Gatiss' Christmas Carol Adaptation Returning to Stage This Winter
At the Nottingham Playhouse and Alexandra Palace.
"Gatiss' A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story will also return to the Playhouse from 27 October to 18 November. ... Gatiss commented: 'I'm delighted that my adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is returning to Nottingham Playhouse and Alexandra Palace this year after such a successful outing last time. I'm sad to say, that having fulfilled my lifetime ambition of Jacob Marley, I shall be hanging up my chains, but I am extremely delighted and excited at the prospect of a new Scrooge and Marley to take up the reins for this festive season. I can't wait to be part of it again and see it from the other side of the veil.'

Our last viewing of the annus horribilis that was 2022 will be A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story tomorrow, December 30, at 2:30 US Central time, 8:30 UK time. Mark plays Marley and wrote the adaptation. Let's end the year with shared festivity and a hope for positive change.

Mark’s Ghost Stories on DVD
Oooooh !
Fan of Mark’s Ghost Stories ? Here’s something you’ll want. A DVD collecting all four “inspired by the short stories of M.R. James”. (The Dead Room stretches that a bit, but they’re saying the main character misses stories that use his rules.)
Also included are The Tractate Middoth, Martin’s Close, and The Mezzotint, as well as an 8-page booklet with Mark’s production notes.
Unfortunately, UK only at this point. Amazon.co.uk has a preorder available here.

From this evening’s “The Spectre at the Feast - A Talk With Mark Gatiss”. A wonderful talk in which he took questions about writing and enjoying horror and ghost stories.

At the December 6 BFI Mezzotint preview, I happened to be in the lobby when Mr. Mark Gatiss arrived. Which I realized because I heard his voice.
And yes, he’s carrying an umbrella, because it was a rainy night.
I have photos from the event itself, but I went a little shutter-happy and have to sort through the way-too-many I took to find the best ones.
I don’t know who he’s talking to, but I’m pretty sure he’s a reporter, as there was a press event just after the preview.

Tomorrow is once again watchalong time! It’s a double bill of spookiness, with the MR James: Ghost Writer documentary and The Spectre at the Feast talk.
Ghosts are still timely in winter, right? 2 PM Central US / 8 PM UK, ask if you need the link.
Also, if you can’t join us, Dartington has put the latter presentation online.

Drama Quarterly on The Amazing Mr Blunden and some of Mark’s other festive projects.
Notable to me for this new piece of information:
As a writer of several adaptations, Gatiss now has his own trusty process: buy two copies of the book and break their spines. “It’s a horrific moment,” he jokes, “but you have to do it because you can’t be constantly turning the pages.”
Book maimer!

Ah! Just figured out how to tell the ticket site to search my area (instead of where it thinks I am now) and it says “coming soon” to my local theater!
