Oh shit i missed Jesam's first birthday!!!!!!!!!!! If you haven't seen it before, this is what I call "Jesam 0.1," the reference sheet i put together before I got one commed from Nik @soft--dogs that you've probably seen much more often. Made from Zhivago's Ultimate Reference Sheet, I suddenly got into my head August 23rd 2022 that I needed to make a fursona finally, and I worked on him non-stop (no sleep) until he was finished the next day, August 24th, 2022 (what I'm calling his birthday!!)

Design notes:

So! It may not be obvious, but i was trying to make a completely normal colored fox (disregard the eyes), with 0 references. You can see how that turned out. 😝😝 I hand picked every single color off of a color wheel though, including tweaking the rgb values a bit by hand, (every single color, including the off white for the belly fur and tail, and the *different* off white for the teeth. Too much effort if you ask me 😝) to get to what *in my head* was normal fox coloring. I COMPLETELY forgot the white going up to his chin, and also, Foxes Aren't That Color. The funny thing is, I DID use a reference for the ears, and just didn't notice the rest of the color was so far off! Just makes him unique now, more Mine.

I did extra editing past what the ref sheet creator psd originally allowed - it works essentially like a picrew, choose your parts, put them together. However, I knew I wanted a bit more androgyny and a little bit of titty! What I did, was take BOTH the masculine and feminine torsos, and edit them a bit - I kept the masc arms, and the fem torso. If you look at the lineart on the original colorless file, you can see some line doubling where it wasn't perfect, but i think i did a pretty good job!

The ear flop I edited myself! For some reason! it HAD an ear flop option, that flopped the ear in the back view and headshot, but some combination of ears and hair meant that it didn't show in the frontal view, I had to go in and erase a bit from some layers.

The eyes got added later, when I was working with Nik on the final ref. He pointed out that I had COMPLETELY forgotten them, and helped me try a few variations until i settled on the lavendar. I actually still have those variants, with green, amber, and grey as alternatives.

The pronunciation note that i put everywhere is because almost NO-ONE I've met online first has pronounced it right first try 😅. I don't mind, but I like to save people feeling off about getting it wrong and being corrected if i can. (it's soft vowels, don't think Sam as in Samuel, my name's James, it's just an anagram. It's more "Jeh-sum". There's a link in my pinned post that'll pronounce it for you.)

the plants are duckweed and lavender, but i suggest searching the former with chinese flower symbolism in mind

This is a sketch that I may come back and finish but I remain undecided.
