#asks #unfortunately the coveted job of “professional kittycat” is out of my reach :(#in an alternate timeline i got popular by writing cute cuddly kink stories and got rich off of patreon #alas. the kitty must work #but my mom bought donuts and is letting me have 1 for each job i apply to as motivation #it's working #definitely needed the motivation because i graduated in june and have spent 2 full months just chilling #not exactly eager to work #but my life will be better when i can buy a fursuit and magic cards and art commissions and skirts and donuts and a chastity cage and #okay but that list was actually kinda hard to make because i kinda already have everything i want #i have a computer an internet connection and a fuckload of games and that's like 90% of what i want #i would like to live in my own little house but that's a long ways away #i mainly just want to keep my free time but i can't mooch off of my parents forever #i need to either take the reins on my life or find someone who wants to adopt a nerdy kitty cat #and as fun as it sounds in fantasy the second option is far too risky irl without a fallback plan #risky both in terms of 'what if they're mean?' and 'what if i don't actually like it?'#so taking the reins it is #if i get lucky then i can make a lot of money and retire early and then just chill forever

constantly reminded that majority of people will look at older animation/3d models and immediately deem it ugly & unwatchable while it doesnt even register to me. i'll see old 3d animations and just straight up accept thats how they look, it can even be charming to me idk it just ends up feeling stale in a way when everyone demands hyper realistic graphics & lifelike animations for everything. wheres the fun in everything being the same

#like beast wars and recently i took a look at reboot to see what that is and to me theyre just like. art styles #like genuinely i feel like it wouldnt have the same kind of feeling/charm if you remade those with current animation styles #oh man and remembering the sh2 remake like. the look of the old silent hill games is honestly part of their personality to me #you can pull off Great remakes like theyre doing in re now but to me visually thats just another Style and the og still has its own charm #also interesting to note with the rise of the ps1 indie game style more & more people seem to warm up to older graphics/animation styles #but still shy away from the experimental ''weird''/''uncanny''/''ugly'' look of late 90s/early 2000s animation. well i think theyre fun #venspeaks

It's kind of strange that the trans'2 soundtrack is as laid-back as it is. like there's peppier songs we'll get to shortly, and there's one in there that samples some kind of spooky creature sfx (which might be the bad end theme furi-nyan had mentioned), but like, most of it is similarly low-key.

I don't dislike the music, and it's very non-distracting when I'm trying to read or make write-ups, but it does feel like they left something on the table. like, if I'm someone who's into crossdressing, and I'm playing a game about that, a big selling point in my eyes is if it can make me feel girly, yknow? it's gotta peel the veil back and provide opportunities to submerge yourself in all the forbidden girl things you don't get to touch as a boy.

and it's not like the game doesn't do this elsewhere, there's clearly lots of thought put into the clothes you can play with, for instance. but like music is a very gendered thing! especially in 200X! and this is almost certainly a me thing but 2000s era pop rock was 100% an enticing forbidden gender thing for me as a kid, and is something I get euphoria from to this day. I gotta get my fix, girl!

#in general fashion culture and pop music are also pretty closely intertwined a lot of time time too #so it just generally feels off for a game that is partially about that to not lean into the music side of things more as well #incidentally this is yet another point where twewy unintentionally (semi-intentionally?) is a really good TV game #furi nyan complained about the game using a less shojo-y art style and I feel like this is a similar sort of complaint #unrelated but I'm like 90% that BGM 02 uses the sm64 xylophone soundfont like in dire dire docks

i think the near-extinction of people making fun, deep and/or unique interactive text-based browser games, projects and stories is catastrophic to the internet. i'm talking pre-itch.io era, nothing against it.

there are a lot of fun ones listed here and here but for the most part, they were made years ago and are now a dying breed. i get why. there's no money in it. factoring in the cost of web hosting and servers, it probably costs money. it's just sad that it's a dying art form.

anyway, here's some of my favorite browser-based interactive projects and games, if you're into that kind of thing. 90% of them are on the lists that i linked above.

Alter Ego - abandonware birth-to-death life simulator game

Seedship - text-based game about colonizing a new planet

Sandboxels or ThisIsSand - free-falling sand physics games

Little Alchemy 2 - combine various elements to make new ones

Infinite Craft - kind of the same as Little Alchemy

ZenGM - simulate sports

Tamajoji - browser-based tamagotchi

IFDB - interactive fiction database (text adventure games)

Written Realms - more text adventure games with a user interface

The Cafe & Diner - mystery game

The New Campaign Trail - US presidential campaign game

Money Simulator - simulate financial decisions

Genesis - text-based adventure/fantasy game

Level 13 - text-based science fiction adventure game
