Hello!
I would like to request a short fic about how Alastor's and Reader's wedding night would look like. Reader can be afab or gender neutral. Thank you in advance! 💖
Wedding Night (Alastor One-Shot)
You were basically pacing in your dress, nervous as hell for whats to come. Charlie and Vaggie watched you, their bridesmaids gowns pooling at their feet. Angel Dust was in and out of both your room and Alastor's.
When it came time to actually walk down the aisle you were basically shaking. But seeing your deer demon at the end, made it all worth it. He was in all black, save for his tie which was in his signature red. His hair was tied back, his fringe still hanging in front of his face. After you vows, he dips you, kissing you sweetly.
At the reception, he danced with you every waking moment he got. Assuming you are a millennial/gen z, you, Vaggie, Charlie and Angel would more likely dance to your generations music, while he would lovingly watch you have the time of your afterlife.
But when his generation of music came on, oof, youre dancing with him. The whole time hes whispering sweet nothings to you, telling you how much he loves you.
After the reception you both head back to his home in the woods. I am unsure if he would *ahem* consumate the marriage. I am aware he is asexual, and doesn't care to be touched but he is also a traditional man. So I will leave that to your imagination ;)

Have you watched my big fat greek wedding?
Watching My Big Fat Greek Wedding at least once was basically a cultural must for Greeks, from baby boomers to maybe even early gen Z-ers. Not that people older than boomers wouldn't watch it, it's just that boomers were the first generation fully comfortable with using a TV. Even if your family didn't buy the vhs/dvd, the film plays like every year on the TV since it came out so it's really, really hard to miss.
I have fond memories of watching it but I haven't watched it full in many years so I have no idea if it's aged badly XD
I can't talk about the accuracy of the film, since it focuses on Greek immigrants (now why some of those immigrants are played by Italian actors is fucking beyond me) and I haven't lived away from Greece, but I can guess that because those people live away from Greece, they may tend to overdo it on the traditions. Like, the wedding itself is pretty accurate, though maybe a little exaggerated for mainland Greek standards. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding with multiple bridesmaids who also wore matching dresses, and I've been to quite a few weddings. But again, it's the abundant appliance of traditions mixed with whatever American traditions the family picked up during their integration, so from that standpoint it may make sense. Idk. I haven't attended any weddings abroad XD
The parents are quite accurate, though. The father going like "Get married, make babies" is 100% overbearing parent of that generation, though it's usually the mothers doing that. The big ass family tree with multiple cousins with the same name is also accurate - my brother shares his name with two of our cousins, and my sister with one. The reason for that is that, at least up until late millenials, babies were named after one of their grandparents. So if a grandparent had three children and all of them had kids, there would be a chance that they'd have three grandchildren with their name (and we tend to have male and female versions of the same name, so you can be called Konstantinos and have a granddaughter named Konstantina). It's still kept as a tradition today but not as much as in earlier years.
Overall the film is pretty close to the average Greek's worldview, though again, influenced by the first generation immigrating to another country far away.
That said, in our family we quote "He's a xeno!" and "Ine keki mori (It's a cake, you dumb) / Ah! It's a KEK!" all the time.
Wait, no, edit: Because I need to say this, when Toula's brothers trick Ian into shouting in front of everyone "I have three balls", the word he uses in Greek is a heavy swear word for "balls". Like, we also have euphemisms like that that may be used for lighter occasions, but the "αρχίδια" that he says is the equivalent of saying "dick" rather than "penis". At least the way I view it, maybe "balls" in that context is heavy, but like, it's pretty much of a potty mouth to say "αρχίδια" and it looks weird for it to be simply translated as "balls" XD

gen Z hollywood actor bios be like:
she was born in malibu to an 80s supermodel and an investment banker and grew up dividing time between the family farmhouse in santa barbara & the beach house in malibu. her brother is a surfer & phone case designer. she was discovered by tatiana russo, the esteemed modelling scout, who is also her godmother, when she was 12 at her family's vineyard whilst celebrating kate moss' birthday and despite her early start in modelling, her true passion lay in acting as influenced by childhoods spent with "uncle" George Clooney. childhood pal and fellow model, juliette rockefeller describes her as "the biggest nerd and the sweetest person alive". they were both bridesmaids at Olivia Getty's 70s themed wedding to Dipping Hearts frontman Gus Saint Jerome. she's currently dating Jeff Scott Vanderbilt, model, crypto investor and heir to the Vanderbilt fortune. if she wasn't an actress/model, she would've liked to have become a 'wildlife photographer' and is deeply passionate about her ig book club where she recently read Normal People with her 26.8 million followers and went on live discussing it with fellow creative & bestie, Fai Khadra.

100 reasons to stay
It’s becoming harder for me to stay grounded these days, something difficult rose up within me and re-triggered all those fearful feelings I’ve been trying to stomach my whole life. Feelings so big and so raw that more often than not, I feel debilitated from a viable solution that will sustain my light. And so as I am fighting through this, the battle to keep my mind needs reminders of why. There are a million reasons to stay…Here is the short list.
There are versions of me that want to be experienced in the future. I won’t be able to know anything about them unless I stay. 💃🏾🙋🏾‍♀️🙆🏾‍♀️💁🏾‍♀️
I haven’t gone to all the concerts and heard all the music I want to hear live. 🎤 🎶
I haven’t bought a leather sectional to take naps on in my cute little forever home. 🛋️
I haven’t bought my cute little forever home. 🏡
I’ve never been to Niagara Falls, the Great Wall of China, or the Taj Mahal. There is so much out there to see both domestic and abroad. ✈️ 🏔️
There are more people I need to love and be loved by, my two little girls included. 👧🏿 👧🏿
My granny can’t take another heartbreak. 👵🏾 💔
My mother can’t take the heartbreak of my absence. 👩🏽 💔
The place where I am meant to be professionally, spiritually, and physically depends on my presence. 📍
I have a lot of Tubi movies left to watch. 🍿
There’s a lot of delicious food I haven’t tasted. 🍴
The feeling of sweet glorious redemption from getting my joy back refined will only happen if I stay. And my joy has always returned. 🌊
I came here for a reason. I was kept here for a reason. I deserve to realize what that reason is. 💭
I’m a kind and pure heart. There is so much need for my heart type in this world. 🫶🏾
I haven’t laughed enough. There are so many more laughs needed in my lifetime. 😹
I haven’t taken myself on nearly enough dates. I haven’t shown myself enough love yet. 🤎
I want to learn ceramics and I’ve never taken any classes. 🏺
The world is changing in some interesting ways, there could be some cool stuff waiting in the future to witness. 🌎
These gen Z kids are turning the world in ways that could be to the benefit of society. I’ll have to stick around to see how much better the world could be because of them. ☮️
I haven’t read enough books yet. 📚
I haven’t read enough poems yet. 📝
I haven’t had enough meaningful conversations yet. 🫂
I haven’t danced through enough mornings. ⛅️
I haven’t sang through enough evenings. 🚿
I haven’t smiled enough at all the beautiful things, like the sun and the moon and breath and freedom and Divine love. 🌚
I haven’t worn enough bathing suits and journaled on the beach. 👙
I haven’t drank enough water. Have to stay for the sake of my hydration. 💦
I haven’t made enough generations of my sim families. I owe it to them. 🎮
I haven’t seen my grey hair yet due to aging. 👵🏾
There are too many Charleston secrets that I’ve yet to find. I haven’t even read my book on the Battery yet! ⛲️
I haven’t mastered cooking one great meal yet, and I want to try a lot of recipes. 🥘
I haven’t had enough awesome sex. 🦵🏽
I definitely haven’t seen enough London theater. 🎭
I haven’t been a bridesmaid yet! ⛪️ 👗 💍
I haven’t had enough happy cries. 🥲
I haven’t had enough fun in general. 🎡
I haven’t had enough great coffee. ☕️😋
I haven’t worn my pink timbs yet and it doesn’t get cold until like December/January in SC. 🥶 💖
I probably need more karaoke… 🎤
I need more winters, I think it’s my favorite season. Hot cocoa, sweaters, blankets, and good movies sounds so sentimental. 🪵 🧦 🍵
I need more walks to appreciate God’s beauty. 🌳
I want more tattoos. 🖊️ 🌺 🍃
That feeling of magic that settles in my heart with serotonin swimming through my brain when I’m in flow is my natural state, and I deserve to live there ✨ 🧠
I have many more museums to explore, including revisiting the Charleston museum. 🏛️
I want to be moved by more art. 🧐🖼️
I want more roadtrips and snack stops to random gas stations along the way ⛽️ 🚘
I want to try on more shoes in stores. I never buy shoes. 👠
I want to receive and give long hugs with back rubs. 🧸
I want more beautiful massages. 💆🏾‍♀️
I want to get some facials! 🧖🏾‍♀️
I want to try more restaurants and more mixed drinks. 🍸
Those Marshall and TJ Maxx runs where I’m finding cute mugs and pictures and seeing all the shiny things that releases that dopamine rush…yea, I want more of those moments. Wearing flip flops, feeling that cool store air tickle my thighs in a summer dress while I’m in the purse aisle, nothing quite like it. 🛍️
I want to paint. Even if it’s just me getting a canvas from an art supply store. 🎨
The veil is not thick enough to dissuade me from believing that there is something so beautiful, so patient, so wondrous and gentle about life. And I have a deep resonating feeling that what is waiting for me in this lifetime is incredibly fulfilling. The little things. The moments I could have never bargained for. The reason why I’m alive. It’s actually for good. 😌
I have puzzles I want to compete. 🧩
When I wrote that I am more than just a single lifetime in my lineage, but the silent catalyst for change, that meant that my whole existence is to off-shed those limiting beliefs about my resiliency and to incite generational healing as a lifestyle. ❤️‍🩹
The sound of the rain…against my window pane 😌
The beauty of trees 🌳
Feet planted against the earth reminding me I am one part of the great whole 🌎
Crisp cool fresh sheets 🛌
The cool breeze on a warm day 🌬️
Because dawn always comes after darkness ⛅️ Always.
There are endless possibilities to start over, each bringing something new and exciting. Leaning into the beauty of a fresh start is a privilege that has presented itself to me time and time again 🤍
God always always always shows up for me better than I could ever try to do for myself. And I know that. ☁️
Nights like last night, where I have the privilege of experiencing a soul tribe 🤍✨
Those chik fil a nuggets might not be great for my body, but they are definitely food for the soul. Gotta stay for Chik Fil a sauce girl 🐔
One day I'll become vegan. I don’t know when, but it’ll happen eventually. And I’ll shave my hair, and I’ll rub cocoa butter and Shea butter on my supple skin and wash with black soap 🧼 and be in my true goddess nature. I may even be a true plant mama 🪴
Podcasts have saved my ass. Some of my most comforting moments were remembered during episodes. I have got to hear the latest episodes. Can’t hear them if you I'm not willing to stay. 🎧
Everything is an illusion. Aka...nothing is as serious as it seems ✨
I need to practice my twerking 🍑
There is always a solution to my problem. That’s what life is…chalk full of options. I just have to be willing to explore them. 🕵🏾
Gratitude. Simplistic pure gratitude. For all that I am and will be. For all that I was and have been. For the colorful opportunistic realm of possibilities. Everything is so very possible for me. Life is built in my mind’s eye, manifested in the tangible. 👁️
Because I get the privilege of loving and rooting for my damn self, forever and unapologetically ☝🏾 🖤 🤎 💜 And that’s nobody’s business but my own.
I haven't figured out all of the genres of movies I like, and there are a lot more favorites for me to add to my collection.
I haven't tried to become a mortician or a fiction author yet.
I'm not liberated enough on earth, and I came here to experience freedom. I must find it.
Drives in my sweet Pepper 🖤
Shakespeare Globe Theatre shows in London 🎭 ♥️
Weddings. I love weddings. Especially weddings with line dances.
Ye Old Fashion on Savannah Highway is open late before or after Gaillard performances I can taste their crispy salty fries and try each flavor in their long line of ice creams. Across from the gas station I watch cars pass and imagine a life over there where I could visit anytime I like. Especially when it rains in the night.

round up // APRIL 23
Tumblr media
A selection of words capturing my April pop culture experiences:
Museum
Podcast
Amy Sherman-Palladino
Muppets
Vampire
Nike
American Girl dolls
Read on for everything that brought me joy this month!
April Crowd-Pleasers
Tumblr media
1. Renfield (2023)
Did I write a review of Renfield, an ode to the two Nic(k)s, or analysis of the Great Resignation? Yes, yes, and yes. Read whatever, in fact, I wrote at ZekeFilm. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 7/10
youtube
2. SNL Round Up
Whether they’re spoofing my childhood toys, my young adulthood wedding commitments, or my love for the Jonas Brothers, the crew in Studio 8H has been keeping me laughing this Spring.
“Southwest Airlines Announcement” (4811 with Michael B. Jordan)
“The Big Hollywood Quiz” (4812 with Pedro Pascal) - A great example of how no one watches the same things anymore
“Waking Up” (4812)
“Protective Mom” (4812)
“Lisa From Temecula” (4812)
“American Girl Café” (4814 with Travis Kelce)
“Bridesmaid Cult Documentary” (4816 with Quinta Brunson) - I feel seen
"Weekend Update: Co-Worker Who's Extremely Busy Doing Seemingly Nothing on Returning to the Office” (4817 with Molly Shannon) - I feel attacked
“Sally O'Malley: Jonas Brothers” (4817)
“American Girl Doll Movie Trailer” (4818 with Ana de Armas)
Tumblr media
3. Descanso Gardens
Because I can’t resist a botanical garden! Gardens are becoming a go-to attraction for me on vacations, and the Descanso Gardens in Los Angeles did not disappoint. The day we went was not too crowded but was impressive enough to earn a huge crowd—a hidden gem for LA tourists!
Tumblr media
4. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Panel at PaleyFest
The gardens were lovely, but there were two other attractions that were the real reason for my visit to Los Angeles. The first was PaleyFest to see Amy Sherman-Palladino, Daniel Palladino, and the cast of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel! Just before the fifth and final season started on Amazon Prime, we heard Alex Borstein and Rachel Brosnahan share their mourning process for the show’s ending, Caroline Aaron and Michael Zegen reflect on what these roles have meant to them, and Tony Shalhoub crack up the crowd. (And who knew I would be so starstruck by him? When he came on stage I wanted to scream, “YOU WERE SO GOOD IN GALAXY QUEST!”) Check out SO IT’S A SHOW’s Instagram for more highlights from when my podcast co-host Kyla and I visited the Dolby Theatre (home of the Oscars!).
youtube
4. John Mulaney: Baby J (2023)
A full year ago I saw John Mulaney on his From Scratch tour, and now you can enjoy the set at home. His joke about not being interested in science “from magnets to ducks” did not make the cut (and alas now I can’t remember the setup for that punchline), but the other 90% of a show that made me laugh so hard I cried is preserved forever.
Tumblr media
5. The Muppets. (2015-16)
Why did this gem only last 16 episodes? In this one-season single-cam sitcom, the Muppets are working on Late Night with Miss Piggy, a setting that could’ve produced comedy gold for years. With the frazzled Kermit producing, the Electric Mayhem as the in-studio band, and celebrity guests through the felt nose, I’m glad I checked out these 16 eps even though they ended on a cliffhanger. If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like for Miss Piggy to date Josh Groban or to hold grudges against every blonde actress in Hollywood, you won’t want to miss it either.
Tumblr media
7. Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. (2023)
Special in the way that the best coming-of-age movies are. I suspect Margaret’s insecurities about boys, bras, and besties will feel relatable to Gens Z and Alpha if for no other reason than this movie’s depiction felt scarily accurate to my own experience in the mid-2000s. I promise I will never start a review with the story of my first period ever again! At least, probably—at the rate we're going, it will never be apropos again. Read the full review at ZekeFilm. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 9/10
April Critic Picks
Tumblr media
1. AIR (2023)
Is it controversial to say Matt and Ben’s collabs only get better? If we're playing Greatest/Best/Favorite, this might be my new ranking:
Greatest: Good Will Hunting
Best: The Last Duel
Favorite: AIR
Read my full review for ZekeFilm. Crowd: 9.5/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
2. The Academy Museum
The other reason I went out to Los Angeles: After years of pandemic-caused delays, I finally made it to the Academy Museum! Six floors of movie and Oscars history and memorabilia? You know I’m in my happy place, but casual movie fans will find something for them, too. Some of my favorite exhibits included the several-stories high Mount Rushmore backdrop used in North by Northwest, the gallery that used The Godfather to show each element of filmmaking, and the pianos from Casablanca. Fanny’s (named for Barbra Streisand’s character in Funny Girl) serves exceptional museum food, and I learned about deep cut filmmakers and movements I was only vaguely familiar with before I went. I’d give the Academy a gold statue for museum execution if I could!
Tumblr media
3. Good Reads
A miscellaneous round up of good stuff I’ve read lately…
Final thoughts on 2022 Awards Season:
“How Avatar: The Way of Water Can Make $2 Billion and Still Feel Irrelevant,” Vox.com (2023)
“How Did We Let the Golden Globes Back In?” LATimes.com (2022)
Unexpected responses to Cocaine Bear:
“An Attempt to Define the ‘Good for Her’ Cinematic Universe,” Vulture.com (2023)
“The Case for Cocaine Bears,” Slate.com (2023)
Glitches in the Sports Industry Matrix:
“America’s Bad Bet on Expanding Legal Sports Gambling,” Vox.com (2023)
“Will Damar Hamlin’s Injury Change the NFL? Why a Safer Game Could Turn Away Fans,” LATimes.com (2023)
Watching trends that need to be fixed:
“Mumbling Actors, Bad Speakers or Lazy Listeners? Why Everyone is Watching TV With Subtitles On,” TheGuardian.com (2023)
“Television Is Going Exactly the Wrong Direction. I Know the Solution.” Slate.com (2023)
Explorations of our malaise at work:
“How to Care Less About Work,” TheAtlantic.com (2021)
“The Age of the Crisis of Work,” Harpers.org (2023)
All the ways—okay, just some of the way—social media is on the struggle bus right now:
“Why Every App Now Feels Like TikTok, but Worse,” NYMag.com (2023)
“How Elon Musk Turned the Blue Check Mark Into a Scarlet Letter,” Slate.com (2023)
“Commentary: If Twitter Finally Dies, Where Do We Find the Smart People?” LATimes.com (2023)
And even more miscellaneous good reads:
“You’ll Feel Better if You Go Outside,” NewYorker.com (2021)
“The Oral History of Helm’s Deep,” Inverse.com (2022)
“I’ve Had It With Stunt Ice Cream Flavors,” Eater.com (2023)
“Clothes Make the Con Man,” NYTimes.com (2023)
“Hailey Bieber, Selena Gomez, and the Easter Egg-ification of the Hollywood Feud,” Vox.com (2023)
“Why Are TV Writers So Miserable?” NewYorker.com (2023)
Tumblr media
4. Current Exhibits at the St. Louis Art Museum
My membership to the SLAM always pays off. In April I indulged in two special exhibits:
The Age of Armor, which showcases the history of armor and battle gear with an emphasis on suits of armor. The galleries did a great job explaining how the armor functioned and provided model pieces to try yourself, but you know my favorite part was the Black Panther and Star Wars costumes at the end!
Monet/Mitchell: Painting the French Landscape compares the work of Claude Monet and American expat Joan Mitchell, and it brought me back to my magical trip to Giverny last summer!
Tumblr media
5. The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939)
Sumptous costumes and sets, Bette Davis doing the most acting, and Errol Flynn at his handsomest. This Queen Elizabeth I costume drama from Michael Curtiz is maximalist in aesthetic and romantic at its heart. Crowd: 7/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
6. Under the Umbrella: A Little Women Podcast (2023-)
Little Women superfans unite! Kate and Kelsey (friends and both teachers) are analyzing the book and film versions from every angle, and if you love the March sisters, Louisa May Alcott, or Greta Gerwig, they are going to be your new best friends.
Tumblr media
7. Just Like Us: The Tabloids That Changed America (2022)
Last spring the Ringer Dish podcast did a deep dive into the ‘00s tabloids and their obsession with Brangelina, Bennifer, and ‘90s child stars gone wild—so basically everything I obsessed over in middle school. Bottom line: They probably didn’t make our world better, but those mags (and emerging online blogs and reality TV) sure tapped into parts of our brains that made them addictive. This eight-episode series challenges any assumption we have about about celebrity gossip being harmless—or frivolous.
Until May’s Round Up…
In spite of the current state of things, I’m still tweeting in denial as @tblake24. Come join me until this platform burns to the ground!
If you want real-time updates on what I’m watching and loving, you can also find me as @tblake24 on Letterboxd.
Photo credits: Good Reads, Under the Umbrella, Just Like Us. Descanso Gardens, PaleyFest, Academy Museum, and SLAM my own. All other IMDb.com.

I'm still annoyed every weekend over her European tour she wss supposed to be announcing her engagement to a guy she has known for the entirety of a year and three months (at best). It's sexist as how Taylor's own fans consider her life not 'entirely' successful because she hasn't married some guy yet and despite all her success in so many fields her fans still have weird regressive hang ups that she hasn't married and had kids yet. Maybe that is the plan and I'll eat my words but I would like her own fans to not live vicariously through her love life and maybe fix their own problems instead (I too use Taylor as a distraction, I'm not special). We get to see so much of her relationship now and that's fine but that's also her private business and maybe we will be told her plan on her next album? maybe?
Omg plsss I rmb when everyoen was like on the last night of the ___ leg, she’s going to change the bdilh lyric to ‘im having his babyyyy YES I AM’ 😭😭😭 it’s just sooo icky and juvenile/immature (a little off topic but I feel like it’s the same with all the new chants ppl tried to come up w the eras tour? The reason why chants like 123 lgb took off was cuz they were organiccc like it’s just childish how everyone wants to feel special/get clout for coming up with the latest taylor chant/trend or smth)
I think it shows how her fanbase is significantly younger now esp with how she’s been trying to appeal to gen z (grippy socks! 🤪🤪)/ they’re emotionally stunted 20/30 year olds (yk some of the ones on tiktok…”smol gurl” 😭😭) so I feel like this kind of behaviour is expected :( yk the whole perception of love or relationships has become increasingly superficial and commodified (especially with the way Taylor markets herself) so it’s almost part of the “game”: now kiss! now get married! now have kids! I agree part of it has to do with taylor being a woman and it’s disgustingly sexist but also she’s kind of encouraged this kind of behaviour lately, with making her relationship so public and all, as long as she’s the hot topic yk
(My point being that when it’s her fans doing all the speculation, it’s not rlly with malicious intent per say but yea that kind of mindset is awfully backward and unfortunately getting more and more normalised on social media like tiktok)
But I also think she’s been quite open on wanting to get married in quite a few songs, which is fine, so unless she’s changed her mind I think she still wants that. But then again she’d do it on her terms, with who she wants, when she wants, how she wants it (DONT get me started on the swiftie bridesmaid daydreams like stop it!! stop it!!!!!). I think it’s part of the parasocial relationship she’s cultivated with her fanbase from the very beginning; ppl perceive her as their friend and just forget how she’s an actual human being who’s actually Not their friend/don’t realise how invasive their actions are. So yeah we can guess and speculate based on the songs she writes but we don’t rlly have much to go on beyond that, so yup like you said we’ll have to see in future albums

Lol, this is my ask. I should clarify I would hate every minute of it, but I know Gen Z would eat that shit up. They need Bridesmaids for their generation.
I feel like there are some movies that need to come out for every generation, no matter how many times they remake it. For example, mean girls. Like I know that movie did not come out that long ago, but I’m glad that they’re making another one, even if it is a musical, because it’s one of those movies that the story needs to be said to every generation. So it needs to be updated. And I feel like bridesmaids is another good example.

At all times a bridesmaid and infrequently a bride, first-time homebuyers are making an enormous comeback after years of struggling via aggressive markets amid COVID, in response to a brand new evaluation of knowledge from Zillow launched Thursday. First-time homebuyers now make up 45 % of all transactions, up from 37 % of all patrons in 2021, returning to pre-pandemic ranges for the primary time since early 2020, Zillow’s 2022 Shopper Housing Developments Report discovered. Credit score: Zillow First-time patrons nonetheless face affordability challenges in immediately’s market with residence costs elevated and mortgage charges climbing, but when they’ll surmount these challenges, they now have much less competitors and extra choices to select from, the report recommended. First-time patrons dwindled through the pandemic as they misplaced out on properties to older, repeat homebuyers who may faucet into their residence fairness and money shops so as to submit higher presents, in response to Zillow’s analysis. Youthful patrons have been probably to lose out to all-cash patrons not less than on one event, with 45 % of Gen Z and 38 % of millennials shedding out to money presents in comparison with 30 % of all patrons, in response to a Zillow survey. “First-time patrons now look like making relative good points as excessive mortgage rates of interest disproportionately encourage present owners to remain put,” Zillow inhabitants scientist Manny Garcia mentioned in an announcement. “The circulate of properties into the market is slowing, suggesting owners are seemingly evaluating their present low mortgage charge to immediately’s charges and deciding to not transfer. Whereas rising mortgage charges are hurting affordability for all patrons, first-time patrons could also be much less deterred by greater charges as a result of they’re evaluating a month-to-month mortgage cost to what they’re paying in lease.” Now, patrons available in the market total are declining, which implies first-time patrons are gaining extra of a bonus. Newly pending residence gross sales have been down 29 % 12 months over 12 months in August, that means there have been fewer patrons lively available in the market. The Impact of Coronavirus on Retail & How Tech Can Help!
Tumblr media
As the novel coronavirus, also known as Covid-19, continues to spread across the globe at an alarming rate, the world-wide ramifications of lockdown measures are hitting multinational and local retailers hard. With consumers staying home to curb the spread, various sectors within the retail industry are seeing varying degrees of lulls, spikes, and demands as human to human contact is minimized. While online ordering and shipping have increased exponentially, supermarkets are seeing a rise in sales, and supply chains are seeing major disruptions. Unsurprisingly, as our daily routines change from our normalized freedom to restriction in movement and increased anxiety, the world is changing right along with it and retailers are scrambling to adapt. Let’s take a look at the impact of coronavirus on retail and in what ways technology can help in this time of uncertainty.
Where Are Retail Execs Focusing Their Attention?
Attention is on Demand Fluctuations: As physical markets are shutting their doors due to quarantine orders, many are seeing a precarious drop off in foot traffic as individuals do not want to risk contracting the virus or breaking the law by not adhering to official health guidelines. This has led retailers to monitor the demand fall away and shift their consumer channels, while other retailers like pharmacies and grocery stores are seeing a massive spike. The ability to predict and manage the demand for the remainder of the pandemic is critical.
Attention is on Liquidity and business sustenance: We are seeing retailers with physical footprints, rethink their cash positions and access liquidity in order to pay the bills and deal with the downturn in demand. Retailers are now looking at how they can take advantage of emergency hardship funds and engaging with lenders to refinance loans in order to revive their financial stability.
Attention is on Protecting Employees: Workplace shutdowns, no human-to-human contact, and the need to wear protective gear at all times while still trying to maintain business, is difficult to say the least. Retailers are addressing the challenges by filling in gaps with temporary workers in overcrowded departments, requiring employees to wear masks and gloves at all times, and even placing up glass or plastic barriers at cash registers in essential businesses that remain open.
Attention is on Long-Term Supply Challenges: While grocery stores have a different set of problems with maintaining a high demand for supplies, non-food retailers are weathering drops in demand coupled with slow-to-move inventory. Short-terms supply is not an issue, but as more disruptions arise, retailers need to be talking with key suppliers to manage their risks for long-term supply.
Attention is on Customer Experience: Retailers are also focusing on how to maintain the trust of their customers, manage their expectations, and how to recover from the pandemic with a positive customer experience.
A Snapshot of the Retail Sector Based on Consumers
In the UK, supermarkets saw a 20.6% increase in sales during March as consumers chose to stockpile supplies and forego purchasing take out food from restaurants. Brand-owned convenience stores also saw a spike in sales by almost 30%.
Amazon sales skyrocket, experiencing volumes similar to that of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. As a result, Amazon is hiring 100,000 new warehouse staff and raising the salary temporarily by an extra $2 per hour.
Millennials and Gen Z individuals are concerned about the pandemic and its effects on the economy and as a result, are stock piling food, medical, and essential items while spending less on experiences. Older generations, those coined Boomers and Gen Xers are also concerned but are not impacted nearly as much, with only 24% of Boomers and 34% of Gen Xer’s allowing the pandemic to impact their spending habits.
How Can Technology Help Us During Covid-19?
Online Ordering. With the closure of most physical retailers, online ordering is booming and thankfully too, as it is the only way to currently get items that are not from a grocery store or pharmacy. Retailers must focus on upgrading their online ordering systems so that customers have a smooth experience. Online ordering is the only way to now get contactless delivery from the majority of places and is the only way to stay completely safe from the virus. Combine this with mandatory shelter in place orders, and online ordering becomes the only way people can get access to goods and services.
Virtual Try-On With Smart Mirrors. When it comes to shopping for cosmetics or clothing, you would normally go into the shop of your choice and try on a new shade or a new dress in the fitting room. With Covid-19 causing massive rifts in both fashion and retail, many companies are integrating smart mirrors and virtual try-on software into their websites and mobile applications. This gives retailers the option to still cater to shoppers without needing them to ever leave their home. For instance, Amsale New York is catering to their bride and bridesmaid customers by offering them virtual try-ons for their complete wedding wardrobe and bridesmaids collections. It is likely that other retailers will follow suit.
Shift Management Systems. In the wake of Covid-19, hundreds of thousands of companies have had to shift into a remote working environment as having employees come into the office just isn’t practical. This sudden need to provide employees with ways to work from home has presented many logistical problems, which is where shift management software can help.Companies like Slack and Microsoft are making their cloud productivity suites free for small businesses for the next six months, in an attempt to help the world adapt to remote work. Beyond offering their productivity suites, features like business chat software, consultations, and video conferencing options have had their limitations lifted as well. It is important that businesses of all sizes look into shift management systems and collaborative programs that can aid their employees with staying on top of projects. Many of these shift management systems have timelines, task lists, collaborative chatting, and video conferencing to aid in the seamless transference of work from worker to worker.
Catalogue Apps & Websites. As a retailer, having an online catalogue website or mobile application is far more important now than it ever was before. With hundreds of thousands of more people shopping online, having your products and services easily accessible through a catalogue system is critical for making sales. A product catalogue app will show off all of your products in a gallery mode-type, which gives potential buyers the ability to track their favorite products, the pricing of products and services, as well as product descriptions and manufacturers. It offers a seamless and smooth user-experience which is necessary during heavy-traffic load times.
Digital Marketing of Products and Services. With the cancellation of trade shows, events, and little to no foot traffic, businesses are going to need to rely on digital marketing strategies now more than ever. The shift to remote work and collaboration, means that companies must embrace digital channels and transform if they want to survive the pandemic. This means launching new e-commerce channels, creating social media campaigns, using influencers, and updating websites to focus more on search engine optimization in order to reach their audiences.
It is important that businesses consider using Facebook or LinkedIn Live, partner with digital marketers, and offer virtual events as these will increase conversions and provide both leads and sales. Regardless of how long the pandemic lasts for, a shift to digital marketing of one’s products and services will not only replace opportunities lost, but it can provide long-term value. As the COVID19 outbreak continues to create havoc on the supply chain, many retailers and brands are opting for technology solution providers to help manage the crisis. Let’s join hands together to fight against this Pandemic.

WTFunds: Millennials Are Going Into Debt To Have Instagrammable Weddings Betches
It’s a huge honor to be asked to be a bridesmaid for one of your besties. It means you’re one their elite friends and they like you better than everyone else. However, it’s also a double-edged sword, because they are also saying, “Hey I’m getting married, please give me a thousand dollars.” That part is less fun. Between the dress (usually a super pricey tulle nightmare), shoes (that hurt), the bridal shower (boring), the bachelorette party (v expensive), the wedding gift (also boring, I don’t care that you need a KitchenAid mixer), you’re SOL in terms of your finances. And God help you if you’re the maid of honor and had to front shower/bachelorette money on your credit card.
Let’s hone in on that money aspect for a second. In some extremely depressing news, Credit Karma recently released a survey that found 20% of Americans go into debt to plan or attend a wedding. Which is crazy! You found true love, why are your friends going into debt for it? I’m alone and in debt so you can get married? What sense does that make? Also, Credit Karma found that millennials are more likely to go into debt to attend other people’s weddings, while Gen-Z is selfish more likely to go into debt from planning their own wedding. I feel like this means millennials are way too nice and eager to please, and Gen-Z likes to ball out for themselves.
How does this happen? Here are the top 5 reasons people spend money they don’t have on their wedding:
1. Felt like they had no choice (ouch)
2. Have a huge family
3. Want to impress
4. Instagram (NO SERIOUSLY, THIS IS ON THERE)
5. To one-up someone else’s wedding (respect)

Its August 13th, you’re exactly 67 days out from your wedding. Ashley from Bachelor in Paradise just got married. Her tablescapes are to die for. You call your florist and irrationally drop an additional $2,000 you don’t have. Your fiancé is pissed, you’re also low key pissed at yourself but hey it’s your wedding and you’ll splurge if you want to. I mean, if you care that much about your wedding being Insta-worthy, maybe you should invest in a therapist rather than blow all the money you can on a party that is one day. Just some general life advice for you. And you got that for free, you’re welcome. But while it’s bad enough for people to go into debt for their own party, why do people go into debt for someone else’s? Like really, who cares that much about your friends’ sh*t? Well, here are the top 5 reasons people go into debt just to attend a bachelorette/bachelor party:
1. Felt obligated (I’m sensing a theme here)
2. All other friends were participating
3. Didn’t want to offend the bride/groom
4. Novel/once-in-a-life-time experience
5. Didn’t want friends to think they were broke
Having just come back from my own best friend’s bachelorette party this past weekend, I get it. You don’t want to miss out on a major life event for them. Also, everyone knows the bachelorette is way more fun than the wedding, always. I would have been so bummed out to miss my friend’s. However, just because you want a dream wedding or want to be a part of your friend’s doesn’t mean you have to put yourself in financial ruin.
Interviewer: Why do you want to work here?
Me: Because I have 10 friends getting married this year and that shit ain’t cheap.
— betchesbrides (@betchesbrides) July 30, 2019
Out of the 20% of Americans who go into debt for their own wedding, 25% percent (this is like SAT question math right here) of that go into more than $10,000 of debt for it. That is a lot, friends. Guys, all you really need at a wedding is an open bar. Spend all the cash on that and it’ll be a great party. And, even more concerning, 7% of Americans go into more than $20,000 of debt for their wedding. Twenty thousand dollars! That’s like, a down payment on a house. I mean, like a small house. A shack really. In Montana. The housing market is insane, but that’s for another article. You get my point! Also, a whopping 38% of the Gen-Z respondents have gone into debt for their wedding—I wonder if it’s because they’re more vain and doing it for the ‘Gram? Dark.
Even worse, 20% of attendees—again, people who are not finding their fairytale romance, but are trying to be kind and support your dumb ass—go into debt of $250-$500. Okay, that’s not like, terrible. That’s basically a month or two of being a hermit in your apartment and refusing to see people so you don’t spend money, depending on how much you make. But a SICK 5% goes into debt for more than $5,000. I’m sorry, WHO are these people even spending $5,000 on someone else’s wedding? What did you get them for a gift, an island? If your friends are expecting you to shell out that much cash (especially when you don’t even have it), you need less friends. Or really, just better, more understanding, less bougie friends.
At the end of the day, the only true expenses you should have to pay for as a bridesmaid are the dress and shoes, and showing up to the wedding. If you can’t afford the shower, bachelorette, etc., and gifts for all these extraneous events, just be upfront about it as soon as you can. If you can’t afford a wedding gift, maybe come up with something that you can do for free. I have a very talented artist friend that does pencil portraits of a wedding photo for her gift to every wedding. It just costs her her time, but the portrait would be super expensive to commission from someone else. Even if you’re not creative, see what you can figure out that costs less. Unless your friend is a complete nightmare (in which case, maybe it’s time for you guys to part ways anyway), she should just be happy that you’re at her wedding with her.
If that doesn’t work, have less friends.

Melodramatic Purple Wedding Flower Inspiration
Pantone named Ultra Violet as its color of the year, and though this deep purple shade is gorgeous, we’ve noticed another shade in the purple family creating some buzz: Melodramatic Purple.
