took maybe three or four public vehicles plus the waiting time just to get in their place. For the first time, I met my cousins, Cherie and Christine, I don’t know how to interact with them because my skills in socializing and my self-esteem suddenly falls back to zero, they look so pretty while I look shit. We arrived there maybe 5 pm, we had our little dinner and a small talk but I didn’t bother to talk because I don’t know, I’m too shy, or I just don’t know how to speak Tagalog.
Day 3, we woke up early in the morning to pack our things up, we ate breakfast and we took a ride at my uncle's work place. We don't have much time to roam around in Makati with my cousins because our flight will be at 3 am in the morning so we have to be at the airport hours before the flight. We say good bye to each other awkwardly because we barely talk like she asked questions, I answered, and that's it, end of conversation. When we arrived at my uncle's work place, we looked for a food to eat since its lunch time. I don't blame the city for being the busiest, if you have to come early at your work, you have to wake up early considering the time you travel and the traffic. Mom decided to eat somewhere else whatever we passed by. We took a ride at the train station which was super cool. We took our lunch near at the station, it’s just a small restaurant, not that fancy but cheap. We had soup, a dessert and some drinks. After we ate, I decided to roam at the station since mom and uncle was still talking. So, I was roaming and guess what my just saw, a Korean Pop store. I was lowkey freaking out and I can't handle my excitement when i saw bunch of albums, photocards, and some Korean Pop merchandise. I ran to my mom and asked for money, she hesitated at first but I just can’t, I have to buy at least one, she gave me I think one hundred. I bought a photocard of my favorite girl group and I can’t stop smiling all the time as we go. We arrived at the Airport, still have plenty of time since our flight will be 3 am. We took a rest where the passengers wait, I sleep a little because I was so tired after the long duration walking. Mom woke me up when we have to be in the departure area, I bought a snack first and we go in our flight.
We arrived at the Gensan International Airport early in the morning, I don’t know what time is it because I didn’t bother to check my watch. We headed home, took a sleep and I remember I told myself to wake up before lunch time because I had to attend class in the afternoon but ended up late so I had no choice but to continue sleeping. This was my first-time experiencing Manila and I was beyond happy and didn’t regret being absent in class for three days in a row. I hope it will not be our last.
