The USAF aircrew of the Mach 2 strategic bomber Convair B-58 Hustler, nicknamed “The Firefly”, pose at the Paris Airport apron near the plaque that commemorates the landing spot of Charles Lindbergh’s first solo trans-Atlantic flight in May 1927. Left-to-right: Major William R. Payne, Aircraft Commander, Captain William L. Polhemus, Navigator, and Captain Raymond R. Wagener, Defensive Systems Officer, won the Harmon and Mackay Aviation Trophies for this flight. Since the Rolex GMT Master was designed for the airplane industry, it ought not to be surprising that the development of this fine watch included Pan Am. We can take a lesson from that piece of history. We should always be aware of the people who will benefit from our actions and understand them a little bit better. Otherwise, our efforts might all be for naught. Have a wonderful day. ::::::::: ROLEX GMT MASTER PEPSI - Old stock, no longer available for sale #rolex #rolexgmt #gmtmasterpepsi #rolexgmtmaster #rolexwatches #rolexvintage (at Bert Levi Family Jewelers and Jewelry Buyers) https://www.instagram.com/p/CLbCu8UF_nK/?igshid=7nuuhqmfoyjn

NASA astronaut Alan Shepard and “ Freedom 7 “ May 5, 1961 Mercury Seven astronaut, Naval aviator Alan Bartlett Shepard made a sub-orbital spaceflight onboard the one man Mercury Redstone 3 capsule nicknamed “Freedom 7″. The capsule reached an altitude of 188 kilometers before splash-down in the North Atlantic Ocean. After a 15 minutes flight, Alan Shepard, who didn’t wear a wristwatch on this flight, and his capsule were recovered by USS Lake Champlain. In January 1971, Shepard flew again as Commander of Apollo 14, during which he stayed 33 hours on the Moon, performing 9 hours 22 minutes of lunar spacewalk together with Edgar Mitchell. 50 years ago ... NASA test pilots and M2-F3 lifting body... Between 1966 & 1975, NASA conducted flight research with lifting bodies, craft in which the fuselage itself produces lift. The Northrop M2-F3 was tested during 27 flights between June 1970 and December 1972. The vehicle reached a maximum altitude of 21 kilometers and a maximum speed of Mach 1.6 over Edwards AFB. Note these test pilots wore a personal Rolex GMT-master pilot watch ; USAF pilot Captain Jerauld Gentry, NASA pilots John Manke and William H. Dana. Kneeling is USAF pilot Major Cecil Powell. William Dana was still wearing a Rolex GMT-master pilot watch when in August 2005 NASA retroactively awarded him his civilian “ Astronaut wings “ for X-15 flight 174 above 100 kilometers in 1966! 50 years ago, Apollo 14 personal Rolex watches flown to the Moon! January 31, 1971 Apollo 14 launch day suitup shows Edgar Mitchell putting on two extra personal Rolex watches underneath the fireproof underwear of his A7LB space suit... one on each wrist, besides the NASA-issued Omega Speedmaster  chronograph already strapped over his left forearm. Photos showing Mitchell taking a break before putting on the Apollo fishbowl helmet of the A7LB spacesuit, show he tugged each personal wristwatch nicely underneath the fireproof underwear. In July 1966, during Gemini X, astronaut Michael Collins was the first astronaut to wear a wristwatch underneath the spacesuit and we know Moonwalker Eugene Cernan wore his NASA-issued Speedmaster 105.003 underneath the A7LB spacesuit during almost 8 hours Apollo 17 lunar spacewalks in December 1972! 50 years ago... astronaut Walter Schirra went corporate... Walter “Wally” Schirra was one of the original “ Mercury 7 “ astronauts and became the sole astronaut to fly on a Mercury, a Gemini and an Apollo spaceflight mission. After his NASA career, he retired as a US Navy Captain in 1969. In 1970, Schirra formed Environmental Control Company and worked as a consultant at CBS News to cover the Apollo Moon program missions, together with CBS anchorman Walter Cronkite. In this 1967 photo, astronaut Walter Schirra checked out the modified hatch mechanism of the Apollo Command Module which got several safety improvements after the Apollo 1 pad fire. Note Walter Schirra clearly wore his personal Rolex GMT-master 1675 pilot watch with red/blue Pepsi bezel. 65 years since its introduction, the Rolex GMT-master remains the sole timepiece strictly chosen on a personal basis by both military & civil pilots, Russian cosmonauts and International & American astronauts !
