For awhile, Diego and Five were paired together in training and Reginald even planned to pair them on missions until it became glaringly obvious that the two of them together would cause problems. Both Five and Diego are skeptical by nature and have a tendency to follow their own idea of what should be done. That being good or bad is besides the point. The issue for Reginald was that it lessened his control over them and if the two were allowed to continue creating this bond of sorts....it could mean chaos later on down the line.

          ————————   ❝   ɪ ᴛʜɪɴᴋ ᴛʜᴀᴛ's  part  of  the  problem,  isn’t  it?  Trying  to  fix  what  can’t  be  fixed  when  maybe  that’s  not  how  you  make  things  right.  Maybe  making  things  right  is  just....being  better  in  the  future.  Not  doing  the  wrong  anymore....I  don’t  know.  That’s  what  I  try  to  do.  Try  to  help  who  I  can.  You  know?  I  know  it  won’t...undo  things.  Won’t...won’t  bring  Ben  back...but....❞   and  that’s  always  been  a  huge  motivator  for  diego.  he’d  always  felt  he  hadn’t  done  enough  to  save  his  brother.  to  keep  him  from  dying.  and  maybe  if  he  saves  enough  people...it  might  make  up  for  that  a  little.  right?

Satisfactory ...? ❜ He trailed off, hummed, then gestured with a lazy hand towards the seat across from him. ❛ We’ll have to see about that, won’t we? ❜ He didn’t leave the spot beside the liquor cabinet where he parked his feet the moment he walked into the room. Pouring himself a generous tumbler of whiskey, taking his time as he did so, Five played the numbers in his mind again. The solid and unchanging math became white noise, a perpetual bluescreen to his thoughts.

He settled into the arm chair across from his double, crossing his legs at the knee and observing the younger man steadily. He wasn’t quite sure what brought him here, if he was being honest. His world was saved, so to speak. Doomsday pushed back a few hundred years into the future if not more. He didn’t have to jump through dimensions looking for answers from lookalikes anymore.

But old habits die hard. And maybe this time it was him providing the answers instead. ❛ No, ❜ he started. Paused. ❛ Well, yes, that too I guess. But that’s not why I’m here. ❜ Head tilted back against the cushion. A slow blink, eyes focusing on his counterpart again. ❛ Tell me first : how long do we have? ❜ It felt good to ask the question. Bizarrely enough he’d missed it. The uncompromising structure of the mission, knowing what he was supposed to do next. No matter how impossible the odds were.

❝ —well,  shit.❞  five  hadn’t  been  feeling  tense  or  agitated  (above  and  beyond  normal  levels),  and  he  wasn’t  sweating  profusely… yet.  that  didn’t  mean  that  his  immediate  future  wasn’t  about  to  become  increasingly  unpleasant.  standing  face  to  face  with  himself  in  any  timeline  was  bound  to  become  a  fucking  mess.  ❝i’m  hoping  you’ve  got  a  satisfactory  explanation  for  this.❞  

             five’s  keen  eyes  studied  familiar  features,  trying  not  to  let  himself  get  too  distracted  searching  for  discernable  differences.  the  only  two  assessments  of  the  situation  that  mattered were,  was  he  a  threat?  (read:  always),  and  what  in  his  vicinity  could  be  considered  a  viable  weapon? (read:  nearly  everything)
