Beautiful Creatures Scenes I think about a lot
1. When Lena and Ethan skip school to go make out at the water tower. Its just so telling to how much she wants to be normal, she wants to skip school with her boyfriend to mess around, she wants be happy and live her life without her powers messing it up. How she doesn't even get this one thing because of the locket and how Genevieve and Ethan Carters story needs to be shown to them.
2. When Liv tells Ethan about how casters see different skies, and he gets to feel the full weight of how different he and Lena were, that they don't even have the same stars? I don't know this just feels so significant to me
3. When Lena, John, and Ridley make the maggots spill out of all the pies at the fair and nearly five great aunt Grace a heart attack
4. The first locket scene honestly and how Genevieve is so focused on the smell of the burning lemons.
5. When Ethan Carter is talking about how hes a deserter, and howw he understands if she doesn't love him because of his lack of honor and Gen fires back like "You're the most honorable man I know, standing for your true beliefs. " SOBBING
6. Prudence just being in the tunnels?? And apologizing to the cat for calling her a deserter?? And also shit talking Mercy and Grace for being gossips??? I love you 100 year old woman
7. Amma stopping time at thanksgiving to have a talk with Lena; and the scene during the claiming where they're again the only ones time doesn't stop for.
8. Lenas grandma scolding Macon for keeping them apart because Ethan just being there protects her more than the house.
9. The window scene honestly
10. The end of chaos and the beginning of redemption?? Just like in general??

Such a fucking weird film. And not in a good way. And I’m still 90% sure all the Brits in the cast needed a quick pay check

Excerpt from Beautiful Creatures
“In all my life I never seen the likes a devils like that. Burnin’ a house with women in it. Every one a them will have to answer to God Almighty Himself in the hereafter.” Ivy’s voice faltered. Genevieve felt her legs buckle beneath her. She knelt in the mud, the rain running down her face, mixing with her tears. Her mother, her sister, Greenbrier-they were all gone. Genevieve looked up at the sky. “God’s the one who’s goin’ to have to answer to me.”

Beautiful Creatures Section Three
11.27 Just Your Average American Holiday - 12.19 White Christmas
1. What was Amma able to ask the Greats to assist her with at Thanksgiving? What did Amma want to tell Lena? She asked the Greats, or specifically Aunt Delilah, to help her with a Time Bind. So everyone froze except Lena and Amma so they could have a lady chat. Except Ethan could also hear everything because of his connection with Lena. Amma wanted to tell Lena what Macon wouldn't: that not only is her mother alive but she's Sarafine. The Sarafine who tried to kill Lena on Halloween. Amma says she's the Darkest Caster alive. It's true that Lena's dad died, though. But everyone also said Lena's mom died ~to protect her. But Amma thinks she needs to know the truth. And she tells her to wear the bracelet because it will protect her. Oh and Amma is telling her this because she's trying to protect Ethan. She says that Lena and Ethan just aren't meant to be.
2. When Ethan and Lena visit the Caster Library for the first time, what flashback do they have of Genevieve and Ethan? What do we learn about the fate of the Duchannes? They discover that Ethan came back for two seconds, gave Genevieve the locket and then died again. But Genevieve had tried to use Dark magic to bring him back so her eyes changed from green to yellow with cat slugs in the middle, like Ridley's. Ivy says it's because Genevieve Turned. She was claimed by the Dark. Because you can't use the book without giving something back. She also cursed her entire line. Because of her, the entire Duchannes line is now cursed and on their sixteenth birthday, the Book will choose them for either Light or Dark.
3. What does Ethan suggest to Marian, Macon, and Amma regarding reversing the curse on the Duchannes? What does Macon then inform him about The Book of Moons? Ethan suggest they find the Book of Moons and use it to break the curse since it started the curse. He asks Marian for the Book and she's Bound to tell him. But she says it isn't in the library. Macon says that's because it's been missing for over a hundred years.
4. In what way does Aunt Del assist in getting The Book of Moons back? Why aren’t Aunt Del and Reece going to tell anyone about what occured in the graveyard? Because Aunt Del can see time, she can look into the past and tell what occurred in a place. But she can also show this to other people. It isn't super pleasant for the other people but it's sometimes super helpful. So she shows Lena, Ethan & Reece that the book was, indeed, buried with Genevieve. That way they don't have to dig up the grave unless they have to. And when they do find it, Aunt Del and Reece basically freak out when Lena says she isn't going to tell Macon she has it. But then Lena holds up the book and looks at them intently and in a few minutes, they start talking like the book didn't exist. Lena tells Ethan that she's been practicing small things with Macon. So she erased the book from their memories so, in their reality, Lena never found it. So now they won't tell Macon that she has it.
5. How does Reece describe the Claiming? Reece says you just change. She says it happens in a second: like a heartbeat. You feel this energy, this power moving through your body, almost like you're coming to life for the first time. Reece also described it as an overwhelming warmth, like the sun is shining on you and no one else. And in that moment, you just know which path has been chosen for you.
6. What happens at the winter formal? How does Macon know about what happened even though he was at home the whole night? So everyone is terrible to Lena, as expected *sigh* and they pull a Carrie and replace the snow that's supposed to fall for pictures with some gloppy mush. And Ridley also shows up as Link's date. She takes on look at Lena and then decides to absolutely destroy the place. First, though, she tears the dress of one of the mean girls, revealing her giant granny panties. Then Ridley knocks down the decorations, explodes light bulbs and turns on the sprinklers. This causes Emily to slip, fall and break her leg. So literal mayhem. And when Ethan takes Macon home, Macon knows all about it. He reveals that it's because Boo saw everything that happened and Boo isn't an ordinary dog. He's a Caster dog and he's tied to Macon. What he sees, Macon sees (which is why Boo follows Lena EVERYWHERE). And what Macon sees Boo sees. And Ethan realizes that he should've suspected all along. Boo has Macon's eyes.
7. What happened at the meeting of the town to discuss Lena’s expulsion from school? As suspected, it is a total witch hunt. Mrs. Lincoln is leading the thing and saying there are all these witnesses who saw Lena blow out the window in English and pull the fire alarm at the dance. And she says she got Lena's records from her old school and she has a history of violence. She says that it was an institution and Lena is bipolar. She says that's hereditary and her mother suffered the same affliction. She says that her mother also murdered her father. And just as the principal is about to rule against Lena, the wind blows in Macon, Marian and Boo. And Macon starts airing all the towns dirty little secrets and threatening to use his influence and money to change things. And he says that expelling Lena would be ill advised. And after he reveals that the principal is having an affair, the principal decides that Lena's case should be revisited because there are some inconsistencies. So she gets to stay in school, much to Mrs. Lincoln's dismay.
8. After getting inside Ethan’s dad’s office, what message do Ethan and Lena believe Ethan’s mom is trying to convey to them? So some of the books fall off the shelves and they open to certain pages and when you try to turn the pages, they just turn back. So Ethan and Lena start looking at the pages but they aren't anything useful? Lena suggests it's a code but Ethan says his mom was a writer, she didn't like math. But then he remembers that his mom used to let him make up codes to keep him occupied. So they realize the page numbers correspond with letters of the alphabet. When they've deciphered the code, Ethan says it looks like it's for Lena. It says: Claim Yourself
Section Three Reading Journal
So work was soooo slow today and I ended up reading this entire section and answering all the questions at work. (So I got paid to do the thing I wanted to stay home and do, haha.) So I’m really glad I had this book to keep me company today!! And this section was reaaaaally good.
The Sisters are my absolute favorite. I loved the squirrels they adopted and went to the library to read on the internet how to take care of them. I was dyyyyying during that part. SO FUNNY. And the Sisters playing Scrabble at Thanksgiving! That was also hilarious.
I loved the background in this section and finally seeing the fate of Ethan and Genevieve. And finally learning exactly how the curse was created and even how it actually works? It’s interesting that it’s the book that decides between Light and Dark.
So I’m honestly really loving this book and this whole world. I can’t believe I’m almost done! I am absolutely flying through this one!! But I can’t wait to read the last section and see how this all turns out!

Beautiful Creatures Section Three
SO as I have stated in the book club’s post of this section, I am truly adoring this book. Like even though I’m running on 3 hours of sleep from last night, I’m kind of like “should I stay up and finish this??” Why the heck not. I will post update. But I will say that I’m not a huge fan of the way they put “a” for “of” to make it seem like some super country accent, when in reality it’s just annoying. Haha.
11.27 Just Your Average American Holiday - 12.19 White Christmas
1. What was Amma able to ask the Greats to assist her with at Thanksgiving? What did Amma want to tell Lena? They froze the room in time. Every single person was still in the room including Ethan, but he could still hear their conversation. Amma wanted to be able to tell Lena in private how her mother Serafine is the darkest caster, and apaprently, she’s “coming for Lena”. Lena even though her mom was dead. 2. When Ethan and Lena visit the Caster Library for the first time, what flashback do they have of Genevieve and Ethan? What do we learn about the fate of the Duchannes? They have a vision of Genevieve holding Ethan’s dead body, and then attempting to bring him back to life by reading a Cast from The Book of Moons. Ethan revives for 2 seconds and then dies again. Lena then feels a violent shock, and her eyes turn yellow and cat like. We find out because she used the Book, she traded in giving something herself for having using a Cast from the book, and that would be that all Duchannes would go Dark. When Lena asks Ivy if ALL Duchannes will go go Dark, she said not all will, and the Book will still decide who will so Lena still has a chance. 3. What does Ethan suggest to Marian, Macon, and Amma regarding reversing the curse on the Duchannes? What does Macon then inform him about The Book of Moons? He says that if the curse was placed on them by stuff in the book, they should be able to reverse it from something that’s in the book, as well. Macon then tells the group the book has been missing for 100 years. 4. In what way does Aunt Del assist in getting The Book of Moons back? Why aren’t Aunt Del and Reece going to tell anyone about what occured in the graveyard? The pair gets Aunt Del to take them by saying they had a school project, but Reece ended up finding out that she was lying by looking in her eyes. They wanted to gig in Genevieve’s grave because they felt pulled that it had been buried with her. While digging, they had the idea for Aunt Del to use her powers to see if the Book was down there. She did, and they found out the book was in fact buried with Genevieve, so they retrieved it. Reece was threatening to tell Macon about how the school project was a lie and that they dug for The Book of Moons, but Lena used her newly practiced magic to let that memory of what happened at the graveyard disappear completely from their minds. 5. How does Reece describe the Claiming? She said she felt like the sun was shining down on her, and only her. And in that moment, she just knew she was on the exact right path she was supposed to be on. 6. What happens at the winter formal? How does Macon know about what happened even though he was at home the whole night? Emily and Savannah, and the rest of the “angel” group, mixed water with the fake snow for the pictures, and dumped it on Lena so her dress and hair were ruined, and she was so embarrassed. Because Link brought Ridley as his date, and Ridley saw the ordeal happen, she got back at them the girls because Lena would not. She made one girl rip her pants and her underwear showed, she made the circuits and basically all things electricity start popping one by one and blowing. Because of this, the sprinklers were released, drenching everything which not only was a fire hazard, but made one of the girls slip off the stage and break her leg. Macon knows about the whole situation before Lena even gets home, because we learn that Boo, the dog that is constantly running around town and basically EVERYWHERE, is actually a Caster as well. And in fact, Macon’s eyes to be everywhere and see what’s going on. 7. What happened at the meeting of the town to discuss Lena’s expulsion from school? All the annoying DAR women were talking about this “proof” they have of Lena being a bad person and why she should be expelled. They even bringn up how she’s bipolar, just like her mother. Mrs. Lincoln even claims Lena’s mother killed her father. Macon ends up making an appearance, and he brings Marian. Macon says enough to scare the women that they change their minds, and Lena is able to stay at the school. 8. After getting inside Ethan’s dad’s office, what message do Ethan and Lena believe Ethan’s mom is trying to convey to them? After doing some decoding of the message in the books/notebooks scattered all over the room, they believe the message is “Claim Yourself”.

it came to my attention that rachel fucking brosnahan played genevieve duchannes in the beautful creatures movie just now and i was like.... hm. she wouldn’t make a bad sarafine fc actually. and then i was like “well actually surely she’s too young” but actually only by about 5 years which isn’t a huge visual difference in your 30′s
#i always forget sarafine is like a baby. well not a baby but like. a baby by 'evil mom' standards because she had lena so young#anyways i dont know if i actually would switch her fc because shes been rachel weisz in my mind for SO LONG but

keisha castle-hughes as ridley maybe? she's a bit on the older side though, so if she doesn't work for ridley, she could always be a caster cousin? aaah that meet cute between reece and liv! i love it so much. also lmao at ryan and lena in the background. speaking of ryan (teilor grubbs is 16 now but her circa hawaii 5-0 could have worked as ryan): i feel like everyone would love her a ton. also, vaitiaré hirshon or shannyn sossamon as lena's mom? and rena owen as lena's ancestor?
also edit: david strathairn is a 10/10 pick for macon. i agree 100000%!
I was so wow-ed when I saw him because he looks like Macon stepped out of the books.
Keisha could work as Ridley, or maybe Genevieve? Something about her, maybe just the way she’s posing in some of the photos, makes me feel like she could be Genevieve. I feel like Ridley would be 20-21.
I did search Teilor and was so bummed when she was too old to be Ryan. Although maybe if we’re fudging up ages, Ryan would be 12-13? I did think Allison Fernandez if we had gone the Latina!Duchannes route.... Though my headcanon in the books was Ryan was adopted (sidenote Garcia and Stohl what was up with Ryan?) so maybe she could be Latina?
Shannyn looks like a great Sarafine. And I was thinking.... Queen Latifah as Amma (if she isn’t too famous). She just gives off such a fun aunt vibe that Amma had with Ethan.
God I’m so stoked for this TV show that is not happening at all!
