Onion- Gary Preston
Tumblr media
Pairing: Gary Preston x Reader
Characters: Gary Preston
Warnings: N/A
Request: @cryinginbooks - Hiya love, could i get a miranda oneshot, like fluffy gary teaches reader to cook. Its totally cool if not, thanks :)
Word Count: 403
Author: Charlotte
It was slightly ironic that your boyfriend was a professional chef whilst you had never outgrown your time as a student and still lived off of food that was made in a microwave or with a kettle. It wasn’t a healthy way of living. You had never bothered to learn to cook as you had other things to do but with Gary constantly reminding you of what you needed to know, it had become a rather pressing issue for you.
He had tried to convince you to learn how to cook but you kept making up excuses to get out of it, but you had run out of them now. You finally gave up and agreed to a cooking lesson but assured him that you weren’t a good student and weren’t going to change that fact just because you were dating the teacher.
Gary had laid out the ingredients to make a simple dish and begun to cut up an onion to demonstrate.
“And just one more cut and you’re done,” he smiled, looking back at you.
You were meant to be watching his demonstration, but you had gotten distracted by watching a bird on the bird feeder outside and had given up paying any attention to Gary cutting up an onion.
“Did you pay any attention?” He snapped at you.
His voice caught your attention from looking at the bird and back at him.
“Of course,” you lied.
He cocked an eyebrow at you, knowing you too well, and knowing you definitely hadn’t paid any attention to what he was doing.
“Then cut up an onion.”
You tried to look confident, but you were aware that you hadn’t cared enough to listen. You may not have ever actually put the effort into cutting up vegetables before, but you didn’t know how hard it could be. Taking the knife from Gary, you proceeded to roughly chop it up, crying as you went, without any pieces even looking like they were cut from the same onion.
“Maybe I wasn’t paying any attention,” you admitted, trying to give him an innocent smile.
“I know,” he chuckled. “Would you like me to show you again?”
You nodded your head and apologised to him for ignoring his attempt to teach you. Although you still lacked any interest in what he was teaching or the art of cooking, you wanted to make him happy and accepted the lesson.

Do you read? maybe you could share some true crime book recommendations?
Yeah, I read quite a bit. If you’re interested in reading about true crime, I recommend you look into some of these:
1. James Kolar’s ‘Foreign Faction’ (Jonbenet Ramsay case) - The author was actually assigned to the case, so there’s a lot in this book that demonstrates that he knows a lot (and I mean classified information/not known to the public) about the case. Since the case is unsolved, he entertains a lot of theories and shows how some is more realistic than others. He really gets into the forensic aspects of this case and delves into the alleged sexual assault that occur to the victim (which most books don’t seem to bring up tbh). In general, this case is probably one of the most fascinating unsolved crime because there are so many pieces of evidence but when you put it all together, something just doesn’t add up.
2. Vincent Bugliosi’s ‘Helter Skelter’ (Manson Family) - the writer is the prosecuting attorney of this case and he gets straight to the point tbh. I’m a fan of the pacing of this book, it doesn’t drag at all, it details the facts in a way that most will find easy to keep up with and his personal perspective on this case is pretty interesting. I’m gonna lie though, since this book does include interviews with Manson and the family members, it may be a disturbing read to some.
3. Richard Llyod’s ‘People Who Eat Darkness’ (Lucie Blackman case) - so very little happens in this case but when you look at all the information carefully, there’s a lot to unpack. It’s a really long book but trust me, you’ll get through this so quickly cause it’s such page turner! Also if you have a certain interest in the Japanese justice system and their culture, this one is definitely for you.
4. Ann Rule’s ‘Stranger Besides Me’ (Ted Bundy case) - ok, so this book gets a bit of mixed-reviews amongst readers but I enjoyed it. I think this is such a personal and raw account of Ted Bundy; the author really captured both sides of him as Ted Bundy the serial killer and Ted Bundy the charismatic, attractive, intelligent law student. It’s especially a gripping read to me because it really shows how skilled of a manipulator he was and how easily they can manipulate us to think in a certain way.
5. Douglas Preston’s ‘The Monster of Florence’ - the basis of this case is alone is horrifying. I can’t really say much without giving things away, so I’ll just tell you guys that the writing of this is amazing, the narrative totally flips towards the end, it plays with your prior reservation about this case and challenges your perception on law enforcement.
6. Jason Moss’ ‘The Last Victim’ - I’m pretty hesitant to recommend this but it’s such a fantastic, gripping yet disturbing read that I can’t help but include it in this list anyway. Basically the author starts off corresponding with a handful of serial killers during college as a part of a school project. He got in contact with particular notorious serial killer and it starts to really screw with his head. I wouldn’t start reading this book on a whim without first doing a brief search to make sure that you can handle the content, because this book definitely made plenty of people uncomfortable.
Other true-crime books that aren’t my favourite but you may want to check out:
- Gary Kinder’s ‘Victim: The Other Side of Murder’
- John E. Douglas’s ‘Journey into Darkness’
- Dave Cullen’s ‘Columbine’
- Errol Morris’ ‘A Wilderness of Error’
- Jack Olsen’s ‘Son’
These are just off the top of my head. If you want to chat/discuss about true crime in more detail, feel free to send me a private message x

Movie Marathon- Gary Preston
Tumblr media
Pairing: Gary Preston x Reader
Characters: Gary Preston
Warnings: N/A
Request: Wattpad- I have an idea if it would help? Maybe something like the reader comforts him (as like a beast friend) after gary and miranda break up?
Word Count: 446
Author: Charlotte
Spending a Saturday night in your flat, in pyjamas watching musicals was a common occurrence and honestly you wouldn’t have it any other way. You had never been one for a big night out, preferring to spend the weekend relaxing and singing terribly. If you felt especially adventurous you would order in Chinese or pizza and indulge in your love for greasy food.
You had just ordered a pizza when you heard someone knock on your door. I was seemingly impossible for the food to have arrived this quickly, but you hoped that it was a miracle of the greasy pizza kind. Excitedly, you made your way to the door, hopeful to see the bringer of food; it wasn’t the delivery person. There at your door stood Gary. Gary was one of your closest friends and although you were glad to see him, you were confused as to why he was there. It was unlike him to just turn up unannounced, so it was obvious that something had to be important.
“Gary?” You questioned.
“Um… sorry for just turning up,” he sighed.
His expression was sorrowful, something that you rarely saw and something that you wished you never had to see.
“What’s wrong?” You asked.
“Nothing,” he shrugged. “Miranda and I broke up.”
You gave him a sympathetic smile. No one had thought that Miranda and Gary were going to end up together but once they got together, they seemed to work out perfectly- well until now.
“Come in,” you smiled softly.
He walked into your flat and you led him over to the sofa, sitting down next to him.
“What happened?” You asked.
Gary shrugged his shoulders. “We realised that we weren’t working out. It was amicable, we’re still friends.”
You wrapped your arms around him, giving him a friendly and encouraging hug.
“It doesn’t seem too amicable. You seem quite sad,” you offered, hoping he would open up to you, but knowing he may need time.
“I don’t know, I thought we would last longer than we did,” he sighed. “It just ended quicker than I thought however I am glad we both agreed on the outcome.”
Rising from your chair, you gave him a warm smile, as he looked quizzically up at you.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
“Well you say that you’re okay, but everyone needs an opportunity to smile. So, pick a couple of movies and pizza should get here soon. We’ll have a good old movie marathon. Whilst you pick the films, I’ll get you a glass of wine and we can talk this all through.”
Gary shot you a gentle smile. “You’re the best. Thank you, Y/N.,”
“Anytime.”
