“(y/n)!!!” a familiar voice calls and the volume gets louder as he comes closer to where you stand. promptly, your hand covered your face when you meet the bewildered eyes of your juniors who are looking at him striding towards you. second-hand embarrassment clouded your thoughts as you let out muffled chuckles, peeking between your fingers as his giant figure entered your vicinity. the juniors scurried away with a terrified look in their eyes from his maniacal, evil witch-sounding giggle that bounced on the hallway's concrete walls before he stood next to you.

“stop it, i’m so freaking embarrassed.” you punch his chest as he pouted, wiping your face to smooth down your facial muscles. the lines on his face turned downwards. he looks so offended, holding the area that you hit as he lets out fake sniffs.

“you hurt me, (y/n)!" he lets out a pout. "why aren’t you excited to see me?” he said sarcastically, fists beside his waist as he sulks playfully.

“cause she saw you all the time, kai.”

you pivot towards the source and spot taehyun. his black hair accented his icy demeanor that pierced through his expression, striding to where you both stood. his hand holding onto the only strap slung over his shoulder as he rolled his eyes and grinned, hearing hueningkai sigh behind you.

“i swear, you’ve been using that face all the time that it scared me so much if you’re furious with me,” kai said as you stood in front of your locker to glance at both of them clearly.

“of course, i’m not angry. especially to both of you,” taehyun replied as he stood beside hueningkai. the height difference between the two always makes you giggle. you always imagined taehyun to be the taller of the two. but hyuka and his mixed blood said otherwise as you continue, leaning your back against the locker where your backpack cushions the impact.

“what, shortie?” kai remarked. you quickly sulk as a reply.

“i’m not that short, average height somewhere in the world. why am i friends with you both?” you mumbled the last part as you pushed away from the locker with your core muscles. kai’s hair is shaped like a mushroom because of how straight it is, different from tae who uses a bit of pomade to style his hair.

“cause we’re fancy as fuck,” taehyun replied with a smirk as kai nudges in agreement. you give a sheepish smile and a nod as you take the lead for the others to follow you down the hallway.

So I know the trope of final girl is usually in that one lone character defeats the villain, and if there ever is another survivor they’re conveniently incapacitated or offscreen for the final fight. How come there isn’t ever like a ‘power of friendship' moment where a team just comes together and kills the bad guy? Sometimes theres two bad guys and the team splits off to separate them.

The first and more direct answer is: because that's not how horror works. Like for children's horror? Scooby doo and the like? Yeah. But part of the horror of the slasher is losing everyone around you and having to, to quote the meme, do it scared. There's a whole section of the first four Friday movies of the final girl finding all the bodies and becoming increasingly horrified. Doesn't work as well if you have people with her. Its horror and also a power fantasy of being able to defend yourself against anything.

Second and more silly answer: it has happened and its goofy. Freddy's Dead, Friday the 13th: Jason Lives, your average episode of Buffy. Its goofy its silly its Scooby gang. It changes the vibe.

Adding multiple people into the big ending fight often turns the genre from horror to fantasy or action. This is video games and not movies but this is best for the metaphor: lots of fantasy games have big scary horror bosses with your buddies vs the crushing loneliness of your average survival horror game.

Do you ship any of the turtles with anyone? or do you ship anything in rise at all?

Hmmm, I’m not too big a shipper tbh! Especially since I really enjoy canon interactions backing my ships, so it’s hard for me to actively like any that don’t really have that going for them. There’s plenty that I see around that I think are cute, but that’s usually the extent of my thought process for them.

For ships I more actively have, I guess I like AprilxSunita! They’re very very cute and I think they have some huge meet cute energy in their first episode together, and their chemistry is genuinely adorable (plus them being featured means more April screentime which is ALWAYS a good thing.)

I also think AprilxCasey (and when I say Casey I mean our OG girl) is really good, as I’m a sucker for enemies to lovers, and I think they have a lot in common and just bounce off each other very well (not to mention this ship in other iterations of TMNT has a loooooot going for it.)

Keeping the chain going, I think RaphxCasey (again, OG Casey) is also one with a tonnnnn of potential. They have a lot of common characteristics, and considering Raph’s whole thing with Franken-Foot, I really think there’s a lot of room there for a relationship to develop. Plus, like AprilxCasey, Raph and Casey tend to have a close relationship throughout the iterations of TMNT and it would be great to see that more with these two, even if not romantically.

Actually going back to enemies to lovers, I unironically think there’s a ton going for DonniexKendra. I know a lot of people hate this ship, but I don’t and I actually think it could very easily work whether in a love-hate way or a slow burn way. There’s a lot to like here and honestly they’re good together! Kendra is legit Donnie’s type too haha (cute, but mean.)

Lastly, SplinterxDraxum is good…when done right. I really like when people take it and don’t undermine the very real trauma that Splinter has gone through. As I’ve stated a lot, I love me some enemies to lovers, so I can see the potential here. Plus lbr Draxum was down BAD for Lou Jitsu when he first saw him haha.

I think that’s the extent to what I actively like? Everything else usually falls into “aw cute” or “ehhh not for me thanks”. And before you ask YES leosagi is cute and I’ll read fics with it if the premise is appealing, but I’m afraid I need some canon interactions to establish base character dynamics before I actively ship it alas.😔 Super cute though, no hate to it or any of the other CanonxCharacter-they’ve-never-met ships, I genuinely think people should just have fun! And for what it’s worth I really do wish we got a Usagi and Leo interaction in Rise like we have in other iterations.:(

So yeah. Overall, I have a few ships I enjoy, but I fall much more in the “prefer to keep everyone to themselves and make the focus family and friendship” category.

In Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream, Helena eloquently describes her friendship with Hermia in the third act: "So we grew together, / Like to a double cherry . . . / Two lovely berries moulded on one stem."

Like many Americans of his time, Allston was educated in the classics. He painted Hermia and Helena in England when the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge was reviving Shakespeare's plays. A friend of Allston's, Coleridge felt that Shakespeare expressed human sentiment perfectly.

i see all the headcanons about tommy being an occasional/former smoker and want to combine them with the idea that chimney got his nickname due to smoking. the two of them gradually becoming friends while they're both outside taking a smoke break; at first it's convenience, the only two smokers at the 118, and if they talk at all, it's light small talk. but after a bad call - chimney had a patient die in his care - they're both outside, and chim's fumbling hard with his lighter. tommy hesitates, but says 'let me,' and lights it for him. after that first couple hits of nicotine, chimney's nerves settling and hands stilling, he says 'i was right there - i was right there and she was telling me about her mother. that she's an only child.' and tommy, still trying to hold parts of himself back, surprises himself by saying 'i've been there, too,' and he's telling chimney about. well. he thinks what's coming out his mouth is going to be about the army. but the thoughts changes coming off his tongue, and it's about his mom, and the hardship discharge he got to take care of her. and both of them know it's not going to fix anything, but speaking that into the night air, words and smoke rising; it feels little lighter.
