Ants in the garden 🐜
I was enjoying the rare warmth in between so many rainy days in my garden on Friday, and there were so many ants. Sometimes, they manage to get inside the house too. The walls are at least 60cm thick and made of stone...
They can be quite annoying, but they are such interesting creatures too.
They inspired me, and I spent a few hours on this design. Which version do you prefer?

Centaurea montana (bachelor's button, mountain bluet)
In late spring, the mountain bluet blooms in my front garden. I regard it as an inoffensive flower particularly attractive to insects looking for a bit of the sweet stuff on a sunny day. However, according to the Invasive Species Council of British Columbia:
"Mountain bluet is a popular garden perennial introduced from Europe; however, it easily escapes gardens and invades natural areas. This plant can self-seed, which makes it difficult to control. It also spreads through roots. Mountain bluet is found in meadows, pastures, roadsides and disturbed open areas. Mountain bluet is designated as a Management species by the BC Provincial Priority Invasive Species List."

I had always liked the image of ants marching in columns. There is something appealing in seeing order with nature's fickleness

Ant Plant / Hydnophytum formicarum
My class got to go tour this lovely greenhouse. It had so many plants I’d only ever seen pictures of. There’s definitely more to come.

Steve is met with a face full of flowers, blinded by an indistinguishable array of colours the second he opens his front door.
And just as quick, they are gone, Eddie revealing himself from behind the bunch with a smile so dimple-filled and sickly sweet Steve can't help but be suspicious.
"Brought you some flowers!" Eddie sings, swaying back and forward on the spot before shoving them right in his face again.
Steve recoils, his nose itching from the sheer proximity to their pollen centres.
He moves to lower Eddie's hand but decides it would be best to wrap his hand around his wrist instead because...
"Eddie, your hand is covered in ants."
