Ponet’s property became known as part of Sherman, though it was still owned by his family. In 1906, a new 140-acre residential development in Sherman called Hacienda Park was announced. To reach the new neighborhood, Sunset Boulevard was extended to Ponet’s land.

On December 14, 2018, respondent was convicted of causing mental harm to a child, a Class F felony in the State of Wisconsin, in violation of Wisconsin Statute 948.04, in a matter titled State of Wisconsin v James Ross Datsko, Brown County Circuit Court, Case No. 2017CF000221. In accordance with MCR 9.120(B)(1). respondent's license to practice law in Michigan was automatically suspended on the date of his felony conviction.

An Elk Rapids man's emails, notes to someone he believed was a teenage girl, could lead to decades in prison.

Wisconsin authorities contend James Ross Datsko, 69, responded to an online post written by an undercover Brown County sheriff's sergeant posing as a girl soliciting a man to have sexual contact with her teenage sister.

Their correspondence led a sheriff's lieutenant to arrest Datsko at an Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, hotel on Feb. 10. Datsko is listed as a member of the State Bar of Michigan.

Brown County Circuit Court records state Datsko was planning to meet the 15-year-old girl at the hotel and have sexual contact with her. He had checked into a room and was emailing the girl directions to his room from a computer in the lobby.

Datsko was one of 40 people who responded to the undercover sheriff's sergeant's Feb. 9 post in an online classifieds forum. The undercover sergeant posed as a girl helping her younger sister get "into the game."

Out of the dozens of respondents, only Datsko continued conversing with the undercover sergeant after learning the girl was 15. He traveled from Michigan to meet her, sheriff's Lt. Jim Valley said.

Datsko asked to meet the girl for "lite fun" at a hotel, where he planned the pair would have sexual contact, court records state. He and the undercover sergeant discussed payment — Datsko eventually agreed to pay $200 for two hours with the girl.

"The amount would depend on her appearance," Datsko wrote, according to court records. "I'm very much for real, and serious about doing this if she is truly interested in playing."

Datsko was charged Monday with using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, a felony punishable by up to 40 years in prison, and enticing a child to have sexual contact, a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison, in Brown County Circuit Court.

He was released from Brown County's jail on a $25,000 cash bond Monday at 8:28 p.m., jail records state.

Datsko could not be reached for comment. Court records indicate he does not yet have an attorney.

Valley said he hopes the case reminds parents to track their children's electronic use.

Why the NFL suspended Jameis Winston for 3 games

The Buccaneers quarterback was accused of groping an Uber driver in March 2016.

The NFL has completed its investigation into allegations that Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston groped an Uber driver. Winston has been issued a three-game suspension by the NFL, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Winston was never arrested or charged with a crime for this alleged incident. But the NFL’s personal conduct policy is broad and does not carry the same burden of proof as the criminal justice system.

According to Jeff Cameron of ESPN Radio, the suspension doesn’t necessarily mean that the NFL found Winston guilty of the allegations, or that it comes as a surprise.

“What he’ll be suspended over is a failure to report,” Cameron said earlier in June, via JoeBucsFan. “This is what I do know: the Winston camp is prepared for the NFL to levy a suspension of some kind.”

Players are obligated to report any incident that would be a violation of the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy, which reads:

Clubs and players are obligated to promptly report any matter that comes to their attention (through, for example, victim or witness reports, law enforcement, or media reports) that may constitute a violation of this Policy.

This obligation to report is broader than simply reporting an arrest; it requires reporting to the league any incident that comes to the club’s or player’s attention which, if the allegations were true, would constitute a violation of the Personal Conduct Policy.

A female student at Florida State also accused Winston of sexual assault while he was in college. He was never charged or convicted and later settled a civil suit for an undisclosed amount with his accuser. Jimbo Fisher also sat Winston for part of a game during his college career for standing on a table at FSU and yelling, “F—- her right in the p—-y.”

What happened? The driver responded to a call for a ride in Scottsdale, Ariz. in March 2016. According to the driver’s account, Winston rode in the front seat. The driver said that Winston grabbed her crotch as they waited in line in the drive-thru at a restaurant.

She reported the alleged incident to Uber shortly after it happened. Uber suspended Winston’s account with the app. Arizona police told ESPN’s Jenna Laine that the incident was not reported to them at the time.

The NFL sent the driver a letter in November 2017 confirming it would investigate the allegations.

“The League has been informed that you may have been the victim of such a violation perpetrated by Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Jameis Winston. The league takes allegations of this nature very seriously and has opened an investigation into this matter,” said the letter, which was obtained by BuzzFeed.

The NFL kicked off its investigation with a conversation with the Buccaneers’ head of security, Andres Trescastro, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Uber driver has retained attorney John Clune, who represented the woman who claimed Winston sexually assaulted her while he was a student-athlete at Florida State University.

What did Winston say about it? Winston issued a statement after news of the NFL’s investigation broke.

“I believe the driver was confused as to the number of passengers in the car and who was sitting next to her,” the statement read. “The accusation is false, and given the nature of the allegation and increased awareness and consideration of these types of matters, I am addressing this false report immediately.”

Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Ronald Darby backed up Winston’s story. Darby, Winston’s college teammate at Florida State, said that he was in the car with Winston at the time of the alleged incident. He said that Winston did not grope the driver.

"There were three of us in the car, not just one as has been reported," Darby said. "Myself and Jameis were in the backseat. I am confident that nothing inappropriate in nature happened in the car that evening and Jameis did not have any physical contact with the Uber driver. The accusations are just not true.”

What happens now? Winston and the NFLPA will surely appeal the suspension to the NFL. Roger Goodell will have the choice of either hearing the appeal himself or passing it off to an arbitrator. If this discipline is upheld, Winston could either choose to serve the suspension or pursue a different outcome by filing a lawsuit against the NFL.

If the suspension is upheld and Winston misses time, the Buccaneers will turn to Ryan Fitzpatrick to start at quarterback. Fitzpatrick will turn 36 during the 2018 season, but has plenty of starting experience and stepped in for Tampa Bay for three starts in 2017 when Winston suffered a shoulder injury. He was re-signed to another one-year deal after the season.

Lock him up

We’ve been patient. We’ve tried to forgive. We’ve wanted to move on. Days after November 26, 2010, a man with evil in his heart drove to Auburn and stole something from the Auburn people that had been part of where we gather, what we do, and the welcome mat to our university for almost 100 years of generations.

Time goes by, with our iconic trees being replaced by wires for the 2013 season, and then by two, new permanent oaks at the corner of College and Magnolia. One of the trees has been replaced again. And every time I look at that corner now, I long for a day I’ll never see. A day where those trees don’t look new. A day where that corner feels old again.

The sad part is that the closest I’ll ever come to seeing that corner look and feel old again is going to be if I live another 60 years. And frankly by that point in time I doubt I’d be going to games. No, what I remember as a child, celebrating in 1993, 1995, and in 1997 in Auburn after beating Alabama are memories that I know I can’t quite reach back and connect with the same way ever again. Now part of that is growth, because man has Auburn changed. Another part of that is a Pieology where a bar should be. Pieology should be put out of business and someone should resurrect Bodega immediately. But the main part of it for me are those two new trees.

The fact that we had been subjected to hurt, insults, having something stolen from us, and had to deal with yet another attempt at stealing our joy from 2010 was hard. It’s enough to make you a little crazy and start thinking Auburn’s the problem sometimes. When people don’t let you, an Auburn person, enjoy a season, a player, trees, traditions, etc. that are uniquely Auburn and especially that year tried to steal all of it from you, it’s hard to know where to direct your frustration sometimes.

Harvey Updyke made the direction of that anger extremely easy. He encompassed the Cam Newton investigation, and everyone who wasn’t us telling us that our moment in the sun after 53 years would be taken away from us. He represented the worst offender in terms of a fanbase. And when the thought that a program that had been robbed of national title opportunities for decades finally kicked down the door, he took matters into his own hands to ensure that “order” could be restored, by reminding us that we should be allowed to have joy.

By doing what he did, Harvey also committed a crime. And owned up to it gleefully. He’s been tried by a jury, and found guilty. He’s been asked to pay restitution. He’s been asked to stay away from athletic events in the state. He’s been spotted at football games, such as the Alabama/LSU National Title game in early 2012. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison for his crimes in 2013, serving a mere 76 days in jail in Lee County.

Beyond the emotion that goes with experiencing theft of something that cannot be replaced or replicated, there is this whole thing of this man managing to avoid justice. Furthermore, this man has thumbed his nose at the law in which he was told to abide by, and has failed to pay restitution, as Harvey has paid less than $7,000 of an $800,000 bill. Harvey has managed to create a level of damage that cannot be restored, and the upheaval at Toomer’s Corner since is his responsibility. This is a man who has not served justice, a man who has not followed judges orders, and a man who seems to enjoy the celebrity that sadly has gone with committing a crime. And now, amidst being in violation of a judge’s orders, Harvey is a man who continues to use a platform given to him for reasons that I will never understand to play the role of a victim...and to insult Auburn.

Harvey Updyke should be in jail. He has willingly missed payments and hearings around this for years. Now, he has the motivated Lee County District Attorney on his tail. He has managed to use his notoriety as a way of getting to games, I’m sure having financial support, and insulting the people he hurt. This stopped being about dead trees in 2013 for Auburn University. What this has been about since the day it happened is justice.

Which leads me to the only game I’m paying close attention to today...

LSU at Alabama

Beat their ass like they stole something from you, LSU. Not because you owe us a favor, but because the only way for Harvey Updyke to feel pain isn’t going to come from the guilt he should feel for what he did, but from his beloved Tide losing a football game. And because those people cheering that embarrassing segment on Finebaum (aired by the SEC Network), don’t think that the man who committed a crime did anything wrong. It’s easy to get defensive at what I’m about to say, but they don’t represent all of them. I refuse to believe there are more people like that in the world than there are with common sense (though this world surprises me more and more each day). But for those specific folks that feed Harvey Updyke’s twisted ego, and for Harvey, a criminal, who has such a warped view of the world that today matters so much to, I want nothing but heartbreak for each and every single one of them. Beat their ass, LSU, and enjoy yourselves, your culture, and your way of living while there today, knowing that it’s all enough. There’s no need to inflict damage on them the way one of theirs did to us. The fact that you, like us, exist while they’re on top and still love who you are is more frustration to that segment of fandom than anything you could destroy over there. So again, beat their ass.

Chad Morris is going to be fired this year and Auburn’s name is going to get invoked in a lot of silly season talk because of it. You know why. There’s a lot of rooting interest on one side of the Auburn sphere that will find themselves rooting for Western Kentucky today so that Morris is fired on Sunday and this process picks up steam. For my part I think the train has left the station on us being involved in the talk of silly season, and it’s going to suck. Because it steals from the two biggest games of the year, both in Auburn. For that reason, knowing we’re going to get roped in on a lot of talk in November about Gus and Arkansas, I’d rather do it with the prospect of Arkansas making a coaching change, instead of it being a definite, since, you know, I’d like to enjoy and win the rest of our schedule. This week’s Index is a little condensed, frankly because the SEC sets this weekend up to be about Alabama and LSU every year. It sucks, the game will probably suck, and we’re invest energy into something we have no part in and should want no part of. But it’s a BYE week so cook some chili at the house, let your dog get to enjoy you being a little less scary around the TV, and maybe even use this weekend to get out and enjoy a nice, cool fall day.

Missouri at Georgia - DUH

Appalachian State at South Carolina - Eli Drinkwitz is a guy to keep an eye on in silly season either this year or the next. Plus South Carolina is about as useful to me now as a screen door is on a submarine.

New Mexico State at Ole Miss - Look man I just enjoy watching the world burn. And Rich Rodriguez lose it in a box.

Vandy at Florida - Normally I’d root for Vandy because I feel sorry for them and because to hell with Florida. But on the off chance Mizzou can do the deal today and we finish Georgia off next week, it sure would be nice to see someone else win the SEC East!

Tennessee at Kentucky - Mark Stoops is allegedly a good football coach, so I’m told. So good, that he’s probably the right fit for Florida State. Or he’s fine to probably never have a 10-win season again at Kentucky while not getting fired. Either way, he’s not an Alabama graduate who doesn’t understand vegetables. Tennessee is getting better. Which, yeah, ok that’s fine. They still aren’t getting better quick enough to challenge Alabama year over year. Plus this ain’t basketball. And last year happened, and I’ll never be ok with it.

Trump 2020 Campaign Used a Shell Company to Pay Ad Buyers at the Center of Alleged Illegal Coordination Scheme with NRA

Using shell entities to circumvent campaign coordination rules is a hardly new concept, and something that often occurs without consequence — giving consultants free rein to exploit these tactics. (Open Secrets, by Anna Massoglia) The Trump campaign funneled money to ad buyers alleged to have facilitated illegal coordination between the campaign and the NRA by routing funds through a secretive LLC that appears to be little more than a shell company, an investigation by the Center for Responsive Politics has found. While the Trump campaign stopped reporting payments to ad buyers alleged to have facilitated illegal coordination between the campaign and the NRA after the 2016 election cycle, Trump’s 2020 campaign has continued to deploy the same individuals working for the firms at the center of the controversy through payments to Harris Sikes Media LLC — a low-profile limited-liability company operating with no website or public-facing facade whatsoever. Facing the illegal coordination allegations are National Media, Red Eagle Media Group and American Media & Advocacy Group (AMAG), closely tied consultancies that share staff, resources and adjacent storefronts in Alexandria, Va. CRP’s analysis of Federal Communications Commission (FCC) records found that Trump campaign political ad disclosures on file with stations across the country have continued to include signatures and names of individuals working for National Media, despite no mention of National Media or its known affiliates on any FCC or Federal Election Commission (FEC) disclosures. Those individual ad buyers’ names have simultaneously continued to be included in ad documents for the National Rifle Association (NRA) and America First, but with the ad buyers’ affiliation listed as National Media or one of its affiliates. Common vendors are one of the factors federal regulators consider when determining if communications may constitute illegal coordination between a campaign and outside group. Harris Sikes Media does not appear to have any contacts independent of National Media, and all of the individuals listed on FCC filings submitted by Harris Sikes Media have also been featured in filings by National Media or its affiliates. But unlike Red Eagle Media Group and other National Media affiliates like AMAG — which share the same neighboring Alexandria addresses — incorporation records list Harris Sikes Media’s address as 11350 Random Hills Road, Suite 700, in Fairfax, Va., which houses multiple law offices and advertises options to rent virtual offices, coworking space and meeting rooms. The Trump campaign’s FEC disclosures reveal $214,319.92 in payments to Harris Sikes Media but list a slightly different address: Suite 700 at 11350 Random Hills Road in Alexandria. There is no Random Hills Road in Alexandria. One FCC filing lists Harris Sikes Media’s address as 817 Slaters Lane in Arlington, an address even closer to the location that houses National Media and its other affiliates, without any mention of them by name. There is no Slaters Lane in Arlington. Harris Sikes Media’s registered agent is Joel L. Dahnke, an attorney who is also the registered agent for National Media Group LLC, National Media Research Planning and Placement, LLC and National Media President Robin Roberts’ firm. The three ad buyers whose names have popped up the most on political ad records for all three groups are Ben Angle, Megan Burns and Jonathan Ferrell. Although all three individuals’ names have appeared on filings from Harris Sikes Media, they are listed as employees of National Media and its affiliates — their names or signatures showing up on FCC political ad filings for Red Eagle, AMAG and National Media during that time period. Using CRP’s unique full-text search tool to scour data scraped from FCC filings, CRP discovered that each individual ad buyer’s name has been listed on FCC filings by the Trump campaign as well as outside groups spending on ads supporting Trump’s agenda during the 2018 election cycle. Many other orders and invoices only list the agency and leave the field requesting the name of an individual buyer blank. Even without a buyer disclosed, the bulk of those records do include signatures. In most — if not all — cases, that signature belongs to Jonathan Ferrell. As recently as October 2018, the Trump campaign and NRA made ad buys at the same local radio station within days of each other in filings that list the same individual ad buyer but with Trump’s campaign listing Harris Sikes Media as the firm and the NRA listing Red Eagle. Unlike the NRA’s ads during the 2016 election cycle, most of the more recent ads are focused on issue advocacy or supporting other campaigns — arguably making the risks of coordination with Trump’s campaign less dire. But the lengths to which the Trump campaign has gone to distance itself from disclosing payments to National Media affiliates while still paying the same individual ad buyers through other channels raises a number of questions, especially as 2020 approaches and ads begin to focus more on Trump’s re-election.

It’s Not Just the NRA

The NRA is not the only outside group supporting Trump that has become embroiled in an alleged campaign coordination scheme routing payments through National Media’s affiliates, suggesting a symptom of a much larger epidemic of increasingly blurred lines between campaigns and the groups supporting them. The Trump campaign abruptly cut off payments to known National Media affiliates shortly after reporting scrutinizing the closely tied firms sharing addresses and employees while being paid by Trump’s campaign and a super PAC supporting him during the 2016 election. The group at issue for the payments was Rebuilding America Now, a single-candidate super PAC supporting Trump. Rebuilding America Now was recently named in a partially redacted court filing by prosecutors working for special counsel Robert Mueller regarding a $125,000 wire transfer to former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort to cover a debt he owed — a payment Manafort lied to federal investigators about, according to the filing. During the 2016 election, Manafort dispatched two associates he hired as Trump’s campaign chair to the super PAC, potentially violating federal campaign rules that require a cooling off period. Rebuilding America Now has also come under scrutiny for allegedly accepting money from foreign federal contractor barred by federal campaign finance rules from donating to a super PAC. Rebuilding America Now spent more than $22.7 million during the 2016 election cycle, with nearly half-a-million of that going through National Media.

Shell Games and Blurred Lines

Following Trump’s inauguration, America First — a collaboration between the America First Action super PAC and its affiliated 501(c)(4) nonprofit America First Policies — stepped up to bat, quickly establishing a cozy relationship with the Trump campaign and White House. The America First groups have run with the model pioneered by President Barack Obama’s Organizing for Action, tightening the operation’s relationship with the president’s campaign and agenda even further. Unlike Organizing for Action before them, which did not exist as a 501(c)(4) until after Obama’s re-election in 2012, America First has been active throughout almost the entirety of President Trump’s first term as he navigates the roles of both candidate and president following an unprecedented move to register as a candidate for the 2020 presidential election on his first day in office. America First has been open about its revolving door of staffers bouncing between its affiliated groups, Trump’s campaign and White House. But the operation has not been so transparent about all of their activities. Perhaps most notably lacking in transparency is the operation’s fundraising. America First Policies, the 501(c)(4) arm of the operation, does not disclose donors — leaving millions of dollars unaccounted for. The group’s fundraising tactics have raised some eyebrows. Despite rules prohibiting coordination between a campaign and outside group supporting them, candidates are allowed to “attend, speak at, or be featured guests at fundraisers” for those same groups. The America First operation has continued to push these rules to their limits, drawing in high-dollar donors to events at the Trump International Hotel just blocks from the White House with President Trump himself as their special guest. And so long as President Trump does not personally ask for more than $5,000, the groups are in the clear. America First’s limited disclosure around how that money is spent has also raised questions about the groups’ finances that have yet to be answered. The America First groups have even gone as far as paying firms closely tied to key individuals employed by the campaign. CRP’s review of FCC political ad disclosures shows that the ties between Trump’s campaign and the primary groups supporting it may have reached another level. National Media and its affiliates have become a well-known institution of the swamp Trump pledged to drain, but this tactic of routing funds through Harris Sikes Media — which appears to be a previously unreported shell company that was not known to be affiliated with National Media — appears to be something new, and Trump is the first major federal candidate known to have been a part of it, according to CRP’s review of FCC records. The only other political ad disclosures in FCC records dating back to 2015 that mention Harris Sikes Media are for Rep. Jeff Landry (R-La.) and Louisiana Rising, the political action committee associated with Scott Angell’s failed gubernatorial campaign. Using shell entities to circumvent campaign coordination rules is a hardly new concept, and something that often occurs without consequence — giving consultants free rein to exploit these tactics. Trump’s re-election campaign and the America First operation have run multiple ads submitted by the same ad buyers, many of them seemingly complimentary in time, focus and location. Many of the ads America First’s operation has run thus far — years away from the 2020 presidential election — resemble issue advocacy, focusing more on health care, tax reform and Trump’s nominees than the far-off election. At almost every ad’s core, however, the issue is Trump, with FCC political ad disclosures even listing the issue in the ad as “pro-Trump agenda.” As the election nears, this all-encompassing support of Trump may make it difficult to tell the difference between ads supporting Trump’s agenda as president and his agenda as a presidential candidate — effectively allowing a group run by a candidate’s former staffer to pay the same individual ad buyers paid by the campaign to make purchases at the same time where the only issue listed is supporting the candidate’s agenda. While some of the issues presented by the Trump campaign’s approach to outside groups may seem novel, Trump is hardly the only candidate with blurred lines between his campaign and outside groups supporting him. And in a political environment where many candidates face allegations of flagrantly violating campaign coordination rules without consequence, it’s unlikely his campaign will be the last to adopt this approach. NBA players supported ‘FREE MEEK’ movement after Eagles won Super Bowl 52

Major NBA stars like LeBron James, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Lonzo Ball all supported justice for Philly rapper Meek Mill.

The Philadelphia Eagles won Super Bowl LII in a thrilling, absurd 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots, and the victory turned into another platform for prominent athletes to support incarcerated rapper Meek Mill.

Meek Mill is a Philadelphia native, and his music turned into a rallying cry for the underdog Eagles, who ran onto the U.S. Bank Stadium field Sunday with the rapper’s “Dreams and Nightmares” blaring. Can you blame them? “Dreams and Nightmares” is an iconic album opener. That beat switch is hot enough that it could heat New York City for an entire winter if you hooked it up to the power grid.

Eagles players played Mill’s music after the game, but they also shouted “Free Meek Mill,” a rallying cry for justice.

What’s the story behind “FREE MEEK”?

Mill was convicted on drug and gun charges in 2008 when he was 18, and imprisoned. In 2009, he was released with a 10-year probation. In March 2017, Mill was arrested for misdemeanor assault in an incident involving airlines employees requesting photographs, and later that summer was arrested for “reckless endangerment” when popping wheelies on a dirt bike he owned. In November, Mill appeared before court summons and was sentenced to two to four years in federal prison for parole violation.

Mill’s defense says that his 10-year probation was both excessive and atypical in situations like his. “He’s been on probation for nearly 10 years. Nobody goes on probation for 10 years,” Mill’s attorney Joe Tacopina told CNN last November.

CNN also reported that the judge who sentenced Mill went against both the district attorney and parole officer’s wishes.

Tacopina said Brinkley went against the recommendations of the district attorney and Mill’s probation officer, who recommended “no incarceration for technical violations,” and accused Brinkley of “taking an inappropriate personal interest in (Meek Mill) that goes above and beyond her role as a judge.”

Mill is a beloved Philadelphia rapper, but his imprisoning has sparked serious criminal justice reform discussions. In November, Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins and former 76ers legend Julius Erving spoke to hundreds of protestors outside of Philadelphia’s Criminal Justice Center in response to Mill’s sentencing.

Mill’s lawyers say they are optimistic that Mill’s sentence can still be reduced or commuted entirely through appeal.

PHILADELPHIA — The Latest on Mychal Kendricks, the NFL linebacker charged with insider trading Wednesday and later released by the Cleveland Browns (all times local): 8:40 p.m.

Cleveland Browns linebacker Mychal Kendricks was released by the team Wednesday night, hours after being charged by federal prosecutors with insider trading.

Kendricks signed a one-year contract with the Browns in June after winning a Super Bowl title last season with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Earlier, U.S. Attorney William M. McSwain said Kendricks made approximately $1.2 million profit off illegal, nonpublic information in four separate major deals. Kendricks issued a statement admitting his guilt and apologizing. He expressed regret and accepted “full responsibility” for his actions.

Kendricks did not travel with the Browns for their Thursday night exhibition finale in Detroit, and the team decided to part ways with the 27-year-old after arriving in Michigan.

Kendricks is facing possible prison time and further discipline from the NFL for violating its personal conduct policy. — Tom Withers reporting from Cleveland. ___ 11:20 a.m.

Federal prosecutors in Philadelphia say Cleveland Browns linebacker Mychal Kendricks used insider trading tips from an acquaintance to make about $1.2 million in illegal profits on four major trading deals.

United States Attorney William McSwain says co-defendant Damilare Sonoiki was paid $10,000 in kickbacks as well as perks like tickets to Philadelphia Eagles games. Kendricks played for the Eagles before signing with the Browns in June.

Prosecutors say Sonoiki was a trader at an unnamed firm. An IMBD profile lists him as a writer on the popular TV series “Black-ish” as well as other movies and TV shows.

Kendricks says in a statement released by his lawyer Wednesday that he’s sorry and “deeply” regrets his actions.

He says he “didn’t fully understand all of the details of the illegal trades.”

A message seeking comment from the federal defender representing Sonoiki wasn’t immediately returned.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy says the league is reviewing the situation.

NFL notebook: Jets GM lauds Darnold, hints at possible QB trade

With Sam Darnold eyeing the New York Jets’ starting quarterback job halfway through the preseason, general manager Mike Maccagnan offered tremendous praise for the No. 3 overall pick on Monday.

“Of all the young quarterbacks I’ve been around, I’ve been exceptionally impressed by Sam,” Maccagnan said on WFAN radio. “Sam probably is at the top of that list.

.”.. Every day he goes out there, he gets a little better. He literally just turned 21 [on June 5]. He’s a very young person. But it’s all the stuff we knew about him coming out of college. All the stuff people thought about him there. His personality, his work ethic, the way he handles pressure. … That’s the thing that’s probably impressed me the most about the kid. He’s been really sort of unflappable.”

Maccagnan also indicated the team could be open to trading a quarterback, amid reports that Teddy Bridgewater is available. “We can very easily keep three quarterbacks, and if something were to arise, we can go with two if that’s the case,” Maccagnan said.

—Carson Wentz continues to ramp up football activity in practice, but the Philadelphia Eagles are not ready for expose their franchise quarterback in exhibition games.

Wentz, recovering from December surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL, participated in 11-on-11 drills on Sunday and was again part of workouts Monday. But Wentz said he won’t be on the field this week against the Cleveland Browns for the third, and typically most important, preseason game of the summer for the Eagles.

Wentz said “I feel really good where I’m at,” but stuck with his assessment last week that it will be “close” whether he is cleared for the regular-season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6.

—Josh Allen took a turn with the first-team offense in what the Bills envision as a rotation at quarterback with Nathan Peterman, and Allen will start Sunday in Buffalo’s preseason game against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals.

Head coach Sean McDermott said he would give both Allen and Peterman time with the starters as AJ McCarron seeks a second opinion on his injured collarbone. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, tests showed that McCarron’s collarbone is not fractured.

McDermott said the Bills are seeking a third quarterback with the expectation McCarron will miss significant time, but won’t rule out the former Alabama star until medical confirmation is received.

—The Dallas Cowboys got good news about All-Pro guard Zack Martin, but the status of center Travis Frederick remains up in the air after he suffered another stinger in practice.

Martin was diagnosed with a bone bruise and hyperextended knee, but the Cowboys expect him to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 9. However, head coach Jason Garrett told reporters that Frederick will see more experts in the Dallas area about his neck after suffering a stinger Monday, following a week in which he suffered multiple stingers.

Frederick, who saw a specialist in Los Angeles last week, will now see another on Monday and possibly another Tuesday, Garrett said. Previously optimistic about Frederick’s availability for the opener against the Carolina Panthers, Garrett was tepid when asked about it Monday, saying, “Hopefully he will be back real soon.”

—The Washington Redskins signed veteran running back Adrian Peterson, the team announced, adding depth to a backfield that lost rookie Derrius Guice for the season and has several other injured players.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but multiple outlets reported it is a one-year contract.

“I’m excited,” Peterson told the team’s website. “It’s been a long offseason but I’ve been keeping my body in shape and [I’m] ready for this opportunity. So when this opportunity presented itself, I was just excited.”

—Aaron Hernandez wrote suicide notes to his fiancee and attorney, who revealed the contents of the personal letters in a book “Unnecessary Roughness: Inside the Trial and Final Days of Aaron Hernandez.”

Jose Baez published the letters in his book, which outlines the circumstances and attempts to provide context to the final years of the life of Hernandez, who died at age 27 of apparent suicide in April 2017 while serving a life sentence for first-degree murder.

Hernandez addressed his fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins, in a note that the New York Post reported including a drawing of a noose on the end of a rope, saying “I told you what was coming indirectly” and adding, “Don’t shed one tear for I am with all of you and never wasn’t!”

—Baltimore Ravens cornerback Jimmy Smith is facing a multi-week suspension from the NFL because of an apparent violation of the league’s personal-conduct policy, The Athletic reported.

Per the report, the team is bracing for a suspension to be handed down soon and Smith is expected to appeal. He left the team over the weekend and was scheduled to meet with league officials Monday.

The report adds that Smith’s exact violation is unclear, but it could be connected to a child custody case between Smith and Micaela Sanchez, the mother of his first child. A story published in November by the Baltimore Sun included details by Sanchez of alleged domestic violence and drug use by Smith, which the Ravens veteran has denied.

—Two days after a roughing-the-passer call drew his consternation, then seemingly his understanding, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer said he anticipates major consequences to come from the NFL’s new helmet rules.

“It’s going to cost some people some jobs,” Zimmer said, per The Athletic. “Playoffs, jobs, the whole bit, I guess.”

Zimmer was visibly upset Saturday after Vikings linebacker Antwione Williams was flagged for roughing the passer on a sack of Jaguars QB Cody Kessler, though Zimmer said he understood why it was called after having time to reflect on it. However, he said he has asked the league for clarification on another call and has not been told anything about plans to relax the new helmet rule once the regular season begins.

—Chicago Bears outside linebacker Leonard Floyd had surgery Sunday after suffering a fractured right hand in Saturday’s preseason game against Denver, the team announced.

Head coach Matt Nagy said the team is “staying optimistic” about Floyd’s availability for the Sept. 9 season opener at Green Bay, but added that Floyd will likely be limited by a protective cast or padding when he gets back on the field.

“I don’t think it’s going to be healed (by Week 1),” Nagy told reporters of Floyd, who was injured while being cut-blocked against the Broncos. “I think he’s going to have to end up playing through it. It might require something in regards to having a cast or a club-type deal.”

—The Los Angeles Rams have extended starting right tackle Rob Havenstein on a deal that will keep him with the club through 2022, the team announced.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but according to ESPN, Havenstein will make $32.5 million over the four-year extension.

A second-round pick in 2015 out of Wisconsin, Havenstein has started in each of the 43 games he has played in his career. He was scheduled to make $976,367 this season in the final year of his rookie deal.

—Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham participated in his first preseason practice after being activated from the physically unable to perform list.

Graham is returning from offseason ankle surgery and said he expects to play in the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 6.

A hero of Philadelphia’s Super Bowl win over the New England Patriots with a strip-sack late in the fourth quarter against Tom Brady, Graham was a first-round pick out of Michigan in 2010. He is listed as the starter at left defensive end.

—Injured offensive lineman Menelik Watson is expected to be released by the Broncos, who will absorb his guaranteed $5.5 million salary for the 2018 season.

Watson was officially placed on the reserve/injured list by Denver on Monday. The team intends to release Watson once he passes a physical, according to multiple reports, which will likely be in a few weeks.

“I would speak more to our guys that are playing well, like Billy Turner and ‘Eli’ (Wilkinson). Those guys have played really well,” Broncos coach Vance Joseph said when asked about Watson, who signed a three-year, $18.3 million deal in March 2017. “It’s more about those guys than it was Menelik not being a fit.”

—The Seattle Seahawks shook up their kicking units by releasing punter Jon Ryan, the longest tenured player on the team, and kicker Jason Myers.

Ryan’s release comes after Seattle used a fifth-round draft pick on former Texas Longhorns standout and Ray Guy Award winner Michael Dickson in April. Myers, a free-agent pickup from Jacksonville, was competing with 40-year-old veteran Sebastian Janikowski for the placekicking job.

Ryan, 36, spent the past 10 seasons with the Seahawks, winning one Super Bowl title. The Canadian took to Twitter on Monday to thank the Seahawks organization and fans, saying, “Even though I’m leaving, I will always be a Seahawk.”

—Vikings rookie Daniel Carlson won the kicking job in Minnesota over Kai Forbath, who was released.

Carlson, the former Auburn kicker who nailed a 57-yarder in his preseason debut, was a fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Forbath had been the placekicker for the Vikings since Blair Walsh was released in 2016.

“We just figured it was getting close to the last couple preseason games. Kai did a great job while he was here, he’s a good kid. We just decided to go with Daniel,” Zimmer said.

—Cleveland Browns cornerback E.J. Gaines will be sidelined three to four weeks with a sprained knee.

The team announced Gaines’ injury on Monday after he left Sunday’s practice on a motorized cart, gripping his right knee.

Gaines’ right knee buckled as he tried to break up a pass to wide receiver Jarvis Landry. The cornerback crumpled to the ground and grabbed his knee as the team’s training staff and head coach Hue Jackson headed to the field to attend to him. Gaines acknowledged fans’ support as he was carted off.

—Mike Tirico will officially replace Dan Patrick as the studio host for NBC’s “Football Night in America.”

Patrick, 61, announced in March that he would not be returning to the program after saying that he turned down a five-year contract extension, telling the New York Post, “I didn’t want to do it and not love doing it.”

He will be replaced by good friend Tirico, who adds to a busy slate that includes doing play-by-play on Notre Dame games in addition to a number of other hosting duties. Tirico left ESPN in 2016, and has served as NBC Sports’ host for many of the network’s marquee sporting events, including the Olympics, the Triple Crown of horse racing and major golf tournaments.

—The Chicago Bears announced that the NFL suspended third-year safety Deiondre’ Hall for the regular-season opener after violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.

Hall will be allowed to practice and play with the Bears through the preseason. He will then be eligible to return to the team Sept. 10, the day after the Bears’ season opener in Green Bay.

A fourth-round pick in 2016, Hall has played in 10 games in two seasons, picking off a pass in eight games as a rookie before playing in only two games last season while fighting a hamstring injury.

—The Tennessee Titans placed cornerback Kalan Reed on injured reserve with a torn ACL and agreed to terms with defensive back Josh Kalu.

Reed is the third defensive back placed on injured reserve by Tennessee this preseason, following safety Jonathan Cyprien and cornerback Tye Smith. Cyprien went down to a knee injury during a non-contact play in practice, prompting the team to sign former New Orleans Saints first-round pick Kenny Vaccaro.

Reed was the final pick of the 2016 NFL Draft, dubbed “Mr. Irrelevant.” The 5-foot-11, 192-pound former Southern Miss standout is a former track star who was competing for snaps as a reserve in the Titans’ young cornerback group.

—The Detroit Lions placed linebacker Steve Longa on injured reserve with a torn knee ligament.

The team also cut veteran defensive lineman Cornelius Washington and cornerback Antwuan Davis, while signing cornerbacks Sterling Moore and Dexter McDougle along with offensive lineman Beau Nunn.

Longa was injured while pursuing New York Giants quarterback Kyle Lauletta on a touchdown run during the second quarter of Friday’s preseason game. Longa walked off the field, but was seen wearing a heavy brace after the game and tests confirmed the torn ligament.

—The Atlanta Falcons signed fullback Jalston Fowler and wide receiver Julian Williams, and waived fullback Luke McNitt and wide receiver Taj Williams.

A fourth-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in 2015, Fowler will compete with Ricky Ortiz for a roster spot in Atlanta. Falcons coach Dan Quinn indicated Sunday that Ortiz had pulled ahead of McNitt.

Fowler appeared in 42 games for the Titans, including eight starts, over the past three seasons. He has rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown on 10 career carries and added one touchdown on six catches.
