WIP Wednesday

First up is from a Whumptober drabble, Fifteen. Feed a Cold, Starve a Fever:

"Copernicus," he finally managed, coming out as a choked whimper. If there was any pretense of pride it was gone now, the terror too great, shaking him to the core while he gripped his brother's nightshirt.

"I'm here," he said breathlessly, rubbing his back. Under his breath he was muttering softly, mostly unintelligible, the way he always had when he was concentrating on something. It had always driven Cartesius crazy when they were young, but now it was just pleasantly familiar. "...burning up, oh, could fry an egg, and he's absolutely soaked with sweat already. Fever's too high; if this goes on much longer I don't know what..." Cartesius supposed his brother sounded worried, but the words were too blurry for him to focus on anyway; just hearing his brother's voice alone was comforting.

And because none of y'all are nearly as interested in those old birds as I am, here's a bonus WIP from a Blame Gravity-verse untitled fic featuring a very whiny, miserable Mads...

"Gyroooo!"

Gyro poked his head in the bedroom door, hiding mostly behind it. "Yes?"

Mads shot him a glare. "Get in here! It's food poisoning from that crappy takeout last night, not the flu! I'm not contagious!"

Gyro hesitated, hand still on the door. "Are you...sure about that, Mads? It's nearly Christmas and we've got a lot of invention orders, we can't afford for us both to get sick."

He yelped, ducking behind the door to dodge Mads's pillow before it collided with his face.

"I'm sure! I'm not sick sick, just in pain and miserable!" There was a pause, then a grumbled whine, in the most pathetic voice Gyro had ever heard. "And I'm lonely."
