That was such a bittersweet scene. Malcolm finally got closure and actually had the one person who has haunted him for so long absolve him ("you were just a kid"). They shared a love for Eve and grief over her death. They both shared an understanding of what it's like to have their life changed by Martin. And then Malcolm ensured her freedom like he couldn't all those years ago.

That was one of the most meaningful interactions Malcolm has had with anyone this entire season. 😭

god sweets would just be like “soooo, you went into a dangerous situation without backup, knowing you could be injured or die. do you think this has anything to do with how you felt alone when you found the girl in the box and no one believed you, and you were the one to call the police on your dad, leading to his arrest. could this possibly have lead you to believe that you have to handle situations on your own so you know they are being dealt with in the way you think is best?” and then malcolms just sitting there like “backup would have taken 15 minutes and i didnt want this guy to get away” absolute shenanigans could occur

Prodigal Son Spoilers.

I know what's happening.

Martin was telling the truth when he said he didn't kill Sophie. He then said it's not his fault if she never got in touch with Eve again, implying she's alive and just didn't bother speaking to Eve again. I think Martin was telling the truth, but in a more 'he's found a loophole' way.

I think Martin did her let go, but she ran into Malcolm who had been chloroformed for days and just had to run away from a man who tried to kill him and he had to stab (Watkins). Malcolm was scared, maybe she was running and just happened to be running at him and he freaked out thinking she was there to kill him like Watkins and stabbed her.

Martin saw it and went over, calmed Malcolm. But Sophie was still alive but definitely going to die and suffering, so Martin gets Malcolm to finish the job, framing it under putting her out of her misery because of what he did, to convince Malcolm to do it. And that's what the flashbacks he's having of Martin making him stab someone is.

Technically Martin was telling the truth, he didn't kill her. And it's not his fault she didn't get in touch.

It's Malcolm's.

That would also explain why Martin kept warning Malcolm to leave it alone. Because it was Malcolm and his dad helped him get away with murder.

I just don't get why he when he remembers the girl in the box she's dry but in his nighterrors/hulactions she soaking wet but maybe that's to make her scarier

I still don’t know why...I’m guessing it might have something to do with the camping trip? like after malcolm found the GITB, martin and john (and malcolm?) killed her on the camping trip and dumped her body in a river or lake???

either way, I’m going to point everyone to this amazing twitter thread, the person literally went frame by frame through malcolm’s dreams/flashbacks and wrote down everything that seems odd. check out the thread for pictures but basically:

the scene we see a lot in the early flashbacks of the girl’s side doesn’t appear to be the same actress used in a much clearer picture of the GITB that appears for a moment in malcolm’s hospital dream.
