'sprawling' is a set of four fused and slumped glass dishes inspired by naturally occurring similar visuals such as mycelium networks, cave systems, nervous systems, and aerial views of rivers

First firing in Martha the Kiln was a success! Lots of dots for future projects. Now that I finally have my own kiln up and running, I can't wait to make loads of pretty glass pieces.

So, I decided I needed to try out glass fusing.
At least I already own a kiln to do it, that's one financial win here. The only one, actually.

Did some VERY deep internet researching, bought some glass from a local shop, drew myself some toad/frog templates in Procreate. Began cutting my pieces down and filing them with diamond grit, and gave up 25 minutes later because it was SO FRICKIN SLOW GUYS.
Proceeded to cut THE DICKENS out of my fingers and hands. (but look at how cute these band aids are?!)

I DO NOT have the patience for cutting and smoothing glass by hand and machine. If you're an admirer of stained glass art, worship the ground those artists work on. It is DIFFICULT. I took a 1-night stained glass class a couple of years ago and did not remember how hard it was, for some reason.
So, I've decided I'm going to let my kiln form the shapes for me.

I smashed up the glass I bought, and I have decided I am going to make ceramic molds and melt the glass into the shapes that I want. No filing or cutting required. Just smashing the glass down, and then filling my molds, and firing them until they melt. After that, I'll take the individual pieces and do something that I think is called a tack firing. It's a firing that is just hot enough to make glass pieces stick together, but with minimal melting.
I think it'll look cool AF.

One of the first large pieces I’ve done. I think I did this back when I was 20 and drew the ideas since I was 16. Defiantly will improve on it some more.
I cut the head with my saw. That took an hour cutting and grinding. Besides the half hour cutting the belly and brow, I spent 6 hours with the all the frit designs. The flames are made with glass frit and vitregraph pulls(the forbidden taffy). The eye is part of a vitreagraph that I made into a marble.

You do glass?? :O
Do you have any pictures?? I want to see your glass!!
only of my stained glass, I juuust started glassblowing!

these two are my beginner projects, pre drawn patterns that I just chose the glass and did the rest for.

these two were next, a symmetrical design of my own and the fish were traced and pattern-ified from an old drawing of mine. they're both about the size of a sheet of paper but the fish is slightly larger as well as my first time doing a patina.
I don't have a picture for some reason and I already gave it away; after those two I made a box that somewhat mimicked the green geometric design.

lil snail night-light! this guy was my first time with wire detailing and currently lives in my bathroom.

my favorites and the most recent! that lampshade is patterned after the Milky Way galaxy and won an honorable mention in the Scholastics Art & Writing Competition this year; I'm gonna take it with me when I go to college. and my kaleidoscope!!! the outer disc is the Great Wave Off Kanagawa and the inner disc is just a geometric pattern.

I lied I've actually done one fused glass piece. this was from a powder wafers fused glass class at the local glass center, where I'm interning this semester and where I'm learning glassblowing!

Corinne Grondahl’s “Metromorphosis/Birth of a Station” (2008) at Mosholu Pkwy (4) station uses swirling, energetic compositions to evoke the force of rivers, which transform rough rocks to smooth stones over time. The artist drew inspiration from the Algonquin meaning of “Mosholu,” which translates to “smooth stones.” Fourteen fused glass panels are built into the windscreens on each platform. The reds and blues can be seen from inside and outside of the station, providing a beacon of beauty at this centrally located station in the Bronx.

Just finished making some new dichroic glass barrettes. I made a 6x6 sheet using scraps of different dichroic glass, fired it in my kiln, and then used a wet saw to cut it up into barrettes and pendants. What do you think?

Meet Martha, my new glass kiln! Named in honor of the queen of Baker Street. This thing both terrifies and excites me; I've been doing fused glass for over a year, but have never done any firing myself. I can't wait to get going and learn how Hudders works. There might be some fannish pieces in the future!
