Per your post about superhero fiction and apocalyptic fiction interacting, I just read one of the books I got for Christmas, called Geiger. It's about a guy in the post nuclear war wasteland who is essentially a walking reactor, able to give off massive amounts of radiation at will.

And he's not going around helping people or performing acts of daring do. He's just staying at home. There are plenty of stories about the glowing man but he generally doesn't care. He's more of an urban legend than anything else.

He does end up doing some good, he does have a distinct look of glowing skeleton man, but it doesn't quite fit as a superhero. He's just a guy who can do weird stuff. So I'd say you're right on the money.

I've written a little bit about Geiger before- specifically in how interesting it is that it took this long for someone to hit upon the intersection he presents between the radioactive superhero origin story and the zeitgeist that generated that origin story, by having a superhero whose radioactive origin story is a world wrecking nuclear war. I'd contest the back half of your post, though, because at this point (volume 2 and on)- the staying at home bit his the back half of his origin story, the thing that comes before he finally succumbs to the call to action. Since the end of the first volume the comic is very visibly translating the superhero idiom into a post-apocalyptic context to the greatest extent possible given the constraints-namely by having him occupy the mad-max man-with-no-name walking-the-earth town-to-town vigilantism niche, which has been going for around five issues now. The one-shot anthology about the Vegas warlords depicted them as Batman villains by way of Edward "Ceaser" Sallow or Lord Humongous, and he even picked up a sidekick and engaged in a 60s-style crossover fight against another headlining character from the same shared universe, Junkyard Joe. Once you get to the point of this variant cover being published I don't think you can deny that there's a very specific lens through which we're being invited to view his adventures.
