ATOM Vol.1: Tyrantis Walks Among Us! An Honest Review
Tumblr media
I have long waited for the chance to read William Cope’s (AKA @tyrantisterror) giant monster mash passion project, and as of last Christmas I finally had my chance. The first volume of The Atomic Time of Monsters (AKA A.T.O.M.), Tyrantis Walks Among Us! is every bit the big fun love letter to classic giant monster movies from across both sides of the Pacific that the author has touted on his blog many times. However, although there is a lot of love that evidently went into this story, and plenty of fun to be read, I would not say it’s the best kaiju story I have ever seen, in print or otherwise. Of course, to expect perfection from anything is unfair, but it’s not perfection I’m looking for: it’s consistency. Consistency, particularly of ideas and presentation, has been one of the kaiju (the ever popular Japanese name for “strange/giant monster”) genre’s biggest problems since it first began—be it keeping worldbuilding consistent with themes, or keeping the quality of one shot of the giant juxtaposed monsters consistent with another. Sadly, readers will find that Tyrantis Walks Among Us, for all it’s charms and bravado, suffers from similar inconsistencies.
The premise of the first entry in the A.T.O.M. series follows many well-worn tropes from the standard giant-size creature: set in an offshoot of postwar 50’s world, a mysterious earthquake linked to nuclear testing has revealed a subterranean lost world filled with mysterious radioactive crystals and (what else) giant monsters to the world. As the menagerie of prehistoric creatures make their way across the surface, gobbling up and/or stomping on the unlucky extras in their path, the government scrambles to gain control of the unprecedented situation, sending in scientists, men in black, and the military. The heroes of the story are the sole scientist smart enough to understand the gravity of the situation, their intrepid band of friends, and the good giant monsters who befriend the humans while fighting off the bad monsters to protect their world. Opposing them are crooked government men who refuse to listen to reason and more menacing monsters driven by hunger or simple malevolence. What follows is a mash-up of almost everything giant monster movies prior are made of: giant monster fights, quirky humans bouncing off each other while trying to stop corrupt governments from worsening the situation, discovering strange lost worlds and encountering the creatures that inhabit them, and even encounters with alien and robot monsters.
What makes the seemingly formulaic Tyrantis Walks Among Us! stand out is it’s personality. The first volume of ATOM is an affectionate homage, but it’s also a something of a send-up and evolution of the giant monster movie. Not only is every giant monster trope treated with a mix of earnest excitement and tongue-in-cheek wit, embracing both the inherent impressiveness and absurdity of the subgenre in the same breadth (including more than a few references to a selection of giant monster films past, some more subtle than others), with a heaping helping of satirical edge in it’s depiction on atomic era America. Elevating this satirical edge is the colourful human cast, whose personalities, talents, and backstories make them some of the most memorable civilians you’ll ever see in a kaiju series while also giving the story its political punch. Dr. Mina Lerna, the human protagonist and paleontologist turned local giant monster expert, who grapples with sexism and ignorance in her quest to make her voice heard—a voice which is telling everyone to stop trying to kill every monster they see and listen to reason—and come out of her shell; Henry Robertson, an African-American reporter for the United Nations News Organization (a cheeky homage to the oft-maligned American cut of the original King Kong vs. Godzilla) who, with Dr. Lerna’s help fights back against the racial bias trying to keep him quiet to offer current and true coverage of the protagonist’s quest to unlock the mysterious of the kaiju; as well as Gwen Valentine, a spunky homage to activist actresses such as Marylin Monroe in her prime, who after being rescued from certain death in a monster-inhabited cavern, offers some much-needed close friendship, good publicity, and funds to Dr. Lerna and their cause. The more villainous humans opposing them also present some amusement and self-awarness, such as the mysterious vindictive government agent J.C. Clark who prioritizes secret government agendas over transparency and honesty, or “Doctor Brick Rockwell,” a machismo meathead straight out of a camp American monster movie who barely passes for a scientist hired as a talking head to perpetuate willful ignorance—as well as sexism—for the government amidst the monster situation.
Of course, this IS a giant monster story and the kaiju side of the cast deserves special mention as well. Despite being deriving from the all-too familiar archetypes you could expect from giant monsters (i.e. dinosaurs, insects, spiders, and reptiles on a giant scale), the monsters A.T.O.M. stand out from the crowd thanks to their colourful characteristics. The majority of which are “Retrosaurs”: alternate history based dinosaurs that evolved from Loricata, a group of ancient reptiles that included the first crocodylians, as opposed to birds and more or less resemble the terrible lizards as they were depicted in older illustrations such as those created by Charles R. Knight. Chief among them is the star monster, Tyrantis, a standard giant green fire-breathing dinosaur but with an out-and-out heroic complex and a goofy side, showing compassion for his fellow monster and human companions, as well as having a tendency to greet new friends and foes by boisterously charging into battle. Joining him are Tyrantra, a even more impressive red-hued female of Tyrantis’s genus, the tyrannopyrodon (i.e. the fire-breath-enabled Retrosaur equivalent to tyrannosaurs); Gorgolisk, a gigantic frilled serpentine creature who serves as the steadfast guardian of the Earth and the mysterious inhabitants of its hollow earth; and Bobo, a big pink and blue quasi-arachnid with a soft heart and a surprisingly playful disposition. The monsters opposing them are no slouches either, such as Ahuul, a ravenous pterosaur-like Retrosaur who takes sadistic delight in swooping down on smaller prey; Myrmidants, a swarm of gigantic fire ants who fight for their colony with equal parts duty and ferocity; and The Terror, a blue-tinted rival Retro  Tyrant who—without giving anything away—only becomes more of a monster as the story continues. Special mention also goes to a giant scorpion, a giant mothman-themed invader, a deadly duo of a giant wasp and mantis, and an entire island of Retrosaurs of almost every species.
However, as previously stated, for all it’s charming characters and progressive political statements, the first volume of A.T.O.M., like its forebearers, sadly falls prey to the issue of inconsistencies. Everything from the writing itself to the logic of this world suffers from occasional dips in quality to outright plot holes. The first and most noticeable is the abundance of grammatical errors, and while the majority of the novel is tightly written in very sense of the word, I couldn’t help but notice that every few pages there was incorrect punctuation or a misspelled word, which gave a somewhat rushed impression. Another oddity is the sexuality of Dr. Lerna who develops an affectionate attraction to Ms. Valentine, despite the author confirming in a post on the author’s blog made several years before the novels completion, claiming Lerna was aro-ace (found here)—this is more of a metatextual nitpick and if the author made her an asexual lesbian, it’s still quite a progressive choice in that it offers that minority some representation shows ace folk can still pursue romantic relationships—however, it still can’t help but think think it would have been just as valuable to give aro-ace people some representation as well, rather than seemingly backpedalling on a prior statement on a character’s sexuality. Another distraction is how the story seems to be at odds with itself over anthropomorphizing the monsters, where in some scenes they are written with fairly animalistic traits in mind, wherein others they treated as if they were almost cartoon characters. (e.g. Tyrantis breaks into caveman speak in a postscript picture to advertise some more other novels—relatively harmless but jarring nonetheless.) But the most bothersome inconsistencies by far are concerned with the science of the novel. Specifically, despite possessing a narrative that pushes for embracing science and learning, throughout the novel there are numerous instances where outdated biological and paleontological theories are treated as scientific truths, such as when Bobo’s inability to swim is chalked up to the old misconception that spiders breath through their skin and would drown when but in water. But the most damning example would have to be the Retrosaurs, who despite originating from a completely different evolutionary line, largely resemble past media depictions of dinosaurs more than anything else, inaccuracies at all. It could have been fascinating to explore how familiar species such as ornithopods and sauropods would appear if they were derived from ancient archosaurs (i.e. the grand group from which crocodilians originate). This discrepancies between artistic license and science makes it hard to tell just how much of the author’s intent for the origins of these alternative dinosaurs was driven more by a desire to replicate the aesthetic of prior depictions of prehistoric creatures and movie monsters than a wholly original exploration in speculative biology.
As critical as may be, I do not want to completely discount the author’s efforts. I enjoyed the first entry in the adventures of the mighty Tyrantis and the impeccable Dr. Lerna from start to finish. As a wholly affectionate parody of the great giant monster subgenre, it’s almost everything I could have wanted it to be! What’s more, I would like to see the ATOM series reach its full potential. However, due the author’s attitudes towards modern science and tendency towards error, I don’t know if this series will ever reach that potential. Tyrantis Walks Among Us! is good as a creative comical take on the classic kaiju story with a progressive sociopolitical punch, but as a scientifically conscious evolution of the genre that birthed it, it falls as flat as the tail of a Retrosaur, and it seems it will stay that way—sticking close to the ground and only occasionally swinging upwards.

Kong: Horror of the Deep
The sequel to Kong: Skull Island, this proposed film idea of mine more or less deals with the aftermath of Kong’s battle with Godzilla, whilst exploring how the emergence of Kaiju has led to a whole new black-market specializing in the trafficking of them and their parts.
Near or at the beginning of the film, we have Kong at Skull Island’s shore during the sunset. He flashes back to his battle with Godzilla, where he was nearly drowned (if this doesn’t happen in Godzilla VS Kong, this scene is cut out). It becomes clear that he’s grown some insecurities and trauma regarding the ocean, and Kong attempts to mitigate this by angrily yelling at the ocean and striking the water before retreating back. Frustrated, he tends back to his regular schedule, either as King of the Monsters or not.
HotD is meant to discuss Kong’s traumas regarding his previous battle, or at the very least how he has a glaring weakness when it comes to water, unlike his rival Godzilla. So, what better way to challenge our hero than to make him face off against an aquatic Kaiju, Ebirah?
(Obviously, this film’s existence acknowledges how Godzilla vs Ebirah was initially a Kong film. And, seeing as how we’ve already got plenty of potential Godzilla films, unlike with Kong, I decided to give this monster to him.)
The main conflict revolves around a criminal-terrorist organization, the Red Bamboo. Among their cast is Raul, a new hotshot who’s been rising through the ranks. Raul is meant to be an adaptation of Ryuui, and like his predecessor he has an eyepatch embroidered with the Red Bamboo insignia. It’s later revealed in the film that Raul is the same person we saw selling Kevin to Jonah at the end of KotM, with the red bandanas he and his crew were wearing as foreshadowing to this.
Raul’s motives are obvious- It’s a new world, and after the Oxygen Destroyer he and his community needed a way to survive. This eventually led to the inhabitants of Isla de Mara (or what was left of them) leaving room for the Red Bamboo to take over, with Raul himself joining. Raul is clearly bitter at the US for their usage of the Oxygen Destroyer, but otherwise he displays a casual, charismatic personality in his interactions. He’s clearly an economically-minded person who was forced by circumstance to do what it takes to survive, and he’s admitted this and embraced it.
Raul helps contribute to the Red Bamboo’s cause of buying and selling Kaiju DNA and parts, as well as arms dealing, smuggling, etc. Like Jonah, part of their political motives are ‘levelling the global playingfield’, especially when it comes to giving third-world countries nuclear weapons. It’s briefly discussed the pros and cons of this; Namely, allowing third-world countries power and leverage to fend for themselves, at the cost of Nuclear War possibly happening.
Still, the Red Bamboo is by no means a ‘good’ organization, and some of its kinder deeds stem either from an attempt to built a good image, and/or members who joined the group specifically to help out their homes. Either way, its main motive is profit and power. Their main base of operations is at Devil’s Island, which may or may not be shaped like it has horns. Either way, this is where all of their merchandise passes through, with some nuclear weapons even being manufactured at the base.
           The Red Bamboo manages to hide itself utilizing a combination of violent storms and advanced, state-of-the-art cloaking technology (Fun fact: This technology was given to them by Jonah in a trade). Like in the source material, the Red Bamboo maintains a tentative relationship with Ebirah that the crustacean knows nothing of;
Ebirah acts as a guard-dog of sorts, due to his territorial nature in patrolling the waters around Devil’s Island. Intruders or people escaping quickly find their boats torn apart by Ebirah’s powerful, cutting pincers before being devoured. Luckily, the Red Bamboo manages to circumvent this by having kidnapped slaves utilize the island’s fruits (possibly Durian) to form a foul-smelling concoction that keeps Ebirah at bay. Despite this, Red Bamboo sailors still get rather uneasy when passing through Ebirah’s domain.
Kong gets himself involved when some Iwi natives are kidnapped to be slaves in the concoction-making process. The main cast, consisting of Monarch agents and Iwi villagers, and/or some regular civilians, get wrapped up in their attempts to free their friends and uncover the Red Bamboo’s operations.
Kong’s soft spot for the Iwi makes him head towards Devil’s Island himself, either using the Hollow Earth or maybe even swimming there personally- The latter would be a bit of a character development. Either way, Kong and our human protagonists arrive on Devil’s Island. There, they get wrapped up in the Red Bamboo’s plots and antics. Mothra may or may not get involved when people from Infant Island are kidnapped.
Kong has an initial battle with Ebirah, which doesn’t go too well, but he barely manages to escape and isn’t badly wrecked. He devises a new strategy and plans, even swimming in Devil’s Island’s lakes to train and prepare for the rematch with Ebirah. Meanwhile, the human protagonists get messed up with the Red Bamboo. They discover Raul’s origins, and at one point we have a very brief snippt of a scene where the Red Bamboo leader is discussing with a client about shipments of hi-tech weapons and nukes (This is meant to be subtle foreshadowing towards Mechagodzilla).
One of the protagonists incites a subtle rebellion amongst the slaves that involves switching out the concoction that keeps Ebirah at bay with another one (As a joke, said protagonist has no problem with the fruit’s stench and even loves it). Meanwhile, Kong comes into battle with the Giant Condor.
           In this case, the Giant Condor is either;
A)  Like in the source material, an irradiated mutant of unnatural origins that is killed off.
B)  A natural Kaiju of the Titanus category, taking heavy cues from The Giant Claw and being named Okondoru, or Urodnoko. The Kaiju is beaten and sent fleeing.
C)  Literally Rodan, who arrived at Devil’s Island awhile back and was appeased by the Red Bamboo’s regular offerings of food. Rodan, surprised to see Kong, sees an opportunity and challenges him for the title of King of the Monsters. Big surprise, he gets his butt kicked and agrees to help Kong defeat the Red Bamboo.
Either way, the film’s climax culminates with an attack by Kong against the Red Bamboo. Try as they might, but the feared organization quickly finds themselves out of their weight-class in a hilariously one-sided battle against Kong. Kong easily thrashes the Red Bamboo while the human protagonists lead the slaves to freedom.
The Red Bamboo leader calls a retreat as he, Raul, and several other goons load a ship with precious cargo and start fleeing. When Ebirah begins to stir, they attempt to ward him off with the concoction, but surprise! It’s the fake one, and Ebirah casually lifts the ship into the air and slices it in half with his pincers, before turning his attention to Kong.
Recognizing his foe, Ebirah challenges Kong and vice-versa. Kong at first utilizes a strategy of hurling boulders and other debris at Ebirah, but the crustacean adapts and simply flicks it aside. Eventually, Kong dives into the water, fighting Ebirah on his turf. Utilizing his training and clever thinking, Kong gets the upper hand on Ebirah, eventually dragging him to the shore.
Cut off from the water, Ebirah finds himself out of his depth (Heh heh), struggling to adapt to dry land as Kong quickly defeats him. To finish off the fight, Kong straight up tears Ebirah’s claws right out of their sockets, one by one, before leaving his crippled foe to slink back into the ocean. Roaring and pounding his chest in victory, Kong grimly-proudly slurps up some of Ebirah’s meat before checking on the human protagonists.
Aaaannd… Cue happy ending! For now, at least… A post-credits scene reveals Raul barely clinging to some floating debris, apparently the only survivor from Ebirah’s attack. He opens up his eyepatch to reveal a tiny, orb-shaped device nestled in his empty eye-socket. Taking it out, Raul activates the device, sending out an emergency broadcast that attracts a helicopter with Jonah and his group inside.
Jonah picks up Raul, casually holding him at gunpoint as he muses on why he shouldn’t just torture him for information on the Red Bamboo. Raul keeps his cool, revealing to Jonah that the organization managed to manufacture a few nukes and get them off-island before Ebirah destroyed the rest, and he’ll happily put in a good word to the rest of the group in exchange for freedom.

Kaiju Profile
Name: Mothra
Films: Mothra (1961), Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964), Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (AKA, Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster) (1966), Destroy All Monsters (1968), Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth (1992), Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994), Rebirth of Mothra (1996), Rebirth of Mothra II (1997), Rebirth of Mothra III (1998), Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack (2001), Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. (2003), Godzilla: Final Wars (2004), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Mothra is a kaiju that first appeared in Toho's 1961 film Mothra and has appeared in several Toho films since, most often as a recurring character in the Godzilla franchise. She is typically portrayed as a colossal sentient caterpillar or imago moth, accompanied by two miniature humanoids, known as the fairies, speaking on her behalf. Unlike other Toho monsters, Mothra is a largely heroic character, having been variously portrayed as a protector of her own island culture, the Earth, and Japan. She is one of Toho’s most popular monsters, and second only to Godzilla in her total number of film appearances. Polls taken during the early 1990s indicated that Mothra was particularly popular among women, who were at the time the largest demographic among Japan's movie-going audience, a fact that prompted the filming of 1992's Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth, which was the best-attended Toho film since King Kong vs. Godzilla.
Mothra’s story starts out when she hatches from an egg on Infant Island after her priestesses, the twin fairies, are abducted by a Rosilican capitalist hoping to exploit them as media celebrities. And by exploit I mean keep them as slaves in a cage and force them to sing in nightly shows. But jokes on him because the song they sing every night is the song that awakens and summons Mothra.
The larval Mothra swims to Tokyo wrecking a lot of shit on the way and cocoons herself around the Tokyo Tower. After surviving having her cocoon set on fire and upon reaching her adult form, Mothra flies to Rosilica's capital and wrecks even more shit until someone finally shoots the bastard holding her priestesses captive and returns them to her. At which point she wishes peace and happiness upon humanity. Which sounds a little hollow considering she just finished killing countless people.
In her next appearance in Mothra vs. Godzilla, we see that Mothra reincarnates herself through her own offspring. When a Mothra egg appears on the coast of Japan, it is instantly exploited as a tourist attraction. Because I guess no one learned their lesson the first time. Mothra's priestesses attempt to negotiate the return of the egg to Infant Island, but are told to get lost. Then Godzilla attacks Japan, (who could have seen that coming?) forcing humanity to go running to a now embittered Mothra for help like a bunch of little bitches.
Tumblr media
Mothra shows up to help anyways. Maybe she was showing her benevolence by coming to the aid of those who scorned her, or maybe she just felt like she owed humanity one after all the people she killed in the last movie... But she ends up getting killed in the fight. But then two larvae emerge from the egg and defeat Godzilla by encasing him in a cocoon.
Tumblr media
In Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster, it is revealed that only one of the larvae survived. We can’t very well have Mothra reincarnated into two Mothras after all... King Ghidorah is in town doing what King Ghidorah does, so the remaining larva convinces Godzilla and Rodan (who are both still villains at this point in the series) to join forces with her in order to fight him, and thus it’s Mothra who converts Godzilla and Rodan to the status of heroes for the first time.
This movie has a strange but rather amusing scene where the humans are watching Mothra try to convince Godzilla and Rodan to help her and they have a whole argument about it while the fairies translate everything the monsters are saying for the human observers. It should also be pointed out that Mothra remains in her larva state through the entire movie.
The larva ultimately gains adulthood between movies and is back in her adult form when she appears in Ebirah, Horror of the Deep. But she spends most of the movie just lying around being sung to by her worshipers until the very end of the movie when she finally decides to get up and go save a group of slaves taken from Infant Island to a terrorist base on Letchi Island, just as the base is undergoing a self-destruct sequence. She doesn’t show up until after Godzilla has already taken care of Ebirah, promptly gets shot at by Godzilla (I guess the truce is over) and then takes off with the human cast, flying them to safety, leaving Godzilla to deal with the exploding island on his own.
Another larva appears in Destroy All Monsters, living alongside other monsters in Monsterland, never telling us what happened to the previous incarnation of Mothra or why she isn’t on Infant Island. Along with the other monsters, Mothra is briefly enslaved by the Kilaaks, who force her to attack Beijing and later join Godzilla in the destruction of Tokyo. The Kilaaks' mind control is ultimately broken, and Mothra joins the other monsters in the final battle against King Ghidorah.
Tumblr media
In Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth, it it revealed that Mothra is a guardian of the Earth who presided over an advanced civilization over 12,000 years ago. When the civilization created a device designed to control the Earth's climate, the Earth responded by creating the black Mothra, Battra - which Mothra defeated, but not before the civilization was wiped out. Another Mothra egg is discovered in 1993 on Infant Island by the Marutomo real estate agency, which seeks to, you guessed it... exploit it and Mothra's priestesses for profit. The egg hatches during a fight between Godzilla and a resurrected Battra, and the larva later attacks Tokyo in order to save its priestesses. You’d think they would have seen that coming...
Eventually Mothra attains her adult form, then briefly fights Battra, but this is after Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah and all of its time travel shenanigans, so Godzilla is back to being evil again. So Mothra and Battra finally bury the hatchet and join forces to fight Godzilla.
Tumblr media
Battra dies in the attempt, and Mothra pledges to fulfill Battra's role in preventing a meteorite from devastating the Earth in 1999. Because I guess that was a thing...
In Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, Mothra becomes aware of SpaceGodzilla's advance towards Earth while she’s off in space heading towards that meteorite, and sends her priestesses to warn Earth of his arrival. And that was it for her involvement in that movie.
The Rebirth of Mothra trilogy is an alternate universe separate from the Heisei continuity, and involves some stuff about Mothra being the last remaining member of a species of giant moths who guard the Elias' civilization, a dragon named Desghidorah, whom Mothra fights, and Mothra getting killed by Desghidorah only to be replaced by her son, Mothra Leo.
Tumblr media
In Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, we get classic Mothra back, but we are again in an alternate continuity where Mothra is portrayed as having been one of the three guardians of Yamato, originating 1,000 years before the events of the film. Mothra was imprisoned in Lake Ikeda, only to be reawakened in 2001 to halt Godzilla's destruction of Tokyo. She fights alongside Baragon and King Ghidorah (because he’s a good guy in this continuity apparently...) but she gets killed and transfers her spirit to King Ghidorah so he can finish the job.
In Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. the Mothra from the original 1961 film send her priestesses to demand that Japan dismantle the anti-Godzilla weapon Mechagodzilla or face destruction, as she considers the cyborg to be against the natural order, having been created using the bones of the first Godzilla. (Because if you missed it, the first Godzilla died a while back and Baby Godzilla took his place.) Shit doesn’t go well and Mothra attempts to fight the second Godzilla alongside Mechagodzilla, but is killed in the process. Then two larvae hatch on Infant Island, and reach Tokyo in order to fight Godzilla, whom they encase in a cocoon, (deja vu?) which is then transported into the ocean by Mechagodzilla.
Then we get Godzilla: Final Wars, which ignores the continuity of the previous film, because why not? It’s not like we finally just got the original Mothra back after 4 movies of alternate realities or anything... This time it establishes that Mothra protected the Earth 10,000 years ago from the cyborg Gigan. Sure... Whatever... In the distant future, Gigan returns, under the control of the Xiliens, and is confronted by Mothra. In the ensuing battle, Mothra catches fire, but manages to kill Gigan by ramming into it and exploding. She may die, but she dies like a badass.
And that will be the last we see of Mothra until the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters scheduled for 2019, which is again, a new continuity... Which only leaves me wondering... Whatever happened with that damned meteorite that was going to hit earth in 1999?!

Godzilla vs. Kong Ending Explained
https://ift.tt/3sGnP24
This article contains spoilers for GODZILLA VS. KONG. Read our spoiler-free review here.
As Godzilla vs. Kong enters its third act, multiple plotlines are coming to a head: an exploration team led by Dr. Nathan Lind (Alexander Skarsgard) and Dr. Ilene Andrews (Rebecca Hall) has followed Kong through a tunnel from Antarctica to the center of a Hollow Earth, the kingdom deep under the Earth’s surface from which Kong’s race and other Titans first originated.
A team of Apex Cybernetics personnel are also with them, and their goal is to discover a new power source in the Hollow Earth that’s strong enough to charge up Apex’s giant robot, dubbed Mechagodzilla. Once it has enough juice, it’ll be able to fight Godzilla and finish him off. This is of course the big twist of the finale, one that both explains why Godzilla went on a seemingly unprovoked rampage in Pensacola, Florida at the top of the movie, and which gives the big lizard and gorilla a common cause foe to defeat. It is also a twist that the MonsterVerse’s key recurring talent has been pursuing for quite some time.
“I had originally written Mechagodzilla into [the previous film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters],”says screenwriter Max Borenstein, who has worked on the scripts and/or stories for all four films in the MonsterVerse, beginning with 2014’s Godzilla. “It was very similar in the sense of being an opportunity for the human characters to have some agency against the scale of the monsters, which is one of the hardest parts of these stories.”
Although King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty eventually decided not to deploy Mechagodzilla in that film, Borenstein continues, “I was really happy that we had brought it back in Godzilla vs. Kong, because it felt like one of the main challenges of Godzilla vs. Kong is neither Godzilla nor Kong is a villain. We’re rooting in different ways for each.”
Meanwhile the power source in Hollow Earth is discovered when Kong charges his massive battle axe with it, making it impervious to Godzilla’s atomic breath. Apex CEO Walter Simmons (Demián Bichir) orders the head of the team, his daughter Maya (Eiza Gonzalez) to obtain the power source’s signature, but she and the rest of her team are killed when Godzilla attacks Hollow Earth from the surface, unleashing a horde of creatures below.
Nonetheless, Apex obtains the power signature before Maya’s demise, and at their Hong Kong headquarters, Simmons tells scientist Ren Serizawa (Shun Oguri) to use the power source to charge up Mechagodzilla, which Ren controls telepathically through the neural networks inside of a severed Ghidorah skull.
An enraged Kong returns to the surface where he and Godzilla clash in a massive battle amidst the skyscrapers of Hong Kong. Even though Kong can deflect Godzilla’s breath with his axe, the monstrous reptile proves too much for the massive primate, who is beaten nearly to death.
At Apex, Ren fires up Mechagodzilla despite his worries about the strength of the power source. His concerns prove correct, although he doesn’t live to see it: Ren is electrocuted and Mechagodzilla goes berserk, now partially controlled by the neural networks of the Ghidorah head. Mechagodzilla bursts out of its lab–killing Simmons in the process–and into Hong Kong, where it takes up the fight against an already weary Godzilla.

From Skull Island to Godzilla vs. Kong: A Complete MonsterVerse Timeline
By David Crow
Back in the ruins of the Apex lab, Madison Russell (Millie Bobby Brown), her friend Josh Valentine (Julian Dennison), and former Apex employee and conspiracy theorist Bernie Hayes (Brian Tyree Henry) desperately try to shut down Mechagodzilla.
At the same time, Lind and Andrews arrive and are able to revive Kong with the help of Jia (Kaylee Hottle), a young orphan who has a bond with Kong, and Jia persuades the ape to help Godzilla battle Mechagodzilla.
“It felt essential to have a third thing,” says Borenstein about having Godzilla and Kong team up against Mechagodzilla. “Round one goes to Godzilla, and round two goes to Kong. The question is in round three, rather than having one or the other win, how can we have the two of them develop a grudging respect for one another and go up against the third thing? Mechagodzilla felt like this perfect route into that.”
At first Mechagodzilla proves even too powerful for the combined force of the two former enemies, but thanks to Josh and Bernie briefly short-circuiting the robot’s control panel with a handy flask of liquor that Bernie always carries around, they buy just enough time for Godzilla and Kong to launch another assault. This time Godzilla fires up Kong’s axe with his breath, and the ape smashes Mechagodzilla to pieces with one mighty swing after another, finally ripping off its head and ending the threat.
“Neither Godzilla nor Kong were ever going to lose,” says Borenstein when we ask if there was ever a version where one of the two stars didn’t walk away. “There were different moments of how far we took it in terms of Kong taking a beating, but the two of them were always going to gang back up and work together.”
Warner Bros. Pictures
During the film’s closing scenes, Godzilla and Kong essentially call a truce, and Godzilla swims back into the ocean. He leaves Kong free to return to Hollow Earth, where the last we see of him, he’s ruling over the underground world with as much benevolence as a giant gorilla can muster.
As the ending of the film hints–echoing a theme that has run through all four films in the MonsterVerse–humankind is simply powerless in the face of the Titans, and any attempts to create our own defense, such as Mechagodzilla, is likely to blow up in our faces due to our hubris.
At the same time, the Titans themselves must cast off their old grievances and recognize the necessity to co-exist in peace on the planet, with each other, and hopefully with us. It’s a simple message, but the metaphor of Kong and Godzilla as forces of nature that we must respect, while acknowledging that we can do little to control them, is relevant to the many crises facing the world today.
“They reveal to us the fact that we’re all connected,” says Borenstein about the themes embodied by the legendary monsters “Godzilla and Kong, creatures of this scale that can hop around the world and touch everyone haphazardly and create tumult and chaos, reveal that in our globalized world, we are all connected for better and for worse. To me, that’s really what this movie is kind of all about.”
And it goes without saying that when those two forces of nature get in the ring, it makes for one hell of battle, even before a third opponent joins them. Godzilla vs. Kong delivers on its title and then some.
Godzilla vs. Kong is now playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max.

Godzilla VS Kong - FULL REVIEW (HUGE SPOILER ALERT)
Tumblr media
So I finished my third time watching Godzilla VS Kong (March 24 first, March 26 second, March 30 third). Since I grasped more of the story, visual, etc, so here I'll write my complete review of the movie. It's including the PLOT, so it will be a HUGE SPOILER.
But I’ll put the conclusion first here so you know what to expect for the movie:
CONCLUSION
It’s fast paced movie and more sci-fi than before. They totally delivered the monster-brawl scenes, the battle scenes are EPIC. It’s a movie for kids too, so please don’t expect a logical, life-changing, and meaningful story. Definitely a big screen movie.
For me it’s 9/10.  Thank you so much Adam Wingard & Legendary! You and the other Monsterverse directors are my heroes! Now before you keep reading: If you haven’t watched it, you are warned. Or else just stop. No complaining. Thank you!
First of all, I am Team Godzilla for this movie (but I love Ghidorah more than Godzilla). Second, this movie is more about Kong's character development. Despite the title, you'll learn that this movie is focusing more on Kong. It's fair enough since Godzilla has two movies already. So no problem at all! PLOT
Let's go to the plot first, I might misplaced some moments in the exact order but here it is:
Kong was in his research containment facility dome, in Skull Island. He made a bond with a little girl named Jia, who was the last kind of Iwi people. Kong saved Jia from a disaster that happened in Skull Island before. Jia is also taken care of by Ilene, who is spending her time researching Kong etc.
Kong felt like being held in captivity and he doesn't like that. Eventually, he tries to break out of the dome.
Meanwhile, there's a facility of APEX in Pensacola, Florida. Godzilla suddenly comes and destroys the whole place. Bernie, a conspiracy theorist, ex-APEX worker, infiltrated the facility and discovered Mechagodzilla's eye during the Godzilla attack.
Bernie broadcasts his titan's theory podcast, and Madison is a loyal listener. Madison argues with his dad that Godzilla's being provoked by something, but Mark refuses to listen.
Walter Simmons & Ren Serizawa approach Dr. Nathan, proposing him to lead an expedition into Hollow Earth. And Dr. Nathan said that he need a Titan as both guide and guardian for the expedition. It ended up Dr. Nathan convinced Ilene to bring Kong along, saying that it would help humanity and Kong will find his true home. So they sedated Kong and bring him with an aircraft carrier and heading to Antarctica, the entrance to Hollow Earth. Maia, Walter's daughter hop aboard the carrier as APEX ambassador or something.
Kong finally reveals that he can communicate with Jia with sign languages.
Madison and Josh off to find Bernie. They are trying to find out the reason why Godzilla went rampage. Ended up they sneak into the Pensacola facility.
On the next day, Godzilla spotted Kong's squadrons. I'm pretty sure Kong is not in a sedation state like before. The human attack Godzilla first. Then Godzilla attack the human and Kong. They release Kong from his chain in the hope for theirs and Kong's survival. The humans helped Kong a lot but Kong still really at a severe disadvantage. Godzilla nearly drowned Kong but the humans help to distract Godzilla with some sort of bombs. Kong barely survives and lying weak on the ship. And then they played dead to escape from Godzilla, making Godzilla thinks he won. Godzilla leaves.
Madison and friends sneak into the facility and ended up inside a Skullcrawler eggs cargo. The facility sends the cargo to Hong Kong.
Kong was transported to Antarctica with choppers. He and the rest of Jia's team finally go into Hollow Earth. They are flying by HEAV.
In Hollow Earth, Kong fights with 2 Warbats. While he took the first one easily, the other Warbat takes the upper hand against Kong. But then humans help him by shooting missiles. Kong killed the Warbats, enjoying the head as his snack.
Kong and Jia's team finally reached a place that looks like a throne. There he got his axe and sitting on the throne. He put the axe on the ground and the axe charging itself with something that looks like Godzilla's atomic breath power.
Meanwhile in Madison and the team arrived in Hong Kong. They were led to a giant demonstration room for Mechagodzilla. Mechagodzilla got activated, piloted by Ren through the Ghidorah Skull. One Skullcrawler was thrown into the room for a fight test with Mechagodzilla. The mecha easily sliced Skullcrawler in half with his red laser beam, but then the mecha is out of energy and shutting down. They require more power to complete Mechagodzilla, which is that blue energy in Hollow Earth.
Mechagodzilla activation somehow caught Godzilla's attention.  He then swam to Hong Kong to look for the machine. There, he is probably connected to Hollow Earth’s blue energy and then he shot a mind-blowing atomic breath to the ground. And yes, it cut through the earth's surface all the way into Hollow Earth. Yeah, crazy.
Maia received the sample of the blue energy and sending the data online to Mechagodzilla's cockpit. She threats Jia, which causes Kong to get mad. Kong screams and the little bird-like monsters flying over the room to eat the humans. Maia tries to run but eventually got killed by Kong.
Godzilla's atomic breath suddenly blows through the room and surprises everyone inside. Kong then took his charged axe and leaves Hollow Earth to fight with Godzilla.
Godzilla is about to walk away from the giant hole (or tunnel) he made with his atomic breath. Kong jumped out and challenge him for another round. This time with his axe.
The second battle happens, Kong gives a good fight. The long battle scene ended with Kong using his magnificent axe to hit Godzilla's head like what we saw in the trailer. It did knocks Godzilla down, but also does throw Kong far away. Dr. Nathan said, "Looks like round 2 goes for Kong." but I personally don't see it like that. Why? Because in just around a minute (or less), Godzilla stands up like nothing happens (I'll have details about this later) while Kong is getting ready up in the building to jump like a wrestler. The battle continues but likes for only a minute or so. Godzilla attacks like a beast, and it ended up Godzilla stomping Kong's chest. They roar at each other as we saw in the trailer, but Godzilla spared Kong and he leaves Kong dying.
Madison and friends got caught up by APEX and they were brought to meet Walter. Walter explains that Mechagodzilla is the true alpha, an APEX. Since they got the data from his daughter, they can now fully activates Mechagodzilla. Ren refuses for security reasons but Walter insists.
Mechagodzilla got activated. But it has malfunctioned and goes rampage on its own. Killing both Walter and Ren. Madison and friends watch Mechagozilla breaking out of the facility and wreaking havoc in the city.
Godzilla who seems to be still wandering around looking for his target finally sees Mechagodzilla. They engage in battle.
The dying Kong got revived by Dr. Nathan, blowing HEAV as defibrillator on his chest. Jia then tells Kong that his enemy is not Godzilla, but Mechagodzilla. Kong fixes his broken left arm and helps Godzilla.
Godzilla really at a terrible disadvantage against Mechagodzilla. Just the moment before Mecha about to do Kiss of Death to Godzilla, Kong jumps off and saves him. They both finally teamed up together to fight Mechagodzilla.
Mecha is about to drill Kong's head. Then Josh uses the alcohol to break down the computer that connects to Mechagodzilla. Mecha's drill tail stopped functioning, Godzilla shoots his atomic breath to Kong's axe, charging the weapon with his energy. Kong delivers the final blow to MechaG and pulled the mecha spine out of its body. Then he fell to the ground, exhausted from the battle.
Madison reunites with his dad. Dr. Nathan, Illene and Jia are about to take a rest for a while, but suddenly Godzilla roaring again and stands up. Kong stands up in super exhausted condition, he roars back while Godzilla keep getting close. Until Godzilla stands still, Kong looks at his axe and then he drops it. Godzilla roars one more time and swims back to the sea.
The movie ends with Kong finally back home in Hollow Earth and seemingly becomes the King there. And the humans finally built a facility there.
The battle analysis, who is stronger and the winner according to the movie.
Since I’ve watched it three times, I paid more attention to the visual aspects. Monster expressions and stuff. I'll write down some points here from what I saw that might clarify some things:
Their expressions and gesture. Kong expresses his feeling like humans. He expresses fear, panic, and pain when battling with Godzilla. It's obvious and undeniable. First, when Godzilla stomps Kong in the second battle, Kong's expression truly breaks my heart. You'll get to think like "Okay Godzilla, enough." or at least I did. Second, right after the battle with MechaG finished, Godzilla is standing up and roaring, and Kong immediately getting ready. But you can tell when he’s holding the axe, he's in fear since he's very exhausted. You'll get sympathetic with Kong, you just can't help that. Godzilla on the other hand only expresses angry, angry, and angry expressions. And angry again. The only time we see him in fear is only when he was saved by Kong from MechaG who is about to kill him with Kiss of Death. He also in pain when MechaG hits him with the red beam. Oh, he also grins when his atomic breath hits Kong. Please pay attention to their expressions, it does say a lot!
The battle damages. While Godzilla does split some blood when he got hits by Kong, the fact that the atomic axe epic blow did almost nothing serious to Godzilla really surprised me. Godzilla did knocked out by the blow, just to rise up again in the next minute. You just can't see serious battle damage on Godzilla despite his legs got stabbed by the axe, or after getting that epic atomic axe blow. Nothing to be seen, nothing. We even a close up shot of Godzilla’s face after that, like literally no damage to be seen. And I say that those two are the most critical hits given by Kong that pisses off Godzilla. However, you can tell that Godzilla is in big trouble once he fights the OP MechaG. Compare how impactful that fully charged atomic axe final blow to MechaG’s red beam damage. Atomic axe explodes EXACTLY in Godzilla’s face and you can’t see any damage in his face when we have a close up shot of his face later on. While MechaG’s red beam hits Godzilla on his chest and the damage looks obvious, even Godzilla expresses pain. Yes, did I mention that expressions will say a lot before? Kong, on the other hand, has obvious battle damages from Godzilla's fight and even more so when fighting with MechaG.
Kong really gives a good fight. Kong lands many hits to Godzilla but you won’t find one that can throw the lizard away. In the other hand, Godzilla sent Kong flying more than one time. Kong uses a circle rooftop of a building as his shield like a buckler to defend himself from atomic breath, that was awesome movie shot indeed! Godzilla undeniably stronger but I gotta give props for all Kong’s agility and cool maneuvers! I mean, he has those human-like heroic moves!
In terms of intelligence and thinking. I believe Godzilla also analyzes his fight with Kong, while this is just my opinion. Godzilla learned that Kong’s axe can absorb his atomic breath. That is probably why he goes to feral mode and not using his atomic breath but instead moves so fast to play at the same pace with Kong. YET I don’t believe that Godzilla is roaring to make Kong bows to him. It’s more likely he is telling Kong that he’s not looking for him, so just stay away. And Kong’s respond is just being like a kid who will never listen to everyone (except Jia).
Adam Wingard said there is one winner, then I clearly see what he meant. Godzilla will fight Kong in 2 matches;
A. Aircraft carrier scene where Kong almost drowns by Godzilla. Note that Kong only got sedated on the first day he was brought to the carrier. When Godzilla comes, he was in full force already but the humans just still locked him. Unbreakable chains due to sedation effect? Well, even in full stamina Kong find it hard to pull out his axe from the building right after he missed his first attack in Hong Kong.
B. Hong Kong battle where Godzilla stomps him. If you watch carefully, note that Godzilla was not intended to fight Kong. He’s about to walk away to seek for his true target, yet Kong roars at him. Godzilla only bluff with his tail slap to the ground, only to get an intimidating response from Kong. Who charges first? Kong.
Godzilla won both, but the second round will have a clearer outcome.
So the winner of the battles is definitely Godzilla. BUT... Kong’s level of expressions and the way of how the plot goes, Kong is definitely the STAR/HERO in the movie. I mean we can see Godzilla does grin (for the first time ever) after he hits Kong with his atomic breath. In the other hand, we see Kong smiles when he eats a lot of fishes during the Aircraft Carrier. From here, we can see which one is more brutal and which one is more adorable. That is why I said Kong is like a kid. I admit I am Team Godzilla all the way, but I can’t help to like Kong after watching this movie.
Yes, the movie starts with Kong and it ends with Kong.
MECHAGODZILLA
Let’s come to Mechagodzilla. Starting from his design.
He looks like a hybrid of Terminator x Godzilla. He has long arms, incredibly powerful red laser beam, missile launchers, drill-tail, and some sort of jet-pack booster on his back. He is definitely bigger than Godzilla, and the strongest of all these three. He easily split Skull-crawler into half. Like, literally OP.
Logically you can argue Godzilla is tired after his fight with Kong, but the visual indicates the opposite (look at how he still in a prime condition during daylight, I’ve watched the movie three times and I’m failing to miss any obvious battle damage after his second fight with Kong). But well, Godzilla has no chance against MechaG anyway.  It’s a fact that if not because of the humans, MechaG would kill both Kong and Godzilla. He is KO-ing Godzilla first and right after that, he is about to make a hole on Kong’s head with his drill-tail. I feel like MechaG needs more screen-time, but well, the title is Godzilla VS Kong so it’s understandable.
It’s lovely to be able to see Ghidorah (Kevin) skull in the movie by the way. MechaG cockpit was indeed Ghidorah’s skull. Good homage to the original movies. Just to remind you again that I was more into Ghidorah than Godzilla. HUMANS
Team Kong: Jia, Ilene, and Dr. Nathan. Transporting him here and there, help the Kong’s fight against Warbat and Godzilla, etc. They really support Kong to the fullest. As for Jia, SHE IS THE HUMAN STAR. Her relationship with Kong reminds me of Toothless and Hiccup. Very innocence and pure-heart. Sounds like the main protagonists? Because they are in my opinion.
Team Godzilla: Madison, Bernie, and Josh. Godzilla barely got help from humans. Ouch. Madison and her friends are not helping Godzilla in a meaningful way like humans did to Kong. Instead, they are just investigating what is actually going on and have faith that Godzilla is not the bad guy. Team Mechagodzilla: Ren, Walter and Maia. This is not official, I just made it up since they are the APEX guy. They are the one who responsible for Godzilla’s rampage. Walter is the owner of APEX and Maia is his daughter. Ren is the pilot of Mechagodzilla. The name APEX seems to represent that human is actually the ‘apex species’.
But here’s the thing, Josh and Bernie (Team Godzilla) who were actually saved Kong from MechaG. When MechaG is about to drill Kong’s head, they are the one who throws alcohol into MechaG consoles, making the MechaG goes malfunctions. During that scene, Godzilla is already knocked out.
I have to disagree when people said the humans had nothing to do with the plot. No, they played big role for the monsters. They helped Kong a lot, and they help us to understand Kong’s character development. They also build MechaG, so technically they help us to to Godzilla went rampage. They are the actual trouble. hahaha HOMAGE ELEMENTS
1. In TOHO movie Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II; MechaG was built based on the corpse of MechaGhidorah. Here MechaG is piloted through Ghidorah skull.
2. Eat your vegetables. Kong made Godzilla eat his Axe handle.
BATTLE RESULT:
1. Aircraft Carrier: Godzilla leaves while Kong is lying weak on the aircraft carrier.
2. Hong Kong: Godzilla leaves while Kong is dying.
3. MechaG: Godzilla & Kong had to team up. But Godzilla is the underdog here. Kong does the final blow to MechaG, thanks to Josh and Godzilla.
4. Post MechaG: Kong drops his axe and stays silent. He’s not even punching his chest. Godzilla took the final roar and leaves. Kong then happily jumping around in Hollow Earth, there he does punching his chest. Godzilla won against Kong on their 1v1 rounds, but Kong is undeniably the main-star and the hero. He won people’s heart, including me as Team Godzilla. I’m happy that he finally got his home and kingdom to rule in Hollow Earth.
THINGS THAT IS NOT MY CUP OF TEA
It’s too personal, but the act where Kong explores Hollow Earth is not really my cup of tea. It still works fine for me, but once the Warbat fight scene is over, I think it became the low point of the story. Probably because the pace is really fast before and suddenly it goes really slow. That is the only flaw for me personally. Other than that, I’m good!
PLOT-QUESTIONS
There are few plot questions that hopefully have the answers if the Monsterverse continues:
1. When Kong and his team enter Hollow Earth, they are going through some sort of wormhole. But when Godzilla shot his Atomic Breath from the Earth’s surface straight into Hollow Earth, does it cut through the wormhole? Because if it does, then Godzilla’s Atomic Breath is insane.
2. What happened to the previous titans that were stated ‘defeated’ at the opening of the movie? 3. Kong’s Axe origins and that glowing Godzilla symbol that circles in Hollow Earth?
And for the final question, I got it from my friend but I find it pretty interesting;
4. The humans explain alpha titans here and there. Well, that is according to humans. BUT who is the true alpha according to the titans themselves?
All in all, it’s a blast to see the movie. You should watch it on the BIG SCREEN. And to end this review: Long live the King. And by king I mean the Atomic Lizard.~

Godzilla vs Kong 2021 Film Online
Tumblr media
Did the monkey just talk we need Kong the world needs him godzilla will come for him  that would be a death sentenceI know chia is only a child she's the only  one he'll communicate with and we need Konghere we go this won't end  until one of them submits  are you sure the monkey's gonna survive  this it's us I'd worry aboutoh my god this is so massiveand this child she's the only  one he'll communicate withwe need kong the world needs  him to stop what's comingit's godzilla
Tumblr media
These are dangerous times godzilla's  out there and he's hurting people  and we don't know why there is something  provoking him that we're not seeing here  the myths are real there was a war  and they're the last ones standingWelcome back everyone this is going to be my new  godzilla versus kong trailer video they dropped a  bunch of new footage so we'll break it all down
If you're brand new to the channel be sure to  subscribe to get all the videos i will be doing  more videos for the movie when it comes out at  the end of the month too just a couple more  weeks to go but the new footage starts with  that full scene of godzilla showing up to fight  kong on the carriers earlier in the movie the  air force pilots try to slow him down with their  standard missiles but he just soaks the damage  and then swats them away like they're a couple  of flies even though we all expected this it's  hilarious how quickly he just blows through all  their ordinance all the battleships open fire on  him i think these are the 50 caliber guns i'm not  totally sure about that but they just want you to  see that they're unloading everything they have  on him as he swims up while they're carrying kong  predictably he uses his tail to smash through  two of the ships like it's no big deal one of the  anchors catches on his body and he takes half of  the ship for a ride underwater then you have kong  grabbing the other side of the anchor chain  and reeling it in like it's some kind of crazy  fishing line like he's fishing for godzilla's
Tumblr media
Got a real big one this time gotta bring it in  then godzilla comes swimming up to kong's ship  then presumably this is right before a kong  peeps over the side of the ship screams into the  water then godzilla surprises him by launching out  of the water and on to the top of the ships then  they start duking it out and kong winds up going  into the water floundering for a second until  he gets his bearings and if it wasn't clear  kong can swim at least canonically he can swim  we just haven't seen him do it in any of the  new films so far in the monster verse it's just  the whole idea with this first carrier fight is
They're trying to show you is that godzilla has  the big advantage because he's just at home in  water as he is on land in fact just because of  the way his body is because the way he carries  his weight around when he's on land i would  say he's actually a better fighter when he's in  water because he can still give off all the same  attacks when he's underwater he can still do his  atomic breath he can still do his atomic burst  all of his physical attacks work the exact same  but when he's in water he's not forced to carry  all that weight around with him so it's not quite  as much of a disadvantage the only real titans  that would have a big advantage on him in deep  water would be like your true water-based titans  like a giant octopus the director of the movie did  actually say there would be a clear winner in the  godzilla vs kong fight but here's the thing  with that i think he was specifically talking  about this first fight on the carriers here
Tumblr media
I don't think he was talking about the entire  movie because there's clearly a bunch of different  fights during the film like first when they go  to pick up kong there's a couple fights in the  movie just to set up how badass he is then you  have the carrier fight with godzilla and kong  earlier in the film then you have all this footage  of the later fights when they're in the cities  and there's a couple different fights like  you have godzilla versus kong in the cities  then you have the whole idea of godzilla versus  mechagodzilla than the inevitable team-up where  godzilla vs kong 2021 tag team mechagodzilla early  prediction before they both go their separate  ways similar to the ending of the 1960s king kong  vs godzilla movie you guys can let me know in the  comments though if you actually legit think that  at the end of the film after the final fights are  done after they take care of mechagodzilla there  will be a clear winner godzilla or kong
Tumblr media
The way  they're hyping it up though they make it seem like  kong goes down hard during this carrier fight like  godzilla is the clear winner but then kong rallies  later in the film and has a much better showing  during the mechagodzilla fight so by the end  of the film when he has a special axe and helps  take down mechagodzilla he comes out seeming like  more of a winner than he did earlier in the film  post all your theories about what that  means for godzilla during the film though  but then you have a bunch more footage of the  battles and some more footage of the hollow earth  which actually looks pretty fantastic you have  a little girl communicating with kong who's kind  of adopted her in his own giant way this footage  here is a little too dark so i can't tell exactly  which city godzilla's swimming up to this might be  one of the scenes where godzilla goes looking for  mechagodzilla and starts attacking these cities  or makes it seem like he's attacking cities and  they try to play it that way but really he's just  looking for where they're keeping mechagodzilla  to try and take it out and because it does seem  like they're going to continue with the godzilla  franchise just because it seems like they're  going to renew their license with touhou i am  wondering if they're ever going to do easter eggs  for godzilla offspring as well like maybe in some  of these future films you'll have people trying  to steal godzilla's offspring and then that's what  really pisses them off but i think most of the  idea in this film godzilla versus kong is that  godzilla is trying to get rid of mecha godzilla  then there's a bunch more footage of a couple of  the other different battles the carrier battle
Then later in the movie in one of the cities  then a couple new scenes from that bigger fight  scene of godzilla vs kong 2021 inside what looks  like hong kong amongst all the neon signs with  him opening up in his atomic breath while kong is  using his new axe to absorb the energy it's hard  to tell when this hollow earth scene takes place  but i'm assuming it's earlier in the film when  they come to take kong they did see during this  movie we're going to learn more about the ancient  war of the titans like the ancient rivalry that  they keep referring to during all these trailers  that kong and godzilla had then you get that tag  scene of millie bobby brown and the others inside  the monarch facility and then that scene of them  just giving each other the classic challenge just  screaming in each other's faces like come on bro  bring it there were also some new images of  mega godzilla and some of the promo materials  as you would expect he's way more hardcore than  the classic versions of the character if this is  accurate
It seems like it's pretty accurate to  what he looks like in the film just modernizing  him the same way that they modernized the designs  for kong godzilla and all the other titans in the  new films a lot of you were also commenting on my earlier trailer videos too about how they tweaked  godzilla's design just a little bit because in the  earlier films at least in the newer monster verse  films like king of monsters his eyes don't light  up quite so much when he gives off his atomic  breath i'm assuming they're just doing that to  make him pop on screen just a little bit more  but a couple other details that we just learned  about the movie is that this first big godzilla  vs kong carrier fight lasts for 18 minutes but i  think that includes all the setup all the lead up  and then the aftermath as well it's not just 18  minutes of them punching and biting each other  that would be crazy like make all the jokes you  want about that epically long rowdy roddy piper  and keith david fight scene from they live it  just goes on and on forever but in all this  trailer footage when they keep talking about this  ancient history of the titans and the wars that  they had revealing more about the ancient cultures  that worshiped them as gods they're mostly talking  about godzilla and kong's ancestors like these  virgins that are fighting in this movie that we're  watching are just the latest generation of these  titans best example of that is during kong skull  island we saw the skeletons of kong's dead parents  the whole idea too the longer they live the bigger  they get so that's why kong is getting so much  bigger like he was a really young character  during the 1970s in that first kong skull island  movie godzilla would just keep getting bigger  and bigger the longer he lived so when they talk  about them being ancient rivals they're talking  about the rivalry between their two species for  the last several thousand years also if you guys  didn't see talking more about skull island stuff  future of the kong character netflix is actually  doing a skull island anime series they call  it anime but i think it's just anime inspired  it's being animated by powerhouse they're the same  company that does the netflix castlevania series  which is top tier animation it's also very anime  inspired but it's not actual anime
Tumblr media
No idea when  they're dropping episodes of that or which part  of the timeline it's going to take place in or  how it's going to fit into the canon i think it's  pretty safe to assume it'll take place sometime  before the events of godzilla vs kong and they'll  just use it to introduce a couple of new titans  and just a big reminder too because theaters are  starting to reopen if there are theaters near  you that are open they might actually be playing  the movie because they're releasing it on hbo max  and in theaters on the same day where theaters are  open but later this month we also have the justice  league snyder cut coming that's on march 18th and  then the day after that marvel's falcon and winter  soldier series drops on disney plus and i'll be  doing episode videos for that too so there is a  lot a lot of really big really cool stuff coming  this month 2021 looking so much better than 2020  so far if there are any other big easter eggs that  you spotted in this trailer footage that i didn't  talk about in the video just write them below in  the comments and i'll do more godzilla versus kong  trailer videos when they drop more footage while  you wait for everything click here for my brand  new Wandavision episode 9 trailer video and click  here for all my Wandavision finale predictions  thank you so much for writing everyone  stay safe and i'll see you guys tonight!

Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ viral website seems to confirm Kong: Skull Island’s pivotal Hollow Earth Theory. This further unifies the shared MonsterVerse and shows how cleverly the brain trust at Legendary Pictures is plotting the intricate backstory of a world inhabited by giant monsters called Titans - a group that includes Godzilla and Kong.
The Hollow Earth Theory is part of Skull Island’s backstory. It was introduced by William Randa (John Goodman), a senior official of Monarch, the clandestine agency dedicated to tracking and cataloging the kaiju, which were then referred to as M.U.T.O.s - massive unidentified terrestrial organisms. In 1973, Randa led a joint Monarch/LandSat/U.S. Army expedition into the unexplored Skull Island and encountered Kong, the island’s 104-foot ape defender. Skull Island was infested with other creatures, the worst of which were the Skullcrawlers, killer beasts that came out of holes beneath the island. Before his unfortunate death, Randa explained Monarch’s Hollow Earth Theory: that there are enormous caverns beneath the planet which house untold numbers of M.U.T.O.s. Skull Island was a gateway for Skullcrawlers to escape, but there must also be others scattered around the planet.
Related: How Monarch Can Be Better Than Marvel’s SHIELD
The Monarch Sciences website allows fans to track Godzilla’s movements on a global map. After visiting San Diego for Comic-Con in July, Godzilla spent the next few weeks swimming west across the Pacific Ocean, where he passed by Skull Island as he continued his mysterious trajectory. Once he reached the Mariana Trench, east of the Philippines and South of Japan, Godzilla then mysteriously vanished. The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of the world’s ocean, so there’s only one answer to how Godzilla suddenly vanished from the map: he dove and swam downward into the Mariana Trench.
advertising
Godzilla has since magically resurfaced thousands of miles west of Indonesia and then turned south, swimming to Antarctica. To do this, Godzilla must have traveled beneath the entire length of Indonesia. The only way he could have achieved this maneuver is through enormous caves underneath the surface of the planet, which confirms the Hollow Earth Theory. The Mariana Trench (which also figures prominently in The Meg) must be another major gateway into the hollow earth. Godzilla’s feat also tells fans a little something more about the Big G: to be able to navigate the deepest parts of the ocean and beyond, where there is no light, Godzilla must possess the ability to see in the dark.

As for why Godzilla is en route to Antarctica, his destination is the location where King Ghidorah is buried in a wall of ice. Ghidorah is the Big Bad of the Titans whom Godzilla, along with Rodan and Mothra, will face in the sequel - perhaps to determine once and for all which kaiju deserves the right to be called the real King of the Monsters. Ghidorah also figures prominently in Godzilla 2 as one of the Titans a mysterious organization who kidnapped Monarch scientist Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) wants to release as part of a mysterious plot to save humanity from a mass extinction.
Though William Randa died decades before the events of Godzilla 2, his backstory also links to Godzilla’s recent movements on the map. In 1943, Randa was the sole survivor of a monster attack on the U.S.S. Lawton in the vicinity of the Mariana Trench. This incident led to mankind’s discovery of the Titans and the inception of Monarch in 1946, with the mission of “discovery and defense in a time of monsters”.
Godzilla won’t fight Ghidorah until Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theatres in May 2019, so it will be interesting to monitor the Monarch Sciences site to try to determine why the giant lizard is visiting Antarctica now. Godzilla’s further movements across the globe may see him again periodically vanish, so when he does, fans now know it’s because he’s traversing the hollow earth.
