Ok I’ve gotta ask, apparently lines from vastedge that where either used taken from a script, or some people are saying data mine (which I don’t think is possible for a delete app game.) and I’ve gotta ask you. These legit?

I had to run the image in an OCR (Object Character Reader) and convert the text and translate it.

Based on what I read (and also running it through an Audio Reader) it matches a lot of Bridget's old voice samples from older games.

That being said, I haven't heard the full audio rips of VastEdge to say for certainty if that is the entire source or not.

Bridget uses the term "Uchi" which is a Feminine Pronoun often used by girls in Japanese, though he also simultaneously states cuteness is irrelevant to him because he is a "man" (this is a quote taken from the list of lines you shared).

「 か わ い い は 余 計 で す … ウ チ は 男 で す 」

He also states that it was his Village's customs that had him raised as a Girl.

「 ウ チ は 村 の 慣 例 に な ら っ て 、 女 の 子 と し て 育 て ら れ た ん で す ". 」

The rest of the quotes are more or less recycled from older GGXX fighting games from Bridget's battle quotes.

I don't think VastEdge would necessarily treat Bridget any differently than how he was in older games, though I have to remind people that Guilty Gear Strive is its own Interpretation of past events (meaning some aspects WERE Retconned because of that interpretation).

Also, VastEdge took its own interpretation of events from Guilty Gear 2 Overture... so in that respect, not all events or characters in VastEdge are relevant to events of GG2 or events in Xrd that came subsequently.

There's actually a lot of information in VastEdge that does not fit within the events of either GG2 or Xrd, but we'll leave that alone for now...

As far as I know this source is likely legitimately from VastEdge itself, though again, I'd have to hear the ripped audio samples to absolutely confirm it myself.

Twitter commentary aside, Bridget's gender identity at the time was not open for debate or questioned, let alone retconned... so VastEdge's interpretation of "him" matches how Bridget was interpreted during the Guilty Gear XX games.

Still, it's hard to say if VastEdge's events are canon involving Bridget, as Bridget was more or less a "guest opponent" in that 'game' and Bridget largely had little to do with the main story of VastEdge itself.

We're hoping to get any missing files from it, the audio, figure out what order the text is supposed to go in, the ending, and maybe Frankenstein together a video of an entire playthrough

We'll have to translate the script into English too, probably, but I think I remember someone saying they were working on that awhile ago..? I haven't heard anything else about a translation recently

There's not much of a way to figure out what audio goes with everything, what order they played in, or how to connect certain sequential scenes, but you could at least sift through it for more Baldias content

[sorry if I sent duplicate message] Something I am curious with vastedge is that takeshi tweeted he was writing for vastedge with daisuke supervising it. How much do you think he actually worked on for the writing of vastedge?

Because it could just be like with xx where the company acts like daisuke wrote it when in actuality he didn’t think he could write the story he wanted for xx so he left another writer use the characters and plot for xx.

Because he didn’t think he could write what he wanted for XX I can’t imagine pachinko game would be much better.

It would make more sense for Yamanaka to have written VastEdge with Ishiwatari's ideas as reference material, but you also have to understand that they have to make money to produce games in the first place.

Pachislot is very profitable, even if it doesn't have an in-depth story in terms of content.

Even if it's considered Gaiden or Side-story, regardless, Ishiwatari approved it. No matter if the quality took a dive or that the security of the game data itself was not considered much (i.e. it was leaked to the public before they could make a decent announcement).

I'd argue that VastEdge might not have been the best idea for a Guilty Gear title, but at the time they were trying to make something that people who don't play Guilty Gear would also be interested in.

Speaking of games that appeal to people who aren't interested in Guilty Gear: that's exactly what Guilty Gear Strive is.

Even in the case of Guilty Gear XX, even if Ishiwatari wasn't as deeply involved, he's part of the process regardless, so they still had to consult with him on some things... just not everything and not as responsibly as they should have to make the story better constructed.

But history is a good teacher, and they are learning that lesson.

I know it's something you were working on a while ago but I was curious where you had found the apk files for Vastedge XT. I've taken up a fascination with it, and while I doubt I'd be able to break new ground, having it would give me some weird collector's comfort.

The .APK and two .OBB files were originally ripped from the Android version of VXT by Lux/Xaeldritch. Some UI assets, animations, sounds, and a couple other tiny things have been ripped from them so far (by Tillman). I'm not sure what else there is since a lot of it was stored remotely on the game's servers and downloaded as you played. The servers are no longer online and that data, as far as anyone can tell, is long gone. I remember Tillman having to put up a real fight to get those files out of it though, so there may actually be more on there.

Good luck!! Please drop me a line if you take a swing at squeezing data out of these three containers and anything new pops out. There's a fiercely passionate group of about 5 people (including me) that would throw a mini celebration over it haha

Shotgun & Head Explanation

To people who don't comprehend the SHOTGUN & HEAD lyrics:

It's a reference to the Senato / Conclave who were conspiring to capture Sol during GG VastEdge events.

"Up to our knees in their conspiracy", Sol basically had a bounty put on his head during those events and he had to "Kickstart his brain" to think of a way out of it!

Most of the song is just talking about how they wouldn't have BEEN in that situation if Sol knew about it beforehand... so they decided to take the fight back to the Conclave and clear Sol's name and reputation.

"Why say it now?" is more of an 'I told you they were trouble' or 'I told you so' from Sin.

And the whole "Someday the world will be full of smiles" is just wishful thinking that once they get out of this conspiracy, things will get better.

Annon-Guy: Will there be a day where Tyr and Mizuha will become main member of the cast? Are they Canon characters? P.S. How would Tyr and Mizuha play if they become playable characters?

Regarding those two... they are part of the Gaiden of the series, so they are outside the main Canon of the main stories.

The series basically flows like this

GGTML > GG2O > GG2020

Any game with an X in it is considered an expansion of the Gaiden, but because certain aspects are very linear, those stories are what we call "Gaiden Canon", they aren't necessary for understanding the foundation of the story, but they are STILL part of the story.

Stuff in the brackets [] are nebulous Gaiden information or side stories that have their own sequence of events that take place outside the main stories, but any character involved in those stories is still considered a canonical individual, even if they don't appear in the main fighting games.

Stuff marked with a Star * is stuff that is the most linear in nature and therefore bears some of the most canonical weight.

In other words, stuff that is both * and [] are considered "Canon within the Gaiden" or just "Gaiden Canon".

It's worth noting that anything by Kaihou Norimitsu has its own internal Gaiden:

Lightning the Argent > Golden Disc Saga > GGXtra > Butterfly and Her Gale

All four of these works are connected to both the GG games and themselves.

So far, only Butterfly and Her Gale is the main story acknowledged as part of Xrd Sign's "canon" (as it references Erica Bartholomew).

The other three works are deeply connected to GG's past stories, so it's still quite unclear how they will be interpreted by GG2020.

Tyr is deeply connected with Kliff Undersn's past, along with Ky Kiske's past, as well as the history of the Japanese Colonies.  So what they do with him is anyone's guess... though if there was something they COULD do with him, I'd recommend he inherit Kliff's fighting style and use of the Dragonslayer sword.

He's just the right size for it, and he has some interesting powers to go with it.

As for Mizuha, her "voice" is her weapon... so in a way she behaves much like how I-No fights, with powerful soundwaves.  And since Tyr is her partner/guardian... it's possible for the two to work in tandem (not unlike Minerva and Celica in the BlazBlue games).

For now it's up in the air, but it would be great if more people gave feedback regarding Tyr and Mizuha's existence within the lore!

Annon-Guy: I know you like pretty much all of the Guilty Gear Characters, but was their a Guilty Gear Character (or any Video Game or Anime character) that you hated? Not in terms of gameplay, but in terms of personality and/or story. For example, I hate Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal and I hate Souichiro Unomaru from XBlaze. They do their jobs as villains perfectly well, but Sweet Tooth is scary and Unomaru is a jerk. (Not the likable jerk or the jerk you love to hate.)

They tried to create a character people "love to hate" with Crow Kuruwaba, but I think people still like him as a character anyway, because of his relateable humanity despite being cruel.  I always enjoyed Crow as a character, because he made casual brevity despite being a villain (his interactions with Robo-Ky are priceless by the way).

I think if there's something I "disliked", personally... hmmm....

Well, it's when characters aren't given their true capacity in the story.

I said this before but Guilty Gear VastEdge was the REAL black sheep of the series, even compared to the poor writing in GG Judgement and GG Dust Strikers.

It wasn't just that it was a pachislot game, it basically threw "cutscenes" at us without consideration to the "backstory" or "buildup" leading to those events.

Ill-concieved backhistory, ignoring canon events (GGVXT ignores certain events that happened in GG2), and just overall making a mess of the character data (mis-dating Sin's age, among other simple mistakes).

Above all else, what made me mad about VastEdge was the way Dizzy was treated in the story.

In GG2 Dr. Paradigm said he was "going to find a way to break her seal", but then GGVXT runs roughshod over that whole plotline and POOF Dizzy is free and awakened... no context, no explanation... it was terrible.

To say nothing of the fact VastEdge was leaked to a Chinese Server long before it was supposed to be released as a game.

Character-wise, there are very few instances I disliked a character on their own merit, not even controversial characters like Bridget bother me (in fact I like his story, and the interactions with his twin brother they are leading up to).

Like I said, it's when characters aren't treated like they're supposed to be treated in the story... that's when it raises the hackles on my neck and I get annoyed.

I'm not expecting villains to get a fair shake here, I mean, Bedman and Ariels deserve most of what they got... that's to be expected, but even then, they had plenty of spotlight time to establish who they were, which was entertaining to say the least.

I just want GG characters to be treated equally in terms of story... heck, even Jam Kuradoberi, who has a personality like sandpaper gets a few key moments in Revelator.  It's a treat to watch.

Xrd Sign wasn’t the first to start the trend of “hinting at hidden characters” (Johnny was hinted at in the very first GG game).  That being said, I’ll just start from the beginning.

Okay so i know Vastedge tells us about Sol and Sin kicking Baldias' ass and acquiring the Flashing Fang. But is there anything else going on during this time? Like are any other characters having shit going on at this time, or is it all just Sol and Sin? I'd understand if it was just the later since it is just a simple pachinko/slot machine.

With Zappa appearing in Revelator in his Vastedge costume (although recolored), could you share any details you've managed to scrounge up that may be relevant to missing cast members like Zappa, Dizzy etc that appeared in that Pachinko game (other than the Flashing Fang stuff and Baldias maybe dying)? Felt like a lot of the fandom may miss out on things since few GG fans got the chance to play that canon game.

To basically sum up what happened:

The Conclave put a bounty on Sol’s Head because he was meddling in their affairs.

Sol turned the tables and “stole back” the Senga from Harden Fortress.

During that time, Sol and Sin had to deal with several Bounty Hunters and Enemy Gears chasing them (Jam, Bridget, and a few nameless others).

He also ran in to Millia (who was looking for Zato’s body), and coincidently met May, Johnny, Slayer, and Zappa as well (these people also picked a random fight).

Ky helped clear Sol’s name after he defeated Baldias (Bardius in VastEdge sources), and during that time Izuna and Dr. Paradigm also helped out (a little).

Fighting “That Man” was a secret bonus battle in the game, but that isn’t a canonical part of the story.

The Epilogue reveals Dizzy is now free of the seal that was placed on her by the Thunderseal (despite Paradigm saying he would help Ky free her).

**Keep in mind a lot of information in VastEdge does not jive with GG2 or GGXrd info, so it’s Gaiden, not “full canon”**

Are there any videos of the Baldias fight from Vastedge? Is it anything special?

The clips do exist in-game, though you’ll have to ask someone like Mister-Badguy (Zysets) for them, since I myself don’t have a physical or digital copy.
